Chapter 61

The Year of the LORD’s Favor

1

The Spirit of the Lord GOD is on Me, because the LORD has anointed Me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent Me to bind up the brokenhearted…, to proclaim liberty to the captives vvv and freedom to the prisoners,

𐤓𐤅𐤇 𐤀𐤃𐤍𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤏𐤋𐤉 𐤉𐤏𐤍 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤕𐤉 𐤌𐤔𐤇 𐤋𐤁𐤔𐤓 𐤏𐤍𐤅𐤉𐤌 𐤔𐤋𐤇𐤍𐤉 𐤋𐤇𐤁𐤔 𐤋𐤍𐤔𐤁𐤓𐤉 𐤋𐤁 𐤋𐤒𐤓𐤀 𐤃𐤓𐤅𐤓 𐤋𐤔𐤁𐤅𐤉𐤌 𐤐𐤒𐤇 𐤒𐤅𐤇 𐤅𐤋𐤀𐤎𐤅𐤓𐤉𐤌

ר֛וּחַ אֲדֹנָ֥י יְהוִ֖ה עָלָ֑י יַ֡עַן יְהוָ֨ה אֹתִ֜י מָשַׁח֩ לְבַשֵּׂ֣ר עֲנָוִ֗ים שְׁלָחַ֙נִי֙ לַחֲבֹ֣שׁ לְנִשְׁבְּרֵי־ לֵ֔ב לִקְרֹ֤א דְּר֔וֹר לִשְׁבוּיִם֙ פְּקַח־ קֽוֹחַ׃ וְלַאֲסוּרִ֖ים rū·aḥ ’ă·ḏō·nāy Yah·weh ‘ā·lāy ya·‘an Yah·weh ’ō·ṯî mā·šaḥ lə·ḇaś·śêr ‘ă·nā·wîm šə·lā·ḥa·nî la·ḥă·ḇōš lə·niš·bə·rê- lêḇ liq·rō də·rō·wr liš·ḇū·yim pə·qaḥ- qō·w·aḥ wə·la·’ă·sū·rîmWLC · 1

to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor and the day of our God’s vengeance, to comfort all who mourn,

𐤋𐤒𐤓𐤀 𐤔𐤍𐤕 𐤋𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤓𐤑𐤅𐤍 𐤅𐤉𐤅𐤌 𐤋𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤍𐤅 𐤍𐤒𐤌 𐤋𐤍𐤇𐤌 𐤊𐤋 𐤀𐤁𐤋𐤉𐤌

לִקְרֹ֤א שְׁנַת־ לַֽיהוָ֔ה רָצוֹן֙ וְי֥וֹם לֵאלֹהֵ֑ינוּ נָקָ֖ם לְנַחֵ֖ם כָּל־ אֲבֵלִֽים׃ liq·rō šə·naṯ- Yah·weh rā·ṣō·wn wə·yō·wm lê·lō·hê·nū nā·qām lə·na·ḥêm kāl- ’ă·ḇê·lîmWLC · 2

to console the mourners in Zion— to give them a crown of beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, and a garment of praise for a spirit of despair. So they will be called… oaks of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.

𐤋𐤔𐤅𐤌 𐤋𐤀𐤁𐤋𐤉 𐤑𐤉𐤅𐤍 𐤋𐤕𐤕 𐤋𐤄𐤌 𐤐𐤀𐤓 𐤕𐤇𐤕 𐤀𐤐𐤓 𐤔𐤌𐤍 𐤔𐤔𐤅𐤍 𐤕𐤇𐤕 𐤀𐤁𐤋 𐤌𐤏𐤈𐤄 𐤕𐤄𐤋𐤄 𐤕𐤇𐤕 𐤓𐤅𐤇 𐤊𐤄𐤄 𐤅𐤒𐤓𐤀 𐤋𐤄𐤌 𐤀𐤉𐤋𐤉 𐤄𐤑𐤃𐤒 𐤌𐤈𐤏 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤋𐤄𐤕𐤐𐤀𐤓

לָשׂ֣וּם׀ לַאֲבֵלֵ֣י צִיּ֗וֹן לָתֵת֩ לָהֶ֨ם פְּאֵ֜ר תַּ֣חַת אֵ֗פֶר שֶׁ֤מֶן שָׂשׂוֹן֙ תַּ֣חַת אֵ֔בֶל מַעֲטֵ֣ה תְהִלָּ֔ה תַּ֖חַת ר֣וּחַ כֵּהָ֑ה וְקֹרָ֤א לָהֶם֙ אֵילֵ֣י הַצֶּ֔דֶק מַטַּ֥ע יְהוָ֖ה לְהִתְפָּאֵֽר׃ lā·śūm la·’ă·ḇê·lê ṣî·yō·wn lā·ṯêṯ lā·hem pə·’êr ta·ḥaṯ ’ê·p̄er še·men śā·śō·wn ta·ḥaṯ ’ê·ḇel ma·‘ă·ṭêh ṯə·hil·lāh ta·ḥaṯ rū·aḥ kê·hāh wə·qō·rā lā·hem ’ê·lê haṣ·ṣe·ḏeq maṭ·ṭa‘ Yah·weh lə·hiṯ·pā·’êrWLC · 3

They will rebuild the ancient ruins; they will restore the places long devastated; they will renew the ruined cities, the desolations of many generations.

𐤅𐤁𐤍𐤅 𐤏𐤅𐤋𐤌 𐤇𐤓𐤁𐤅𐤕 𐤉𐤒𐤅𐤌𐤌𐤅 𐤓𐤀𐤔𐤍𐤉𐤌 𐤔𐤌𐤌𐤅𐤕 𐤅𐤇𐤃𐤔𐤅 𐤇𐤓𐤁 𐤏𐤓𐤉 𐤔𐤌𐤌𐤅𐤕 𐤃𐤅𐤓 𐤅𐤃𐤅𐤓

וּבָנוּ֙ עוֹלָ֔ם חָרְב֣וֹת יְקוֹמֵ֑מוּ רִֽאשֹׁנִ֖ים שֹׁמְמ֥וֹת וְחִדְּשׁוּ֙ חֹ֔רֶב עָ֣רֵי שֹׁמְמ֖וֹת דּ֥וֹר וָדֽוֹר׃ ū·ḇā·nū ‘ō·w·lām ḥā·rə·ḇō·wṯ yə·qō·w·mê·mū ri·šō·nîm šō·mə·mō·wṯ wə·ḥid·də·šū ḥō·reḇ ‘ā·rê šō·mə·mō·wṯ dō·wr wā·ḏō·wrWLC · 4

Strangers will stand and feed your flocks, and foreigners… will be your plowmen and vinedressers.

𐤆𐤓𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤏𐤌𐤃𐤅 𐤅𐤓𐤏𐤅 𐤑𐤀𐤍𐤊𐤌 𐤅𐤁𐤍𐤉 𐤍𐤊𐤓 𐤀𐤊𐤓𐤉𐤊𐤌 𐤅𐤊𐤓𐤌𐤉𐤊𐤌

זָרִ֔ים וְעָמְד֣וּ וְרָע֖וּ צֹאנְכֶ֑ם וּבְנֵ֣י נֵכָ֔ר אִכָּרֵיכֶ֖ם וְכֹרְמֵיכֶֽם׃ zā·rîm wə·‘ā·mə·ḏū wə·rā·‘ū ṣō·nə·ḵem ū·ḇə·nê nê·ḵār ’ik·kā·rê·ḵem wə·ḵō·rə·mê·ḵemWLC · 5

But you will be called the priests of the LORD; they will speak of you as ministers of our God; you will feed on the wealth of nations, and you will boast in their riches.

𐤅𐤀𐤕𐤌 𐤕𐤒𐤓𐤀𐤅 𐤊𐤄𐤍𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤋𐤊𐤌 𐤌𐤔𐤓𐤕𐤉 𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤍𐤅 𐤕𐤀𐤊𐤋𐤅 𐤇𐤉𐤋 𐤂𐤅𐤉𐤌 𐤕𐤕𐤉𐤌𐤓𐤅 𐤅𐤁𐤊𐤁𐤅𐤃𐤌

וְאַתֶּ֗ם תִּקָּרֵ֔אוּ כֹּהֲנֵ֤י יְהוָה֙ יֵאָמֵ֖ר לָכֶ֑ם מְשָׁרְתֵ֣י אֱלֹהֵ֔ינוּ תֹּאכֵ֔לוּ חֵ֤יל גּוֹיִם֙ תִּתְיַמָּֽרוּ׃ וּבִכְבוֹדָ֖ם wə·’at·tem tiq·qā·rê·’ū kō·hă·nê Yah·weh yê·’ā·mêr lā·ḵem mə·šā·rə·ṯê ’ĕ·lō·hê·nū tō·ḵê·lū ḥêl gō·w·yim tiṯ·yam·mā·rū ū·ḇiḵ·ḇō·w·ḏāmWLC · 6

Instead of shame, [My people will have a] double portion, and [instead of] humiliation, they will rejoice in their share; and so they will inherit a double portion in their land, and everlasting joy will be theirs.

𐤕𐤇𐤕 𐤁𐤔𐤕𐤊𐤌 𐤌𐤔𐤍𐤄 𐤅𐤊𐤋𐤌𐤄 𐤉𐤓𐤍𐤅 𐤇𐤋𐤒𐤌 𐤋𐤊𐤍 𐤉𐤉𐤓𐤔𐤅 𐤌𐤔𐤍𐤄 𐤁𐤀𐤓𐤑𐤌 𐤏𐤅𐤋𐤌 𐤔𐤌𐤇𐤕 𐤕𐤄𐤉𐤄 𐤋𐤄𐤌

תַּ֤חַת בָּשְׁתְּכֶם֙ מִשְׁנֶ֔ה וּכְלִמָּ֖ה יָרֹ֣נּוּ חֶלְקָ֑ם לָכֵ֤ן יִירָ֔שׁוּ מִשְׁנֶ֣ה בְּאַרְצָם֙ עוֹלָ֖ם שִׂמְחַ֥ת תִּֽהְיֶ֥ה לָהֶֽם׃ ta·ḥaṯ bā·šə·tə·ḵem miš·neh ū·ḵə·lim·māh yā·rōn·nū ḥel·qām lā·ḵên yî·rā·šū miš·neh bə·’ar·ṣām ‘ō·w·lām śim·ḥaṯ tih·yeh lā·hemWLC · 7

For I, the LORD, love justice; I hate robbery and iniquity; in My faithfulness I will give them their recompense and make an everlasting covenant with them.

𐤊𐤉 𐤀𐤍𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤄𐤁 𐤌𐤔𐤐𐤈 𐤔𐤍𐤀 𐤂𐤆𐤋 𐤁𐤏𐤅𐤋𐤄 𐤁𐤀𐤌𐤕 𐤅𐤍𐤕𐤕𐤉 𐤐𐤏𐤋𐤕𐤌 𐤀𐤊𐤓𐤅𐤕 𐤏𐤅𐤋𐤌 𐤅𐤁𐤓𐤉𐤕 𐤋𐤄𐤌

כִּ֣י אֲנִ֤י יְהוָה֙ אֹהֵ֣ב מִשְׁפָּ֔ט שֹׂנֵ֥א גָזֵ֖ל בְּעוֹלָ֑ה בֶּאֱמֶ֔ת וְנָתַתִּ֤י פְעֻלָּתָם֙ אֶכְר֥וֹת עוֹלָ֖ם וּבְרִ֥ית לָהֶֽם׃ kî ’ă·nî Yah·weh ’ō·hêḇ miš·pāṭ śō·nê ḡā·zêl bə·‘ō·w·lāh be·’ĕ·meṯ wə·nā·ṯat·tî p̄ə·‘ul·lā·ṯām ’eḵ·rō·wṯ ‘ō·w·lām ū·ḇə·rîṯ lā·hemWLC · 8

Their descendants will be known among the nations, and their offspring among the peoples. All who see them will acknowledge that they are a people the LORD has blessed.

𐤆𐤓𐤏𐤌 𐤅𐤍𐤅𐤃𐤏 𐤁𐤂𐤅𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤑𐤀𐤑𐤀𐤉𐤄𐤌 𐤁𐤕𐤅𐤊 𐤄𐤏𐤌𐤉𐤌 𐤊𐤋 𐤓𐤀𐤉𐤄𐤌 𐤉𐤊𐤉𐤓𐤅𐤌 𐤊𐤉 𐤄𐤌 𐤆𐤓𐤏 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄𐤎 𐤁𐤓𐤊

זַרְעָ֔ם וְנוֹדַ֤ע בַּגּוֹיִם֙ וְצֶאֱצָאֵיהֶ֖ם בְּת֣וֹךְ הָעַמִּ֑ים כָּל־ רֹֽאֵיהֶם֙ יַכִּיר֔וּם כִּ֛י הֵ֥ם זֶ֖רַע יְהוָֽה׃ס בֵּרַ֥ךְ zar·‘ām wə·nō·w·ḏa‘ bag·gō·w·yim wə·ṣe·’ĕ·ṣā·’ê·hem bə·ṯō·wḵ hā·‘am·mîm kāl- rō·’ê·hem yak·kî·rūm kî hêm ze·ra‘ Yah·weh bê·raḵWLC · 9

I will rejoice greatly… in the LORD, my soul will exult in my God; for He has clothed me with garments of salvation and wrapped me in a robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom wears a priestly headdress, as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

𐤔𐤅𐤔 𐤀𐤔𐤉𐤔 𐤁𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤍𐤐𐤔𐤉 𐤕𐤂𐤋 𐤁𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉 𐤊𐤉 𐤄𐤋𐤁𐤉𐤔𐤍𐤉 𐤁𐤂𐤃𐤉 𐤉𐤔𐤏 𐤉𐤏𐤈𐤍𐤉 𐤌𐤏𐤉𐤋 𐤑𐤃𐤒𐤄 𐤊𐤇𐤕𐤍 𐤉𐤊𐤄𐤍 𐤐𐤀𐤓 𐤅𐤊𐤊𐤋𐤄 𐤕𐤏𐤃𐤄 𐤊𐤋𐤉𐤄

שׂ֧וֹשׂ אָשִׂ֣ישׂ בַּֽיהוָ֗ה נַפְשִׁי֙ תָּגֵ֤ל בֵּֽאלֹהַ֔י כִּ֤י הִלְבִּישַׁ֙נִי֙ בִּגְדֵי־ יֶ֔שַׁע יְעָטָ֑נִי מְעִ֥יל צְדָקָ֖ה כֶּֽחָתָן֙ יְכַהֵ֣ן פְּאֵ֔ר וְכַכַּלָּ֖ה תַּעְדֶּ֥ה כֵלֶֽיהָ׃ śō·wś ’ā·śîś Yah·weh nap̄·šî tā·ḡêl bê·lō·hay kî hil·bî·ša·nî biḡ·ḏê- ye·ša‘ yə·‘ā·ṭā·nî mə·‘îl ṣə·ḏā·qāh ke·ḥā·ṯān yə·ḵa·hên pə·’êr wə·ḵak·kal·lāh ta‘·deh ḵê·le·hāWLC · 10

For as the earth brings forth its growth, and as a garden enables seed to spring up, so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring up before all the nations.

𐤊𐤉 𐤊𐤀𐤓𐤑 𐤕𐤅𐤑𐤉𐤀 𐤑𐤌𐤇𐤄 𐤅𐤊𐤂𐤍𐤄 𐤆𐤓𐤅𐤏𐤉𐤄 𐤕𐤑𐤌𐤉𐤇 𐤊𐤍 𐤀𐤃𐤍𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤑𐤃𐤒𐤄 𐤅𐤕𐤄𐤋𐤄 𐤉𐤑𐤌𐤉𐤇 𐤍𐤂𐤃 𐤊𐤋 𐤄𐤂𐤅𐤉𐤌

כִּ֤י כָאָ֙רֶץ֙ תּוֹצִ֣יא צִמְחָ֔הּ וּכְגַנָּ֖ה זֵרוּעֶ֣יהָ תַצְמִ֑יחַ כֵּ֣ן׀ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֗ה צְדָקָה֙ וּתְהִלָּ֔ה יַצְמִ֤יחַ נֶ֖גֶד כָּל־ הַגּוֹיִֽם׃ kî ḵā·’ā·reṣ tō·w·ṣî ṣim·ḥāh ū·ḵə·ḡan·nāh zê·rū·‘e·hā ṯaṣ·mî·aḥ kên ’ă·ḏō·nāy Yah·weh ṣə·ḏā·qāh ū·ṯə·hil·lāh yaṣ·mî·aḥ ne·ḡeḏ kāl- hag·gō·w·yimWLC · 11
