I Will Set No Worthless Thing before My Eyes

A Psalm of David. 1I will sing of [Your] loving devotion and justice; to You, O LORD, I will sing praises.

I will ponder the way that is blameless— when will You come to me? I will walk in my house with integrity of heart.

אַשְׂכִּ֤ילָה׀ בְּדֶ֬רֶךְ תָּמִ֗ים מָ֭תַי תָּב֣וֹא אֵלָ֑י אֶתְהַלֵּ֥ךְ בְּקֶ֣רֶב בֵּיתִֽי׃ בְּתָם־ לְ֝בָבִ֗י ’aś·kî·lāh bə·ḏe·reḵ tā·mîm mā·ṯay tā·ḇō·w ’ê·lāy ’eṯ·hal·lêḵ bə·qe·reḇ bê·ṯî bə·ṯām- lə·ḇā·ḇî — WLC · 2

I will set no worthless thing before my eyes. I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not cling to me.

לֹֽא־ אָשִׁ֨ית׀ דְּֽבַר־ בְּלִ֫יָּ֥עַל לְנֶ֥גֶד עֵינַ֗י שָׂנֵ֑אתִי עֲשֹֽׂה־ סֵטִ֥ים לֹ֖א יִדְבַּ֣ק בִּֽי׃ lō- ’ā·šîṯ də·ḇar- bə·lî·yā·‘al lə·ne·ḡeḏ ‘ê·nay śā·nê·ṯî ‘ă·śōh- sê·ṭîm lō yiḏ·baq bî — WLC · 3

A perverse heart shall depart from me; I will know nothing of evil.

עִ֭קֵּשׁ לֵבָ֣ב יָס֣וּר מִמֶּ֑נִּי אֵדָֽע׃ לֹ֣א רָ֝֗ע ‘iq·qêš lê·ḇāḇ yā·sūr mim·men·nî ’ê·ḏā‘ lō rā‘ — WLC · 4

Whoever slanders his neighbor in secret, vvv I will put to silence; the one with haughty eyes and a proud heart, I will not endure.

מְלוֹשְׁנִי רֵעֵהוּ֮ בַסֵּ֨תֶר׀ אוֹת֪וֹ אַ֫צְמִ֥ית גְּֽבַהּ־ עֵ֭ינַיִם וּרְחַ֣ב לֵבָ֑ב אֹ֝ת֗וֹ לֹ֣א אוּכָֽל׃ mə·lō·šə·nī rê·‘ê·hū ḇas·sê·ṯer ’ō·w·ṯōw ’aṣ·mîṯ gə·ḇah- ‘ê·na·yim ū·rə·ḥaḇ lê·ḇāḇ ’ō·ṯōw lō ’ū·ḵāl — WLC · 5

My eyes [favor] the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me; he who walks in the way of integrity… shall minister to me.

עֵינַ֤י׀ בְּנֶֽאֶמְנֵי־ אֶרֶץ֮ לָשֶׁ֪בֶת עִמָּ֫דִ֥י הֹ֭לֵךְ בְּדֶ֣רֶךְ תָּמִ֑ים ה֝֗וּא יְשָׁרְתֵֽנִי׃ ‘ê·nay bə·ne·’em·nê- ’e·reṣ lā·še·ḇeṯ ‘im·mā·ḏî hō·lêḵ bə·ḏe·reḵ tā·mîm hū yə·šā·rə·ṯê·nî — WLC · 6

No one who practices deceit shall dwell in my house; no one who tells lies shall stand… in my presence.

לֹֽא־ עֹשֵׂ֪ה רְמִ֫יָּ֥ה יֵשֵׁ֨ב׀ בְּקֶ֥רֶב בֵּיתִי֮ לֹֽא־ דֹּבֵ֥ר שְׁקָרִ֑ים יִ֝כּ֗וֹן לְנֶ֣גֶד עֵינָֽי׃ lō- ‘ō·śêh rə·mî·yāh yê·šêḇ bə·qe·reḇ bê·ṯî lō- dō·ḇêr šə·qā·rîm yik·kō·wn lə·ne·ḡeḏ ‘ê·nāy — WLC · 7

Every morning I will remove all the wicked of the land, that I may cut off every evildoer… from the city of the LORD.

לַבְּקָרִ֗ים אַצְמִ֥ית כָּל־ רִשְׁעֵי־ אָ֑רֶץ לְהַכְרִ֥ית כָּל־ פֹּ֥עֲלֵי אָֽוֶן׃ מֵֽעִיר־ יְ֝הוָ֗ה lab·bə·qā·rîm ’aṣ·mîṯ kāl- riš·‘ê- ’ā·reṣ lə·haḵ·rîṯ kāl- pō·‘ă·lê ’ā·wen mê·‘îr- Yah·weh — WLC · 8
