Chapter 36
A Prophecy to the Mountains of Israel
1
[“]And you, son of man, prophesy to the mountains of Israel and say: O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the LORD.
𐤅𐤀𐤕𐤄 𐤁𐤍 𐤀𐤃𐤌 𐤄𐤍𐤁𐤀 𐤀𐤋 𐤄𐤓𐤉 𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 𐤅𐤀𐤌𐤓𐤕 𐤄𐤓𐤉 𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 𐤔𐤌𐤏𐤅 𐤃𐤁𐤓 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄
וְאַתָּ֣ה בֶן־ אָדָ֔ם הִנָּבֵ֖א אֶל־ הָרֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וְאָ֣מַרְתָּ֔ הָרֵי֙ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל שִׁמְע֖וּ דְּבַר־ יְהוָֽה׃ wə·’at·tāh ḇen- ’ā·ḏām hin·nā·ḇê ’el- hā·rê yiś·rā·’êl wə·’ā·mar·tā hā·rê yiś·rā·’êl šim·‘ū də·ḇar- Yah·weh — WLC · 1

This is what the Lord GOD says: Because the enemy has said of you, ‘Aha! The ancient heights have become our possession,’
𐤊𐤄 𐤀𐤃𐤍𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤉𐤏𐤍 𐤄𐤀𐤅𐤉𐤁 𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤏𐤋𐤉𐤊𐤌 𐤄𐤀𐤇 𐤏𐤅𐤋𐤌 𐤅𐤁𐤌𐤅𐤕 𐤄𐤉𐤕𐤄 𐤋𐤍𐤅 𐤋𐤌𐤅𐤓𐤔𐤄
כֹּ֤ה אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֔ה אָמַר֙ יַ֣עַן הָאוֹיֵ֛ב אָמַ֧ר עֲלֵיכֶ֖ם הֶאָ֑ח עוֹלָ֔ם וּבָמ֣וֹת הָ֥יְתָה לָּֽנוּ׃ לְמֽוֹרָשָׁ֖ה kōh ’ă·ḏō·nāy Yah·weh ’ā·mar ya·‘an hā·’ō·w·yêḇ ’ā·mar ‘ă·lê·ḵem he·’āḥ ‘ō·w·lām ū·ḇā·mō·wṯ hā·yə·ṯāh lā·nū lə·mō·w·rā·šāh — WLC · 2

therefore prophesy and declare that this is what the Lord GOD says: Because… they have made you desolate and have trampled you on every side, so that you became a possession of the rest of the nations and were taken up in slander by the lips of [their] talkers…,
𐤋𐤊𐤍 𐤄𐤍𐤁𐤀 𐤅𐤀𐤌𐤓𐤕 𐤊𐤄 𐤀𐤃𐤍𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤉𐤏𐤍 𐤁𐤉𐤏𐤍 𐤔𐤌𐤅𐤕 𐤅𐤔𐤀𐤐 𐤀𐤕𐤊𐤌 𐤌𐤎𐤁𐤉𐤁 𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤅𐤕𐤊𐤌 𐤌𐤅𐤓𐤔𐤄 𐤋𐤔𐤀𐤓𐤉𐤕 𐤄𐤂𐤅𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤕𐤏𐤋𐤅 𐤅𐤃𐤁𐤕 𐤏𐤋 𐤔𐤐𐤕 𐤋𐤔𐤅𐤍 𐤏𐤌
לָכֵן֙ הִנָּבֵ֣א וְאָמַרְתָּ֔ כֹּ֥ה אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֑ה אָמַ֖ר יַ֣עַן בְּיַ֡עַן שַׁמּוֹת֩ וְשָׁאֹ֨ף אֶתְכֶ֜ם מִסָּבִ֗יב לִֽהְיוֹתְכֶ֤ם מֽוֹרָשָׁה֙ לִשְׁאֵרִ֣ית הַגּוֹיִ֔ם וַתֵּֽעֲל֛וּ וְדִבַּת־ עַל־ שְׂפַ֥ת לָשׁ֖וֹן עָֽם׃ lā·ḵên hin·nā·ḇê wə·’ā·mar·tā kōh ’ă·ḏō·nāy Yah·weh ’ā·mar ya·‘an bə·ya·‘an šam·mō·wṯ wə·šā·’ōp̄ ’eṯ·ḵem mis·sā·ḇîḇ lih·yō·wṯ·ḵem mō·w·rā·šāh liš·’ê·rîṯ hag·gō·w·yim wat·tê·‘ă·lū wə·ḏib·baṯ- ‘al- śə·p̄aṯ lā·šō·wn ‘ām — WLC · 3

therefore, O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD. This is what the Lord GOD says to the mountains and hills, to the ravines and valleys, to the desolate ruins and abandoned cities, which have become a spoil and a mockery to the rest of the nations around you.

לָכֵן֙ הָרֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל שִׁמְע֖וּ דְּבַר־ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֑ה כֹּֽה־ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְ֠הוִה אָמַ֣ר לֶהָרִ֨ים וְלַגְּבָע֜וֹת לָאֲפִיקִ֣ים וְלַגֵּאָי֗וֹת הַשֹּֽׁמְמוֹת֙ וְלֶחֳרָב֤וֹת הַנֶּעֱזָב֔וֹת וְלֶעָרִ֣ים אֲשֶׁ֨ר הָי֤וּ לְבַז֙ וּלְלַ֔עַג לִשְׁאֵרִ֥ית הַגּוֹיִ֖ם אֲשֶׁ֥ר מִסָּבִֽיב׃ס lā·ḵên hā·rê yiś·rā·’êl šim·‘ū də·ḇar- ’ă·ḏō·nāy Yah·weh kōh- ’ă·ḏō·nāy Yah·weh ’ā·mar le·hā·rîm wə·lag·gə·ḇā·‘ō·wṯ lā·’ă·p̄î·qîm wə·lag·gê·’ā·yō·wṯ haš·šō·mə·mō·wṯ wə·le·ḥo·rā·ḇō·wṯ han·ne·‘ĕ·zā·ḇō·wṯ wə·le·‘ā·rîm ’ă·šer hā·yū lə·ḇaz ū·lə·la·‘aḡ liš·’ê·rîṯ hag·gō·w·yim ’ă·šer mis·sā·ḇîḇ — WLC · 4

Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: Surely… in My burning zeal I have spoken against the rest of the nations, and against all Edom, who took My land… as their own possession with wholehearted… joy and utter contempt…, so that its pastureland became plunder.

לָכֵ֗ן כֹּֽה־ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִה֒ אָמַר֮ אִם־ לֹ֠א בְּאֵ֨שׁ קִנְאָתִ֥י דִבַּ֛רְתִּי עַל־ שְׁאֵרִ֥ית הַגּוֹיִ֖ם וְעַל־ כֻּלָּ֑א אֱד֣וֹם אֲשֶׁ֣ר נָתְנֽוּ־ אֶת־ אַרְצִ֣י׀ לָ֠הֶם לְמ֨וֹרָשָׁ֜ה כָּל־ לֵבָב֙ בְּשִׂמְחַ֤ת בִּשְׁאָ֣ט נֶ֔פֶשׁ לְמַ֥עַן מִגְרָשָׁ֖הּ לָבַֽז׃ lā·ḵên kōh- ’ă·ḏō·nāy Yah·weh ’ā·mar ’im- lō bə·’êš qin·’ā·ṯî ḏib·bar·tî ‘al- šə·’ê·rîṯ hag·gō·w·yim wə·‘al- kul·lā ’ĕ·ḏō·wm ’ă·šer nā·ṯə·nū- ’eṯ- ’ar·ṣî lā·hem lə·mō·w·rā·šāh kāl- lê·ḇāḇ bə·śim·ḥaṯ biš·’āṭ ne·p̄eš lə·ma·‘an miḡ·rā·šāh lā·ḇaz — WLC · 5

Therefore, prophesy concerning the land of Israel and tell the mountains and hills, the ravines and valleys, that this is what the Lord GOD says: Behold, I have spoken in My burning zeal because you have endured the reproach of the nations.
𐤋𐤊𐤍 𐤄𐤍𐤁𐤀 𐤏𐤋 𐤀𐤃𐤌𐤕 𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 𐤅𐤀𐤌𐤓𐤕 𐤋𐤄𐤓𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤋𐤂𐤁𐤏𐤅𐤕 𐤋𐤀𐤐𐤉𐤒𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤋𐤂𐤀𐤉𐤅𐤕 𐤊𐤄 𐤀𐤃𐤍𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤄𐤍𐤍𐤉 𐤃𐤁𐤓𐤕𐤉 𐤅𐤁𐤇𐤌𐤕𐤉 𐤁𐤒𐤍𐤀𐤕𐤉 𐤉𐤏𐤍 𐤍𐤔𐤀𐤕𐤌 𐤊𐤋𐤌𐤕 𐤂𐤅𐤉𐤌
לָכֵ֕ן הִנָּבֵ֖א עַל־ אַדְמַ֣ת יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וְאָמַרְתָּ֡ לֶהָרִ֣ים וְ֠לַגְּבָעוֹת לָאֲפִיקִ֨ים וְלַגֵּאָי֜וֹת כֹּֽה־ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֗ה אָמַ֣ר׀ הִנְנִ֨י דִּבַּ֔רְתִּי וּבַחֲמָתִי֙ בְקִנְאָתִ֤י יַ֛עַן נְשָׂאתֶֽם׃ כְּלִמַּ֥ת גּוֹיִ֖ם lā·ḵên hin·nā·ḇê ‘al- ’aḏ·maṯ yiś·rā·’êl wə·’ā·mar·tā le·hā·rîm wə·lag·gə·ḇā·‘ō·wṯ lā·’ă·p̄î·qîm wə·lag·gê·’ā·yō·wṯ kōh- ’ă·ḏō·nāy Yah·weh ’ā·mar hin·nî dib·bar·tî ū·ḇa·ḥă·mā·ṯî ḇə·qin·’ā·ṯî ya·‘an nə·śā·ṯem kə·lim·maṯ gō·w·yim — WLC · 6

Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: I have sworn with an uplifted hand that surely… the nations around you… will endure reproach of their own.
𐤋𐤊𐤍 𐤊𐤄 𐤀𐤃𐤍𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤀𐤍𐤉 𐤍𐤔𐤀𐤕𐤉 𐤀𐤕 𐤉𐤃𐤉 𐤀𐤌 𐤋𐤀 𐤄𐤂𐤅𐤉𐤌 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤌𐤎𐤁𐤉𐤁 𐤋𐤊𐤌 𐤄𐤌𐤄 𐤉𐤔𐤀𐤅 𐤊𐤋𐤌𐤕𐤌
לָכֵ֗ן כֹּ֤ה אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֔ה אָמַר֙ אֲנִ֖י נָשָׂ֣אתִי אֶת־ יָדִ֑י אִם־ לֹ֤א הַגּוֹיִם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר מִסָּבִ֔יב לָכֶ֣ם הֵ֖מָּה יִשָּֽׂאוּ׃ כְּלִמָּתָ֥ם lā·ḵên kōh ’ă·ḏō·nāy Yah·weh ’ā·mar ’ă·nî nā·śā·ṯî ’eṯ- yā·ḏî ’im- lō hag·gō·w·yim ’ă·šer mis·sā·ḇîḇ lā·ḵem hêm·māh yiś·śā·’ū kə·lim·mā·ṯām — WLC · 7

But you, O mountains of Israel, will produce branches and bear fruit for My people Israel, for they will soon come home.

וְאַתֶּ֞ם הָרֵ֤י יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ תִּתֵּ֔נוּ עַנְפְּכֶ֣ם תִּשְׂא֖וּ וּפֶרְיְכֶ֥ם לְעַמִּ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל כִּ֥י קֵרְב֖וּ לָבֽוֹא׃ wə·’at·tem hā·rê yiś·rā·’êl tit·tê·nū ‘an·pə·ḵem tiś·’ū ū·p̄er·yə·ḵem lə·‘am·mî yiś·rā·’êl kî qê·rə·ḇū lā·ḇō·w — WLC · 8

For behold, I am on your side; I will turn toward you, and you will be tilled and sown.

כִּ֖י הִנְנִ֣י אֲלֵיכֶ֑ם וּפָנִ֣יתִי אֲלֵיכֶ֔ם וְנֶעֱבַדְתֶּ֖ם וְנִזְרַעְתֶּֽם׃ kî hin·nî ’ă·lê·ḵem ū·p̄ā·nî·ṯî ’ă·lê·ḵem wə·ne·‘ĕ·ḇaḏ·tem wə·niz·ra‘·tem — WLC · 9

I will multiply the people upon you -— the house of Israel in its entirety. The cities will be inhabited and the ruins rebuilt.
𐤅𐤄𐤓𐤁𐤉𐤕𐤉 𐤀𐤃𐤌 𐤏𐤋𐤉𐤊𐤌 𐤊𐤋 𐤁𐤉𐤕 𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 𐤊𐤋𐤄 𐤄𐤏𐤓𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤍𐤔𐤁𐤅 𐤅𐤄𐤇𐤓𐤁𐤅𐤕 𐤕𐤁𐤍𐤉𐤍𐤄
וְהִרְבֵּיתִ֤י אָדָ֔ם עֲלֵיכֶם֙ כָּל־ בֵּ֥ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל כֻּלֹּ֑ה הֶֽעָרִ֔ים וְנֹֽשְׁבוּ֙ וְהֶחֳרָב֖וֹת תִּבָּנֶֽינָה׃ wə·hir·bê·ṯî ’ā·ḏām ‘ă·lê·ḵem kāl- bêṯ yiś·rā·’êl kul·lōh he·‘ā·rîm wə·nō·šə·ḇū wə·he·ḥo·rā·ḇō·wṯ tib·bā·ne·nāh — WLC · 10

I will fill… you with people and animals, and they will multiply and be fruitful. I will make you as inhabited as you once were, and I will make you prosper more than before. Then you will know that I am the LORD.
𐤅𐤄𐤓𐤁𐤉𐤕𐤉 𐤏𐤋𐤉𐤊𐤌 𐤀𐤃𐤌 𐤅𐤁𐤄𐤌𐤄 𐤅𐤓𐤁𐤅 𐤅𐤐𐤓𐤅 𐤅𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤁𐤕𐤉 𐤀𐤕𐤊𐤌 𐤊𐤒𐤃𐤌𐤅𐤕𐤉𐤊𐤌 𐤅𐤄𐤈𐤁𐤕𐤉 𐤌𐤓𐤀𐤔𐤕𐤉𐤊𐤌 𐤅𐤉𐤃𐤏𐤕𐤌 𐤊𐤉 𐤀𐤍𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄
וְהִרְבֵּיתִ֧י עֲלֵיכֶ֛ם אָדָ֥ם וּבְהֵמָ֖ה וְרָב֣וּ וּפָר֑וּ וְהוֹשַׁבְתִּ֨י אֶתְכֶ֜ם כְּקַדְמֽוֹתֵיכֶ֗ם וְהֵטִֽבֹתִי֙ מֵרִאשֹׁ֣תֵיכֶ֔ם וִֽידַעְתֶּ֖ם כִּֽי־ אֲנִ֥י יְהוָֽה׃ wə·hir·bê·ṯî ‘ă·lê·ḵem ’ā·ḏām ū·ḇə·hê·māh wə·rā·ḇū ū·p̄ā·rū wə·hō·wō·šaḇ·tî ’eṯ·ḵem kə·qaḏ·mō·w·ṯê·ḵem wə·hê·ṭi·ḇō·ṯî mê·ri·šō·ṯê·ḵem wî·ḏa‘·tem kî- ’ă·nî Yah·weh — WLC · 11

Yes, {I will cause} My people Israel to walk upon you; they will possess you, and you will be their inheritance, and you will no longer… deprive them [of their children].

אָדָ֜ם אֶת־ עַמִּ֤י יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ וְהוֹלַכְתִּי֩ עֲלֵיכֶ֨ם וִֽירֵשׁ֔וּךָ וְהָיִ֥יתָ לָהֶ֖ם לְנַחֲלָ֑ה וְלֹא־ תוֹסִ֥ף ע֖וֹד לְשַׁכְּלָֽם׃ס ’ā·ḏām ’eṯ- ‘am·mî yiś·rā·’êl wə·hō·w·laḵ·tî ‘ă·lê·ḵem wî·rê·šū·ḵā wə·hā·yî·ṯā lā·hem lə·na·ḥă·lāh wə·lō- ṯō·w·sip̄ ‘ō·wḏ lə·šak·kə·lām — WLC · 12

For this is what the Lord GOD says: Because people say to you, ‘You devour men and deprive your nation… of its children,’
𐤊𐤄 𐤀𐤃𐤍𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤉𐤏𐤍 𐤀𐤌𐤓𐤉𐤌 𐤋𐤊𐤌 𐤀𐤕𐤉 𐤀𐤊𐤋𐤕 𐤀𐤃𐤌 𐤂𐤅𐤉𐤊 𐤄𐤉𐤉𐤕 𐤅𐤌𐤔𐤊𐤋𐤕
כֹּ֤ה אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֔ה אָמַר֙ יַ֚עַן אֹמְרִ֣ים לָכֶ֔ם אָתִּי אֹכֶ֥לֶת אָדָ֖ם גּוֹיֵךְ הָיִֽית׃ וּמְשַׁכֶּ֥לֶת kōh ’ă·ḏō·nāy Yah·weh ’ā·mar ya·‘an ’ō·mə·rîm lā·ḵem ʾå̄t·tī ’ō·ḵe·leṯ ’ā·ḏām gō·yēḵ hā·yîṯ ū·mə·šak·ke·leṯ — WLC · 13

therefore you will no longer devour men or deprive… your nation {of its children},… declares the Lord GOD.

לָכֵ֗ן לֹא־ ע֔וֹד תֹ֣אכְלִי אָדָם֙ תְכַשְּׁלִי ע֑וֹד וְגוֹיֵךְ לֹ֣א נְאֻ֖ם אֲדֹנָ֥י יְהוִֽה׃ lā·ḵên lō- ‘ō·wḏ ṯō·ḵə·lî ’ā·ḏām ṯə·ḵaš·šə·lī ‘ō·wḏ wə·ḡō·yēḵ lō nə·’um ’ă·ḏō·nāy Yah·weh — WLC · 14

I will no longer allow the taunts of the nations to be heard against you, and you will no longer endure the reproach of the peoples [or]… cause your nation to stumble, declares the Lord GOD.”

A New Heart and a New Spirit

Again the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

“Son of man, when the people of Israel lived in their land, they defiled it by their own ways and deeds. Their behavior before Me was like the uncleanness of a [woman’s] impurity.

So I poured out My wrath upon them because of the blood they had shed on the land, and because they had defiled it with their idols.

I dispersed them among the nations, and they were scattered throughout the lands. I judged them according to their ways and deeds.

וָאָפִ֤יץ אֹתָם֙ בַּגּוֹיִ֔ם וַיִּזָּר֖וּ בָּאֲרָצ֑וֹת שְׁפַטְתִּֽים׃ כְּדַרְכָּ֥ם וְכַעֲלִילוֹתָ֖ם wā·’ā·p̄îṣ ’ō·ṯām bag·gō·w·yim way·yiz·zā·rū bā·’ă·rā·ṣō·wṯ šə·p̄aṭ·tîm kə·ḏar·kām wə·ḵa·‘ă·lî·lō·w·ṯām — WLC · 19

- And wherever they went among the nations,… they profaned My holy name, because it was said of them, ‘These are the people of the LORD, yet they had to leave His land.’

But I had concern for My holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the nations to which they had gone…

Therefore tell the house of Israel that this is what the Lord GOD says: It is not for your sake that I will act, O house of Israel, but… for My holy name, which you profaned among the nations to which you went…

I will show the holiness of My great name, which has been profaned among the nations— the name you have profaned among them. Then the nations will know that I am the LORD, declares the Lord GOD, when I show My holiness in you before their eyes.

וְקִדַּשְׁתִּ֞י אֶת־ הַגָּד֗וֹל שְׁמִ֣י הַֽמְחֻלָּל֙ בַּגּוֹיִ֔ם אֲשֶׁ֥ר חִלַּלְתֶּ֖ם בְּתוֹכָ֑ם הַגּוֹיִ֜ם וְיָדְע֨וּ כִּי־ אֲנִ֣י יְהוָ֗ה נְאֻם֙ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֔ה בְּהִקָּדְשִׁ֥י בָכֶ֖ם לְעֵינֵיהֶֽם׃ wə·qid·daš·tî ’eṯ- hag·gā·ḏō·wl šə·mî ham·ḥul·lāl bag·gō·w·yim ’ă·šer ḥil·lal·tem bə·ṯō·w·ḵām hag·gō·w·yim wə·yā·ḏə·‘ū kî- ’ă·nî Yah·weh nə·’um ’ă·ḏō·nāy Yah·weh bə·hiq·qā·ḏə·šî ḇā·ḵem lə·‘ê·nê·hem — WLC · 23

For I will take you from among the nations and gather you out of all the countries, and I will bring you back into your own land.

וְלָקַחְתִּ֤י אֶתְכֶם֙ מִן־ הַגּוֹיִ֔ם וְקִבַּצְתִּ֥י אֶתְכֶ֖ם מִכָּל־ הָאֲרָצ֑וֹת וְהֵבֵאתִ֥י אֶתְכֶ֖ם אֶל־ אַדְמַתְכֶֽם׃ wə·lā·qaḥ·tî ’eṯ·ḵem min- hag·gō·w·yim wə·qib·baṣ·tî ’eṯ·ḵem mik·kāl hā·’ă·rā·ṣō·wṯ wə·hê·ḇê·ṯî ’eṯ·ḵem ’el- ’aḏ·maṯ·ḵem — WLC · 24

I will also sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean. I will cleanse you from all your impurities and all your idols.

I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will remove your heart of stone and give you a heart… of flesh.

And I will put My Spirit within you and cause - you to walk in My statutes and to carefully observe My ordinances.

וְאֶת־ אֶתֵּ֣ן רוּחִ֖י בְּקִרְבְּכֶ֑ם וְעָשִׂ֗יתִי אֵ֤ת אֲשֶׁר־ תֵּלֵ֔כוּ בְּחֻקַּי֙ תִּשְׁמְר֖וּ וַעֲשִׂיתֶֽם׃ וּמִשְׁפָּטַ֥י wə·’eṯ- ’et·tên rū·ḥî bə·qir·bə·ḵem wə·‘ā·śî·ṯî ’êṯ ’ă·šer- tê·lê·ḵū bə·ḥuq·qay tiš·mə·rū wa·‘ă·śî·ṯem ū·miš·pā·ṭay — WLC · 27

Then you will live in the land that I gave your forefathers; you will be My people, and I will be your God.

I will save you from all your uncleanness. I will summon… the grain and make it plentiful, and I will not bring famine upon you.

וְהוֹשַׁעְתִּ֣י אֶתְכֶ֔ם מִכֹּ֖ל טֻמְאֽוֹתֵיכֶ֑ם וְקָרָ֤אתִי אֶל־ הַדָּגָן֙ וְהִרְבֵּיתִ֣י אֹת֔וֹ וְלֹא־ אֶתֵּ֥ן רָעָֽב׃ עֲלֵיכֶ֖ם wə·hō·wō·ša‘·tî ’eṯ·ḵem mik·kōl ṭum·’ō·w·ṯê·ḵem wə·qā·rā·ṯî ’el- had·dā·ḡān wə·hir·bê·ṯî ’ō·ṯōw wə·lō- ’et·tên rā·‘āḇ ‘ă·lê·ḵem — WLC · 29

I will also make the fruit of the trees and the crops of the field plentiful, so that you will no longer bear reproach among the nations on account of famine.

Then you will remember your evil ways and wicked deeds -…, and you will loathe yourselves for your iniquities and abominations.

This is what the Lord GOD says: On the day I cleanse you from all your iniquities, I will cause the cities to be resettled and the ruins to be rebuilt.

The desolate land will be cultivated instead of lying desolate in the sight of all who pass through.

Then they will say, ‘This land that was desolate has become like the garden of Eden. The cities that were once ruined, desolate, and destroyed are now fortified and inhabited.’

וְאָמְר֗וּ הַלֵּ֙זוּ֙ הָאָ֤רֶץ הַנְּשַׁמָּ֔ה הָיְתָ֖ה כְּגַן־ עֵ֑דֶן וְהֶעָרִ֧ים הֶחֳרֵב֛וֹת וְהַֽנְשַׁמּ֥וֹת וְהַנֶּהֱרָס֖וֹת בְּצוּר֥וֹת יָשָֽׁבוּ׃ wə·’ā·mə·rū hal·lê·zū hā·’ā·reṣ han·nə·šam·māh hā·yə·ṯāh kə·ḡan- ‘ê·ḏen wə·he·‘ā·rîm he·ḥo·rê·ḇō·wṯ wə·han·šam·mō·wṯ wə·han·ne·hĕ·rā·sō·wṯ bə·ṣū·rō·wṯ yā·šā·ḇū — WLC · 35

Then the nations around you that remain will know that I, the LORD, have rebuilt what was destroyed, and I have replanted what was desolate. I, the LORD, have spoken, and I will do it.

הַגּוֹיִ֗ם סְבִיבוֹתֵיכֶם֒ אֲשֶׁ֣ר יִֽשָּׁאֲרוּ֮ וְיָדְע֣וּ כִּ֣י׀ אֲנִ֣י יְהוָ֗ה בָּנִ֙יתִי֙ הַנֶּ֣הֱרָס֔וֹת נָטַ֖עְתִּי הַנְּשַׁמָּ֑ה אֲנִ֥י יְהוָ֖ה דִּבַּ֥רְתִּי וְעָשִֽׂיתִי׃ס hag·gō·w·yim sə·ḇî·ḇō·w·ṯê·ḵem ’ă·šer yiš·šā·’ă·rū wə·yā·ḏə·‘ū kî ’ă·nî Yah·weh bā·nî·ṯî han·ne·hĕ·rā·sō·wṯ nā·ṭa‘·tî han·nə·šam·māh ’ă·nî Yah·weh dib·bar·tî wə·‘ā·śî·ṯî — WLC · 36

This is what the Lord GOD says: Once again I will hear the plea of the house of Israel and do for them this: I will multiply their people like a flock.

כֹּ֤ה אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֔ה אָמַר֙ ע֗וֹד אִדָּרֵ֥שׁ לְבֵֽית־ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לַעֲשׂ֣וֹת לָהֶ֑ם זֹ֛את אַרְבֶּ֥ה אֹתָ֛ם אָדָֽם׃ כַּצֹּ֖אן kōh ’ă·ḏō·nāy Yah·weh ’ā·mar ‘ō·wḏ ’id·dā·rêš lə·ḇêṯ- yiś·rā·’êl la·‘ă·śō·wṯ lā·hem zōṯ ’ar·beh ’ō·ṯām ’ā·ḏām kaṣ·ṣōn — WLC · 37

Like the numerous flocks for sacrifices… at Jerusalem during her appointed feasts, so the ruined cities will be filled with flocks of people. Then they will know that I am the LORD.”
