Chapter 43
Israel’s Only Savior
1
But now, this is what the LORD says— He who created you, O Jacob, and He who formed you, O Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; you are Mine!
𐤅𐤏𐤕𐤄 𐤊𐤄 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤁𐤓𐤀𐤊 𐤉𐤏𐤒𐤁 𐤅𐤉𐤑𐤓𐤊 𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 𐤀𐤋 𐤕𐤉𐤓𐤀 𐤊𐤉 𐤂𐤀𐤋𐤕𐤉𐤊 𐤒𐤓𐤀𐤕𐤉 𐤁𐤔𐤌𐤊 𐤀𐤕𐤄 𐤋𐤉
וְעַתָּ֞ה כֹּֽה־ יְהוָה֙ אָמַ֤ר בֹּרַאֲךָ֣ יַעֲקֹ֔ב וְיֹצֶרְךָ֖ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל אַל־ תִּירָא֙ כִּ֣י גְאַלְתִּ֔יךָ קָרָ֥אתִי בְשִׁמְךָ֖ אָֽתָּה׃ לִי־ wə·‘at·tāh kōh- Yah·weh ’ā·mar bō·ra·’ă·ḵā ya·‘ă·qōḇ wə·yō·ṣer·ḵā yiś·rā·’êl ’al- tî·rā kî ḡə·’al·tî·ḵā qā·rā·ṯî ḇə·šim·ḵā ’āt·tāh lî- — WLC · 1

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and [when you go through] the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched; the flames will not set you ablaze…

כִּֽי־ תַעֲבֹ֤ר בַּמַּ֙יִם֙ אָ֔נִי אִתְּךָ־ וּבַנְּהָר֖וֹת לֹ֣א יִשְׁטְפ֑וּךָ כִּֽי־ תֵלֵ֤ךְ בְּמוֹ־ אֵשׁ֙ לֹ֣א תִכָּוֶ֔ה וְלֶהָבָ֖ה לֹ֥א תִבְעַר־ בָּֽךְ׃ kî- ṯa·‘ă·ḇōr bam·ma·yim ’ā·nî ’it·tə·ḵā- ū·ḇan·nə·hā·rō·wṯ lō yiš·ṭə·p̄ū·ḵā kî- ṯê·lêḵ bə·mōw- ’êš lō ṯik·kā·weh wə·le·hā·ḇāh lō ṯiḇ·‘ar- bāḵ — WLC · 2

For I [am] the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I give Egypt [for] your ransom, Cush and Seba in your place.
𐤊𐤉 𐤀𐤍𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤊 𐤒𐤃𐤅𐤔 𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 𐤌𐤅𐤔𐤉𐤏𐤊 𐤍𐤕𐤕𐤉 𐤌𐤑𐤓𐤉𐤌 𐤊𐤐𐤓𐤊 𐤊𐤅𐤔 𐤅𐤎𐤁𐤀 𐤕𐤇𐤕𐤉𐤊
כִּ֗י אֲנִי֙ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ קְד֥וֹשׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל מוֹשִׁיעֶ֑ךָ נָתַ֤תִּי מִצְרַ֔יִם כָפְרְךָ֙ כּ֥וּשׁ וּסְבָ֖א תַּחְתֶּֽיךָ׃ kî ’ă·nî Yah·weh ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā qə·ḏō·wōš yiś·rā·’êl mō·wō·šî·‘e·ḵā nā·ṯat·tî miṣ·ra·yim ḵā·p̄ə·rə·ḵā kūš ū·sə·ḇā taḥ·te·ḵā — WLC · 3

Because you are precious and honored in My sight, and [because] I love you, I will give men in exchange for you and nations in place of your life.

מֵאֲשֶׁ֨ר יָקַ֧רְתָּ נִכְבַּ֖דְתָּ בְעֵינַ֛י וַאֲנִ֣י אֲהַבְתִּ֑יךָ וְאֶתֵּ֤ן אָדָם֙ תַּחְתֶּ֔יךָ וּלְאֻמִּ֖ים תַּ֥חַת נַפְשֶֽׁךָ׃ mê·’ă·šer yā·qar·tā niḵ·baḏ·tā ḇə·‘ê·nay wa·’ă·nî ’ă·haḇ·tî·ḵā wə·’et·tên ’ā·ḏām taḥ·te·ḵā ū·lə·’um·mîm ta·ḥaṯ nap̄·še·ḵā — WLC · 4

Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bring your offspring from the east and gather you from the west.

אַל־ תִּירָ֖א כִּ֣י אָ֑נִי אִתְּךָ־ אָבִ֣יא זַרְעֶ֔ךָ מִמִּזְרָח֙ אֲקַבְּצֶֽךָּ׃ וּמִֽמַּעֲרָ֖ב ’al- tî·rā kî ’ā·nî ’it·tə·ḵā- ’ā·ḇî zar·‘e·ḵā mim·miz·rāḥ ’ă·qab·bə·ṣe·kā ū·mim·ma·‘ă·rāḇ — WLC · 5

I will say to the north, ‘Give them up!’ and to the south, ‘Do not hold them back!’ Bring My sons from afar, and My daughters from the ends of the earth—

אֹמַ֤ר לַצָּפוֹן֙ תֵּ֔נִי וּלְתֵימָ֖ן אַל־ תִּכְלָ֑אִי הָבִ֤יאִי בָנַי֙ מֵרָח֔וֹק וּבְנוֹתַ֖י מִקְצֵ֥ה הָאָֽרֶץ׃ ’ō·mar laṣ·ṣā·p̄ō·wn tê·nî ū·lə·ṯê·mān ’al- tiḵ·lā·’î hā·ḇî·’î ḇā·nay mê·rā·ḥō·wq ū·ḇə·nō·w·ṯay miq·ṣêh hā·’ā·reṣ — WLC · 6

everyone called by My name and created for My glory, whom I have indeed formed… [and] made.”

כֹּ֚ל הַנִּקְרָ֣א בִשְׁמִ֔י בְּרָאתִ֑יו וְלִכְבוֹדִ֖י יְצַרְתִּ֖יו אַף־ עֲשִׂיתִֽיו׃ kōl han·niq·rā ḇiš·mî bə·rā·ṯîw wə·liḵ·ḇō·w·ḏî yə·ṣar·tîw ’ap̄- ‘ă·śî·ṯîw — WLC · 7

Bring out a people who have eyes but are blind, and who have ears but are deaf

הוֹצִ֥יא עַם־ יֵ֑שׁ וְעֵינַ֣יִם עִוֵּ֖ר וְאָזְנַ֥יִם וְחֵרְשִׁ֖ים לָֽמוֹ׃ hō·w·ṣî ‘am- yêš wə·‘ê·na·yim ‘iw·wêr wə·’ā·zə·na·yim wə·ḥê·rə·šîm lā·mōw — WLC · 8

All the nations gather together and the peoples assemble. Who among them can declare this, and proclaim to us the former things? Let them present their witnesses to vindicate them, so that others may hear and say, “It is true.”

כָּֽל־ הַגּוֹיִ֞ם נִקְבְּצ֣וּ יַחְדָּ֗ו לְאֻמִּ֔ים וְיֵאָֽסְפוּ֙ מִ֤י בָהֶם֙ יַגִּ֣יד זֹ֔את יַשְׁמִיעֻ֑נוּ וְרִֽאשֹׁנ֖וֹת יִתְּנ֤וּ עֵֽדֵיהֶם֙ וְיִצְדָּ֔קוּ וְיִשְׁמְע֖וּ וְיֹאמְר֥וּ אֱמֶֽת׃ kāl- hag·gō·w·yim niq·bə·ṣū yaḥ·dāw lə·’um·mîm wə·yê·’ā·sə·p̄ū mî ḇā·hem yag·gîḏ zōṯ yaš·mî·‘u·nū wə·ri·šō·nō·wṯ yit·tə·nū ‘ê·ḏê·hem wə·yiṣ·dā·qū wə·yiš·mə·‘ū wə·yō·mə·rū ’ĕ·meṯ — WLC · 9

“You are My witnesses,” declares the LORD, “and My servant whom I have chosen, so that you may consider and believe Me and understand that I am He. Before Me no god was formed, and after Me none will come.

אַתֶּ֤ם עֵדַי֙ נְאֻם־ יְהוָ֔ה וְעַבְדִּ֖י אֲשֶׁ֣ר בָּחָ֑רְתִּי לְמַ֣עַן תֵּ֠דְעוּ וְתַאֲמִ֨ינוּ לִ֤י וְתָבִ֙ינוּ֙ כִּֽי־ אֲנִ֣י ה֔וּא לְפָנַי֙ לֹא־ אֵ֔ל נ֣וֹצַר וְאַחֲרַ֖י לֹ֥א יִהְיֶֽה׃ס ’at·tem ‘ê·ḏay nə·’um- Yah·weh wə·‘aḇ·dî ’ă·šer bā·ḥā·rə·tî lə·ma·‘an tê·ḏə·‘ū wə·ṯa·’ă·mî·nū lî wə·ṯā·ḇî·nū kî- ’ă·nî hū lə·p̄ā·nay lō- ’êl nō·w·ṣar wə·’a·ḥă·ray lō yih·yeh — WLC · 10

I, yes I, am the LORD, and there is no Savior but Me.

אָנֹכִ֥י אָנֹכִ֖י יְהוָ֑ה וְאֵ֥ין מוֹשִֽׁיעַ׃ מִבַּלְעָדַ֖י ’ā·nō·ḵî ’ā·nō·ḵî Yah·weh wə·’ên mō·wō·šî·a‘ mib·bal·‘ā·ḏay — WLC · 11

I alone decreed and saved and proclaimed— [I,] and not some foreign god among you. So you are My witnesses,” declares the LORD, “that I am God.

אָנֹכִ֞י הִגַּ֤דְתִּי וְהוֹשַׁ֙עְתִּי֙ וְהִשְׁמַ֔עְתִּי וְאֵ֥ין זָ֑ר בָּכֶ֖ם וְאַתֶּ֥ם עֵדַ֛י נְאֻם־ יְהוָ֖ה וַֽאֲנִי־ אֵֽל׃ ’ā·nō·ḵî hig·gaḏ·tî wə·hō·wō·ša‘·tî wə·hiš·ma‘·tî wə·’ên zār bā·ḵem wə·’at·tem ‘ê·ḏay nə·’um- Yah·weh wa·’ă·nî- ’êl — WLC · 12

Even from eternity I [am] He, and none can deliver out of My hand. When I act, who can reverse it?”

גַּם־ מִיּוֹם֙ אֲנִ֣י ה֔וּא וְאֵ֥ין מַצִּ֑יל מִיָּדִ֖י אֶפְעַ֖ל וּמִ֥י יְשִׁיבֶֽנָּה׃ס gam- mî·yō·wm ’ă·nî hū wə·’ên maṣ·ṣîl mî·yā·ḏî ’ep̄·‘al ū·mî yə·šî·ḇen·nāh — WLC · 13
A Way in the Wilderness

Thus says the LORD your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “For your sake, I will send to Babylon and bring them all as fugitives, even the Chaldeans, in the ships in which they rejoice.

כֹּֽה־ אָמַ֧ר יְהוָ֛ה גֹּאַלְכֶ֖ם קְד֣וֹשׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל לְמַעַנְכֶ֞ם שִׁלַּ֣חְתִּי בָבֶ֗לָה וְהוֹרַדְתִּ֤י כֻּלָּ֔ם בָֽרִיחִים֙ וְכַשְׂדִּ֖ים בָּאֳנִיּ֥וֹת רִנָּתָֽם׃ kōh- ’ā·mar Yah·weh gō·’al·ḵem qə·ḏō·wōš yiś·rā·’êl lə·ma·‘an·ḵem šil·laḥ·tî ḇā·ḇe·lāh wə·hō·w·raḏ·tî kul·lām ḇā·rî·ḥîm wə·ḵaś·dîm bā·’o·nî·yō·wṯ rin·nā·ṯām — WLC · 14

I am the LORD, your Holy One, the Creator of Israel, [and] your King.”

Thus says the LORD, who makes a way in the sea and a path through the surging waters,
𐤊𐤄 𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤄𐤍𐤅𐤕𐤍 𐤃𐤓𐤊 𐤁𐤉𐤌 𐤍𐤕𐤉𐤁𐤄 𐤏𐤆𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤁𐤌𐤉𐤌
כֹּ֚ה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה הַנּוֹתֵ֥ן דָּ֑רֶךְ בַּיָּ֖ם נְתִיבָֽה׃ עַזִּ֖ים וּבְמַ֥יִם kōh ’ā·mar Yah·weh han·nō·w·ṯên dā·reḵ bay·yām nə·ṯî·ḇāh ‘az·zîm ū·ḇə·ma·yim — WLC · 16

who brings out the chariots and horses, the armies and warriors together, to lie down, never to rise again; to be extinguished, snuffed out like a wick:

הַמּוֹצִ֥יא רֶֽכֶב־ וָס֖וּס חַ֣יִל וְעִזּ֑וּז יַחְדָּ֤ו יִשְׁכְּבוּ֙ בַּל־ יָק֔וּמוּ דָּעֲכ֖וּ כָבֽוּ׃ כַּפִּשְׁתָּ֥ה ham·mō·w·ṣî re·ḵeḇ- wā·sūs ḥa·yil wə·‘iz·zūz yaḥ·dāw yiš·kə·ḇū bal- yā·qū·mū dā·‘ă·ḵū ḵā·ḇū kap·piš·tāh — WLC · 17

“Do not call to mind the former things; pay no attention to the things of old.

אַֽל־ תִּזְכְּר֖וּ רִֽאשֹׁנ֑וֹת אַל־ תִּתְבֹּנָֽנוּ׃ וְקַדְמֹנִיּ֖וֹת ’al- tiz·kə·rū ri·šō·nō·wṯ ’al- tiṯ·bō·nā·nū wə·qaḏ·mō·nî·yō·wṯ — WLC · 18

Behold, I am about to do something new; even now it is coming. Do you not see it? Indeed, I will make a way in the wilderness [and] streams in the desert.

הִנְנִ֨י עֹשֶׂ֤ה חֲדָשָׁה֙ עַתָּ֣ה תִצְמָ֔ח הֲל֖וֹא תֵֽדָע֑וּהָ אַ֣ף אָשִׂ֤ים דֶּ֔רֶךְ בַּמִּדְבָּר֙ נְהָרֽוֹת׃ בִּֽישִׁמ֖וֹן hin·nî ‘ō·śeh ḥă·ḏā·šāh ‘at·tāh ṯiṣ·māḥ hă·lō·w ṯê·ḏā·‘ū·hā ’ap̄ ’ā·śîm de·reḵ bam·miḏ·bār nə·hā·rō·wṯ bî·ši·mō·wn — WLC · 19

The beasts of the field will honor Me, the jackals and the ostriches, because I provide water in the wilderness [and] rivers in the desert, to give drink to My chosen people.
