Chapter 12
The Woman and the Dragon
1
And a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed in the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head.
Καὶ μέγα σημεῖον ὤφθη ἐν τῷ οὐρανῷ γυνὴ περιβεβλημένη τὸν ἥλιον καὶ ἡ σελήνη ὑποκάτω αὐτῆς τῶν ποδῶν καὶ στέφανος δώδεκα ἀστέρων ἐπὶ αὐτῆς τῆς κεφαλῆς Kai mega sēmeion ōphthē en tō ouranō gynē peribeblēmenē ton hēlion kai hē selēnē hypokatō autēs tōn podōn kai stephanos dōdeka asterōn epi autēs tēs kephalēs — NA/TR · 1

- vvv vvv She was pregnant and crying out in the pain and agony of giving birth.
καὶ ἐν γαστρὶ ἔχουσα καὶ κράζει ὠδίνουσα καὶ βασανιζομένη τεκεῖν kai en gastri echousa kai krazei ōdinousa kai basanizomenē tekein — NA/TR · 2

Then another sign appeared in heaven: - a huge red dragon [with] seven heads, ten horns, and seven royal crowns on his heads.
Καὶ ἄλλο σημεῖον ὤφθη ἐν τῷ οὐρανῷ καὶ ἰδοὺ μέγας πυρρός δράκων ἔχων ἑπτὰ κεφαλὰς καὶ δέκα κέρατα καὶ ἑπτὰ διαδήματα ἐπὶ αὐτοῦ τὰς κεφαλὰς Kai allo sēmeion ōphthē en tō ouranō kai idou megas pyrros drakōn echōn hepta kephalas kai deka kerata kai hepta diadēmata epi autou tas kephalas — NA/TR · 3

- His tail swept a third of the stars from [the] sky, hurling them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, ready to devour her child as soon as she gave birth.
καὶ αὐτοῦ ἡ οὐρὰ σύρει τὸ τρίτον τῶν ἀστέρων τοῦ οὐρανοῦ καὶ ἔβαλεν αὐτοὺς εἰς τὴν γῆν καὶ ὁ δράκων ἕστηκεν ἐνώπιον τῆς γυναικὸς τῆς μελλούσης τεκεῖν ἵνα καταφάγῃ αὐτῆς τὸ τέκνον ὅταν τέκῃ kai autou hē oura syrei to triton tōn asterōn tou ouranou kai ebalen autous eis tēn gēn kai ho drakōn hestēken enōpion tēs gynaikos tēs mellousēs tekein hina kataphagē autēs to teknon hotan tekē — NA/TR · 4

And she gave birth to a son, a male child, who will rule all the nations with an iron scepter. And her child was caught up to God and to His throne.
Καὶ ἔτεκεν υἱόν ἄρσεν ὃς μέλλει ποιμαίνειν πάντα τὰ ἔθνη ἐν σιδηρᾷ ῥάβδῳ καὶ αὐτῆς τὸ τέκνον ἡρπάσθη πρὸς τὸν Θεὸν καὶ πρὸς αὐτοῦ τὸν θρόνον Kai eteken huion arsen hos mellei poimainein panta ta ethnē en sidēra rhabdō kai autēs to teknon hērpasthē pros ton Theon kai pros autou ton thronon — NA/TR · 5

And the woman fled into the wilderness, where - God had prepared a place for her to be nourished for 1,260… days.
καὶ ἡ γυνὴ ἔφυγεν εἰς τὴν ἔρημον ὅπου ἀπὸ τοῦ Θεοῦ ἔχει ἡτοιμασμένον ἐκεῖ τόπον ἵνα αὐτὴν τρέφωσιν ἐκεῖ χιλίας διακοσίας ἑξήκοντα ἡμέρας kai hē gynē ephygen eis tēn erēmon hopou apo tou Theou echei hētoimasmenon ekei topon hina autēn trephōsin ekei chilias diakosias hexēkonta hēmeras — NA/TR · 6
The War in Heaven

Then a war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought [back].
Καὶ πόλεμος ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ οὐρανῷ ὁ Μιχαὴλ καὶ αὐτοῦ οἱ ἄγγελοι τοῦ πολεμῆσαι μετὰ τοῦ δράκοντος καὶ ὁ δράκων καὶ αὐτοῦ οἱ ἄγγελοι ἐπολέμησεν Kai polemos egeneto en tō ouranō ho Michaēl kai autou hoi angeloi tou polemēsai meta tou drakontos kai ho drakōn kai autou hoi angeloi epolemēsen — NA/TR · 7

[But] vvv [the dragon] was not strong enough, [and] no longer… [was] any place found in heaven for [him and his angels].
καὶ οὐκ ἴσχυσεν οὐδὲ ἔτι τόπος εὑρέθη ἐν τῷ οὐρανῷ αὐτῶν kai ouk ischysen oude eti topos heurethē en tō ouranō autōn — NA/TR · 8

And the great dragon was hurled down— that ancient serpent called [the] devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole [world]. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.
καὶ ὁ ὁ μέγας δράκων ἐβλήθη ὁ ὁ ἀρχαῖος ὄφις ὁ καλούμενος Διάβολος καὶ Ὁ Σατανᾶς ὁ πλανῶν τὴν ὅλην οἰκουμένην ἐβλήθη εἰς τὴν γῆν καὶ αὐτοῦ οἱ ἄγγελοι ἐβλήθησαν μετ’ αὐτοῦ kai ho ho megas drakōn eblēthē ho ho archaios ophis ho kaloumenos Diabolos kai HO Satanas ho planōn tēn holēn oikoumenēn eblēthē eis tēn gēn kai autou hoi angeloi eblēthēsan met’ autou — NA/TR · 9

And I heard a loud voice in heaven saying: “Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of His Christ. For the accuser of our brothers has been thrown down— he who accuses them day and night before our God.
Καὶ ἤκουσα μεγάλην φωνὴν ἐν τῷ οὐρανῷ λέγουσαν Ἄρτι ἐγένετο ἡ σωτηρία καὶ ἡ δύναμις καὶ ἡ βασιλεία ἡμῶν τοῦ Θεοῦ καὶ ἡ ἐξουσία αὐτοῦ τοῦ Χριστοῦ ὅτι ὁ κατήγωρ ἡμῶν τῶν ἀδελφῶν ἐβλήθη ὁ κατηγορῶν αὐτοὺς ἡμέρας καὶ νυκτός ἐνώπιον ἡμῶν τοῦ Θεοῦ Kai ēkousa megalēn phōnēn en tō ouranō legousan Arti egeneto hē sōtēria kai hē dynamis kai hē basileia hēmōn tou Theou kai hē exousia autou tou Christou hoti ho katēgōr hēmōn tōn adelphōn eblēthē ho katēgorōn autous hēmeras kai nyktos enōpion hēmōn tou Theou — NA/TR · 10

- They have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony. And vvv they did not love their lives so as to shy away from death.
καὶ αὐτοὶ ἐνίκησαν αὐτὸν διὰ τὸ αἷμα τοῦ Ἀρνίου καὶ διὰ τὸν λόγον τῆς αὐτῶν μαρτυρίας καὶ οὐκ ἠγάπησαν αὐτῶν τὴν ψυχὴν ἄχρι θανάτου kai autoi enikēsan auton dia to haima tou Arniou kai dia ton logon tēs autōn martyrias kai ouk ēgapēsan autōn tēn psychēn achri thanatou — NA/TR · 11

Therefore… rejoice, O heavens, and [you who] dwell in them! [But] woe to the earth and the sea; with great fury the devil has come down to you, knowing he has only a short time.
διὰ τοῦτο εὐφραίνεσθε οἱ οὐρανοὶ καὶ οἱ σκηνοῦντες ἐν αὐτοῖς οὐαὶ τὴν γῆν καὶ τὴν θάλασσαν ὅτι ἔχων μέγαν θυμὸν ὁ διάβολος κατέβη πρὸς ὑμᾶς εἰδὼς ὅτι ἔχει ὀλίγον καιρὸν dia touto euphrainesthe hoi ouranoi kai hoi skēnountes en autois ouai tēn gēn kai tēn thalassan hoti echōn megan thymon ho diabolos katebē pros hymas eidōs hoti echei oligon kairon — NA/TR · 12
The Woman Persecuted

And when the dragon saw that he had been thrown to the earth, he pursued the woman who had given birth to the male [child].
Καὶ ὅτε ὁ δράκων εἶδεν ὅτι ἐβλήθη εἰς τὴν γῆν ἐδίωξεν τὴν γυναῖκα ἥτις ἔτεκεν τὸν ἄρσενα Kai hote ho drakōn eiden hoti eblēthē eis tēn gēn ediōxen tēn gynaika hētis eteken ton arsena — NA/TR · 13

[But] the woman was given two wings of a great eagle to fly from [the] presence of the serpent to her place in the wilderness, where she was nourished for a time, and times, and half a time.
καὶ τῇ γυναικὶ ἐδόθησαν αἱ δύο πτέρυγες τοῦ τοῦ μεγάλου ἀετοῦ ἵνα πέτηται ἀπὸ προσώπου τοῦ ὄφεως εἰς αὐτῆς τὸν τόπον εἰς τὴν ἔρημον ὅπου τρέφεται ἐκεῖ καιρὸν καὶ καιροὺς καὶ ἥμισυ καιροῦ kai tē gynaiki edothēsan hai dyo pteryges tou tou megalou aetou hina petētai apo prosōpou tou opheōs eis autēs ton topon eis tēn erēmon hopou trephetai ekei kairon kai kairous kai hēmisy kairou — NA/TR · 14

Then from his mouth the serpent spewed water like a river to overtake the woman [and] sweep her away in the torrent.
Καὶ ἐκ αὐτοῦ τοῦ στόματος ὁ ὄφις ἔβαλεν ὕδωρ ὡς ποταμόν ὀπίσω τῆς γυναικὸς ἵνα ποιήσῃ αὐτὴν ποταμοφόρητον Kai ek autou tou stomatos ho ophis ebalen hydōr hōs potamon opisō tēs gynaikos hina poiēsē autēn potamophorēton — NA/TR · 15

[But] the earth helped the woman and - opened its mouth to swallow up the river that the dragon had poured from his mouth.
καὶ ἡ γῆ ἐβοήθησεν τῇ γυναικί καὶ ἡ γῆ ἤνοιξεν αὐτῆς τὸ στόμα καὶ κατέπιεν τὸν ποταμὸν ὃν ὁ δράκων ἔβαλεν ἐκ αὐτοῦ τοῦ στόματος kai hē gē eboēthēsen tē gynaiki kai hē gē ēnoixen autēs to stoma kai katepien ton potamon hon ho drakōn ebalen ek autou tou stomatos — NA/TR · 16

And the dragon was enraged at the woman and went to make war with the rest of her children, who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus. And [the dragon] stood on the shore of the sea.
καὶ ὁ δράκων ὠργίσθη ἐπὶ τῇ γυναικί καὶ ἀπῆλθεν ποιῆσαι πόλεμον μετὰ τῶν λοιπῶν τοῦ αὐτῆς σπέρματος τῶν τηρούντων τὰς ἐντολὰς τοῦ Θεοῦ καὶ ἐχόντων τὴν μαρτυρίαν Ἰησοῦ Καὶ ἐστάθη ἐπὶ τὴν ἄμμον τῆς θαλάσσης kai ho drakōn ōrgisthē epi tē gynaiki kai apēlthen poiēsai polemon meta tōn loipōn tou autēs spermatos tōn tērountōn tas entolas tou Theou kai echontōn tēn martyrian Iēsou Kai estathē epi tēn ammon tēs thalassēs — NA/TR · 17
