Hosea Redeems His Wife

Then the LORD said to me, “Go show love to your wife again, though she is loved by another and is an adulteress. Love her as the LORD [loves] the Israelites…, though they turn to other gods and love to offer raisin cakes [to idols]…

יְהוָ֜ה וַיֹּ֨אמֶר אֵלַ֗י לֵ֣ךְ אֱֽהַב־ אִשָּׁ֔ה ע֚וֹד אֲהֻ֥בַת רֵ֖עַ וּמְנָאָ֑פֶת כְּאַהֲבַ֤ת יְהוָה֙ אֶת־ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וְהֵ֗ם פֹּנִים֙ אֶל־ אֲחֵרִ֔ים אֱלֹהִ֣ים וְאֹהֲבֵ֖י אֲשִׁישֵׁ֥י עֲנָבִֽים׃ Yah·weh way·yō·mer ’ê·lay lêḵ ’ĕhaḇ- ’iš·šāh ‘ō·wḏ ’ă·hu·ḇaṯ rê·a‘ ū·mə·nā·’ā·p̄eṯ kə·’a·hă·ḇaṯ Yah·weh ’eṯ- bə·nê yiś·rā·’êl wə·hêm pō·nîm ’el- ’ă·ḥê·rîm ’ĕ·lō·hîm wə·’ō·hă·ḇê ’ă·šî·šê ‘ă·nā·ḇîm — WLC · 1

So I bought her for fifteen [shekels]… of silver and a homer and a lethech… of barley.

וָאֶכְּרֶ֣הָ לִּ֔י בַּחֲמִשָּׁ֥ה עָשָׂ֖ר כָּ֑סֶף וְחֹ֥מֶר וְלֵ֥תֶךְ שְׂעֹרִֽים׃ שְׂעֹרִ֖ים wā·’ek·kə·re·hā lî ba·ḥă·miš·šāh ‘ā·śār kā·sep̄ wə·ḥō·mer wə·lê·ṯeḵ śə·‘ō·rîm śə·‘ō·rîm — WLC · 2

Then I said to her, “You must live with me for many days; you must not be promiscuous… or belong to another, and I will do the same for you.”

וָאֹמַ֣ר אֵלֶ֗יהָ תֵּ֣שְׁבִי לִ֔י רַבִּים֙ יָמִ֤ים לֹ֣א תִזְנִ֔י וְלֹ֥א תִֽהְיִ֖י לְאִ֑ישׁ וְגַם־ אֲנִ֖י אֵלָֽיִךְ׃ wā·’ō·mar ’ê·le·hā tê·šə·ḇî lî rab·bîm yā·mîm lō ṯiz·nî wə·lō ṯih·yî lə·’îš wə·ḡam- ’ă·nî ’ê·lā·yiḵ — WLC · 3

For the Israelites… must live many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or sacred pillar,… and without ephod or idol.
𐤊𐤉 𐤁𐤍𐤉 𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 𐤉𐤔𐤁𐤅 𐤓𐤁𐤉𐤌 𐤉𐤌𐤉𐤌 𐤀𐤉𐤍 𐤌𐤋𐤊 𐤔𐤓 𐤅𐤀𐤉𐤍 𐤆𐤁𐤇 𐤅𐤀𐤉𐤍 𐤌𐤑𐤁𐤄 𐤅𐤀𐤉𐤍 𐤅𐤀𐤉𐤍 𐤀𐤐𐤅𐤃 𐤅𐤕𐤓𐤐𐤉𐤌
כִּ֣י׀ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל יֵֽשְׁבוּ֙ רַבִּ֗ים יָמִ֣ים אֵ֥ין מֶ֙לֶךְ֙ שָׂ֔ר וְאֵ֣ין זֶ֖בַח וְאֵ֣ין מַצֵּבָ֑ה וְאֵ֥ין וְאֵ֥ין אֵפ֖וֹד וּתְרָפִֽים׃ kî bə·nê yiś·rā·’êl yê·šə·ḇū rab·bîm yā·mîm ’ên me·leḵ śār wə·’ên ze·ḇaḥ wə·’ên maṣ·ṣê·ḇāh wə·’ên wə·’ên ’ê·p̄ō·wḏ ū·ṯə·rā·p̄îm — WLC · 4

Afterward, the people of Israel will return and seek the LORD their God and David their king. They will come trembling to the LORD and to His goodness in the last days.

אַחַ֗ר בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל יָשֻׁ֙בוּ֙ וּבִקְשׁוּ֙ אֶת־ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵיהֶ֔ם וְאֵ֖ת דָּוִ֣ד מַלְכָּ֑ם וּפָחֲד֧וּ אֶל־ יְהוָ֛ה וְאֶל־ טוּב֖וֹ בְּאַחֲרִ֥ית הַיָּמִֽים׃פ ’a·ḥar bə·nê yiś·rā·’êl yā·šu·ḇū ū·ḇiq·šū ’eṯ- Yah·weh ’ĕ·lō·hê·hem wə·’êṯ dā·wiḏ mal·kām ū·p̄ā·ḥă·ḏū ’el- Yah·weh wə·’el- ṭū·ḇōw bə·’a·ḥă·rîṯ hay·yā·mîm — WLC · 5
