Chapter 35
The Glory of Zion
1
The wilderness and the dry land will be glad; the desert will rejoice and blossom like a rose.
𐤌𐤃𐤁𐤓 𐤅𐤑𐤉𐤄 𐤉𐤔𐤔𐤅𐤌 𐤏𐤓𐤁𐤄 𐤅𐤕𐤂𐤋 𐤅𐤕𐤐𐤓𐤇 𐤊𐤇𐤁𐤑𐤋𐤕
מִדְבָּ֖ר וְצִיָּ֑ה יְשֻׂשׂ֥וּם עֲרָבָ֛ה וְתָגֵ֧ל וְתִפְרַ֖ח כַּחֲבַצָּֽלֶת׃ miḏ·bār wə·ṣî·yāh yə·śu·śūm ‘ă·rā·ḇāh wə·ṯā·ḡêl wə·ṯip̄·raḥ ka·ḥă·ḇaṣ·ṣā·leṯ — WLC · 1

It will bloom profusely… and rejoice with joy and singing. The glory of Lebanon will be given to it, the splendor of Carmel and Sharon. They will see the glory of the LORD, the splendor of our God.

פָּרֹ֨חַ תִּפְרַ֜ח אַ֚ף וְתָגֵ֗ל גִּילַ֣ת וְרַנֵּ֔ן כְּב֤וֹד הַלְּבָנוֹן֙ נִתַּן־ לָ֔הּ הֲדַ֥ר הַכַּרְמֶ֖ל וְהַשָּׁר֑וֹן הֵ֛מָּה יִרְא֥וּ כְבוֹד־ יְהוָ֖ה הֲדַ֥ר אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ׃ס pā·rō·aḥ tip̄·raḥ ’ap̄ wə·ṯā·ḡêl gî·laṯ wə·ran·nên kə·ḇō·wḏ hal·lə·ḇā·nō·wn nit·tan- lāh hă·ḏar hak·kar·mel wə·haš·šā·rō·wn hêm·māh yir·’ū ḵə·ḇō·wḏ- Yah·weh hă·ḏar ’ĕ·lō·hê·nū — WLC · 2

Strengthen the limp hands and steady the feeble knees!
𐤇𐤆𐤒𐤅 𐤓𐤐𐤅𐤕 𐤉𐤃𐤉𐤌 𐤀𐤌𐤑𐤅 𐤊𐤔𐤋𐤅𐤕 𐤅𐤁𐤓𐤊𐤉𐤌
חַזְּק֖וּ רָפ֑וֹת יָדַ֣יִם אַמֵּֽצוּ׃ כֹּשְׁל֖וֹת וּבִרְכַּ֥יִם ḥaz·zə·qū rā·p̄ō·wṯ yā·ḏa·yim ’am·mê·ṣū kō·šə·lō·wṯ ū·ḇir·ka·yim — WLC · 3

Say to those with anxious hearts: “Be strong, do not fear! Behold, your God will come with vengeance. With divine retribution He will come to save you.”
𐤀𐤌𐤓𐤅 𐤋𐤍𐤌𐤄𐤓𐤉 𐤋𐤁 𐤇𐤆𐤒𐤅 𐤀𐤋 𐤕𐤉𐤓𐤀𐤅 𐤄𐤍𐤄 𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤊𐤌 𐤉𐤁𐤅𐤀 𐤍𐤒𐤌 𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 𐤂𐤌𐤅𐤋 𐤄𐤅𐤀 𐤉𐤁𐤅𐤀 𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤏𐤊𐤌
אִמְרוּ֙ לְנִמְהֲרֵי־ לֵ֔ב חִזְק֖וּ אַל־ תִּירָ֑אוּ הִנֵּ֤ה אֱלֹֽהֵיכֶם֙ יָב֔וֹא נָקָ֣ם אֱלֹהִ֔ים גְּמ֣וּל ה֥וּא יָב֖וֹא וְיֹשַׁעֲכֶֽם׃ ’im·rū lə·nim·hă·rê- lêḇ ḥiz·qū ’al- tî·rā·’ū hin·nêh ’ĕ·lō·hê·ḵem yā·ḇō·w nā·qām ’ĕ·lō·hîm gə·mūl hū yā·ḇō·w wə·yō·ša·‘ă·ḵem — WLC · 4

Then the eyes of the blind will be opened and the ears of the deaf unstopped.

אָ֥ז עֵינֵ֣י עִוְרִ֑ים תִּפָּקַ֖חְנָה וְאָזְנֵ֥י חֵרְשִׁ֖ים תִּפָּתַֽחְנָה׃ ’āz ‘ê·nê ‘iw·rîm tip·pā·qaḥ·nāh wə·’ā·zə·nê ḥê·rə·šîm tip·pā·ṯaḥ·nāh — WLC · 5

Then the lame will leap like a deer and the mute tongue will shout for joy. For waters will gush forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert.

אָ֣ז פִּסֵּ֔חַ יְדַלֵּ֤ג כָּֽאַיָּל֙ אִלֵּ֑ם לְשׁ֣וֹן וְתָרֹ֖ן כִּֽי־ מַ֔יִם נִבְקְע֤וּ בַמִּדְבָּר֙ וּנְחָלִ֖ים בָּעֲרָבָֽה׃ ’āz pis·sê·aḥ yə·ḏal·lêḡ kā·’ay·yāl ’il·lêm lə·šō·wn wə·ṯā·rōn kî- ma·yim niḇ·qə·‘ū ḇam·miḏ·bār ū·nə·ḥā·lîm bā·‘ă·rā·ḇāh — WLC · 6

The parched ground will become a pool, the thirsty land springs of water. In the haunt where jackals once lay, there will be grass [and] reeds and papyrus.
𐤄𐤔𐤓𐤁 𐤅𐤄𐤉𐤄 𐤋𐤀𐤂𐤌 𐤅𐤑𐤌𐤀𐤅𐤍 𐤋𐤌𐤁𐤅𐤏𐤉 𐤌𐤉𐤌 𐤁𐤍𐤅𐤄 𐤕𐤍𐤉𐤌 𐤓𐤁𐤑𐤄 𐤇𐤑𐤉𐤓 𐤋𐤒𐤍𐤄 𐤅𐤂𐤌𐤀
הַשָּׁרָב֙ וְהָיָ֤ה לַאֲגַ֔ם וְצִמָּא֖וֹן לְמַבּ֣וּעֵי מָ֑יִם בִּנְוֵ֤ה תַנִּים֙ רִבְצָ֔הּ חָצִ֖יר לְקָנֶ֥ה וָגֹֽמֶא׃ haš·šā·rāḇ wə·hā·yāh la·’ă·ḡam wə·ṣim·mā·’ō·wn lə·mab·bū·‘ê mā·yim bin·wêh ṯan·nîm riḇ·ṣāh ḥā·ṣîr lə·qā·neh wā·ḡō·me — WLC · 7

And there will be a highway… called the Way of Holiness. The unclean will not travel it— only… those who walk in the Way— and fools will not stray onto it.

שָׁ֞ם וְהָיָה־ מַסְל֣וּל וָדֶ֗רֶךְ יִקָּ֣רֵא לָ֔הּ וְדֶ֤רֶךְ הַקֹּ֙דֶשׁ֙ טָמֵ֖א לֹֽא־ יַעַבְרֶ֥נּוּ וְהוּא־ לָ֑מוֹ הֹלֵ֥ךְ דֶּ֛רֶךְ וֶאֱוִילִ֖ים לֹ֥א יִתְעֽוּ׃ šām wə·hā·yāh- mas·lūl wā·ḏe·reḵ yiq·qā·rê lāh wə·ḏe·reḵ haq·qō·ḏeš ṭā·mê lō- ya·‘aḇ·ren·nū wə·hū- lā·mōw hō·lêḵ de·reḵ we·’ĕ·wî·lîm lō yiṯ·‘ū — WLC · 8

No lion will be there, and no vicious beast will go up on it. Such will not be found there, but the redeemed will walk upon it.
𐤋𐤀 𐤀𐤓𐤉𐤄 𐤉𐤄𐤉𐤄 𐤔𐤌 𐤁𐤋 𐤅𐤐𐤓𐤉𐤑 𐤇𐤉𐤅𐤕 𐤉𐤏𐤋𐤍𐤄 𐤋𐤀 𐤕𐤌𐤑𐤀 𐤔𐤌 𐤂𐤀𐤅𐤋𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤄𐤋𐤊𐤅
לֹא־ אַרְיֵ֗ה יִהְיֶ֨ה שָׁ֜ם בַּֽל־ וּפְרִ֤יץ חַיּוֹת֙ יַעֲלֶ֔נָּה לֹ֥א תִמָּצֵ֖א שָׁ֑ם גְּאוּלִֽים׃ וְהָלְכ֖וּ lō- ’ar·yêh yih·yeh šām bal- ū·p̄ə·rîṣ ḥay·yō·wṯ ya·‘ă·len·nāh lō ṯim·mā·ṣê šām gə·’ū·lîm wə·hā·lə·ḵū — WLC · 9

So the redeemed of the LORD will return and enter Zion with singing, crowned… with everlasting joy. Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee.

וּפְדוּיֵ֨י יְהוָ֜ה יְשֻׁב֗וּן וּבָ֤אוּ צִיּוֹן֙ בְּרִנָּ֔ה עַל־ רֹאשָׁ֑ם עוֹלָ֖ם וְשִׂמְחַ֥ת שָׂשׂ֤וֹן וְשִׂמְחָה֙ יַשִּׂ֔יגוּ יָג֥וֹן וַאֲנָחָֽה׃פ וְנָ֖סוּ ū·p̄ə·ḏū·yê Yah·weh yə·šu·ḇūn ū·ḇā·’ū ṣî·yō·wn bə·rin·nāh ‘al- rō·šām ‘ō·w·lām wə·śim·ḥaṯ śā·śō·wn wə·śim·ḥāh yaś·śî·ḡū yā·ḡō·wn wa·’ă·nā·ḥāh wə·nā·sū — WLC · 10
