Delight Yourself in the LORD
1
Of David. 1Do not fret over those who do evil; do not envy those who do wrong.
𐤋𐤃𐤅𐤃 𐤀𐤋 𐤕𐤕𐤇𐤓 𐤁𐤌𐤓𐤏𐤉𐤌 𐤀𐤋 𐤕𐤒𐤍𐤀 𐤁𐤏𐤔𐤉 𐤏𐤅𐤋𐤄
לְדָוִ֨ד׀ אַל־ תִּתְחַ֥ר בַּמְּרֵעִ֑ים אַל־ תְּ֝קַנֵּ֗א בְּעֹשֵׂ֥י עַוְלָֽה׃ lə·ḏā·wiḏ ’al- tiṯ·ḥar bam·mə·rê·‘îm ’al- tə·qan·nê bə·‘ō·śê ‘aw·lāh — WLC · 1

For they wither quickly like grass and wilt like tender plants.
𐤊𐤉 𐤉𐤌𐤋𐤅 𐤌𐤄𐤓𐤄 𐤊𐤇𐤑𐤉𐤓 𐤉𐤁𐤅𐤋𐤅𐤍 𐤅𐤊𐤉𐤓𐤒 𐤃𐤔𐤀
כִּ֣י יִמָּ֑לוּ מְהֵרָ֣ה כֶ֭חָצִיר יִבּוֹלֽוּן׃ וּכְיֶ֥רֶק דֶּ֝֗שֶׁא kî yim·mā·lū mə·hê·rāh ḵe·ḥā·ṣîr yib·bō·w·lūn ū·ḵə·ye·req de·še — WLC · 2

Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness.
𐤁𐤈𐤇 𐤁𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤅𐤏𐤔𐤄 𐤈𐤅𐤁 𐤔𐤊𐤍 𐤀𐤓𐤑 𐤅𐤓𐤏𐤄 𐤀𐤌𐤅𐤍𐤄
בְּטַ֣ח בַּֽ֭יהוָה וַעֲשֵׂה־ ט֑וֹב שְׁכָן־ אֶ֝֗רֶץ וּרְעֵ֥ה אֱמוּנָֽה׃ bə·ṭaḥ Yah·weh wa·‘ă·śêh- ṭō·wḇ šə·ḵān- ’e·reṣ ū·rə·‘êh ’ĕ·mū·nāh — WLC · 3

Delight yourself in the LORD, and He will give you the desires of your heart.

וְהִתְעַנַּ֥ג עַל־ יְהוָ֑ה וְיִֽתֶּן־ לְ֝ךָ֗ מִשְׁאֲלֹ֥ת לִבֶּֽךָ׃ wə·hiṯ·‘an·naḡ ‘al- Yah·weh wə·yit·ten- lə·ḵā miš·’ă·lōṯ lib·be·ḵā — WLC · 4

Commit your way to the LORD; trust in Him, and He will do it.

גּ֣וֹל דַּרְכֶּ֑ךָ עַל־ יְהוָ֣ה וּבְטַ֥ח עָ֝לָ֗יו וְה֣וּא יַעֲשֶֽׂה׃ gō·wl dar·ke·ḵā ‘al- Yah·weh ū·ḇə·ṭaḥ ‘ā·lāw wə·hū ya·‘ă·śeh — WLC · 5

He will bring forth your righteousness like the dawn, your justice like the noonday sun.
𐤅𐤄𐤅𐤑𐤉𐤀 𐤑𐤃𐤒𐤊 𐤊𐤀𐤅𐤓 𐤅𐤌𐤔𐤐𐤈𐤊 𐤊𐤑𐤄𐤓𐤉𐤌
וְהוֹצִ֣יא צִדְקֶ֑ךָ כָא֣וֹר וּ֝מִשְׁפָּטֶ֗ךָ כַּֽצָּהֳרָֽיִם׃ wə·hō·w·ṣî ṣiḏ·qe·ḵā ḵā·’ō·wr ū·miš·pā·ṭe·ḵā kaṣ·ṣā·ho·rā·yim — WLC · 6

Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for Him; do not fret when men prosper in their ways, [when they] carry out wicked schemes.
𐤃𐤅𐤌 𐤋𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤅𐤄𐤕𐤇𐤅𐤋𐤋 𐤋𐤅 𐤀𐤋 𐤕𐤕𐤇𐤓 𐤁𐤌𐤑𐤋𐤉𐤇 𐤃𐤓𐤊𐤅 𐤁𐤀𐤉𐤔 𐤏𐤔𐤄 𐤌𐤆𐤌𐤅𐤕
דּ֤וֹם׀ לַיהוָה֮ וְהִתְח֪וֹלֵ֫ל ל֥וֹ אַל־ תִּ֭תְחַר בְּמַצְלִ֣יחַ דַּרְכּ֑וֹ בְּ֝אִ֗ישׁ עֹשֶׂ֥ה מְזִמּֽוֹת׃ dō·wm Yah·weh wə·hiṯ·ḥō·w·lêl lōw ’al- tiṯ·ḥar bə·maṣ·lî·aḥ dar·kōw bə·’îš ‘ō·śeh mə·zim·mō·wṯ — WLC · 7

Refrain from anger and abandon wrath; do not fret— it can only bring harm.

הֶ֣רֶף מֵ֭אַף וַעֲזֹ֣ב חֵמָ֑ה אַל־ תִּ֝תְחַ֗ר אַךְ־ לְהָרֵֽעַ׃ he·rep̄ mê·’ap̄ wa·‘ă·zōḇ ḥê·māh ’al- tiṯ·ḥar ’aḵ- lə·hā·rê·a‘ — WLC · 8

For the evildoers will be cut off, but those who hope in the LORD… will inherit the land.
𐤊𐤉 𐤌𐤓𐤏𐤉𐤌 𐤉𐤊𐤓𐤕𐤅𐤍 𐤅𐤒𐤅𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤄𐤌𐤄 𐤉𐤉𐤓𐤔𐤅 𐤀𐤓𐤑
כִּֽי־ מְ֭רֵעִים יִכָּרֵת֑וּן וְקֹוֵ֥י יְ֝הוָ֗ה הֵ֣מָּה יִֽירְשׁוּ־ אָֽרֶץ׃ kî- mə·rê·‘îm yik·kā·rê·ṯūn wə·qō·wê Yah·weh hêm·māh yî·rə·šū- ’ā·reṣ — WLC · 9

Yet a little while…, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them, vvv they will not be found.

וְע֣וֹד מְ֭עַט רָשָׁ֑ע וְאֵ֣ין וְהִתְבּוֹנַ֖נְתָּ עַל־ מְקוֹמ֣וֹ וְאֵינֶֽנּוּ׃ wə·‘ō·wḏ mə·‘aṭ rā·šā‘ wə·’ên wə·hiṯ·bō·w·nan·tā ‘al- mə·qō·w·mōw wə·’ê·nen·nū — WLC · 10

But the meek will inherit the land and delight in abundant prosperity.

וַעֲנָוִ֥ים יִֽירְשׁוּ־ אָ֑רֶץ וְ֝הִתְעַנְּג֗וּ עַל־ רֹ֥ב שָׁלֽוֹם׃ wa·‘ă·nā·wîm yî·rə·šū- ’ā·reṣ wə·hiṯ·‘an·nə·ḡū ‘al- rōḇ šā·lō·wm — WLC · 11
12
The wicked scheme against the righteous and gnash their teeth at them,
𐤓𐤔𐤏 𐤆𐤌𐤌 𐤋𐤑𐤃𐤉𐤒 𐤅𐤇𐤓𐤒 𐤔𐤍𐤉𐤅 𐤏𐤋𐤉𐤅
רָ֭שָׁע זֹמֵ֣ם לַצַּדִּ֑יק וְחֹרֵ֖ק שִׁנָּֽיו׃ עָלָ֣יו rā·šā‘ zō·mêm laṣ·ṣad·dîq wə·ḥō·rêq šin·nāw ‘ā·lāw — WLC · 12
13
but the Lord laughs seeing that their day is coming.
𐤀𐤃𐤍𐤉 𐤉𐤔𐤇𐤒 𐤋𐤅 𐤊𐤉 𐤓𐤀𐤄 𐤊𐤉 𐤉𐤅𐤌𐤅 𐤉𐤁𐤀
אֲדֹנָ֥י יִשְׂחַק־ ל֑וֹ כִּֽי־ רָ֝אָ֗ה כִּֽי־ יוֹמֽוֹ׃ יָבֹ֥א ’ă·ḏō·nāy yiś·ḥaq- lōw kî- rā·’āh kî- yō·w·mōw yā·ḇō — WLC · 13
14
The wicked have drawn the sword and bent the bow to bring down the poor and needy, to slay those whose ways [are] upright.
𐤓𐤔𐤏𐤉𐤌 𐤐𐤕𐤇𐤅 𐤇𐤓𐤁 𐤅𐤃𐤓𐤊𐤅 𐤒𐤔𐤕𐤌 𐤋𐤄𐤐𐤉𐤋 𐤏𐤍𐤉 𐤅𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤅𐤍 𐤋𐤈𐤁𐤅𐤇 𐤃𐤓𐤊 𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤉
רְשָׁעִים֮ פָּֽתְח֣וּ חֶ֤רֶב׀ וְדָרְכ֪וּ קַ֫שְׁתָּ֥ם לְ֭הַפִּיל עָנִ֣י וְאֶבְי֑וֹן לִ֝טְב֗וֹחַ דָֽרֶךְ׃ יִשְׁרֵי־ rə·šā·‘îm pā·ṯə·ḥū ḥe·reḇ wə·ḏā·rə·ḵū qaš·tām lə·hap·pîl ‘ā·nî wə·’eḇ·yō·wn liṭ·ḇō·w·aḥ ḏā·reḵ yiš·rê- — WLC · 14
15
[But] their swords will pierce their own hearts, and their bows will be broken.
𐤇𐤓𐤁𐤌 𐤕𐤁𐤅𐤀 𐤁𐤋𐤁𐤌 𐤅𐤒𐤔𐤕𐤅𐤕𐤌 𐤕𐤔𐤁𐤓𐤍𐤄
חַ֭רְבָּם תָּב֣וֹא בְלִבָּ֑ם וְ֝קַשְּׁתוֹתָ֗ם תִּשָּׁבַֽרְנָה׃ ḥar·bām tā·ḇō·w ḇə·lib·bām wə·qaš·šə·ṯō·w·ṯām tiš·šā·ḇar·nāh — WLC · 15
16
Better [is] the little of the righteous than the abundance of many [who are] wicked.
𐤈𐤅𐤁 𐤌𐤏𐤈 𐤋𐤑𐤃𐤉𐤒 𐤌𐤄𐤌𐤅𐤍 𐤓𐤁𐤉𐤌 𐤓𐤔𐤏𐤉𐤌
טוֹב־ מְ֭עַט לַצַּדִּ֑יק מֵ֝הֲמ֗וֹן רַבִּֽים׃ רְשָׁעִ֥ים ṭō·wḇ- mə·‘aṭ laṣ·ṣad·dîq mê·hă·mō·wn rab·bîm rə·šā·‘îm — WLC · 16
17
For the arms of the wicked will be broken, but the LORD upholds the righteous.
𐤊𐤉 𐤆𐤓𐤅𐤏𐤅𐤕 𐤓𐤔𐤏𐤉𐤌 𐤕𐤔𐤁𐤓𐤍𐤄 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤅𐤎𐤅𐤌𐤊 𐤑𐤃𐤉𐤒𐤉𐤌
כִּ֤י זְרוֹע֣וֹת רְ֭שָׁעִים תִּשָּׁבַ֑רְנָה יְהוָֽה׃ וְסוֹמֵ֖ךְ צַדִּיקִ֣ים kî zə·rō·w·‘ō·wṯ rə·šā·‘îm tiš·šā·ḇar·nāh Yah·weh wə·sō·w·mêḵ ṣad·dî·qîm — WLC · 17
18
The LORD knows the days of the blameless, and their inheritance will last forever…
𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤉𐤅𐤃𐤏 𐤉𐤌𐤉 𐤕𐤌𐤉𐤌𐤌 𐤅𐤍𐤇𐤋𐤕𐤌 𐤕𐤄𐤉𐤄 𐤋𐤏𐤅𐤋𐤌
יְ֭הוָה יוֹדֵ֣עַ יְמֵ֣י תְמִימִ֑ם וְ֝נַחֲלָתָ֗ם תִּהְיֶֽה׃ לְעוֹלָ֥ם Yah·weh yō·w·ḏê·a‘ yə·mê ṯə·mî·mim wə·na·ḥă·lā·ṯām tih·yeh lə·‘ō·w·lām — WLC · 18
19
In the time of evil they will not be ashamed, and in the days of famine they will be satisfied.
𐤁𐤏𐤕 𐤓𐤏𐤄 𐤋𐤀 𐤉𐤁𐤔𐤅 𐤅𐤁𐤉𐤌𐤉 𐤓𐤏𐤁𐤅𐤍 𐤉𐤔𐤁𐤏𐤅
בְּעֵ֣ת רָעָ֑ה לֹֽא־ יֵ֭בֹשׁוּ וּבִימֵ֖י רְעָב֣וֹן יִשְׂבָּֽעוּ׃ bə·‘êṯ rā·‘āh lō- yê·ḇō·šū ū·ḇî·mê rə·‘ā·ḇō·wn yiś·bā·‘ū — WLC · 19
20
But the wicked and enemies of the LORD will perish like the glory of the fields. They will vanish; like smoke they will fade away.
𐤊𐤉 𐤓𐤔𐤏𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤀𐤉𐤁𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤉𐤀𐤁𐤃𐤅 𐤊𐤉𐤒𐤓 𐤊𐤓𐤉𐤌 𐤊𐤋𐤅 𐤁𐤏𐤔𐤍 𐤊𐤋𐤅
כִּ֤י רְשָׁעִ֨ים׀ וְאֹיְבֵ֣י יְ֭הוָה יֹאבֵ֗דוּ כִּיקַ֣ר כָּרִ֑ים כָּל֖וּ בֶעָשָׁ֣ן כָּֽלוּ׃ kî rə·šā·‘îm wə·’ō·yə·ḇê Yah·weh yō·ḇê·ḏū kî·qar kā·rîm kā·lū ḇe·‘ā·šān kā·lū — WLC · 20
21
The wicked borrow and do not repay, but the righteous are gracious and giving.
𐤓𐤔𐤏 𐤋𐤅𐤄 𐤅𐤋𐤀 𐤉𐤔𐤋𐤌 𐤅𐤑𐤃𐤉𐤒 𐤇𐤅𐤍𐤍 𐤅𐤍𐤅𐤕𐤍
רָ֭שָׁע לֹוֶ֣ה וְלֹ֣א יְשַׁלֵּ֑ם וְ֝צַדִּ֗יק חוֹנֵ֥ן וְנוֹתֵֽן׃ rā·šā‘ lō·weh wə·lō yə·šal·lêm wə·ṣad·dîq ḥō·w·nên wə·nō·w·ṯên — WLC · 21
22
Surely those He blesses will inherit the land, but the cursed will be destroyed.
𐤊𐤉 𐤌𐤁𐤓𐤊𐤉𐤅 𐤉𐤉𐤓𐤔𐤅 𐤀𐤓𐤑 𐤅𐤌𐤒𐤋𐤋𐤉𐤅 𐤉𐤊𐤓𐤕𐤅
כִּ֣י מְ֭בֹרָכָיו יִ֣ירְשׁוּ אָ֑רֶץ וּ֝מְקֻלָּלָ֗יו יִכָּרֵֽתוּ׃ kî mə·ḇō·rā·ḵāw yî·rə·šū ’ā·reṣ ū·mə·qul·lā·lāw yik·kā·rê·ṯū — WLC · 22
23
The steps of a man are ordered by the LORD [who] takes delight in his journey.
𐤌𐤑𐤏𐤃𐤉 𐤂𐤁𐤓 𐤊𐤅𐤍𐤍𐤅 𐤌𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤉𐤇𐤐𐤑 𐤅𐤃𐤓𐤊𐤅
מִֽצְעֲדֵי־ גֶ֥בֶר כּוֹנָ֗נוּ מֵ֭יְהוָה יֶחְפָּֽץ׃ וְדַרְכּ֥וֹ miṣ·‘ă·ḏê- ḡe·ḇer kō·w·nā·nū Yah·weh yeḥ·pāṣ wə·ḏar·kōw — WLC · 23
24
Though he falls, he will not be overwhelmed, for the LORD is holding his hand.
𐤊𐤉 𐤉𐤐𐤋 𐤋𐤀 𐤉𐤅𐤈𐤋 𐤊𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤎𐤅𐤌𐤊 𐤉𐤃𐤅
כִּֽי־ יִפֹּ֥ל לֹֽא־ יוּטָ֑ל כִּֽי־ יְ֝הוָ֗ה סוֹמֵ֥ךְ יָדֽוֹ׃ kî- yip·pōl lō- yū·ṭāl kî- Yah·weh sō·w·mêḵ yā·ḏōw — WLC · 24
25
I once was young and now am old, yet never have I seen the righteous abandoned or their children begging for bread.
𐤄𐤉𐤉𐤕𐤉 𐤍𐤏𐤓 𐤂𐤌 𐤆𐤒𐤍𐤕𐤉 𐤅𐤋𐤀 𐤓𐤀𐤉𐤕𐤉 𐤑𐤃𐤉𐤒 𐤍𐤏𐤆𐤁 𐤅𐤆𐤓𐤏𐤅 𐤌𐤁𐤒𐤔 𐤋𐤇𐤌
הָיִ֗יתִי נַ֤עַר׀ גַּם־ זָ֫קַ֥נְתִּי וְֽלֹא־ רָ֭אִיתִי צַדִּ֣יק נֶעֱזָ֑ב וְ֝זַרְע֗וֹ מְבַקֶּשׁ־ לָֽחֶם׃ hā·yî·ṯî na·‘ar gam- zā·qan·tî wə·lō- rā·’î·ṯî ṣad·dîq ne·‘ĕ·zāḇ wə·zar·‘ōw mə·ḇaq·qeš- lā·ḥem — WLC · 25

They are ever generous and quick to lend, and their children are a blessing.
𐤊𐤋 𐤄𐤉𐤅𐤌 𐤇𐤅𐤍𐤍 𐤅𐤌𐤋𐤅𐤄 𐤅𐤆𐤓𐤏𐤅 𐤋𐤁𐤓𐤊𐤄
כָּל־ הַ֭יּוֹם חוֹנֵ֣ן וּמַלְוֶ֑ה וְ֝זַרְע֗וֹ לִבְרָכָֽה׃ kāl- hay·yō·wm ḥō·w·nên ū·mal·weh wə·zar·‘ōw liḇ·rā·ḵāh — WLC · 26
27
Turn away from evil and do good, so that you will abide forever.
𐤎𐤅𐤓 𐤌𐤓𐤏 𐤅𐤏𐤔𐤄 𐤈𐤅𐤁 𐤅𐤔𐤊𐤍 𐤋𐤏𐤅𐤋𐤌
ס֣וּר מֵ֭רָע וַעֲשֵׂה־ ט֗וֹב וּשְׁכֹ֥ן לְעוֹלָֽם׃ sūr mê·rā‘ wa·‘ă·śêh- ṭō·wḇ ū·šə·ḵōn lə·‘ō·w·lām — WLC · 27
28
For the LORD loves justice and will not forsake His saints. They are preserved forever, but the offspring of the wicked will be cut off.
𐤊𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤄𐤁 𐤌𐤔𐤐𐤈 𐤅𐤋𐤀 𐤉𐤏𐤆𐤁 𐤀𐤕 𐤇𐤎𐤉𐤃𐤉𐤅 𐤍𐤔𐤌𐤓𐤅 𐤋𐤏𐤅𐤋𐤌 𐤅𐤆𐤓𐤏 𐤓𐤔𐤏𐤉𐤌 𐤍𐤊𐤓𐤕
כִּ֤י יְהוָ֨ה׀ אֹ֘הֵ֤ב מִשְׁפָּ֗ט וְלֹא־ יַעֲזֹ֣ב אֶת־ חֲ֭סִידָיו נִשְׁמָ֑רוּ לְעוֹלָ֣ם וְזֶ֖רַע רְשָׁעִ֣ים נִכְרָֽת׃ kî Yah·weh ’ō·hêḇ miš·pāṭ wə·lō- ya·‘ă·zōḇ ’eṯ- ḥă·sî·ḏāw niš·mā·rū lə·‘ō·w·lām wə·ze·ra‘ rə·šā·‘îm niḵ·rāṯ — WLC · 28

The righteous will inherit the land and dwell in it forever.

צַדִּיקִ֥ים יִֽירְשׁוּ־ אָ֑רֶץ וְיִשְׁכְּנ֖וּ עָלֶֽיהָ׃ לָעַ֣ד ṣad·dî·qîm yî·rə·šū- ’ā·reṣ wə·yiš·kə·nū ‘ā·le·hā lā·‘aḏ — WLC · 29
30
The mouth of the righteous man utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks justice.

פִּֽי־ צַ֭דִּיק יֶהְגֶּ֣ה חָכְמָ֑ה וּ֝לְשׁוֹנ֗וֹ תְּדַבֵּ֥ר מִשְׁפָּֽט׃ pî- ṣad·dîq yeh·geh ḥāḵ·māh ū·lə·šō·w·nōw tə·ḏab·bêr miš·pāṭ — WLC · 30
31
The law of his God is in his heart; his steps do not falter.

תּוֹרַ֣ת אֱלֹהָ֣יו בְּלִבּ֑וֹ אֲשֻׁרָיו׃ לֹ֖א תִמְעַ֣ד tō·w·raṯ ’ĕ·lō·hāw bə·lib·bōw ’ă·šu·rāw lō ṯim·‘aḏ — WLC · 31

Though the wicked lie in wait for the righteous, and seek to slay them,

the LORD will not leave them in their power or let them be condemned under judgment.

Wait for the LORD and keep His way, and He will raise you up to inherit the land. When the wicked are cut off, you will see [it].

I have seen a wicked, ruthless man flourishing like a well-rooted native tree,

רָ֭אִיתִי רָשָׁ֣ע עָרִ֑יץ רַעֲנָֽן׃ וּ֝מִתְעָרֶ֗ה כְּאֶזְרָ֥ח rā·’î·ṯî rā·šā‘ ‘ā·rîṣ ra·‘ă·nān ū·miṯ·‘ā·reh kə·’ez·rāḥ — WLC · 35

yet he passed away and was no more…; though I searched, he could not be found.

Consider the blameless and observe the upright, for posterity [awaits] the man of peace.

שְׁמָר־ תָּ֭ם וּרְאֵ֣ה יָשָׁ֑ר כִּֽי־ אַחֲרִ֖ית לְאִ֣ישׁ שָׁלֽוֹם׃ šə·mār- tām ū·rə·’êh yā·šār kî- ’a·ḥă·rîṯ lə·’îš šā·lō·wm — WLC · 37

But the transgressors will all be destroyed; the future of the wicked will be cut off.

The salvation of the righteous [is] from the LORD; [He is] their stronghold in time of trouble.

וּתְשׁוּעַ֣ת צַ֭דִּיקִים מֵיְהוָ֑ה מָֽ֝עוּזָּ֗ם בְּעֵ֣ת צָרָֽה׃ ū·ṯə·šū·‘aṯ ṣad·dî·qîm Yah·weh mā·‘ūz·zām bə·‘êṯ ṣā·rāh — WLC · 39

The LORD helps and delivers them; He rescues and saves them from the wicked, because they take refuge in Him.
