Chapter 6
Paul’s Hardships and God’s Grace

[As] [God’s] fellow workers, then, we urge you not to receive God’s grace in vain.
δὲ Συνεργοῦντες καὶ παρακαλοῦμεν ὑμᾶς μὴ δέξασθαι τοῦ Θεοῦ τὴν χάριν εἰς κενὸν de Synergountes kai parakaloumen hymas mē dexasthai tou Theou tēn charin eis kenon — NA/TR · 1

For He says: “In the time of favor I heard you, and in [the] day of salvation I helped you.” Behold, now [is the] time of favor; now [is the] day of salvation!
γάρ λέγει Καιρῷ δεκτῷ ἐπήκουσά σου καὶ ἐν ἡμέρᾳ σωτηρίας ἐβοήθησά σοι Ἰδοὺ νῦν καιρὸς εὐπρόσδεκτος ἰδοὺ νῦν ἡμέρα σωτηρίας gar legei Kairō dektō epēkousa sou kai en hēmera sōtērias eboēthēsa soi Idou nyn kairos euprosdektos idou nyn hēmera sōtērias — NA/TR · 2

We put no obstacle in [anyone’s] {way}, so that no one can discredit [our] ministry.
διδόντες Μηδεμίαν προσκοπήν ἐν μηδενὶ ἵνα μὴ μωμηθῇ ἡ διακονία didontes Mēdemian proskopēn en mēdeni hina mē mōmēthē hē diakonia — NA/TR · 3

Rather, as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: in great endurance; in troubles, hardships, [and] calamities;
ἀλλ’ ὡς διάκονοι Θεοῦ συνιστάνοντες ἑαυτοὺς ἐν παντὶ ἐν πολλῇ ὑπομονῇ ἐν θλίψεσιν ἐν ἀνάγκαις ἐν στενοχωρίαις all’ hōs diakonoi Theou synistanontes heautous en panti en pollē hypomonē en thlipsesin en anankais en stenochōriais — NA/TR · 4

in beatings, imprisonments, [and] riots; in labor, sleepless nights, [and] hunger;

in purity, knowledge, patience, [and] kindness; in [the] Holy Spirit [and] in sincere love;
ἐν ἁγνότητι ἐν γνώσει ἐν μακροθυμίᾳ ἐν χρηστότητι ἐν Ἁγίῳ Πνεύματι ἐν ἀνυποκρίτῳ ἀγάπῃ en hagnotēti en gnōsei en makrothymia en chrēstotēti en Hagiō Pneumati en anypokritō agapē — NA/TR · 6

in truthful speech [and] in [the] power of God; with the weapons of righteousness in the right hand and in [the] left;

through glory and dishonor, slander and praise; viewed as imposters, yet genuine;
διὰ δόξης καὶ ἀτιμίας διὰ δυσφημίας καὶ εὐφημίας ὡς πλάνοι καὶ ἀληθεῖς dia doxēs kai atimias dia dysphēmias kai euphēmias hōs planoi kai alētheis — NA/TR · 8

vvv unknown, yet well-known; dying, and yet we live on; punished, yet vvv not killed;
ὡς ἀγνοούμενοι καὶ ἐπιγινωσκόμενοι ὡς ἀποθνήσκοντες καὶ ἰδοὺ ζῶμεν ὡς παιδευόμενοι καὶ μὴ θανατούμενοι hōs agnooumenoi kai epiginōskomenoi hōs apothnēskontes kai idou zōmen hōs paideuomenoi kai mē thanatoumenoi — NA/TR · 9

- sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; poor, yet {making} many rich; having nothing, and yet possessing everything.
ὡς λυπούμενοι δὲ ἀεὶ χαίροντες ὡς πτωχοὶ δὲ πολλοὺς πλουτίζοντες ὡς ἔχοντες μηδὲν καὶ κατέχοντες πάντα hōs lypoumenoi de aei chairontes hōs ptōchoi de pollous ploutizontes hōs echontes mēden kai katechontes panta — NA/TR · 10

[It is] not vvv our affection, [but] yours, that is restrained.
δὲ οὐ στενοχωρεῖσθε ἐν ἡμῖν σπλάγχνοις ἐν τοῖς ὑμῶν στενοχωρεῖσθε de ou stenochōreisthe en hēmin splanchnois en tois hymōn stenochōreisthe — NA/TR · 12

[As] a fair exchange— I speak as to [my] children— open wide your [hearts] also.
δὲ τὴν αὐτὴν ἀντιμισθίαν λέγω ὡς τέκνοις πλατύνθητε ὑμεῖς καὶ de tēn autēn antimisthian legō hōs teknois platynthēte hymeis kai — NA/TR · 13
Do Not Be Unequally Yoked

{Do} not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership [can] righteousness [have with] wickedness? Or what fellowship [does] light [have] with darkness?
Μὴ γίνεσθε ἑτεροζυγοῦντες ἀπίστοις γὰρ τίς μετοχὴ δικαιοσύνῃ καὶ ἀνομίᾳ ἢ τίς κοινωνία φωτὶ πρὸς σκότος Mē ginesthe heterozygountes apistois gar tis metochē dikaiosynē kai anomia ē tis koinōnia phōti pros skotos — NA/TR · 14

- What harmony [is there between] Christ and Belial? Or what {does} a believer have in common with an unbeliever?
δὲ τίς συμφώνησις Χριστοῦ πρὸς Βελιάρ ἢ τίς πιστῷ μερὶς μετὰ ἀπίστου de tis symphōnēsis Christou pros Belial ē tis pistō meris meta apistou — NA/TR · 15

- What agreement [can exist] between the temple of God [and] idols? For we are [the] temple of [the] living God. As God has said: “I will dwell with them and walk among [them], and I will be their God, and they will be My people.”
δὲ τίς συνκατάθεσις μετὰ ναῷ Θεοῦ εἰδώλων γὰρ ἡμεῖς ἐσμεν ναὸς ζῶντος Θεοῦ καθὼς ὁ Θεὸς εἶπεν ὅτι Ἐνοικήσω ἐν αὐτοῖς καὶ ἐμπεριπατήσω καὶ ἔσομαι αὐτῶν Θεός καὶ αὐτοὶ ἔσονταί μου λαός de tis synkatathesis meta naō Theou eidōlōn gar hēmeis esmen naos zōntos Theou kathōs ho Theos eipen hoti Enoikēsō en autois kai emperipatēsō kai esomai autōn Theos kai autoi esontai mou laos — NA/TR · 16

“Therefore come out from… among them and be separate, says [the] Lord. Touch no unclean {thing}, and I will receive you.”
Διὸ ἐξέλθατε ἐκ μέσου αὐτῶν καὶ ἀφορίσθητε λέγει Κύριος καὶ ἅπτεσθε μὴ ἀκαθάρτου κἀγὼ εἰσδέξομαι ὑμᾶς Dio exelthate ek mesou autōn kai aphoristhēte legei Kyrios kai haptesthe mē akathartou kagō eisdexomai hymas — NA/TR · 17

And: “I will be a Father to you, and you will be My sons and daughters, says [the] Lord Almighty.”
