Evil in the Last Days

But understand this -: In [the] last days terrible times will come.

For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to [their] parents, ungrateful, unholy,
γὰρ οἱ ἄνθρωποι ἔσονται φίλαυτοι φιλάργυροι ἀλαζόνες ὑπερήφανοι βλάσφημοι ἀπειθεῖς γονεῦσιν ἀχάριστοι ἀνόσιοι gar hoi anthrōpoi esontai philautoi philargyroi alazones hyperēphanoi blasphēmoi apeitheis goneusin acharistoi anosioi — NA/TR · 2

unloving, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, without love of good,
ἄστοργοι ἄσπονδοι διάβολοι ἀκρατεῖς ἀνήμεροι ἀφιλάγαθοι astorgoi aspondoi diaboloi akrateis anēmeroi aphilagathoi — NA/TR · 3

traitorous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,
προδόται προπετεῖς τετυφωμένοι φιλήδονοι μᾶλλον ἢ φιλόθεοι prodotai propeteis tetyphōmenoi philēdonoi mallon ē philotheoi — NA/TR · 4

having a form of godliness but denying its power. Turn away from [such] as these!
ἔχοντες μόρφωσιν εὐσεβείας δὲ ἠρνημένοι αὐτῆς τὴν δύναμιν καὶ ἀποτρέπου τούτους echontes morphōsin eusebeias de ērnēmenoi autēs tēn dynamin kai apotrepou toutous — NA/TR · 5

- They are vvv the kind who worm their way into households and captivate vulnerable women [who are] weighed down with sins [and] led astray by various passions,
γάρ εἰσιν οἱ Ἐκ τούτων ἐνδύνοντες εἰς τὰς οἰκίας καὶ αἰχμαλωτίζοντες γυναικάρια σεσωρευμένα ἁμαρτίαις ἀγόμενα ποικίλαις ἐπιθυμίαις gar eisin hoi Ek toutōn endynontes eis tas oikias kai aichmalōtizontes gynaikaria sesōreumena hamartiais agomena poikilais epithymiais — NA/TR · 6

[who are] always learning [but] never able to come to a knowledge of [the] truth.
πάντοτε μανθάνοντα καὶ μηδέποτε δυνάμενα ἐλθεῖν εἰς ἐπίγνωσιν ἀληθείας pantote manthanonta kai mēdepote dynamena elthein eis epignōsin alētheias — NA/TR · 7

Just as… Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these men oppose the truth. They are depraved in mind [and] disqualified from the faith.
ὃν τρόπον δὲ Ἰάννης καὶ Ἰαμβρῆς ἀντέστησαν Μωϋσεῖ οὕτως καὶ οὗτοι ἄνθρωποι ἀνθίστανται τῇ ἀληθείᾳ κατεφθαρμένοι τὸν νοῦν ἀδόκιμοι περὶ τὴν πίστιν hon tropon de Iannēs kai Iambrēs antestēsan Mōusei houtōs kai houtoi anthrōpoi anthistantai tē alētheia katephtharmenoi ton noun adokimoi peri tēn pistin — NA/TR · 8

But vvv they will not advance much further. For just like [Jannes and Jambres] -, their folly will be plain to everyone.
ἀλλ’ οὐ προκόψουσιν πλεῖον ἐπὶ γὰρ καὶ ὡς ἡ ἐκείνων ἐγένετο αὐτῶν ἡ ἄνοια ἔσται ἔκδηλος πᾶσιν all’ ou prokopsousin pleion epi gar kai hōs hē ekeinōn egeneto autōn hē anoia estai ekdēlos pasin — NA/TR · 9

You, however, have observed my teaching, [my] conduct, [my] purpose, [my] faith, [my] patience, [my] love, [my] perseverance,
Σὺ δὲ παρηκολούθησάς μου τῇ διδασκαλίᾳ τῇ ἀγωγῇ τῇ προθέσει τῇ πίστει τῇ μακροθυμίᾳ τῇ ἀγάπῃ τῇ ὑπομονῇ Sy de parēkolouthēsas mou tē didaskalia tē agōgē tē prothesei tē pistei tē makrothymia tē agapē tē hypomonē — NA/TR · 10

[my] persecutions, [and the] sufferings that came upon me in Antioch, Iconium, [and] Lystra. What persecutions I endured! Yet the Lord rescued me from all [of them].
τοῖς διωγμοῖς τοῖς παθήμασιν οἷά ἐγένετο μοι ἐν Ἀντιοχείᾳ ἐν Ἰκονίῳ ἐν Λύστροις οἵους διωγμοὺς ὑπήνεγκα καὶ ὁ Κύριος ἐρρύσατο με ἐκ πάντων tois diōgmois tois pathēmasin hoia egeneto moi en Antiocheia en Ikoniō en Lystrois hoious diōgmous hypēnenka kai ho Kyrios errysato me ek pantōn — NA/TR · 11

- Indeed, all who desire to live godly [lives] in Christ Jesus will be persecuted,
καὶ δὲ πάντες οἱ θέλοντες ζῆν εὐσεβῶς ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ διωχθήσονται kai de pantes hoi thelontes zēn eusebōs en Christō Iēsou diōchthēsontai — NA/TR · 12

while evil men and imposters go [from bad] to worse, deceiving and being deceived.
δὲ πονηροὶ ἄνθρωποι καὶ γόητες προκόψουσιν ἐπὶ τὸ χεῖρον πλανῶντες καὶ πλανώμενοι de ponēroi anthrōpoi kai goētes prokopsousin epi to cheiron planōntes kai planōmenoi — NA/TR · 13

But [as for] you, continue in the things you have learned and firmly believed, since you know from whom you have learned [them].
δὲ Σὺ μένε ἐν οἷς ἔμαθες καὶ ἐπιστώθης εἰδὼς παρὰ τίνων ἔμαθες de Sy mene en hois emathes kai epistōthēs eidōs para tinōn emathes — NA/TR · 14

- From infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able vvv to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.
καὶ ὅτι ἀπὸ βρέφους οἶδας τὰ ἱερὰ γράμματα τὰ δυνάμενά σε σοφίσαι εἰς σωτηρίαν διὰ πίστεως τῆς ἐν Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ kai hoti apo brephous oidas ta hiera grammata ta dynamena se sophisai eis sōtērian dia pisteōs tēs en Christō Iēsou — NA/TR · 15

All Scripture [is] God-breathed and is useful for instruction, for conviction, for correction, [and] for training in righteousness,

so that the man of God may be complete, fully equipped for every good work.
