Chapter 112
The Blessed Fear of the LORD

Hallelujah…! Blessed is the man who fears the LORD, who greatly delights in His commandments.

הַ֥לְלוּ יָ֨הּ׀ אַשְׁרֵי־ אִ֭ישׁ יָרֵ֣א אֶת־ יְהוָ֑ה מְאֹֽד׃ חָפֵ֥ץ בְּ֝מִצְוֺתָ֗יו hal·lū yāh ’aš·rê- ’îš yā·rê ’eṯ- Yah·weh mə·’ōḏ ḥā·p̄êṣ bə·miṣ·wō·ṯāw — WLC · 1

His descendants will be mighty in the land; the generation of the upright will be blessed.

Wealth and riches are in his house, and his righteousness endures forever.

Light dawns in the darkness for the upright— for the gracious, compassionate, and righteous.

א֭וֹר זָ֘רַ֤ח בַּחֹ֣שֶׁךְ לַיְשָׁרִ֑ים חַנּ֖וּן וְרַח֣וּם וְצַדִּֽיק׃ ’ō·wr zā·raḥ ba·ḥō·šeḵ lay·šā·rîm ḥan·nūn wə·ra·ḥūm wə·ṣad·dîq — WLC · 4

It is well with the man who is generous and lends freely, whose affairs are guided by justice.

טֽוֹב־ אִ֭ישׁ חוֹנֵ֣ן וּמַלְוֶ֑ה דְּבָרָ֣יו יְכַלְכֵּ֖ל בְּמִשְׁפָּֽט׃ ṭō·wḇ- ’îš ḥō·w·nên ū·mal·weh də·ḇā·rāw yə·ḵal·kêl bə·miš·pāṭ — WLC · 5

Surely he will never… be shaken; the righteous man will be remembered forever.

כִּֽי־ לְעוֹלָ֥ם לֹא־ יִמּ֑וֹט צַדִּֽיק׃ יִהְיֶ֥ה לְזֵ֥כֶר ע֝וֹלָ֗ם kî- lə·‘ō·w·lām lō- yim·mō·wṭ ṣad·dîq yih·yeh lə·zê·ḵer ‘ō·w·lām — WLC · 6

He does not fear bad news; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD.

לֹ֣א יִירָ֑א רָ֭עָה מִשְּׁמוּעָ֣ה לִ֝בּ֗וֹ נָכ֥וֹן בָּטֻ֥חַ בַּיהוָֽה׃ lō yî·rā rā·‘āh miš·šə·mū·‘āh lib·bōw nā·ḵō·wn bā·ṭu·aḥ Yah·weh — WLC · 7

His heart is assured; he does not fear, until he looks in triumph on his foes.

לִ֭בּוֹ סָמ֣וּךְ לֹ֣א יִירָ֑א עַ֖ד אֲשֶׁר־ יִרְאֶ֣ה בְצָרָֽיו׃ lib·bōw sā·mūḵ lō yî·rā ‘aḏ ’ă·šer- yir·’eh ḇə·ṣā·rāw — WLC · 8

He has scattered abroad his gifts to the poor; his righteousness endures forever; his horn will be lifted high in honor.

פִּזַּ֤ר׀ נָ֘תַ֤ן לָאֶבְיוֹנִ֗ים צִ֭דְקָתוֹ עֹמֶ֣דֶת לָעַ֑ד קַ֝רְנ֗וֹ תָּר֥וּם בְּכָבֽוֹד׃ piz·zar nā·ṯan lā·’eḇ·yō·w·nîm ṣiḏ·qā·ṯōw ‘ō·me·ḏeṯ lā·‘aḏ qar·nōw tā·rūm bə·ḵā·ḇō·wḏ — WLC · 9

The wicked man will see and be grieved; he will gnash his teeth and waste away; the desires of the wicked will perish.
