Take up Your shield and buckler; arise and come to my aid.

הַחֲזֵ֣ק מָגֵ֣ן וְצִנָּ֑ה וְ֝ק֗וּמָה בְּעֶזְרָתִֽי׃ ha·ḥă·zêq mā·ḡên wə·ṣin·nāh wə·qū·māh bə·‘ez·rā·ṯî — WLC · 2

Draw the spear and javelin against my pursuers; say to my soul: “I [am] your salvation.”

וְהָ֘רֵ֤ק חֲנִ֣ית וּ֭סְגֹר לִקְרַ֣את רֹדְפָ֑י אֱמֹ֥ר לְ֝נַפְשִׁ֗י אָֽנִי׃ יְֽשֻׁעָתֵ֥ךְ wə·hā·rêq ḥă·nîṯ ū·sə·ḡōr liq·raṯ rō·ḏə·p̄āy ’ĕ·mōr lə·nap̄·šî ’ā·nî yə·šu·‘ā·ṯêḵ — WLC · 3

May those who seek my life be disgraced and put to shame; may those who plan to harm me be driven back… and confounded.

מְבַקְשֵׁ֪י נַ֫פְשִׁ֥י יֵבֹ֣שׁוּ וְיִכָּלְמוּ֮ חֹ֝שְׁבֵ֗י רָעָתִֽי׃ יִסֹּ֣גוּ אָח֣וֹר וְיַחְפְּר֑וּ mə·ḇaq·šê nap̄·šî yê·ḇō·šū wə·yik·kā·lə·mū ḥō·šə·ḇê rā·‘ā·ṯî yis·sō·ḡū ’ā·ḥō·wr wə·yaḥ·pə·rū — WLC · 4

May they be like chaff in the wind, as the angel of the LORD drives them away.

יִֽהְי֗וּ כְּמֹ֥ץ לִפְנֵי־ ר֑וּחַ וּמַלְאַ֖ךְ יְהוָ֣ה דּוֹחֶֽה׃ yih·yū kə·mōṣ lip̄·nê- rū·aḥ ū·mal·’aḵ Yah·weh dō·w·ḥeh — WLC · 5

May their path be dark and slick, as the angel of the LORD pursues.
𐤃𐤓𐤊𐤌 𐤉𐤄𐤉 𐤇𐤔𐤊 𐤅𐤇𐤋𐤒𐤋𐤒𐤅𐤕 𐤅𐤌𐤋𐤀𐤊 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤓𐤃𐤐𐤌
דַרְכָּ֗ם יְֽהִי־ חֹ֥שֶׁךְ וַחֲלַקְלַקּ֑וֹת וּמַלְאַ֥ךְ יְ֝הוָ֗ה רֹדְפָֽם׃ ḏar·kām yə·hî- ḥō·šeḵ wa·ḥă·laq·laq·qō·wṯ ū·mal·’aḵ Yah·weh rō·ḏə·p̄ām — WLC · 6

For without cause they laid their net for me; without reason they dug a pit for my soul.
𐤊𐤉 𐤇𐤍𐤌 𐤈𐤌𐤍𐤅 𐤓𐤔𐤕𐤌 𐤋𐤉 𐤇𐤍𐤌 𐤇𐤐𐤓𐤅 𐤔𐤇𐤕 𐤋𐤍𐤐𐤔𐤉
כִּֽי־ חִנָּ֣ם טָֽמְנוּ־ רִשְׁתָּ֑ם לִ֭י חִ֝נָּ֗ם חָפְר֥וּ שַׁ֣חַת לְנַפְשִֽׁי׃ kî- ḥin·nām ṭā·mə·nū- riš·tām lî ḥin·nām ḥā·p̄ə·rū ša·ḥaṯ lə·nap̄·šî — WLC · 7

May ruin befall them by surprise…; may the net they hid ensnare them; may they fall into the hazard [they created].

שׁוֹאָה֮ תְּבוֹאֵ֣הוּ לֹֽא־ יֵ֫דָ֥ע וְרִשְׁתּ֣וֹ אֲשֶׁר־ טָמַ֣ן תִּלְכְּד֑וֹ יִפָּל־ בָּֽהּ׃ בְּ֝שׁוֹאָ֗ה šō·w·’āh tə·ḇō·w·’ê·hū lō- yê·ḏā‘ wə·riš·tōw ’ă·šer- ṭā·man til·kə·ḏōw yip·pāl- bāh bə·šō·w·’āh — WLC · 8

Then my soul will rejoice in the LORD and exult in His salvation.

וְ֭נַפְשִׁי תָּגִ֣יל בַּיהוָ֑ה תָּ֝שִׂישׂ בִּישׁוּעָתֽוֹ׃ wə·nap̄·šî tā·ḡîl Yah·weh tā·śîś bî·šū·‘ā·ṯōw — WLC · 9

All my bones will exclaim, “Who is like You, O LORD, who delivers the afflicted from the aggressor, the poor and needy from the robber?”

כָּ֥ל עַצְמוֹתַ֨י׀ תֹּאמַרְנָה֮ מִ֥י כָ֫מ֥וֹךָ יְהוָ֗ה מַצִּ֣יל עָ֭נִי מִמֶּ֑נּוּ מֵחָזָ֣ק וְעָנִ֥י וְ֝אֶבְי֗וֹן מִגֹּזְלֽוֹ׃ kāl ‘aṣ·mō·w·ṯay tō·mar·nāh mî ḵā·mō·w·ḵā Yah·weh maṣ·ṣîl ‘ā·nî mim·men·nū mê·ḥā·zāq wə·‘ā·nî wə·’eḇ·yō·wn mig·gō·zə·lōw — WLC · 10

Hostile witnesses come forward; they make charges I know nothing {about}.

חָמָ֑ס עֵדֵ֣י יְ֭קוּמוּן יִשְׁאָלֽוּנִי׃ אֲשֶׁ֥ר יָ֝דַ֗עְתִּי לֹא־ ḥā·mās ‘ê·ḏê yə·qū·mūn yiš·’ā·lū·nî ’ă·šer yā·ḏa‘·tî lō- — WLC · 11

They repay me evil for good, [to] the bereavement of my soul.

יְשַׁלְּמ֣וּנִי רָ֭עָה תַּ֥חַת טוֹבָ֗ה שְׁכ֣וֹל לְנַפְשִֽׁי׃ yə·šal·lə·mū·nî rā·‘āh ta·ḥaṯ ṭō·w·ḇāh šə·ḵō·wl lə·nap̄·šî — WLC · 12

Yet when they were ill, I put on sackcloth; I humbled myself with fasting, but my prayers returned unanswered…

וַאֲנִ֤י׀ בַּחֲלוֹתָ֡ם לְב֬וּשִׁי שָׂ֗ק עִנֵּ֣יתִי נַפְשִׁ֑י בַצּ֣וֹם וּ֝תְפִלָּתִ֗י תָשֽׁוּב׃ עַל־ חֵיקִ֥י wa·’ă·nî ba·ḥă·lō·w·ṯām lə·ḇū·šî śāq ‘in·nê·ṯî nap̄·šî ḇaṣ·ṣō·wm ū·ṯə·p̄il·lā·ṯî ṯā·šūḇ ‘al- ḥê·qî — WLC · 13

I paced about as for my friend or brother I was bowed down with grief, like one mourning [for his] mother.

הִתְהַלָּ֑כְתִּי כְּרֵֽעַ־ כְּאָ֣ח לִ֭י שַׁחֽוֹתִי׃ קֹדֵ֥ר כַּאֲבֶל־ אֵ֝֗ם hiṯ·hal·lā·ḵə·tî kə·rê·a‘- kə·’āḥ lî ša·ḥō·w·ṯî qō·ḏêr ka·’ă·ḇel- ’êm — WLC · 14

But when I stumbled, they assembled in glee; they gathered together against me. Assailants I did not know slandered me without ceasing.

וּבְצַלְעִי֮ וְֽנֶאֱ֫סָ֥פוּ שָׂמְח֪וּ נֶאֶסְפ֬וּ עָלַ֣י נֵ֭כִים וְלֹ֣א יָדַ֑עְתִּי קָֽרְע֥וּ וְלֹא־ דָֽמּוּ׃ ū·ḇə·ṣal·‘î wə·ne·’ĕ·sā·p̄ū śā·mə·ḥū ne·’es·p̄ū ‘ā·lay nê·ḵîm wə·lō yā·ḏa‘·tî qā·rə·‘ū wə·lō- ḏām·mū — WLC · 15

Like godless jesters at a feast, they gnashed their teeth at me.

בְּ֭חַנְפֵי לַעֲגֵ֣י מָע֑וֹג חָרֹ֖ק שִׁנֵּֽימוֹ׃ עָלַ֣י bə·ḥan·p̄ê la·‘ă·ḡê mā·‘ō·wḡ ḥā·rōq šin·nê·mōw ‘ā·lay — WLC · 16
17
How long, O Lord, will You look on? Rescue my soul from their ravages, my precious life from these lions.

כַּמָּ֪ה אֲדֹנָי֮ תִּ֫רְאֶ֥ה הָשִׁ֣יבָה נַ֭פְשִׁי מִשֹּׁאֵיהֶ֑ם יְחִידָתִֽי׃ מִ֝כְּפִירִ֗ים kam·māh ’ă·ḏō·nāy tir·’eh hā·šî·ḇāh nap̄·šî miš·šō·’ê·hem yə·ḥî·ḏā·ṯî mik·kə·p̄î·rîm — WLC · 17

Then I will give You thanks in the great assembly; I will praise You among many people.

א֭וֹדְךָ רָ֑ב בְּקָהָ֣ל אֲהַֽלְלֶֽךָּ׃ עָצ֣וּם בְּעַ֖ם ’ō·wḏ·ḵā rāḇ bə·qā·hāl ’ă·hal·le·kā ‘ā·ṣūm bə·‘am — WLC · 18

Let not my enemies gloat over me without cause, [nor] those who hate me without reason wink in malice…
𐤀𐤋 𐤀𐤉𐤁𐤉 𐤉𐤔𐤌𐤇𐤅 𐤋𐤉 𐤔𐤒𐤓 𐤔𐤍𐤀𐤉 𐤇𐤍𐤌 𐤉𐤒𐤓𐤑𐤅 𐤏𐤉𐤍
אַֽל־ אֹיְבַ֣י יִשְׂמְחוּ־ לִ֣י שֶׁ֑קֶר שֹׂנְאַ֥י חִ֝נָּ֗ם יִקְרְצוּ־ עָֽיִן׃ ’al- ’ō·yə·ḇay yiś·mə·ḥū- lî še·qer śō·nə·’ay ḥin·nām yiq·rə·ṣū- ‘ā·yin — WLC · 19

For they do not speak peace, but they devise deceitful schemes against those who live quietly in the land.

כִּ֤י לֹ֥א יְדַ֫בֵּ֥רוּ שָׁל֗וֹם יַחֲשֹׁבֽוּן׃ מִ֝רְמוֹת דִּבְרֵ֥י וְעַ֥ל רִגְעֵי־ אֶ֑רֶץ kî lō yə·ḏab·bê·rū šā·lō·wm ya·ḥă·šō·ḇūn mir·mō·wṯ diḇ·rê wə·‘al riḡ·‘ê- ’e·reṣ — WLC · 20

They gape… at me and say, “Aha, aha! Our eyes have seen!”

פִּ֫יהֶ֥ם וַיַּרְחִ֥יבוּ עָלַ֗י אָ֭מְרוּ הֶאָ֣ח׀ הֶאָ֑ח עֵינֵֽינוּ׃ רָאֲתָ֥ה pî·hem way·yar·ḥî·ḇū ‘ā·lay ’ā·mə·rū he·’āḥ he·’āḥ ‘ê·nê·nū rā·’ă·ṯāh — WLC · 21

O LORD, You have seen it; be not silent. O Lord, be not far from me.

יְ֭הוָה רָאִ֣יתָה אַֽל־ תֶּחֱרַ֑שׁ אֲ֝דֹנָ֗י אֲל־ תִּרְחַ֥ק מִמֶּֽנִּי׃ Yah·weh rā·’î·ṯāh ’al- te·ḥĕ·raš ’ă·ḏō·nāy ’ăl- tir·ḥaq mim·men·nî — WLC · 22

Awake and rise to my defense, to my cause, my God and my Lord!
𐤄𐤏𐤉𐤓𐤄 𐤅𐤄𐤒𐤉𐤑𐤄 𐤋𐤌𐤔𐤐𐤈𐤉 𐤋𐤓𐤉𐤁𐤉 𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉 𐤅𐤀𐤃𐤍𐤉
הָעִ֣ירָה וְ֭הָקִיצָה לְמִשְׁפָּטִ֑י לְרִיבִֽי׃ אֱלֹהַ֖י וַֽאדֹנָ֣י hā·‘î·rāh wə·hā·qî·ṣāh lə·miš·pā·ṭî lə·rî·ḇî ’ĕ·lō·hay wa·ḏō·nāy — WLC · 23

Vindicate me by Your righteousness, O LORD my God, and do not let them gloat over me.
𐤔𐤐𐤈𐤍𐤉 𐤊𐤑𐤃𐤒𐤊 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉 𐤅𐤀𐤋 𐤉𐤔𐤌𐤇𐤅 𐤋𐤉
שָׁפְטֵ֣נִי כְ֭צִדְקְךָ יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהָ֗י וְאַל־ יִשְׂמְחוּ־ לִֽי׃ šā·p̄ə·ṭê·nî ḵə·ṣiḏ·qə·ḵā Yah·weh ’ĕ·lō·hāy wə·’al- yiś·mə·ḥū- lî — WLC · 24

Let them not say in their hearts, “Aha, just what we wanted!” Let them not say, “We have swallowed him up!”

אַל־ יֹאמְר֣וּ בְ֭לִבָּם הֶאָ֣ח נַפְשֵׁ֑נוּ אַל־ יֹ֝אמְר֗וּ בִּֽלַּעֲנֽוּהוּ׃ ’al- yō·mə·rū ḇə·lib·bām he·’āḥ nap̄·šê·nū ’al- yō·mə·rū bil·la·‘ă·nū·hū — WLC · 25

May those who gloat in my distress be ashamed and confounded…; may those who exalt themselves over me be clothed in shame and reproach.

שְׂמֵחֵ֪י רָעָ֫תִ֥י יֵ֘בֹ֤שׁוּ וְיַחְפְּר֨וּ׀ יַחְדָּו֮ הַֽמַּגְדִּילִ֥ים עָלָֽי׃ יִֽלְבְּשׁוּ־ בֹ֥שֶׁת וּכְלִמָּ֑ה śə·mê·ḥê rā·‘ā·ṯî yê·ḇō·šū wə·yaḥ·pə·rū yaḥ·dāw ham·maḡ·dî·lîm ‘ā·lāy yil·bə·šū- ḇō·šeṯ ū·ḵə·lim·māh — WLC · 26

May those who favor my vindication shout for joy and gladness; may they always say, “Exalted be the LORD who delights in His servant’s well-being.”

חֲפֵצֵ֪י צִ֫דְקִ֥י יָרֹ֣נּוּ וְיִשְׂמְחוּ֮ תָ֭מִיד וְיֹאמְר֣וּ יִגְדַּ֣ל יְהוָ֑ה הֶ֝חָפֵ֗ץ עַבְדּֽוֹ׃ שְׁל֣וֹם ḥă·p̄ê·ṣê ṣiḏ·qî yā·rōn·nū wə·yiś·mə·ḥū ṯā·mîḏ wə·yō·mə·rū yiḡ·dal Yah·weh he·ḥā·p̄êṣ ‘aḇ·dōw šə·lō·wm — WLC · 27

Then my tongue will proclaim Your righteousness [and] Your praises all day long.
