Chapter 46

Judgment on Egypt

[This is] the word of the LORD about the nations— [the word] that came to Jeremiah the prophet

𐤃𐤁𐤓 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤏𐤋 𐤄𐤂𐤅𐤉𐤌 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤄𐤉𐤄 𐤀𐤋 𐤉𐤓𐤌𐤉𐤄𐤅 𐤄𐤍𐤁𐤉𐤀

דְבַר־ יְהוָ֛ה עַל־ הַגּוֹיִֽם׃ אֲשֶׁ֨ר הָיָ֧ה אֶל־ יִרְמְיָ֥הוּ הַנָּבִ֖יא ḏə·ḇar- Yah·weh ‘al- hag·gō·w·yim ’ă·šer hā·yāh ’el- yir·mə·yā·hū han·nā·ḇîWLC · 1

concerning Egypt [and] the army of Pharaoh Neco king of Egypt, which… was defeated at Carchemish on the Euphrates River by Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah:

𐤏𐤋 𐤋𐤌𐤑𐤓𐤉𐤌 𐤇𐤉𐤋 𐤐𐤓𐤏𐤄 𐤍𐤊𐤅 𐤌𐤋𐤊 𐤌𐤑𐤓𐤉𐤌 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤄𐤉𐤄 𐤏𐤋 𐤄𐤊𐤄 𐤁𐤊𐤓𐤊𐤌𐤔 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤐𐤓𐤕 𐤍𐤄𐤓 𐤍𐤁𐤅𐤊𐤃𐤓𐤀𐤑𐤓 𐤌𐤋𐤊 𐤁𐤁𐤋 𐤄𐤓𐤁𐤉𐤏𐤉𐤕 𐤁𐤔𐤍𐤕 𐤋𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤉𐤌 𐤁𐤍 𐤉𐤀𐤔𐤉𐤄𐤅 𐤌𐤋𐤊 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤃𐤄

עַל־ לְמִצְרַ֗יִם חֵ֨יל פַּרְעֹ֤ה נְכוֹ֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ מִצְרַ֔יִם אֲשֶׁר־ הָיָ֥ה עַל־ הִכָּ֗ה בְּכַרְכְּמִ֑שׁ אֲשֶׁ֣ר פְּרָ֖ת נְהַר־ נְבֽוּכַדְרֶאצַּר֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ בָּבֶ֔ל הָֽרְבִיעִ֔ית בִּשְׁנַת֙ לִיהוֹיָקִ֥ים בֶּן־ יֹאשִׁיָּ֖הוּ מֶ֥לֶךְ יְהוּדָֽה׃ ‘al- lə·miṣ·ra·yim ḥêl par·‘ōh nə·ḵōw me·leḵ miṣ·ra·yim ’ă·šer- hā·yāh ‘al- hik·kāh bə·ḵar·kə·miš ’ă·šer pə·rāṯ nə·har- nə·ḇū·ḵaḏ·reṣ·ṣar me·leḵ bā·ḇel hā·rə·ḇî·‘îṯ biš·naṯ lî·hō·w·yā·qîm ben- yō·šî·yā·hū me·leḵ yə·hū·ḏāhWLC · 2

“Deploy your shields, small and large; advance for battle!

𐤏𐤓𐤊𐤅 𐤌𐤂𐤍 𐤅𐤑𐤍𐤄 𐤅𐤂𐤔𐤅 𐤋𐤌𐤋𐤇𐤌𐤄

עִרְכ֤וּ מָגֵן֙ וְצִנָּ֔ה וּגְשׁ֖וּ לַמִּלְחָמָֽה׃ ‘ir·ḵū mā·ḡên wə·ṣin·nāh ū·ḡə·šū lam·mil·ḥā·māhWLC · 3

Harness the horses; mount the steeds; take your positions with helmets on! Polish your spears; put on armor!

𐤀𐤎𐤓𐤅 𐤄𐤎𐤅𐤎𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤏𐤋𐤅 𐤄𐤐𐤓𐤔𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤄𐤕𐤉𐤑𐤁𐤅 𐤁𐤊𐤅𐤁𐤏𐤉𐤌 𐤌𐤓𐤒𐤅 𐤄𐤓𐤌𐤇𐤉𐤌 𐤋𐤁𐤔𐤅 𐤄𐤎𐤓𐤉𐤍𐤕

אִסְר֣וּ הַסּוּסִ֗ים וַֽעֲלוּ֙ הַפָּ֣רָשִׁ֔ים וְהִֽתְיַצְּב֖וּ בְּכ֥וֹבָעִ֑ים מִרְקוּ֙ הָֽרְמָחִ֔ים לִבְשׁ֖וּ הַסִּרְיֹנֹֽת׃ ’is·rū has·sū·sîm wa·‘ă·lū hap·pā·rā·šîm wə·hiṯ·yaṣ·ṣə·ḇū bə·ḵō·w·ḇā·‘îm mir·qū hā·rə·mā·ḥîm liḇ·šū has·sir·yō·nōṯWLC · 4

Why am I seeing this? They are terrified, they are retreating…; their warriors are defeated, they flee in haste without looking back; terror is on every side!” declares the LORD.

𐤌𐤃𐤅𐤏 𐤓𐤀𐤉𐤕𐤉 𐤄𐤌𐤄 𐤇𐤕𐤉𐤌 𐤍𐤎𐤂𐤉𐤌 𐤀𐤇𐤅𐤓 𐤅𐤂𐤁𐤅𐤓𐤉𐤄𐤌 𐤉𐤊𐤕𐤅 𐤅𐤌𐤍𐤅𐤎 𐤍𐤎𐤅 𐤅𐤋𐤀 𐤄𐤐𐤍𐤅 𐤌𐤂𐤅𐤓 𐤌𐤎𐤁𐤉𐤁 𐤍𐤀𐤌 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄

מַדּ֣וּעַ רָאִ֗יתִי הֵ֣מָּה חַתִּים֮ נְסֹגִ֣ים אָחוֹר֒ וְגִבּוֹרֵיהֶ֣ם יֻכַּ֔תּוּ וּמָנ֥וֹס נָ֖סוּ וְלֹ֣א הִפְנ֑וּ מָג֥וֹר מִסָּבִ֖יב נְאֻם־ יְהוָֽה׃ mad·dū·a‘ rā·’î·ṯî hêm·māh ḥat·tîm nə·sō·ḡîm ’ā·ḥō·wr wə·ḡib·bō·w·rê·hem yuk·kat·tū ū·mā·nō·ws nā·sū wə·lō hip̄·nū mā·ḡō·wr mis·sā·ḇîḇ nə·’um- Yah·wehWLC · 5

“The swift cannot flee, and the warrior cannot escape! In the north by… the River Euphrates they stumble and fall.

𐤄𐤒𐤋 𐤀𐤋 𐤉𐤍𐤅𐤎 𐤄𐤂𐤁𐤅𐤓 𐤅𐤀𐤋 𐤉𐤌𐤋𐤈 𐤑𐤐𐤅𐤍𐤄 𐤏𐤋 𐤉𐤃 𐤍𐤄𐤓 𐤐𐤓𐤕 𐤊𐤔𐤋𐤅 𐤅𐤍𐤐𐤋𐤅

הַקַּ֔ל אַל־ יָנ֣וּס הַגִּבּ֑וֹר וְאַל־ יִמָּלֵ֖ט צָפ֙וֹנָה֙ עַל־ יַ֣ד נְהַר־ פְּרָ֔ת כָּשְׁל֖וּ וְנָפָֽלוּ׃ haq·qal ’al- yā·nūs hag·gib·bō·wr wə·’al- yim·mā·lêṭ ṣā·p̄ō·w·nāh ‘al- yaḏ nə·har- pə·rāṯ kā·šə·lū wə·nā·p̄ā·lūWLC · 6

Who is this, rising like the Nile, like rivers whose waters churn?

𐤌𐤉 𐤆𐤄 𐤉𐤏𐤋𐤄 𐤊𐤉𐤀𐤓 𐤊𐤍𐤄𐤓𐤅𐤕 𐤌𐤉𐤌𐤉𐤅 𐤉𐤕𐤂𐤏𐤔𐤅

מִי־ זֶ֖ה יַֽעֲלֶ֑ה כַּיְאֹ֣ר כַּנְּהָר֕וֹת מֵימָֽיו׃ יִֽתְגָּעֲשׁ֖וּ mî- zeh ya·‘ă·leh kay·’ōr kan·nə·hā·rō·wṯ mê·māw yiṯ·gā·‘ă·šūWLC · 7

Egypt rises like the Nile, and its waters churn like rivers, boasting, ‘I will rise and cover the earth; I will destroy the cities and their people.’

𐤌𐤑𐤓𐤉𐤌 𐤉𐤏𐤋𐤄 𐤊𐤉𐤀𐤓 𐤌𐤉𐤌 𐤉𐤕𐤂𐤏𐤔𐤅 𐤅𐤊𐤍𐤄𐤓𐤅𐤕 𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤀𐤏𐤋𐤄 𐤀𐤊𐤎𐤄 𐤀𐤓𐤑 𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤃𐤄 𐤏𐤉𐤓 𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤁𐤉 𐤁𐤄

מִצְרַ֙יִם֙ יַֽעֲלֶ֔ה כַּיְאֹ֣ר מָ֑יִם יִתְגֹּ֣עֲשׁוּ וְכַנְּהָר֖וֹת וַיֹּ֗אמֶר אַֽעֲלֶה֙ אֲכַסֶּה־ אֶ֔רֶץ אֹבִ֥ידָה עִ֖יר וְיֹ֥שְׁבֵי בָֽהּ׃ miṣ·ra·yim ya·‘ă·leh kay·’ōr mā·yim yiṯ·gō·‘ă·šū wə·ḵan·nə·hā·rō·wṯ way·yō·mer ’a·‘ă·leh ’ă·ḵas·seh- ’e·reṣ ’ō·ḇî·ḏāh ‘îr wə·yō·šə·ḇê ḇāhWLC · 8

Advance, O horses! Race furiously, O chariots! Let the warriors come forth— Cush and Put carrying their shields, men of Lydia vvv drawing the bow.

𐤏𐤋𐤅 𐤄𐤎𐤅𐤎𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤄𐤕𐤄𐤋𐤋𐤅 𐤄𐤓𐤊𐤁 𐤄𐤂𐤁𐤅𐤓𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤉𐤑𐤀𐤅 𐤊𐤅𐤔 𐤅𐤐𐤅𐤈 𐤕𐤐𐤔𐤉 𐤌𐤂𐤍 𐤅𐤋𐤅𐤃𐤉𐤌 𐤕𐤐𐤔𐤉 𐤃𐤓𐤊𐤉 𐤒𐤔𐤕

עֲל֤וּ הַסּוּסִים֙ וְהִתְהֹלְל֣וּ הָרֶ֔כֶב הַגִּבּוֹרִ֑ים וְיֵצְא֖וּ כּ֤וּשׁ וּפוּט֙ תֹּפְשֵׂ֣י מָגֵ֔ן וְלוּדִ֕ים תֹּפְשֵׂ֖י דֹּ֥רְכֵי קָֽשֶׁת׃ ‘ă·lū has·sū·sîm wə·hiṯ·hō·lə·lū hā·re·ḵeḇ hag·gib·bō·w·rîm wə·yê·ṣə·’ū kūš ū·p̄ūṭ tō·p̄ə·śê mā·ḡên wə·lū·ḏîm tō·p̄ə·śê dō·rə·ḵê qā·šeṯWLC · 9

For that day [belongs] to the Lord GOD of Hosts, a day of vengeance against His foes. The sword will devour until it is satisfied, until it is quenched with their blood. For the Lord GOD of Hosts will hold a sacrifice in the land of the north by the River Euphrates.

𐤄𐤄𐤅𐤀 𐤅𐤄𐤉𐤅𐤌 𐤋𐤀𐤃𐤍𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤑𐤁𐤀𐤅𐤕 𐤉𐤅𐤌 𐤍𐤒𐤌𐤄 𐤋𐤄𐤍𐤒𐤌 𐤌𐤑𐤓𐤉𐤅 𐤇𐤓𐤁 𐤅𐤀𐤊𐤋𐤄 𐤅𐤔𐤁𐤏𐤄 𐤅𐤓𐤅𐤕𐤄 𐤌𐤃𐤌𐤌 𐤊𐤉 𐤋𐤀𐤃𐤍𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤑𐤁𐤀𐤅𐤕 𐤆𐤁𐤇 𐤁𐤀𐤓𐤑 𐤑𐤐𐤅𐤍 𐤀𐤋 𐤍𐤄𐤓 𐤐𐤓𐤕

הַה֜וּא וְֽהַיּ֨וֹם לַאדֹנָ֧י יְהוִ֣ה צְבָא֗וֹת י֤וֹם נְקָמָה֙ לְהִנָּקֵ֣ם מִצָּרָ֔יו חֶ֙רֶב֙ וְאָכְלָ֥ה וְשָׂ֣בְעָ֔ה וְרָוְתָ֖ה מִדָּמָ֑ם כִּ֣י לַאדֹנָ֨י יְהוִ֧ה צְבָא֛וֹת זֶ֠בַח בְּאֶ֥רֶץ צָפ֖וֹן אֶל־ נְהַר־ פְּרָֽת׃ ha·hū wə·hay·yō·wm la·ḏō·nāy Yah·weh ṣə·ḇā·’ō·wṯ yō·wm nə·qā·māh lə·hin·nā·qêm miṣ·ṣā·rāw ḥe·reḇ wə·’ā·ḵə·lāh wə·śā·ḇə·‘āh wə·rā·wə·ṯāh mid·dā·mām kî la·ḏō·nāy Yah·weh ṣə·ḇā·’ō·wṯ ze·ḇaḥ bə·’e·reṣ ṣā·p̄ō·wn ’el- nə·har- pə·rāṯWLC · 10

Go up to Gilead [for] balm, O Virgin Daughter of Egypt! In vain you try many remedies, [but] for you there is no healing.

𐤏𐤋𐤉 𐤂𐤋𐤏𐤃 𐤅𐤒𐤇𐤉 𐤑𐤓𐤉 𐤁𐤕𐤅𐤋𐤕 𐤁𐤕 𐤌𐤑𐤓𐤉𐤌 𐤋𐤔𐤅𐤀 𐤄𐤓𐤁𐤉𐤕𐤉 𐤓𐤐𐤀𐤅𐤕 𐤋𐤊 𐤀𐤉𐤍 𐤕𐤏𐤋𐤄

עֲלִ֤י גִלְעָד֙ וּקְחִ֣י צֳרִ֔י בְּתוּלַ֖ת בַּת־ מִצְרָ֑יִם לַשָּׁוְא֙ הִרְבֵּיתִי רְפֻא֔וֹת לָֽךְ׃ אֵ֥ין תְּעָלָ֖ה ‘ă·lî ḡil·‘āḏ ū·qə·ḥî ṣo·rî bə·ṯū·laṯ baṯ- miṣ·rā·yim laš·šāw hir·bē·ṯī rə·p̄u·’ō·wṯ lāḵ ’ên tə·‘ā·lāhWLC · 11

The nations have heard of your shame, and your outcry fills the earth, because warrior stumbles over warrior and both of them have fallen together.”

𐤂𐤅𐤉𐤌 𐤔𐤌𐤏𐤅 𐤒𐤋𐤅𐤍𐤊 𐤅𐤑𐤅𐤇𐤕𐤊 𐤌𐤋𐤀𐤄 𐤄𐤀𐤓𐤑 𐤊𐤉 𐤂𐤁𐤅𐤓 𐤊𐤔𐤋𐤅 𐤁𐤂𐤁𐤅𐤓 𐤔𐤍𐤉𐤄𐤌𐤐 𐤍𐤐𐤋𐤅 𐤉𐤇𐤃𐤉𐤅

גוֹיִם֙ שָׁמְע֤וּ קְלוֹנֵ֔ךְ וְצִוְחָתֵ֖ךְ מָלְאָ֣ה הָאָ֑רֶץ כִּֽי־ גִבּ֤וֹר כָּשָׁ֔לוּ בְּגִבּוֹר֙ שְׁנֵיהֶֽם׃פ נָפְל֥וּ יַחְדָּ֖יו ḡō·w·yim šā·mə·‘ū qə·lō·w·nêḵ wə·ṣiw·ḥā·ṯêḵ mā·lə·’āh hā·’ā·reṣ kî- ḡib·bō·wr kā·šā·lū bə·ḡib·bō·wr šə·nê·hem nā·p̄ə·lū yaḥ·dāwWLC · 12

This is the word that the LORD spoke to Jeremiah the prophet about the coming of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to strike the land of Egypt:

𐤄𐤃𐤁𐤓 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤃𐤁𐤓 𐤀𐤋 𐤉𐤓𐤌𐤉𐤄𐤅 𐤄𐤍𐤁𐤉𐤀 𐤋𐤁𐤅𐤀 𐤍𐤁𐤅𐤊𐤃𐤓𐤀𐤑𐤓 𐤌𐤋𐤊 𐤁𐤁𐤋 𐤋𐤄𐤊𐤅𐤕 𐤀𐤕 𐤀𐤓𐤑 𐤌𐤑𐤓𐤉𐤌

הַדָּבָר֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה דִּבֶּ֣ר אֶֽל־ יִרְמְיָ֖הוּ הַנָּבִ֑יא לָב֗וֹא נְבֽוּכַדְרֶאצַּר֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ בָּבֶ֔ל לְהַכּ֖וֹת אֶת־ אֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרָֽיִם׃ had·dā·ḇār ’ă·šer Yah·weh dib·ber ’el- yir·mə·yā·hū han·nā·ḇî lā·ḇō·w nə·ḇū·ḵaḏ·reṣ·ṣar me·leḵ bā·ḇel lə·hak·kō·wṯ ’eṯ- ’e·reṣ miṣ·rā·yimWLC · 13

“Announce it in Egypt, and proclaim it in Migdol; proclaim it in Memphis and Tahpanhes -: ‘Take your positions and prepare yourself, for the sword devours those around you.’

הַגִּ֤ידוּ בְמִצְרַ֙יִם֙ וְהַשְׁמִ֣יעוּ בְמִגְדּ֔וֹל וְהַשְׁמִ֥יעוּ בְנֹ֖ף וּבְתַחְפַּנְחֵ֑ס אִמְר֗וּ הִתְיַצֵּב֙ וְהָכֵ֣ן לָ֔ךְ כִּֽי־ חֶ֖רֶב אָכְלָ֥ה סְבִיבֶֽיךָ׃ hag·gî·ḏū ḇə·miṣ·ra·yim wə·haš·mî·‘ū ḇə·miḡ·dō·wl wə·haš·mî·‘ū ḇə·nōp̄ ū·ḇə·ṯaḥ·pan·ḥês ’im·rū hiṯ·yaṣ·ṣêḇ wə·hā·ḵên lāḵ kî- ḥe·reḇ ’ā·ḵə·lāh sə·ḇî·ḇe·ḵāWLC · 14

Why have your warriors been laid low? They cannot stand, for the LORD has thrust them down.

𐤌𐤃𐤅𐤏 𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤓𐤉𐤊 𐤍𐤎𐤇𐤐 𐤋𐤀 𐤏𐤌𐤃 𐤊𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤄𐤃𐤐𐤅

מַדּ֖וּעַ אַבִּירֶ֑יךָ נִסְחַ֣ף לֹ֣א עָמַ֔ד כִּ֥י יְהוָ֖ה הֲדָפֽוֹ׃ mad·dū·a‘ ’ab·bî·re·ḵā nis·ḥap̄ lō ‘ā·maḏ kî Yah·weh hă·ḏā·p̄ōwWLC · 15

They continue to stumble; indeed, [they] have fallen over one another. They say, ‘Get up! Let us return to our people and to the land of our birth, away from the sword of the oppressor.’

𐤄𐤓𐤁𐤄 𐤊𐤅𐤔𐤋 𐤂𐤌 𐤀𐤉𐤔 𐤍𐤐𐤋 𐤀𐤋 𐤓𐤏𐤄𐤅 𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓𐤅 𐤒𐤅𐤌𐤄 𐤅𐤍𐤔𐤁𐤄 𐤀𐤋 𐤏𐤌𐤍𐤅 𐤅𐤀𐤋 𐤀𐤓𐤑 𐤌𐤅𐤋𐤃𐤕𐤍𐤅 𐤌𐤐𐤍𐤉 𐤇𐤓𐤁 𐤄𐤉𐤅𐤍𐤄

הִרְבָּ֖ה כּוֹשֵׁ֑ל גַּם־ אִ֣ישׁ נָפַ֞ל אֶל־ רֵעֵ֗הוּ וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙ ק֣וּמָה׀ וְנָשֻׁ֣בָה אֶל־ עַמֵּ֗נוּ וְאֶל־ אֶ֙רֶץ֙ מֽוֹלַדְתֵּ֔נוּ מִפְּנֵ֖י חֶ֥רֶב הַיּוֹנָֽה׃ hir·bāh kō·wō·šêl gam- ’îš nā·p̄al ’el- rê·‘ê·hū way·yō·mə·rū qū·māh wə·nā·šu·ḇāh ’el- ‘am·mê·nū wə·’el- ’e·reṣ mō·w·laḏ·tê·nū mip·pə·nê ḥe·reḇ hay·yō·w·nāhWLC · 16

There they will cry out: ‘Pharaoh king of Egypt was all noise; he has let the appointed time pass him by.’

𐤔𐤌 𐤒𐤓𐤀𐤅 𐤐𐤓𐤏𐤄 𐤌𐤋𐤊 𐤌𐤑𐤓𐤉𐤌 𐤔𐤀𐤅𐤍 𐤄𐤌𐤅𐤏𐤃 𐤄𐤏𐤁𐤉𐤓

שָׁ֑ם קָרְא֖וּ פַּרְעֹ֤ה מֶֽלֶךְ־ מִצְרַ֙יִם֙ שָׁא֔וֹן הַמּוֹעֵֽד׃ הֶעֱבִ֖יר šām qā·rə·’ū par·‘ōh me·leḵ- miṣ·ra·yim šā·’ō·wn ham·mō·w·‘êḏ he·‘ĕ·ḇîrWLC · 17

As surely as I live, declares the King, whose name is the LORD of Hosts, [there] will come one [who is] like Tabor among the mountains and like Carmel by the sea.

𐤀𐤍𐤉 𐤇𐤉 𐤍𐤀𐤌 𐤄𐤌𐤋𐤊 𐤔𐤌𐤅 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤑𐤁𐤀𐤅𐤕 𐤊𐤉 𐤉𐤁𐤅𐤀 𐤊𐤕𐤁𐤅𐤓 𐤁𐤄𐤓𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤊𐤊𐤓𐤌𐤋 𐤁𐤉𐤌

Even the mercenaries among her are like fattened calves. They too will turn back; together they will flee, they will not stand their ground, for the day of calamity is coming upon them— the time of their punishment.

Egypt will hiss like a fleeing serpent, for the enemy will advance in force; with axes they will come against her like woodsmen cutting down trees…

They will chop down her forest, declares the LORD, dense though it may be, for they are more numerous than locusts; they cannot… be counted.

The LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: “Behold, I am about to punish… Amon [god] of Thebes,… along with Pharaoh, Egypt with her gods… and kings…,… and those who trust in Pharaoh

I will deliver them into the hands of those who seek their lives…— of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon… and his officers. But after this, [Egypt] will be inhabited as in days of old, declares the LORD.

But you, O Jacob My servant, do not be afraid, and do not be dismayed, O Israel. For vvv I will surely save you out of a distant place, your descendants from the land of their captivity! Jacob will return to quiet and ease, with no one to make him afraid.

וְ֠אַתָּה יַֽעֲקֹב֙ עַבְדִּ֤י אַל־ תִּירָ֞א וְאַל־ תֵּחַ֣ת יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל כִּ֠י הִנְנִ֤י מוֹשִֽׁעֲךָ֙ מֵֽרָח֔וֹק וְאֶֽת־ זַרְעֲךָ֖ מֵאֶ֣רֶץ שִׁבְיָ֑ם יַעֲק֛וֹב וְשָׁ֧ב וְשָׁקַ֥ט וְשַׁאֲנַ֖ן וְאֵ֥ין מַחֲרִֽיד׃ס wə·’at·tāh ya·‘ă·qōḇ ‘aḇ·dî ’al- tî·rā wə·’al- tê·ḥaṯ yiś·rā·’êl kî hin·nî mō·wō·ši·‘ă·ḵā mê·rā·ḥō·wq wə·’eṯ- zar·‘ă·ḵā mê·’e·reṣ šiḇ·yām ya·‘ă·qō·wḇ wə·šāḇ wə·šā·qaṭ wə·ša·’ă·nan wə·’ên ma·ḥă·rîḏWLC · 27

And you, My servant Jacob, do not be afraid, declares the LORD, for I am with you. Though I will completely destroy all the nations to which I have banished you… -, I will not completely destroy you… Yet I will discipline you justly, and will by no means leave you unpunished…”
