Tried but Trusting

A prayer of David. 1Incline Your ear, O LORD, and answer me, for I am poor and needy.

Preserve my soul, for I [am] godly. You are my God; save Your servant who trusts in You.

Be merciful to me, O Lord, for I call to You all day long.

Bring joy vvv to Your servant, for to You, O Lord, I lift up my soul.

שַׂ֭מֵּחַ נֶ֣פֶשׁ עַבְדֶּ֑ךָ כִּ֥י אֵלֶ֥יךָ אֲ֝דֹנָ֗י אֶשָּֽׂא׃ נַפְשִׁ֥י śam·mē·aḥ ne·p̄eš ‘aḇ·de·ḵā kî ’ê·le·ḵā ’ă·ḏō·nāy ’eś·śā nap̄·šî — WLC · 4

For You, O Lord, are kind and forgiving, rich in loving devotion to all who call on You.

כִּֽי־ אַתָּ֣ה אֲ֭דֹנָי ט֣וֹב וְסַלָּ֑ח וְרַב־ חֶ֝֗סֶד לְכָל־ קֹרְאֶֽיךָ׃ kî- ’at·tāh ’ă·ḏō·nāy ṭō·wḇ wə·sal·lāḥ wə·raḇ- ḥe·seḏ lə·ḵāl qō·rə·’e·ḵā — WLC · 5

Hear my prayer, O LORD, and attend to my plea for mercy.

הַאֲזִ֣ינָה תְּפִלָּתִ֑י יְ֭הוָה וְ֝הַקְשִׁ֗יבָה בְּק֣וֹל תַּחֲנוּנוֹתָֽי׃ ha·’ă·zî·nāh tə·p̄il·lā·ṯî Yah·weh wə·haq·šî·ḇāh bə·qō·wl ta·ḥă·nū·nō·w·ṯāy — WLC · 6

In the day of my distress I call on You, because You answer me.

בְּי֣וֹם צָ֭רָתִ֥י אֶקְרָאֶ֗ךָּ כִּ֣י תַעֲנֵֽנִי׃ bə·yō·wm ṣā·rā·ṯî ’eq·rā·’e·kā kî ṯa·‘ă·nê·nî — WLC · 7

O Lord, [there is] none like You among the gods, nor any works like Yours.

אֲדֹנָ֗י אֵין־ כָּמ֖וֹךָ בָאֱלֹהִ֥ים׀ וְאֵ֣ין כְּֽמַעֲשֶֽׂיךָ׃ ’ă·ḏō·nāy ’ên- kā·mō·w·ḵā ḇā·’ĕ·lō·hîm wə·’ên kə·ma·‘ă·śe·ḵā — WLC · 8

All the nations You have made will come and bow before You, O Lord, and they will glorify Your name.

כָּל־ גּוֹיִ֤ם׀ אֲשֶׁ֥ר עָשִׂ֗יתָ יָב֤וֹאוּ׀ וְיִשְׁתַּחֲו֣וּ לְפָנֶ֣יךָ אֲדֹנָ֑י וִֽיכַבְּד֣וּ לִשְׁמֶֽךָ׃ kāl- gō·w·yim ’ă·šer ‘ā·śî·ṯā yā·ḇō·w·’ū wə·yiš·ta·ḥă·wū lə·p̄ā·ne·ḵā ’ă·ḏō·nāy wî·ḵab·bə·ḏū liš·me·ḵā — WLC · 9

For You are great and perform wonders; You alone are God.

כִּֽי־ אַ֭תָּה גָד֣וֹל וְעֹשֵׂ֣ה נִפְלָא֑וֹת אַתָּ֖ה לְבַדֶּֽךָ׃ אֱלֹהִ֣ים kî- ’at·tāh ḡā·ḏō·wl wə·‘ō·śêh nip̄·lā·’ō·wṯ ’at·tāh lə·ḇad·de·ḵā ’ĕ·lō·hîm — WLC · 10

Teach me Your way, O LORD, that I may walk in Your truth. Give me an undivided heart, that I may fear Your name.

I will praise You, O Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify Your name forever.

For great is Your loving devotion to me; You have delivered me from the depths of Sheol.

כִּֽי־ גָּד֣וֹל חַ֭סְדְּךָ עָלָ֑י וְהִצַּ֥לְתָּ נַ֝פְשִׁ֗י תַּחְתִּיָּֽה׃ מִשְּׁא֥וֹל kî- gā·ḏō·wl ḥas·də·ḵā ‘ā·lāy wə·hiṣ·ṣal·tā nap̄·šî taḥ·tî·yāh miš·šə·’ō·wl — WLC · 13

The arrogant rise against me, O God; a band of ruthless men seeks my life; they have no regard for You.

זֵ֘דִ֤ים קָֽמוּ־ עָלַ֗י אֱלֹהִ֤ים׀ וַעֲדַ֣ת עָ֭רִיצִים בִּקְשׁ֣וּ נַפְשִׁ֑י וְלֹ֖א שָׂמ֣וּךָ לְנֶגְדָּֽם׃ zê·ḏîm qā·mū- ‘ā·lay ’ĕ·lō·hîm wa·‘ă·ḏaṯ ‘ā·rî·ṣîm biq·šū nap̄·šî wə·lō śā·mū·ḵā lə·neḡ·dām — WLC · 14

But You, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in loving devotion and faithfulness.

וְאַתָּ֣ה אֲ֭דֹנָי רַח֣וּם וְחַנּ֑וּן אֵל־ אֶ֥רֶךְ אַ֝פַּ֗יִם וְרַב־ חֶ֥סֶד וֶאֱמֶֽת׃ wə·’at·tāh ’ă·ḏō·nāy ra·ḥūm wə·ḥan·nūn ’êl- ’e·reḵ ’ap·pa·yim wə·raḇ- ḥe·seḏ we·’ĕ·meṯ — WLC · 15

Turn to me and have mercy; grant Your strength to Your servant; save the son of Your maidservant.

Show me a sign of Your goodness, that my enemies may see and be ashamed; for You, O LORD, have helped me and comforted me.
