Judging Others

[“][Do] not judge, or… you will be judged.
Μὴ κρίνετε ἵνα μὴ κριθῆτε Mē krinete hina mē krithēte — NA/TR · 1

For with the same judgment you pronounce, you will be judged, and with the measure you [use], it will be measured to you.
γὰρ ἐν ᾧ κρίματι κρίνετε κριθήσεσθε καὶ ἐν ᾧ μέτρῳ μετρεῖτε μετρηθήσεται ὑμῖν gar en hō krimati krinete krithēsesthe kai en hō metrō metreite metrēthēsetai hymin — NA/TR · 2

- Why do you look at the speck in - your brother’s eye but fail to notice [the] beam in your [own] eye?
δὲ Τί βλέπεις τὸ κάρφος τὸ ἐν τῷ τοῦ σου ἀδελφοῦ ὀφθαλμῷ τὴν δὲ οὐ κατανοεῖς δοκὸν ἐν τῷ σῷ ὀφθαλμῷ de Ti blepeis to karphos to en tō tou sou adelphou ophthalmō tēn de ou katanoeis dokon en tō sō ophthalmō — NA/TR · 3

- How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ while [there is still] a beam in your [own] eye?
ἢ πῶς ἐρεῖς τῷ σου ἀδελφῷ Ἄφες ἐκβάλω τὸ κάρφος ἐκ τοῦ σου ὀφθαλμοῦ καὶ ἰδοὺ ἡ δοκὸς ἐν σοῦ τῷ ὀφθαλμῷ ē pōs ereis tō sou adelphō Aphes ekbalō to karphos ek tou sou ophthalmou kai idou hē dokos en sou tō ophthalmō — NA/TR · 4

You hypocrite! First take the beam out of your [own] eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from - your brother’s eye.
ὑποκριτά πρῶτον ἔκβαλε τὴν δοκόν ἐκ τοῦ σοῦ ὀφθαλμοῦ καὶ τότε διαβλέψεις ἐκβαλεῖν τὸ κάρφος ἐκ τοῦ τοῦ σου ἀδελφοῦ ὀφθαλμοῦ hypokrita prōton ekbale tēn dokon ek tou sou ophthalmou kai tote diablepseis ekbalein to karphos ek tou tou sou adelphou ophthalmou — NA/TR · 5

{Do} not give dogs what is holy; {do} not throw your pearls before swine. If you do…, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn [and] tear you to pieces…
Μὴ δῶτε τοῖς κυσίν τὸ ἅγιον μηδὲ βάλητε τοὺς ὑμῶν μαργαρίτας ἔμπροσθεν τῶν χοίρων ποτε μή‿ καταπατήσουσιν αὐτοὺς ἐν τοῖς αὐτῶν ποσὶν καὶ στραφέντες ῥήξωσιν ὑμᾶς Mē dōte tois kysin to hagion mēde balēte tous hymōn margaritas emprosthen tōn choirōn pote mē katapatēsousin autous en tois autōn posin kai straphentes rhēxōsin hymas — NA/TR · 6
Ask, Seek, Knock

Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and [the door] will be opened to you.
Αἰτεῖτε καὶ δοθήσεται ὑμῖν ζητεῖτε καὶ εὑρήσετε κρούετε καὶ ἀνοιγήσεται ὑμῖν Aiteite kai dothēsetai hymin zēteite kai heurēsete krouete kai anoigēsetai hymin — NA/TR · 7

For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, [the door] will be opened.
γὰρ πᾶς ὁ αἰτῶν λαμβάνει καὶ ὁ ζητῶν εὑρίσκει καὶ τῷ κρούοντι ἀνοιγήσεται gar pas ho aitōn lambanei kai ho zētōn heuriskei kai tō krouonti anoigēsetai — NA/TR · 8

- Which… of you, if his… son asks for bread, will give… him a stone?
Ἢ τίς ἄνθρωπος ἐστιν ἐξ ὑμῶν ὃν ὁ αὐτοῦ υἱὸς αἰτήσει ἄρτον ἐπιδώσει μὴ αὐτῷ λίθον Ē tis anthrōpos estin ex hymōn hon ho autou huios aitēsei arton epidōsei mē autō lithon — NA/TR · 9

Or [if] he asks for a fish, will give… him a snake?
ἢ καὶ αἰτήσει ἰχθὺν ἐπιδώσει μὴ αὐτῷ ὄφιν ē kai aitēsei ichthyn epidōsei mē autō ophin — NA/TR · 10

So if you who are evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more {will} your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!
οὖν εἰ ὑμεῖς ὄντες πονηροὶ οἴδατε διδόναι ἀγαθὰ δόματα τοῖς ὑμῶν τέκνοις πόσῳ μᾶλλον ὁ ὑμῶν Πατὴρ ὁ ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς δώσει ἀγαθὰ τοῖς αἰτοῦσιν αὐτόν oun ei hymeis ontes ponēroi oidate didonai agatha domata tois hymōn teknois posō mallon ho hymōn Patēr ho en tois ouranois dōsei agatha tois aitousin auton — NA/TR · 11

In everything…, then, do to others as… you would have them do… to you. For this is [the essence of] the Law and the Prophets.

The Narrow Gate

Enter through the narrow gate. For wide [is] the gate and broad [is] the way that leads to destruction, and many - enter through it.
Εἰσέλθατε διὰ τῆς στενῆς πύλης ὅτι πλατεῖα ἡ πύλη καὶ εὐρύχωρος ἡ ὁδὸς ἡ ἀπάγουσα εἰς τὴν ἀπώλειαν καὶ πολλοί εἰσιν οἱ εἰσερχόμενοι δι’ αὐτῆς Eiselthate dia tēs stenēs pylēs hoti plateia hē pylē kai eurychōros hē hodos hē apagousa eis tēn apōleian kai polloi eisin hoi eiserchomenoi di’ autēs — NA/TR · 13

But small [is] the gate and narrow the way that leads to life, and only a few - find it.

A Tree and Its Fruit

Beware of false prophets. [They] come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.
Προσέχετε ἀπὸ τῶν ψευδοπροφητῶν οἵτινες ἔρχονται πρὸς ὑμᾶς ἐν προβάτων ἐνδύμασιν δέ ἔσωθεν εἰσιν ἅρπαγες λύκοι Prosechete apo tōn pseudoprophētōn hoitines erchontai pros hymas en probatōn endymasin de esōthen eisin harpages lykoi — NA/TR · 15

By their fruit you will recognize them. Are grapes gathered… from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?

Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.
οὕτως πᾶν ἀγαθὸν δένδρον ποιεῖ καλοὺς καρποὺς τὸ δὲ σαπρὸν δένδρον ποιεῖ πονηροὺς καρποὺς houtōs pan agathon dendron poiei kalous karpous to de sapron dendron poiei ponērous karpous — NA/TR · 17

[A] good tree cannot… bear bad fruit, [and a] bad tree cannot bear good fruit.
ἀγαθὸν δένδρον δύναται οὐ ποιεῖν πονηροὺς καρποὺς σαπρὸν δένδρον οὐδὲ ποιεῖν καλοὺς καρποὺς agathon dendron dynatai ou poiein ponērous karpous sapron dendron oude poiein kalous karpous — NA/TR · 18

Every tree vvv that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into [the] fire.
πᾶν δένδρον μὴ ποιοῦν καλὸν καρπὸν ἐκκόπτεται καὶ βάλλεται εἰς πῦρ pan dendron mē poioun kalon karpon ekkoptetai kai balletai eis pyr — NA/TR · 19

So then, by their fruit you will recognize them.

Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord, will enter… the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of My Father in heaven.
Οὐ πᾶς ὁ λέγων μοι Κύριε Κύριε εἰσελεύσεται εἰς τὴν βασιλείαν τῶν οὐρανῶν ἀλλ’ ὁ ποιῶν τὸ θέλημα τοῦ μου Πατρός τοῦ ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς Ou pas ho legōn moi Kyrie Kyrie eiseleusetai eis tēn basileian tōn ouranōn all’ ho poiōn to thelēma tou mou Patros tou en tois ouranois — NA/TR · 21

Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy… in Your name, and [in] Your name drive out demons and - perform many miracles?
πολλοὶ ἐροῦσίν μοι ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ Κύριε Κύριε ἐπροφητεύσαμεν οὐ τῷ σῷ ὀνόματι καὶ τῷ σῷ ὀνόματι ἐξεβάλομεν δαιμόνια καὶ τῷ σῷ ὀνόματι ἐποιήσαμεν πολλὰς δυνάμεις polloi erousin moi en ekeinē tē hēmera Kyrie Kyrie eprophēteusamen ou tō sō onomati kai tō sō onomati exebalomen daimonia kai tō sō onomati epoiēsamen pollas dynameis — NA/TR · 22

- Then I will tell them plainly…, ‘I never knew… you; depart from Me, [you] workers of lawlessness!
καὶ τότε ὁμολογήσω αὐτοῖς ὅτι ἔγνων Οὐδέποτε ὑμᾶς ἀποχωρεῖτε ἀπ’ ἐμοῦ οἱ ἐργαζόμενοι τὴν ἀνομίαν kai tote homologēsō autois hoti egnōn Oudepote hymas apochōreite ap’ emou hoi ergazomenoi tēn anomian — NA/TR · 23
The House on the Rock

Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them is like [a] wise man who built his house on the rock.
οὖν Πᾶς ὅστις ἀκούει τούτους τοὺς λόγους μου καὶ ποιεῖ αὐτούς ὁμοιωθήσεται φρονίμῳ ἀνδρὶ ὅστις ᾠκοδόμησεν αὐτοῦ τὴν οἰκίαν ἐπὶ τὴν πέτραν oun Pas hostis akouei toutous tous logous mou kai poiei autous homoiōthēsetai phronimō andri hostis ōkodomēsen autou tēn oikian epi tēn petran — NA/TR · 24

- The rain fell, the torrents raged, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall…, because its foundation was on the rock.
καὶ ἡ βροχὴ κατέβη καὶ οἱ ποταμοὶ ἦλθον καὶ οἱ ἄνεμοι ἔπνευσαν καὶ προσέπεσαν ἐκείνῃ τῇ οἰκίᾳ καὶ ἔπεσεν οὐκ γὰρ τεθεμελίωτο ἐπὶ τὴν πέτραν kai hē brochē katebē kai hoi potamoi ēlthon kai hoi anemoi epneusan kai prosepesan ekeinē tē oikia kai epesen ouk gar tethemeliōto epi tēn petran — NA/TR · 25

But everyone who hears these words of Mine and vvv does not act on them is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.
καὶ πᾶς ὁ ἀκούων τούτους τοὺς λόγους μου καὶ μὴ ποιῶν αὐτοὺς ὁμοιωθήσεται μωρῷ ἀνδρὶ ὅστις ᾠκοδόμησεν αὐτοῦ τὴν οἰκίαν ἐπὶ τὴν ἄμμον kai pas ho akouōn toutous tous logous mou kai mē poiōn autous homoiōthēsetai mōrō andri hostis ōkodomēsen autou tēn oikian epi tēn ammon — NA/TR · 26

- The rain fell, the torrents raged, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell— and great was its collapse!
καὶ ἡ βροχὴ κατέβη καὶ οἱ ποταμοὶ ἦλθον καὶ οἱ ἄνεμοι ἔπνευσαν καὶ προσέκοψαν ἐκείνῃ τῇ οἰκίᾳ καὶ ἔπεσεν καὶ μεγάλη ἦν ἡ αὐτῆς πτῶσις kai hē brochē katebē kai hoi potamoi ēlthon kai hoi anemoi epneusan kai prosekopsan ekeinē tē oikia kai epesen kai megalē ēn hē autēs ptōsis — NA/TR · 27
The Authority of Jesus

- vvv When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were astonished at His teaching,

because He taught as [one] who had authority, and not as their scribes.
