Do Not Harden Your Hearts

Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD; let us shout to the Rock of our salvation!
𐤋𐤊𐤅 𐤍𐤓𐤍𐤍𐤄 𐤋𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤍𐤓𐤉𐤏𐤄 𐤋𐤑𐤅𐤓 𐤉𐤔𐤏𐤍𐤅
לְ֭כוּ נְרַנְּנָ֣ה לַיהוָ֑ה נָ֝רִ֗יעָה לְצ֣וּר יִשְׁעֵֽנוּ׃ lə·ḵū nə·ran·nə·nāh Yah·weh nā·rî·‘āh lə·ṣūr yiš·‘ê·nū — WLC · 1

Let us enter His presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to Him in song.

נְקַדְּמָ֣ה פָנָ֣יו בְּתוֹדָ֑ה נָרִ֥יעַֽ לֽוֹ׃ בִּ֝זְמִר֗וֹת nə·qad·də·māh p̄ā·nāw bə·ṯō·w·ḏāh nā·rî·a‘ lōw biz·mi·rō·wṯ — WLC · 2

For the LORD is a great God, a great King above all gods.
𐤊𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤂𐤃𐤅𐤋 𐤀𐤋 𐤂𐤃𐤅𐤋 𐤅𐤌𐤋𐤊 𐤏𐤋 𐤊𐤋 𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌
כִּ֤י יְהוָ֑ה גָּד֣וֹל אֵ֣ל גָּ֝ד֗וֹל וּמֶ֥לֶךְ עַל־ כָּל־ אֱלֹהִֽים׃ kî Yah·weh gā·ḏō·wl ’êl gā·ḏō·wl ū·me·leḵ ‘al- kāl- ’ĕ·lō·hîm — WLC · 3

In His hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to Him.

אֲשֶׁ֣ר בְּ֭יָדוֹ מֶחְקְרֵי־ אָ֑רֶץ הָרִ֣ים וְתוֹעֲפ֖וֹת לֽוֹ׃ ’ă·šer bə·yā·ḏōw meḥ·qə·rê- ’ā·reṣ hā·rîm wə·ṯō·w·‘ă·p̄ō·wṯ lōw — WLC · 4

The sea is His for He made it, and His hands formed the dry land.

הַ֭יָּם אֲשֶׁר־ ל֣וֹ וְה֣וּא עָשָׂ֑הוּ יָדָ֥יו יָצָֽרוּ׃ וְ֝יַבֶּ֗שֶׁת hay·yām ’ă·šer- lōw wə·hū ‘ā·śā·hū yā·ḏāw yā·ṣā·rū wə·yab·be·šeṯ — WLC · 5

O come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the LORD our Maker.

בֹּ֭אוּ נִשְׁתַּחֲוֶ֣ה וְנִכְרָ֑עָה נִ֝בְרְכָ֗ה לִֽפְנֵי־ יְהוָ֥ה עֹשֵֽׂנוּ׃ bō·’ū niš·ta·ḥă·weh wə·niḵ·rā·‘āh niḇ·rə·ḵāh lip̄·nê- Yah·weh ‘ō·śê·nū — WLC · 6

For He is our God, and we are the people of His pasture, the sheep under His care. Today, if you hear His voice,
𐤊𐤉 𐤄𐤅𐤀 𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤍𐤅 𐤅𐤀𐤍𐤇𐤍𐤅 𐤏𐤌 𐤌𐤓𐤏𐤉𐤕𐤅 𐤅𐤑𐤀𐤍 𐤉𐤃𐤅 𐤄𐤉𐤅𐤌 𐤀𐤌 𐤕𐤔𐤌𐤏𐤅 𐤁𐤒𐤋𐤅
כִּ֘י ה֤וּא אֱלֹהֵ֗ינוּ וַאֲנַ֤חְנוּ עַ֣ם מַ֭רְעִיתוֹ וְצֹ֣אן יָד֑וֹ הַ֝יּ֗וֹם אִֽם־ תִשְׁמָֽעוּ׃ בְּקֹל֥וֹ kî hū ’ĕ·lō·hê·nū wa·’ă·naḥ·nū ‘am mar·‘î·ṯōw wə·ṣōn yā·ḏōw hay·yō·wm ’im- ṯiš·mā·‘ū bə·qō·lōw — WLC · 7

do not harden your hearts as you did at Meribah, in the day at Massah in the wilderness,
𐤀𐤋 𐤕𐤒𐤔𐤅 𐤋𐤁𐤁𐤊𐤌 𐤊𐤌𐤓𐤉𐤁𐤄 𐤊𐤉𐤅𐤌 𐤌𐤎𐤄 𐤁𐤌𐤃𐤁𐤓
אַל־ תַּקְשׁ֣וּ לְ֭בַבְכֶם כִּמְרִיבָ֑ה כְּי֥וֹם מַ֝סָּ֗ה בַּמִּדְבָּֽר׃ ’al- taq·šū lə·ḇaḇ·ḵem kim·rî·ḇāh kə·yō·wm mas·sāh bam·miḏ·bār — WLC · 8

where your fathers tested and tried Me, though they had seen My work.
𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤀𐤁𐤅𐤕𐤉𐤊𐤌 𐤍𐤎𐤅𐤍𐤉 𐤁𐤇𐤍𐤅𐤍𐤉 𐤂𐤌 𐤓𐤀𐤅 𐤐𐤏𐤋𐤉
אֲשֶׁ֣ר אֲבוֹתֵיכֶ֑ם נִ֭סּוּנִי בְּ֝חָנ֗וּנִי גַּם־ רָא֥וּ פָעֳלִֽי׃ ’ă·šer ’ă·ḇō·w·ṯê·ḵem nis·sū·nî bə·ḥā·nū·nî gam- rā·’ū p̄ā·‘o·lî — WLC · 9

For forty years I was angry with that generation, and I said, “They are a people whose hearts go astray, and they have not known My ways.”

אַרְבָּ֘עִ֤ים שָׁנָ֨ה׀ אָ֘ק֤וּט בְּד֗וֹר וָאֹמַ֗ר הֵ֑ם עַ֤ם לֵבָ֣ב תֹּעֵ֣י וְ֝הֵ֗ם לֹא־ יָדְע֥וּ דְרָכָֽי׃ ’ar·bā·‘îm šā·nāh ’ā·qūṭ bə·ḏō·wr wā·’ō·mar hêm ‘am lê·ḇāḇ tō·‘ê wə·hêm lō- yā·ḏə·‘ū ḏə·rā·ḵāy — WLC · 10

So I swore on oath in My anger, “They shall never enter… My rest.”
