Hosea’s Wife and Children

[This is] the word of the LORD that came to Hosea son of Beeri in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and [of] Jeroboam son of Jehoash, king of Israel.
𐤃𐤁𐤓 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤄𐤉𐤄 𐤀𐤋 𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏 𐤁𐤍 𐤁𐤀𐤓𐤉 𐤁𐤉𐤌𐤉 𐤏𐤆𐤉𐤄 𐤉𐤅𐤕𐤌 𐤀𐤇𐤆 𐤉𐤇𐤆𐤒𐤉𐤄 𐤌𐤋𐤊𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤃𐤄 𐤅𐤁𐤉𐤌𐤉 𐤉𐤓𐤁𐤏𐤌 𐤁𐤍 𐤉𐤅𐤀𐤔 𐤌𐤋𐤊 𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋
דְּבַר־ יְהוָ֣ה׀ אֲשֶׁ֣ר הָיָ֗ה אֶל־ הוֹשֵׁ֙עַ֙ בֶּן־ בְּאֵרִ֔י בִּימֵ֨י עֻזִּיָּ֥ה יוֹתָ֛ם אָחָ֥ז יְחִזְקִיָּ֖ה מַלְכֵ֣י יְהוּדָ֑ה וּבִימֵ֛י יָרָבְעָ֥ם בֶּן־ יוֹאָ֖שׁ מֶ֥לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ də·ḇar- Yah·weh ’ă·šer hā·yāh ’el- hō·wō·šê·a‘ ben- bə·’ê·rî bî·mê ‘uz·zî·yāh yō·w·ṯām ’ā·ḥāz yə·ḥiz·qî·yāh mal·ḵê yə·hū·ḏāh ū·ḇî·mê yā·rā·ḇə·‘ām ben- yō·w·’āš me·leḵ yiś·rā·’êl — WLC · 1

When the LORD first spoke through Hosea, He told… him, “Go, take a prostitute as your wife and have children of adultery, because this land is flagrantly prostituting itself… [by departing] from the LORD.”
𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤕𐤇𐤋𐤕 𐤃𐤁𐤓 𐤁𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏 𐤐 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤀𐤋 𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏 𐤋𐤊 𐤒𐤇 𐤆𐤍𐤅𐤍𐤉𐤌 𐤋𐤊 𐤀𐤔𐤕 𐤅𐤉𐤋𐤃𐤉 𐤆𐤍𐤅𐤍𐤉𐤌 𐤊𐤉 𐤄𐤀𐤓𐤑 𐤆𐤍𐤄 𐤕𐤆𐤍𐤄 𐤌𐤀𐤇𐤓𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄
יְהוָ֖ה תְּחִלַּ֥ת דִּבֶּר־ בְּהוֹשֵׁ֑עַ פ יְהוָ֜ה וַיֹּ֨אמֶר אֶל־ הוֹשֵׁ֗עַ לֵ֣ךְ קַח־ זְנוּנִים֙ לְךָ֞ אֵ֤שֶׁת וְיַלְדֵ֣י זְנוּנִ֔ים כִּֽי־ הָאָ֔רֶץ זָנֹ֤ה תִזְנֶה֙ מֵֽאַחֲרֵ֖י יְהוָֽה׃ Yah·weh tə·ḥil·laṯ dib·ber- bə·hō·šē·aʿ p̄ Yah·weh way·yō·mer ’el- hō·wō·šê·a‘ lêḵ qaḥ- zə·nū·nîm lə·ḵā ’ê·šeṯ wə·yal·ḏê zə·nū·nîm kî- hā·’ā·reṣ zā·nōh ṯiz·neh mê·’a·ḥă·rê Yah·weh — WLC · 2

So [Hosea] went and married Gomer daughter of Diblaim, and she conceived and bore him a son.
𐤅𐤉𐤋𐤊 𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤇 𐤀𐤕 𐤂𐤌𐤓 𐤁𐤕 𐤃𐤁𐤋𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤕𐤄𐤓 𐤅𐤕𐤋𐤃 𐤋𐤅 𐤁𐤍
וַיֵּ֙לֶךְ֙ וַיִּקַּ֔ח אֶת־ גֹּ֖מֶר בַּת־ דִּבְלָ֑יִם וַתַּ֥הַר וַתֵּֽלֶד־ ל֖וֹ בֵּֽן׃ way·yê·leḵ way·yiq·qaḥ ’eṯ- gō·mer baṯ- diḇ·lā·yim wat·ta·har wat·tê·leḏ- lōw bên — WLC · 3

Then the LORD said to [Hosea], “Name him… Jezreel, for soon… I will bring the bloodshed of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu, and I will put an end to the kingdom vvv of Israel.
𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤀𐤋𐤉𐤅 𐤒𐤓𐤀 𐤔𐤌𐤅 𐤉𐤆𐤓𐤏𐤀𐤋 𐤊𐤉 𐤏𐤅𐤃 𐤌𐤏𐤈 𐤅𐤐𐤒𐤃𐤕𐤉 𐤀𐤕 𐤃𐤌𐤉 𐤉𐤆𐤓𐤏𐤀𐤋 𐤏𐤋 𐤁𐤉𐤕 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤀 𐤅𐤄𐤔𐤁𐤕𐤉 𐤌𐤌𐤋𐤊𐤅𐤕 𐤁𐤉𐤕 𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋
יְהוָה֙ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֵלָ֔יו קְרָ֥א שְׁמ֖וֹ יִזְרְעֶ֑אל כִּי־ ע֣וֹד מְעַ֗ט וּפָ֨קַדְתִּ֜י אֶת־ דְּמֵ֤י יִזְרְעֶאל֙ עַל־ בֵּ֣ית יֵה֔וּא וְהִ֨שְׁבַּתִּ֔י מַמְלְכ֖וּת בֵּ֥ית יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ Yah·weh way·yō·mer ’ê·lāw qə·rā šə·mōw yiz·rə·‘el kî- ‘ō·wḏ mə·‘aṭ ū·p̄ā·qaḏ·tî ’eṯ- də·mê yiz·rə·‘el ‘al- bêṯ yê·hū wə·hiš·bat·tî mam·lə·ḵūṯ bêṯ yiś·rā·’êl — WLC · 4

And on that day I will break the bow of Israel in the Valley of Jezreel.”
𐤅𐤄𐤉𐤄 𐤄𐤄𐤅𐤀 𐤁𐤉𐤅𐤌 𐤅𐤔𐤁𐤓𐤕𐤉 𐤀𐤕 𐤒𐤔𐤕 𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 𐤁𐤏𐤌𐤒 𐤉𐤆𐤓𐤏𐤀𐤋
וְהָיָ֖ה הַה֑וּא בַּיּ֣וֹם וְשָֽׁבַרְתִּי֙ אֶת־ קֶ֣שֶׁת יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל בְּעֵ֖מֶק יִזְרְעֶֽאל׃ wə·hā·yāh ha·hū bay·yō·wm wə·šā·ḇar·tî ’eṯ- qe·šeṯ yiś·rā·’êl bə·‘ê·meq yiz·rə·‘el — WLC · 5

[Gomer] again conceived and gave birth to a daughter, and [the LORD] said to [Hosea], “Name her vvv Lo-ruhamah, for I will no longer… have compassion on the house of Israel, that I should ever forgive… them.
𐤏𐤅𐤃 𐤅𐤕𐤄𐤓 𐤅𐤕𐤋𐤃 𐤁𐤕 𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤋𐤅 𐤒𐤓𐤀 𐤔𐤌𐤄 𐤋𐤀 𐤓𐤇𐤌𐤄 𐤊𐤉 𐤋𐤀 𐤀𐤅𐤎𐤉𐤐 𐤏𐤅𐤃 𐤀𐤓𐤇𐤌 𐤀𐤕 𐤁𐤉𐤕 𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 𐤊𐤉 𐤍𐤔𐤀 𐤀𐤔𐤀 𐤋𐤄𐤌
עוֹד֙ וַתַּ֤הַר וַתֵּ֣לֶד בַּ֔ת וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ל֔וֹ קְרָ֥א שְׁמָ֖הּ לֹ֣א רֻחָ֑מָה כִּי֩ לֹ֨א אוֹסִ֜יף ע֗וֹד אֲרַחֵם֙ אֶת־ בֵּ֣ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל כִּֽי־ נָשֹׂ֥א אֶשָּׂ֖א לָהֶֽם׃ ‘ō·wḏ wat·ta·har wat·tê·leḏ baṯ way·yō·mer lōw qə·rā šə·māh lō ru·ḥā·māh kî lō ’ō·w·sîp̄ ‘ō·wḏ ’ă·ra·ḥêm ’eṯ- bêṯ yiś·rā·’êl kî- nā·śō ’eś·śā lā·hem — WLC · 6

Yet I will have compassion on the house of Judah, and I will save them— not by bow or sword or war, not by horses and cavalry, but by the LORD their God.”
𐤅𐤀𐤕 𐤀𐤓𐤇𐤌 𐤁𐤉𐤕 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤃𐤄 𐤅𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤏𐤕𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤋𐤀 𐤀𐤅𐤔𐤉𐤏𐤌 𐤁𐤒𐤔𐤕 𐤅𐤁𐤇𐤓𐤁 𐤅𐤁𐤌𐤋𐤇𐤌𐤄 𐤁𐤎𐤅𐤎𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤁𐤐𐤓𐤔𐤉𐤌 𐤁𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤄𐤌
וְאֶת־ אֲרַחֵ֔ם בֵּ֤ית יְהוּדָה֙ וְהֽוֹשַׁעְתִּ֖ים וְלֹ֣א אֽוֹשִׁיעֵ֗ם בְּקֶ֤שֶׁת וּבְחֶ֙רֶב֙ וּבְמִלְחָמָ֔ה בְּסוּסִ֖ים וּבְפָרָשִֽׁים׃ בַּיהוָ֣ה אֱלֹֽהֵיהֶ֑ם wə·’eṯ- ’ă·ra·ḥêm bêṯ yə·hū·ḏāh wə·hō·wō·ša‘·tîm wə·lō ’ō·wō·šî·‘êm bə·qe·šeṯ ū·ḇə·ḥe·reḇ ū·ḇə·mil·ḥā·māh bə·sū·sîm ū·ḇə·p̄ā·rā·šîm Yah·weh ’ĕ·lō·hê·hem — WLC · 7

After she had weaned vvv Lo-ruhamah, [Gomer] conceived and gave birth to a son.
𐤅𐤕𐤂𐤌𐤋 𐤀𐤕 𐤋𐤀 𐤓𐤇𐤌𐤄 𐤅𐤕𐤄𐤓 𐤅𐤕𐤋𐤃 𐤁𐤍
וַתִּגְמֹ֖ל אֶת־ לֹ֣א רֻחָ֑מָה וַתַּ֖הַר וַתֵּ֥לֶד בֵּֽן׃ wat·tiḡ·mōl ’eṯ- lō ru·ḥā·māh wat·ta·har wat·tê·leḏ bên — WLC · 8

And [the LORD] said, “Name him vvv Lo-ammi, for you are not My people, and I am not your God…
𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤒𐤓𐤀 𐤔𐤌𐤅 𐤋𐤀 𐤏𐤌𐤉 𐤊𐤉 𐤀𐤕𐤌 𐤋𐤀 𐤏𐤌𐤉 𐤅𐤀𐤍𐤊𐤉 𐤋𐤀 𐤀𐤄𐤉𐤄 𐤋𐤊𐤌𐤎
וַיֹּ֕אמֶר קְרָ֥א שְׁמ֖וֹ לֹ֣א עַמִּ֑י כִּ֤י אַתֶּם֙ לֹ֣א עַמִּ֔י וְאָנֹכִ֖י לֹֽא־ אֶהְיֶ֥ה לָכֶֽם׃ס way·yō·mer qə·rā šə·mōw lō ‘am·mî kî ’at·tem lō ‘am·mî wə·’ā·nō·ḵî lō- ’eh·yeh lå̄·ḵɛm — WLC · 9

Yet the number vvv of the Israelites will be like the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured [or] counted. And it will happen that in the [very] place where it was said to them, ‘You [are] not My people,’ they will be called… ‘sons of the living God.’
𐤌𐤎𐤐𐤓 𐤁𐤍𐤉 𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 𐤅𐤄𐤉𐤄 𐤊𐤇𐤅𐤋 𐤄𐤉𐤌 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤋𐤀 𐤉𐤌𐤃 𐤅𐤋𐤀 𐤉𐤎𐤐𐤓 𐤅𐤄𐤉𐤄 𐤁𐤌𐤒𐤅𐤌 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤋𐤄𐤌 𐤀𐤕𐤌 𐤋𐤀 𐤏𐤌𐤉 𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤋𐤄𐤌 𐤁𐤍𐤉 𐤇𐤉 𐤀𐤋
מִסְפַּ֤ר בְּנֵֽי־ יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ וְֽ֠הָיָה כְּח֣וֹל הַיָּ֔ם אֲשֶׁ֥ר לֹֽא־ יִמַּ֖ד וְלֹ֣א יִסָּפֵ֑ר וְֽ֠הָיָה בִּמְק֞וֹם אֲשֶׁר־ יֵאָמֵ֤ר לָהֶם֙ אַתֶּ֔ם לֹֽא־ עַמִּ֣י יֵאָמֵ֥ר לָהֶ֖ם בְּנֵ֥י חָֽי׃ אֵֽל־ mis·par bə·nê- yiś·rā·’êl wə·hā·yāh kə·ḥō·wl hay·yām ’ă·šer lō- yim·maḏ wə·lō yis·sā·p̄êr wə·hā·yāh bim·qō·wm ’ă·šer- yê·’ā·mêr lā·hem ’at·tem lō- ‘am·mî yê·’ā·mêr lā·hem bə·nê ḥāy ’êl- — WLC · 10

Then the people of Judah [and] of Israel will be gathered together, and they will appoint for themselves one leader, and will go up out of the land. For great [will be] the day of Jezreel.

בְּנֵֽי־ יְהוּדָ֤ה וּבְנֵֽי־ יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ וְ֠נִקְבְּצוּ יַחְדָּ֔ו וְשָׂמ֥וּ לָהֶ֛ם אֶחָ֖ד רֹ֥אשׁ וְעָל֣וּ מִן־ הָאָ֑רֶץ כִּ֥י גָד֖וֹל י֥וֹם יִזְרְעֶֽאל׃ bə·nê- yə·hū·ḏāh ū·ḇə·nê- yiś·rā·’êl wə·niq·bə·ṣū yaḥ·dāw wə·śā·mū lā·hem ’e·ḥāḏ rōš wə·‘ā·lū min- hā·’ā·reṣ kî ḡā·ḏō·wl yō·wm yiz·rə·‘el — WLC · 11
