Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem

A song of ascents. Of David. 1I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the LORD.”

שִׁ֥יר הַֽמַּעֲל֗וֹת לְדָ֫וִ֥ד שָׂ֭מַחְתִּי בְּאֹמְרִ֣ים לִ֑י נֵלֵֽךְ׃ בֵּ֖ית יְהוָ֣ה šîr ham·ma·‘ă·lō·wṯ lə·ḏā·wiḏ śā·maḥ·tî bə·’ō·mə·rîm lî nê·lêḵ bêṯ Yah·weh — WLC · 1

Our feet are standing… in your gates, O Jerusalem.

Jerusalem is built up as a city united together,
𐤉𐤓𐤅𐤔𐤋𐤌 𐤄𐤁𐤍𐤅𐤉𐤄 𐤊𐤏𐤉𐤓 𐤔𐤇𐤁𐤓𐤄 𐤋𐤄 𐤉𐤇𐤃𐤅
יְרוּשָׁלִַ֥ם הַבְּנוּיָ֑ה כְּ֝עִ֗יר שֶׁחֻבְּרָה־ לָּ֥הּ יַחְדָּֽו׃ yə·rū·šā·lim hab·bə·nū·yāh kə·‘îr še·ḥub·bə·rāh- lāh yaḥ·dāw — WLC · 3

where the tribes go up, the tribes of the LORD, as a testimony for Israel, to give thanks to the name of the LORD.

שֶׁשָּׁ֨ם שְׁבָטִ֡ים עָל֪וּ שִׁבְטֵי־ יָ֭הּ עֵד֣וּת לְיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל לְ֝הֹד֗וֹת לְשֵׁ֣ם יְהוָֽה׃ šeš·šām šə·ḇā·ṭîm ‘ā·lū šiḇ·ṭê- yāh ‘ê·ḏūṯ lə·yiś·rā·’êl lə·hō·ḏō·wṯ lə·šêm Yah·weh — WLC · 4

For there the thrones of judgment stand, the thrones of the house of David.

כִּ֤י שָׁ֨מָּה׀ כִסְא֣וֹת לְמִשְׁפָּ֑ט יָשְׁב֣וּ כִּ֝סְא֗וֹת לְבֵ֣ית דָּוִֽיד׃ kî šām·māh ḵis·’ō·wṯ lə·miš·pāṭ yā·šə·ḇū kis·’ō·wṯ lə·ḇêṯ dā·wîḏ — WLC · 5

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May those who love you prosper.
𐤔𐤀𐤋𐤅 𐤔𐤋𐤅𐤌 𐤉𐤓𐤅𐤔𐤋𐤌 𐤀𐤄𐤁𐤉𐤊 𐤉𐤔𐤋𐤉𐤅
שַׁ֭אֲלוּ שְׁל֣וֹם יְרוּשָׁלִָ֑ם אֹהֲבָֽיִךְ׃ יִ֝שְׁלָ֗יוּ ša·ʾă·lû šə·lō·wm yə·rū·šā·lim ’ō·hă·ḇā·yiḵ yiš·lā·yū — WLC · 6

May there be peace within your walls, [and] prosperity inside your fortresses.”
𐤉𐤄𐤉 𐤔𐤋𐤅𐤌 𐤁𐤇𐤉𐤋𐤊 𐤔𐤋𐤅𐤄 𐤁𐤀𐤓𐤌𐤍𐤅𐤕𐤉𐤊
יְהִֽי־ שָׁל֥וֹם בְּחֵילֵ֑ךְ שַׁ֝לְוָ֗ה בְּאַרְמְנוֹתָֽיִךְ׃ yə·hî- šā·lō·wm bə·ḥê·lêḵ šal·wāh bə·’ar·mə·nō·w·ṯā·yiḵ — WLC · 7

For the sake of my brothers and friends, I will say,… “Peace [be] within you.”

לְ֭מַעַן אַחַ֣י וְרֵעָ֑י אֲדַבְּרָה־ נָּ֖א שָׁל֣וֹם בָּֽךְ׃ lə·ma·‘an ’a·ḥay wə·rê·‘āy ’ă·ḏab·bə·rāh- nā šā·lō·wm bāḵ — WLC · 8

For the sake of the house of the LORD our God, I will seek your prosperity

לְ֭מַעַן בֵּית־ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵ֑ינוּ אֲבַקְשָׁ֖ה ט֣וֹב לָֽךְ׃ lə·ma·‘an bêṯ- Yah·weh ’ĕ·lō·hê·nū ’ă·ḇaq·šāh ṭō·wḇ lāḵ — WLC · 9
