Chapter 138
A Thankful Heart

Of David. 1I give You thanks with all my heart; before the gods I sing Your praises.
𐤋𐤃𐤅𐤃 𐤀𐤅𐤃𐤊 𐤁𐤊𐤋 𐤋𐤁𐤉 𐤍𐤂𐤃 𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 𐤀𐤆𐤌𐤓𐤊
לְדָוִ֨ד׀ אוֹדְךָ֥ בְכָל־ לִבִּ֑י נֶ֖גֶד אֱלֹהִ֣ים אֲזַמְּרֶֽךָּ׃ lə·ḏā·wiḏ ’ō·wḏ·ḵā ḇə·ḵāl- lib·bî ne·ḡeḏ ’ĕ·lō·hîm ’ă·zam·mə·re·kā — WLC · 1

I bow down toward Your holy temple and give thanks to Your name for Your loving devotion and Your faithfulness; You have exalted Your name and Your word above all else.

אֶשְׁתַּחֲוֶ֨ה אֶל־ קָדְשְׁךָ֡ הֵיכַ֪ל וְא֘וֹדֶ֤ה אֶת־ שְׁמֶ֗ךָ עַל־ חַסְדְּךָ֥ וְעַל־ אֲמִתֶּ֑ךָ כִּֽי־ הִגְדַּ֥לְתָּ שִׁ֝מְךָ֗ אִמְרָתֶֽךָ׃ עַל־ כָּל־ ’eš·ta·ḥă·weh ’el- qāḏ·šə·ḵā hê·ḵal wə·’ō·w·ḏeh ’eṯ- šə·me·ḵā ‘al- ḥas·də·ḵā wə·‘al- ’ă·mit·te·ḵā kî- hiḡ·dal·tā šim·k̲ā ’im·rā·ṯe·ḵā ‘al- kā·lō·ši- — WLC · 2

On the day I called, You answered me; You emboldened me [and] strengthened my soul.

בְּי֣וֹם קָ֭רָֽאתִי וַֽתַּעֲנֵ֑נִי תַּרְהִבֵ֖נִי עֹֽז׃ בְנַפְשִׁ֣י bə·yō·wm qā·rā·ṯî wat·ta·‘ă·nê·nî tar·hi·ḇê·nî ‘ōz ḇə·nap̄·šî — WLC · 3

All the kings of the earth will give You thanks, O LORD, when they hear the words of Your mouth.
𐤊𐤋 𐤌𐤋𐤊𐤉 𐤀𐤓𐤑 𐤉𐤅𐤃𐤅𐤊 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤊𐤉 𐤔𐤌𐤏𐤅 𐤀𐤌𐤓𐤉 𐤐𐤉𐤊
כָּל־ מַלְכֵי־ אָ֑רֶץ יוֹד֣וּךָ יְ֭הוָה כִּ֥י שָׁ֝מְע֗וּ אִמְרֵי־ פִֽיךָ׃ kāl- mal·ḵê- ’ā·reṣ yō·w·ḏū·ḵā Yah·weh kî šā·mə·ʿû ’im·rê- p̄î·ḵā — WLC · 4

They will sing of the ways of the LORD, for the glory of the LORD is great.
𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤉𐤓𐤅 𐤁𐤃𐤓𐤊𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤊𐤉 𐤊𐤁𐤅𐤃 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤂𐤃𐤅𐤋
וְ֭יָשִׁירוּ בְּדַרְכֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה כִּ֥י כְּב֣וֹד יְהוָֽה׃ גָ֝ד֗וֹל wə·yā·šî·rū bə·ḏar·ḵê Yah·weh kî kə·ḇō·wḏ Yah·weh ḡā·ḏō·wl — WLC · 5

Though the LORD is on high, He attends to the lowly; but the proud He knows from afar.
𐤊𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤓𐤌 𐤉𐤓𐤀𐤄 𐤅𐤔𐤐𐤋 𐤅𐤂𐤁𐤄 𐤉𐤉𐤃𐤏 𐤌𐤌𐤓𐤇𐤒
כִּי־ יְ֭הוָה רָ֣ם יִרְאֶ֑ה וְשָׁפָ֣ל וְ֝גָבֹ֗הַּ יְיֵדָֽע׃ מִמֶּרְחָ֥ק kî- Yah·weh rām yir·’eh wə·šā·p̄āl wə·ḡā·ḇō·ah yə·yê·ḏā‘ mim·mer·ḥāq — WLC · 6

If I walk in the midst of trouble, You preserve me from the anger of my foes; You extend Your hand, and Your right hand saves me.

אִם־ אֵלֵ֤ךְ׀ בְּקֶ֥רֶב צָרָ֗ה תְּחַ֫יֵּ֥נִי עַ֤ל אַ֣ף אֹ֭יְבַי תִּשְׁלַ֣ח יָדֶ֑ךָ יְמִינֶֽךָ׃ וְת֖וֹשִׁיעֵ֣נִי ’im- ’ê·lêḵ bə·qe·reḇ ṣā·rāh tə·ḥay·yê·nî ‘al ’ap̄ ’ō·yə·ḇay tiš·laḥ yā·ḏe·ḵā yə·mî·ne·ḵā wə·ṯō·wō·šî·‘ê·nî — WLC · 7

The LORD will fulfill [His purpose] for me. O LORD, Your loving devotion endures forever— do not abandon the works of Your hands.
