Chapter 36
The Transgression of the Wicked

For the choirmaster. A Psalm of David, the servant of the LORD. 1An oracle is in my heart regarding the transgression of the wicked man: There is no fear of God before his eyes.

לַמְנַצֵּ֬חַ׀ לְדָוִֽד׃ לְעֶֽבֶד־ יְהוָ֬ה נְאֻֽם־ בְּקֶ֣רֶב לִבִּ֑י פֶּ֣שַׁע לָ֭רָשָׁע אֵֽין־ פַּ֥חַד אֱ֝לֹהִ֗ים לְנֶ֣גֶד עֵינָֽיו׃ lam·naṣ·ṣê·aḥ lə·ḏā·wiḏ lə·‘e·ḇeḏ- Yah·weh nə·’um- bə·qe·reḇ lib·bî pe·ša‘ lā·rā·šā‘ ’ên- pa·ḥaḏ ’ĕ·lō·hîm lə·ne·ḡeḏ ‘ê·nāw — WLC · 1

For his eyes are too full of conceit… to detect or hate his own sin.
𐤊𐤉 𐤁𐤏𐤉𐤍𐤉𐤅 𐤄𐤇𐤋𐤉𐤒 𐤀𐤋𐤉𐤅 𐤋𐤌𐤑𐤀 𐤋𐤔𐤍𐤀 𐤏𐤅𐤍𐤅
כִּֽי־ בְּעֵינָ֑יו הֶחֱלִ֣יק אֵלָ֣יו לִמְצֹ֖א לִשְׂנֹֽא׃ עֲוֺנ֣וֹ kî- bə·‘ê·nāw he·ḥĕ·lîq ’ê·lāw lim·ṣō liś·nō ‘ă·wō·nōw — WLC · 2

The words of his mouth are wicked and deceitful; he has ceased to be wise [and] well-doing.

דִּבְרֵי־ פִ֭יו אָ֣וֶן וּמִרְמָ֑ה חָדַ֖ל לְהַשְׂכִּ֣יל לְהֵיטִֽיב׃ diḇ·rê- p̄îw ’ā·wen ū·mir·māh ḥā·ḏal lə·haś·kîl lə·hê·ṭîḇ — WLC · 3

Even on his bed he plots wickedness; he sets himself on a path that is not good; he fails to reject evil.

עַֽל־ מִשְׁכָּ֫ב֥וֹ יַחְשֹׁ֗ב אָ֤וֶן׀ יִ֭תְיַצֵּב עַל־ דֶּ֣רֶךְ לֹא־ ט֑וֹב לֹ֣א יִמְאָֽס׃ רָ֝֗ע ‘al- miš·kā·ḇōw yaḥ·šōḇ ’ā·wen yiṯ·yaṣ·ṣêḇ ‘al- de·reḵ lō- ṭō·wḇ lō yim·’ās rā‘ — WLC · 4

Your loving devotion, O LORD, reaches to the heavens, Your faithfulness to the clouds.
𐤇𐤎𐤃𐤊 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤁𐤄𐤔𐤌𐤉𐤌 𐤀𐤌𐤅𐤍𐤕𐤊 𐤏𐤃 𐤔𐤇𐤒𐤉𐤌
חַסְדֶּ֑ךָ יְ֭הוָה בְּהַשָּׁמַ֣יִם אֱ֝מֽוּנָתְךָ֗ עַד־ שְׁחָקִֽים׃ ḥas·de·ḵā Yah·weh bə·haš·šā·ma·yim ’ĕ·mū·nā·ṯə·ḵā ‘aḏ- šə·ḥā·qîm — WLC · 5

Your righteousness is like the highest mountains; Your judgments [are] like the deepest sea… O LORD, You preserve man and beast.

צִדְקָֽתְךָ֨׀ אֵ֗ל כְּֽהַרְרֵי־ מִ֭שְׁפָּטֶךָ תְּה֣וֹם רַבָּ֑ה יְהוָֽה׃ תוֹשִׁ֣יעַ אָ֤דָֽם־ וּבְהֵמָ֖ה ṣiḏ·qā·ṯə·ḵā ’êl kə·har·rê- miš·pā·ṭe·ḵā tə·hō·wm rab·bāh Yah·weh ṯō·wō·šî·a‘ ’ā·ḏām- ū·ḇə·hê·māh — WLC · 6

How precious is Your loving devotion, O God, that the children of men take refuge in the shadow of Your wings!

מַה־ יָּקָ֥ר חַסְדְּךָ֗ אֱלֹ֫הִ֥ים וּבְנֵ֥י אָדָ֑ם יֶחֱסָיֽוּן׃ בְּצֵ֥ל כְּ֝נָפֶ֗יךָ mah- yā·qār ḥas·də·ḵā ’ĕ·lō·hîm ū·ḇə·nê ’ā·ḏām ye·ḥĕ·sā·yūn bə·ṣêl kə·nā·p̄e·ḵā — WLC · 7

They feast on the abundance of Your house, and You give them drink from Your river of delights.

יִ֭רְוְיֻן מִדֶּ֣שֶׁן בֵּיתֶ֑ךָ תַשְׁקֵֽם׃ וְנַ֖חַל עֲדָנֶ֣יךָ yir·wə·yun mid·de·šen bê·ṯe·ḵā ṯaš·qêm wə·na·ḥal ‘ă·ḏā·ne·ḵā — WLC · 8

For with You is the fountain of life; in Your light we see light.
𐤊𐤉 𐤏𐤌𐤊 𐤌𐤒𐤅𐤓 𐤇𐤉𐤉𐤌 𐤁𐤀𐤅𐤓𐤊 𐤍𐤓𐤀𐤄 𐤀𐤅𐤓
כִּֽי־ עִ֭מְּךָ מְק֣וֹר חַיִּ֑ים בְּ֝אוֹרְךָ֗ נִרְאֶה־ אֽוֹר׃ kî- ‘im·mə·ḵā mə·qō·wr ḥay·yîm bə·’ō·wr·ḵā nir·’eh- ’ō·wr — WLC · 9

Extend Your loving devotion to those who know You, and Your righteousness to the upright in heart.
𐤌𐤔𐤊 𐤇𐤎𐤃𐤊 𐤋𐤉𐤃𐤏𐤉𐤊 𐤅𐤑𐤃𐤒𐤕𐤊 𐤋𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤉 𐤋𐤁
מְשֹׁ֣ךְ חַ֭סְדְּךָ לְיֹדְעֶ֑יךָ וְ֝צִדְקָֽתְךָ֗ לְיִשְׁרֵי־ לֵֽב׃ mə·šōḵ ḥas·də·ḵā lə·yō·ḏə·‘e·ḵā wə·ṣiḏ·qā·ṯə·ḵā lə·yiš·rê- lêḇ — WLC · 10

Let not the foot of the proud come against me, nor the hand of the wicked drive me away.

אַל־ רֶ֣גֶל גַּאֲוָ֑ה תְּ֭בוֹאֵנִי וְיַד־ רְ֝שָׁעִ֗ים תְּנִדֵֽנִי׃ אַל־ ’al- re·ḡel ga·’ă·wāh tə·ḇō·w·’ê·nî wə·yaḏ- rə·šā·‘îm tə·ni·ḏê·nî ’al- — WLC · 11

There the evildoers… lie fallen, thrown down and unable… to rise.

שָׁ֣ם פֹּ֣עֲלֵי אָ֑וֶן נָ֭פְלוּ דֹּ֝ח֗וּ וְלֹא־ יָ֥כְלוּ קֽוּם׃ šām pō·‘ă·lê ’ā·wen nā·p̄ə·lū dō·ḥū wə·lō- yā·ḵə·lū qūm — WLC · 12
