Chapter 12

Living Sacrifices

1

Therefore I urge you, brothers, on account of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies [as] living sacrifices, holy [and] pleasing to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.

2

  • vvv Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of [your] mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what [is] the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.

καὶ μὴ συσχηματίζεσθε τούτῳ τῷ αἰῶνι ἀλλὰ μεταμορφοῦσθε τῇ ἀνακαινώσει τοῦ νοός εἰς ὑμᾶς τὸ δοκιμάζειν τί τὸ τὸ ἀγαθὸν καὶ εὐάρεστον καὶ τέλειον θέλημα τοῦ Θεοῦ kai mē syschēmatizesthe toutō tō aiōni alla metamorphousthe tē anakainōsei tou noos eis hymas to dokimazein ti to to agathon kai euareston kai teleion thelēma tou Theou — NA/TR · 2

3

For by the grace given me I say to every one - of you: vvv Do not think of yourself more highly… than you ought -, but think of yourself with sober judgment, according to [the] measure of faith God has given [you].

γὰρ διὰ τῆς χάριτος τῆς δοθείσης μοι Λέγω παντὶ τῷ ὄντι ἐν ὑμῖν μὴ ὑπερφρονεῖν παρ’ ὃ δεῖ φρονεῖν ἀλλὰ φρονεῖν εἰς τὸ σωφρονεῖν ὡς μέτρον πίστεως ὁ Θεὸς ἐμέρισεν ἑκάστῳ gar dia tēs charitos tēs dotheisēs moi Legō panti tō onti en hymin mē hyperphronein par’ ho dei phronein alla phronein eis to sōphronein hōs metron pisteōs ho Theos emerisen hekastō — NA/TR · 3

4

  • Just as each of us has one body with many members, and not all members have the same function,

5

so in Christ we who are many [are] one body -, and each member [belongs to] one another.

οὕτως ἐν Χριστῷ ἐσμεν οἱ πολλοὶ ἓν σῶμά τὸ δὲ καθ’ μέλη εἷς ἀλλήλων houtōs en Christō esmen hoi polloi hen sōma to de kath’ melē heis allēlōn — NA/TR · 5

6

  • We have different gifts according to the grace given us. If [one’s gift is] prophecy, [let him use] it in proportion to [his] faith;

8

[if it is] encouraging, - let him encourage; [if it is] giving, let him give generously; [if it is] leading, [ let him lead] with diligence; [if it is] showing mercy, [ let him do it] cheerfully.
