Chapter 12

The End Times

1

[“]At that time Michael, the great prince who stands watch over your people,… will rise up. There will be a time of distress, the likes of which will not have occurred from the beginning of nations until that time. But at that time your people— everyone [whose name] is found written in the book— will be delivered.

𐤄𐤄𐤉𐤀 𐤅𐤁𐤏𐤕 𐤌𐤉𐤊𐤀𐤋 𐤄𐤂𐤃𐤅𐤋 𐤄𐤔𐤓 𐤉𐤏𐤌𐤃 𐤏𐤋 𐤁𐤍𐤉 𐤏𐤌𐤊 𐤄𐤏𐤌𐤃 𐤅𐤄𐤉𐤕𐤄 𐤏𐤕 𐤑𐤓𐤄 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤋𐤀 𐤍𐤄𐤉𐤕𐤄 𐤌𐤄𐤉𐤅𐤕 𐤂𐤅𐤉 𐤏𐤃 𐤄𐤄𐤉𐤀 𐤄𐤏𐤕 𐤄𐤄𐤉𐤀 𐤅𐤁𐤏𐤕 𐤏𐤌𐤊 𐤊𐤋 𐤄𐤍𐤌𐤑𐤀 𐤊𐤕𐤅𐤁 𐤁𐤎𐤐𐤓 𐤉𐤌𐤋𐤈

הַהִיא֩ וּבָעֵ֣ת מִֽיכָאֵ֜ל הַגָּד֗וֹל הַשַּׂ֣ר יַעֲמֹ֨ד עַל־ בְּנֵ֣י עַמֶּךָ֒ הָעֹמֵד֮ וְהָיְתָה֙ עֵ֣ת צָרָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֤ר לֹֽא־ נִהְיְתָה֙ מִֽהְי֣וֹת גּ֔וֹי עַ֖ד הַהִ֑יא הָעֵ֣ת הַהִיא֙ וּבָעֵ֤ת עַמְּךָ֔ כָּל־ הַנִּמְצָ֖א כָּת֥וּב בַּסֵּֽפֶר׃ יִמָּלֵ֣ט ha·hî ū·ḇā·‘êṯ mî·ḵā·’êl hag·gā·ḏō·wl haś·śar ya·‘ă·mōḏ ‘al- bə·nê ‘am·me·ḵā hā·‘ō·mêḏ wə·hā·yə·ṯāh ‘êṯ ṣā·rāh ’ă·šer lō- nih·yə·ṯāh mih·yō·wṯ gō·w ‘aḏ ha·hî hā·‘êṯ ha·hî ū·ḇā·‘êṯ ‘am·mə·ḵā kāl- han·nim·ṣā kā·ṯūḇ bas·sê·p̄er yim·mā·lêṭWLC · 1

And many who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake, some to everlasting life, but others to shame [and] everlasting contempt.

𐤅𐤓𐤁𐤉𐤌 𐤌𐤉𐤔𐤍𐤉 𐤏𐤐𐤓 𐤀𐤃𐤌𐤕 𐤉𐤒𐤉𐤑𐤅 𐤀𐤋𐤄 𐤏𐤅𐤋𐤌 𐤋𐤇𐤉𐤉 𐤅𐤀𐤋𐤄 𐤋𐤇𐤓𐤐𐤅𐤕 𐤏𐤅𐤋𐤌𐤎 𐤋𐤃𐤓𐤀𐤅𐤍

וְרַבִּ֕ים מִיְּשֵׁנֵ֥י עָפָ֖ר אַדְמַת־ יָקִ֑יצוּ אֵ֚לֶּה עוֹלָ֔ם לְחַיֵּ֣י וְאֵ֥לֶּה לַחֲרָפ֖וֹת עוֹלָֽם׃ס לְדִרְא֥וֹן wə·rab·bîm mî·yə·šê·nê ‘ā·p̄ār ’aḏ·maṯ- yā·qî·ṣū ’êl·leh ‘ō·w·lām lə·ḥay·yê wə·’êl·leh la·ḥă·rā·p̄ō·wṯ ‘ō·w·lām lə·ḏir·’ō·wnWLC · 2

Then the wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness [will shine] like the stars forever and ever.

𐤅𐤄𐤌𐤔𐤊𐤋𐤉𐤌 𐤉𐤆𐤄𐤓𐤅 𐤊𐤆𐤄𐤓 𐤄𐤓𐤒𐤉𐤏 𐤄𐤓𐤁𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤌𐤑𐤃𐤉𐤒𐤉 𐤊𐤊𐤅𐤊𐤁𐤉𐤌 𐤋𐤏𐤅𐤋𐤌 𐤅𐤏𐤃𐤐

וְהַ֨מַּשְׂכִּלִ֔ים יַזְהִ֖רוּ כְּזֹ֣הַר הָרָקִ֑יעַ הָֽרַבִּ֔ים וּמַצְדִּיקֵי֙ כַּכּוֹכָבִ֖ים לְעוֹלָ֥ם וָעֶֽד׃פ wə·ham·maś·ki·lîm yaz·hi·rū kə·zō·har hā·rā·qî·a‘ hā·rab·bîm ū·maṣ·dî·qê kak·kō·w·ḵā·ḇîm lə·‘ō·w·lām wā·‘eḏWLC · 3

But you, Daniel, shut up these words and seal the book until the time of the end. Many will roam to and fro, and knowledge will increase.”

𐤅𐤀𐤕𐤄 𐤃𐤍𐤉𐤀𐤋 𐤎𐤕𐤌 𐤄𐤃𐤁𐤓𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤇𐤕𐤌 𐤄𐤎𐤐𐤓 𐤏𐤃 𐤏𐤕 𐤒𐤑 𐤓𐤁𐤉𐤌 𐤉𐤔𐤈𐤈𐤅 𐤄𐤃𐤏𐤕 𐤅𐤕𐤓𐤁𐤄

וְאַתָּ֣ה דָֽנִיֵּ֗אל סְתֹ֧ם הַדְּבָרִ֛ים וַחֲתֹ֥ם הַסֵּ֖פֶר עַד־ עֵ֣ת קֵ֑ץ רַבִּ֖ים יְשֹׁטְט֥וּ הַדָּֽעַת׃ וְתִרְבֶּ֥ה wə·’at·tāh ḏā·nî·yêl sə·ṯōm had·də·ḇā·rîm wa·ḥă·ṯōm has·sê·p̄er ‘aḏ- ‘êṯ qêṣ rab·bîm yə·šō·ṭə·ṭū had·dā·‘aṯ wə·ṯir·behWLC · 4

Then I, Daniel, looked and saw two others standing there, one on this bank of the river and one on the opposite bank…

𐤀𐤍𐤉 𐤃𐤍𐤉𐤀𐤋 𐤅𐤓𐤀𐤉𐤕𐤉 𐤅𐤄𐤍𐤄 𐤔𐤍𐤉𐤌 𐤀𐤇𐤓𐤉𐤌 𐤏𐤌𐤃𐤉𐤌 𐤄𐤍𐤄 𐤀𐤇𐤃 𐤋𐤔𐤐𐤕 𐤄𐤉𐤀𐤓 𐤅𐤀𐤇𐤃 𐤄𐤍𐤄 𐤋𐤔𐤐𐤕 𐤄𐤉𐤀𐤓

אֲנִ֣י דָנִיֵּ֔אל וְרָאִ֙יתִי֙ וְהִנֵּ֛ה שְׁנַ֥יִם אֲחֵרִ֖ים עֹמְדִ֑ים הֵ֙נָּה֙ אֶחָ֥ד לִשְׂפַ֣ת הַיְאֹ֔ר וְאֶחָ֥ד הֵ֖נָּה לִשְׂפַ֥ת הַיְאֹֽר׃ ’ă·nî ḏā·nî·yêl wə·rā·’î·ṯî wə·hin·nêh šə·na·yim ’ă·ḥê·rîm ‘ō·mə·ḏîm hên·nāh ’e·ḥāḏ liś·p̄aṯ hay·’ōr wə·’e·ḥāḏ hên·nāh liś·p̄aṯ hay·’ōrWLC · 5

One of them said to the man dressed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, “How long until the fulfillment of these wonders?”

𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤋𐤀𐤉𐤔 𐤋𐤁𐤅𐤔 𐤄𐤁𐤃𐤉𐤌 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤌𐤌𐤏𐤋 𐤋𐤌𐤉𐤌𐤉 𐤄𐤉𐤀𐤓 𐤌𐤕𐤉 𐤏𐤃 𐤒𐤑 𐤄𐤐𐤋𐤀𐤅𐤕

וַיֹּ֗אמֶר לָאִישׁ֙ לְב֣וּשׁ הַבַּדִּ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר מִמַּ֖עַל לְמֵימֵ֣י הַיְאֹ֑ר מָתַ֖י עַד־ קֵ֥ץ הַפְּלָאֽוֹת׃ way·yō·mer lā·’îš lə·ḇūš hab·bad·dîm ’ă·šer mim·ma·‘al lə·mê·mê hay·’ōr mā·ṯay ‘aḏ- qêṣ hap·pə·lā·’ō·wṯWLC · 6

And the man dressed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, raised his right hand and his left hand toward heaven, and I heard him swear by Him who lives forever, saying, “It will be for a time, [and] times, and half a time. When the power of the holy people has finally been shattered, all these things will be completed.”

𐤄𐤀𐤉𐤔 𐤋𐤁𐤅𐤔 𐤄𐤁𐤃𐤉𐤌 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤌𐤌𐤏𐤋 𐤋𐤌𐤉𐤌𐤉 𐤄𐤉𐤀𐤓 𐤅𐤉𐤓𐤌 𐤉𐤌𐤉𐤍𐤅 𐤅𐤔𐤌𐤀𐤋𐤅 𐤀𐤋 𐤄𐤔𐤌𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤀𐤔𐤌𐤏 𐤀𐤕 𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤁𐤏 𐤁𐤇𐤉 𐤄𐤏𐤅𐤋𐤌 𐤊𐤉 𐤋𐤌𐤅𐤏𐤃 𐤌𐤅𐤏𐤃𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤇𐤑𐤉 𐤉𐤃 𐤒𐤃𐤔 𐤏𐤌 𐤅𐤊𐤊𐤋𐤅𐤕 𐤍𐤐𐤑 𐤊𐤋 𐤀𐤋𐤄 𐤕𐤊𐤋𐤉𐤍𐤄

הָאִ֣ישׁ׀ לְב֣וּשׁ הַבַּדִּ֗ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר מִמַּעַל֮ לְמֵימֵ֣י הַיְאֹר֒ וַיָּ֨רֶם יְמִינ֤וֹ וּשְׂמֹאלוֹ֙ אֶל־ הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם וָאֶשְׁמַ֞ע אֶת־ וַיִּשָּׁבַ֖ע בְּחֵ֣י הָעוֹלָ֑ם כִּי֩ לְמוֹעֵ֨ד מֽוֹעֲדִ֜ים וָחֵ֗צִי יַד־ קֹ֖דֶשׁ עַם־ וּכְכַלּ֛וֹת נַפֵּ֥ץ כָל־ אֵֽלֶּה׃ תִּכְלֶ֥ינָה hā·’îš lə·ḇūš hab·bad·dîm ’ă·šer mim·ma·‘al lə·mê·mê hay·’ōr way·yā·rem yə·mî·nōw ū·śə·mō·lōw ’el- haš·šā·ma·yim wā·’eš·ma‘ ’eṯ- way·yiš·šā·ḇa‘ bə·ḥê hā·‘ō·w·lām kî lə·mō·w·‘êḏ mō·w·‘ă·ḏîm wā·ḥê·ṣî yaḏ- qō·ḏeš ‘am- ū·ḵə·ḵal·lō·wṯ nap·pêṣ ḵāl ’êl·leh tiḵ·le·nāhWLC · 7

I heard, but I did not understand. So I asked, “My lord, what will be the outcome of these [things]?”

𐤅𐤀𐤍𐤉 𐤔𐤌𐤏𐤕𐤉 𐤅𐤋𐤀 𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤍 𐤅𐤀𐤌𐤓𐤄 𐤀𐤃𐤍𐤉 𐤌𐤄 𐤀𐤇𐤓𐤉𐤕 𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤐

וַאֲנִ֥י שָׁמַ֖עְתִּי וְלֹ֣א אָבִ֑ין וָאֹ֣מְרָ֔ה אֲדֹנִ֕י מָ֥ה אַחֲרִ֖ית אֵֽלֶּה׃פ wa·’ă·nî šā·ma‘·tî wə·lō ’ā·ḇîn wā·’ō·mə·rāh ’ă·ḏō·nî māh ’a·ḥă·rîṯ ’êl·lehWLC · 8

“Go on your way, Daniel,” he replied, “for the words [are] closed up and sealed until the time of the end.

𐤋𐤊 𐤃𐤍𐤉𐤀𐤋 𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤊𐤉 𐤄𐤃𐤁𐤓𐤉𐤌 𐤎𐤕𐤌𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤇𐤕𐤌𐤉𐤌 𐤏𐤃 𐤏𐤕 𐤒𐤑

לֵ֣ךְ דָּנִיֵּ֑אל וַיֹּ֖אמֶר כִּֽי־ הַדְּבָרִ֖ים סְתֻמִ֧ים וַחֲתֻמִ֛ים עַד־ עֵ֥ת קֵֽץ׃ lêḵ dā·nî·yêl way·yō·mer kî- had·də·ḇā·rîm sə·ṯu·mîm wa·ḥă·ṯu·mîm ‘aḏ- ‘êṯ qêṣWLC · 9

Many will be purified, made spotless, and refined, but the wicked will continue to act wickedly. None… of the wicked will understand, but the wise will understand.

𐤓𐤁𐤉𐤌 𐤉𐤕𐤁𐤓𐤓𐤅 𐤅𐤉𐤕𐤋𐤁𐤍𐤅 𐤅𐤉𐤑𐤓𐤐𐤅 𐤓𐤔𐤏𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤄𐤓𐤔𐤉𐤏𐤅 𐤅𐤋𐤀 𐤊𐤋 𐤓𐤔𐤏𐤉𐤌 𐤉𐤁𐤉𐤍𐤅 𐤅𐤄𐤌𐤔𐤊𐤋𐤉𐤌 𐤉𐤁𐤉𐤍𐤅

רַבִּ֔ים יִ֠תְבָּֽרֲרוּ וְיִֽתְלַבְּנ֤וּ וְיִצָּֽרְפוּ֙ רְשָׁעִ֔ים וְהִרְשִׁ֣יעוּ וְלֹ֥א כָּל־ רְשָׁעִ֑ים יָבִ֖ינוּ וְהַמַּשְׂכִּלִ֖ים יָבִֽינוּ׃ rab·bîm yiṯ·bā·ră·rū wə·yiṯ·lab·bə·nū wə·yiṣ·ṣā·rə·p̄ū rə·šā·‘îm wə·hir·šî·‘ū wə·lō kāl- rə·šā·‘îm yā·ḇî·nū wə·ham·maś·ki·lîm yā·ḇî·nūWLC · 10

And from the time the daily [sacrifice] is abolished and the abomination of desolation set up, there will be 1,290… days.

𐤅𐤌𐤏𐤕 𐤄𐤕𐤌𐤉𐤃 𐤄𐤅𐤎𐤓 𐤔𐤒𐤅𐤑 𐤔𐤌𐤌 𐤅𐤋𐤕𐤕 𐤀𐤋𐤐 𐤌𐤀𐤕𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤕𐤔𐤏𐤉𐤌 𐤉𐤌𐤉𐤌

וּמֵעֵת֙ הַתָּמִ֔יד הוּסַ֣ר שִׁקּ֣וּץ שֹׁמֵ֑ם וְלָתֵ֖ת אֶ֖לֶף מָאתַ֥יִם וְתִשְׁעִֽים׃ יָמִ֕ים ū·mê·‘êṯ hat·tā·mîḏ hū·sar šiq·qūṣ šō·mêm wə·lā·ṯêṯ ’e·lep̄ mā·ṯa·yim wə·ṯiš·‘îm yā·mîmWLC · 11

Blessed [is] he who waits and reaches the end of the 1,335… days.

𐤀𐤔𐤓𐤉 𐤄𐤌𐤇𐤊𐤄 𐤅𐤉𐤂𐤉𐤏 𐤀𐤋𐤐 𐤔𐤋𐤔 𐤌𐤀𐤅𐤕 𐤔𐤋𐤔𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤇𐤌𐤔𐤄 𐤋𐤉𐤌𐤉𐤌

אַשְׁרֵ֥י הַֽמְחַכֶּ֖ה וְיַגִּ֑יעַ אֶ֕לֶף שְׁלֹ֥שׁ מֵא֖וֹת שְׁלֹשִׁ֥ים וַחֲמִשָּֽׁה׃ לְיָמִ֕ים ’aš·rê ham·ḥak·keh wə·yag·gî·a‘ ’e·lep̄ šə·lōš mê·’ō·wṯ šə·lō·šîm wa·ḥă·miš·šāh lə·yā·mîmWLC · 12

13

But as for you, go on your way until the end. You will rest, and then you will arise to your inheritance at the end of the days.”

𐤅𐤀𐤕𐤄 𐤋𐤊 𐤋𐤒𐤑 𐤅𐤕𐤍𐤅𐤇 𐤅𐤕𐤏𐤌𐤃 𐤋𐤂𐤓𐤋𐤊 𐤋𐤒𐤑 𐤄𐤉𐤌𐤉𐤍

וְאַתָּ֖ה לֵ֣ךְ לַקֵּ֑ץ וְתָנ֛וּחַ וְתַעֲמֹ֥ד לְגֹרָלְךָ֖ לְקֵ֥ץ הַיָּמִֽין׃ wə·’at·tāh lêḵ laq·qêṣ wə·ṯā·nū·aḥ wə·ṯa·‘ă·mōḏ lə·ḡō·rā·lə·ḵā lə·qêṣ hay·yā·mînWLC · 13
