Chapter 6
Solomon Blesses the LORD
1
Then Solomon declared: “The LORD has said that He would dwell in the thick cloud.
𐤀𐤆 𐤔𐤋𐤌𐤄 𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤋𐤔𐤊𐤅𐤍 𐤁𐤏𐤓𐤐𐤋
אָ֖ז שְׁלֹמֹ֑ה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֣ה אָמַ֔ר לִשְׁכּ֖וֹן בָּעֲרָפֶֽל׃ ’āz šə·lō·mōh ’ā·mar Yah·weh ’ā·mar liš·kō·wn bā·‘ă·rā·p̄el — WLC · 1
2
But I have built You an exalted house, a place for You to dwell forever.”

וַֽאֲנִ֛י בָּנִ֥יתִי לָ֑ךְ זְבֻ֖ל בֵית־ וּמָכ֥וֹן לְשִׁבְתְּךָ֖ עוֹלָמִֽים׃ wa·’ă·nî bā·nî·ṯî lāḵ zə·ḇul ḇêṯ- ū·mā·ḵō·wn lə·šiḇ·tə·ḵā ‘ō·w·lā·mîm — WLC · 2

And as the whole assembly of Israel stood [there], the king - turned around and blessed [them] all…
𐤅𐤊𐤋 𐤒𐤄𐤋 𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 𐤏𐤅𐤌𐤃 𐤄𐤌𐤋𐤊 𐤀𐤕 𐤐𐤍𐤉𐤅 𐤅𐤉𐤎𐤁 𐤅𐤉𐤁𐤓𐤊 𐤀𐤕 𐤊𐤋 𐤒𐤄𐤋 𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋
וְכָל־ קְהַ֥ל יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל עוֹמֵֽד׃ הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ אֶת־ פָּנָ֔יו וַיַּסֵּ֤ב וַיְבָ֕רֶךְ אֵ֖ת כָּל־ קְהַ֣ל יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל wə·ḵāl qə·hal yiś·rā·’êl ‘ō·w·mêḏ ham·me·leḵ ’eṯ- pā·nāw way·yas·sêḇ way·ḇā·reḵ ’êṯ kāl- qə·hal yiś·rā·’êl — WLC · 3

and said: “Blessed [be] the LORD, the God of Israel, [who] has fulfilled with His own hand what He spoke with His mouth to my father David, saying,
𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤁𐤓𐤅𐤊 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉 𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤌𐤋𐤀 𐤅𐤁𐤉𐤃𐤉𐤅 𐤃𐤁𐤓 𐤁𐤐𐤉𐤅 𐤀𐤕 𐤀𐤁𐤉 𐤃𐤅𐤉𐤃 𐤋𐤀𐤌𐤓
וַיֹּ֗אמֶר בָּר֤וּךְ יְהוָה֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֲשֶׁר֙ מִלֵּ֖א וּבְיָדָ֥יו דִּבֶּ֣ר בְּפִ֔יו אֵ֖ת אָבִ֑י דָּוִ֣יד לֵאמֹֽר׃ way·yō·mer bā·rūḵ Yah·weh ’ĕ·lō·hê yiś·rā·’êl ’ă·šer mil·lê ū·ḇə·yā·ḏāw dib·ber bə·p̄îw ’êṯ ’ā·ḇî dā·wîḏ lê·mōr — WLC · 4

‘Since the day I brought My people out of the land of Egypt, I have not chosen a city from any tribe of Israel [in which] to build a house so that My Name would be there, nor have I chosen anyone to be ruler over My people Israel.
𐤌𐤍 𐤄𐤉𐤅𐤌 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤄𐤅𐤑𐤀𐤕𐤉 𐤏𐤌𐤉 𐤀𐤕 𐤌𐤀𐤓𐤑 𐤌𐤑𐤓𐤉𐤌 𐤋𐤀 𐤁𐤇𐤓𐤕𐤉 𐤁𐤏𐤉𐤓 𐤌𐤊𐤋 𐤔𐤁𐤈𐤉 𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 𐤋𐤁𐤍𐤅𐤕 𐤁𐤉𐤕 𐤔𐤌𐤉 𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤅𐤕 𐤔𐤌 𐤅𐤋𐤀 𐤁𐤇𐤓𐤕𐤉 𐤁𐤀𐤉𐤔 𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤅𐤕 𐤍𐤂𐤉𐤃 𐤏𐤋 𐤏𐤌𐤉 𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋
מִן־ הַיּ֗וֹם אֲשֶׁ֨ר הוֹצֵ֣אתִי עַמִּי֮ אֶת־ מֵאֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרַיִם֒ לֹא־ בָחַ֣רְתִּֽי בְעִ֗יר מִכֹּל֙ שִׁבְטֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל לִבְנ֣וֹת בַּ֔יִת שְׁמִ֖י לִהְי֥וֹת שָׁ֑ם וְלֹא־ בָחַ֣רְתִּֽי בְאִ֔ישׁ לִהְי֥וֹת נָגִ֖יד עַל־ עַמִּ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ min- hay·yō·wm ’ă·šer hō·w·ṣê·ṯî ‘am·mî ’eṯ- mê·’e·reṣ miṣ·ra·yim lō- ḇā·ḥar·tî ḇə·‘îr mik·kōl šiḇ·ṭê yiś·rā·’êl liḇ·nō·wṯ ba·yiṯ šə·mî lih·yō·wṯ šām wə·lō- ḇā·ḥar·tî ḇə·’îš lih·yō·wṯ nā·ḡîḏ ‘al- ‘am·mî yiś·rā·’êl — WLC · 5

But now I have chosen Jerusalem for My Name to be there, and I have chosen David to be over My people Israel.’

וָאֶבְחַר֙ בִּיר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם שְׁמִ֖י לִהְי֥וֹת שָׁ֑ם וָאֶבְחַ֣ר בְּדָוִ֔יד לִהְי֖וֹת עַל־ עַמִּ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ wā·’eḇ·ḥar bî·rū·šā·lim šə·mî lih·yō·wṯ šām wā·’eḇ·ḥar bə·ḏā·wîḏ lih·yō·wṯ ‘al- ‘am·mî yiś·rā·’êl — WLC · 6

Now it was in the heart of my father David to build a house for the Name of the LORD, the God of Israel.

וַיְהִ֕י עִם־ לְבַ֖ב אָבִ֑י דָּוִ֣יד לִבְנ֣וֹת בַּ֔יִת לְשֵׁ֥ם יְהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ way·hî ‘im- lə·ḇaḇ ’ā·ḇî dā·wîḏ liḇ·nō·wṯ ba·yiṯ lə·šêm Yah·weh ’ĕ·lō·hê yiś·rā·’êl — WLC · 7

But the LORD said to my father David, ‘Since it was in your heart to build a house for My Name, you have done well to have this… in your heart.
𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤀𐤋 𐤀𐤁𐤉 𐤃𐤅𐤉𐤃 𐤉𐤏𐤍 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤄𐤉𐤄 𐤏𐤌 𐤋𐤁𐤁𐤊 𐤋𐤁𐤍𐤅𐤕 𐤁𐤉𐤕 𐤋𐤔𐤌𐤉 𐤄𐤈𐤉𐤁𐤅𐤕 𐤊𐤉 𐤄𐤉𐤄 𐤏𐤌 𐤋𐤁𐤁𐤊
יְהוָה֙ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֶל־ אָבִ֔י דָּוִ֣יד יַ֗עַן אֲשֶׁ֤ר הָיָה֙ עִם־ לְבָ֣בְךָ֔ לִבְנ֥וֹת בַּ֖יִת לִשְׁמִ֑י הֱֽטִיב֔וֹתָ כִּ֥י הָיָ֖ה עִם־ לְבָבֶֽךָ׃ Yah·weh way·yō·mer ’el- ’ā·ḇî dā·wîḏ ya·‘an ’ă·šer hā·yāh ‘im- lə·ḇā·ḇə·ḵā liḇ·nō·wṯ ba·yiṯ liš·mî hĕṭî·ḇō·w·ṯā kî hā·yāh ‘im- lə·ḇā·ḇe·ḵā — WLC · 8

Nevertheless, you are not the one to build [it]…; but your son, your own offspring…, will build the house for My Name.’
𐤓𐤒 𐤀𐤕𐤄 𐤋𐤀 𐤕𐤁𐤍𐤄 𐤄𐤁𐤉𐤕 𐤊𐤉 𐤁𐤍𐤊 𐤄𐤉𐤅𐤑𐤀 𐤌𐤇𐤋𐤑𐤉𐤊 𐤄𐤅𐤀 𐤉𐤁𐤍𐤄 𐤄𐤁𐤉𐤕 𐤋𐤔𐤌𐤉
רַ֣ק אַתָּ֔ה לֹ֥א תִבְנֶ֖ה הַבָּ֑יִת כִּ֤י בִנְךָ֙ הַיּוֹצֵ֣א מֵֽחֲלָצֶ֔יךָ הֽוּא־ יִבְנֶ֥ה הַבַּ֖יִת לִשְׁמִֽי׃ raq ’at·tāh lō ṯiḇ·neh hab·bā·yiṯ kî ḇin·ḵā hay·yō·w·ṣê mê·ḥă·lā·ṣe·ḵā hū- yiḇ·neh hab·ba·yiṯ liš·mî — WLC · 9

Now the LORD has fulfilled the word that He spoke. I have succeeded… my father David, and I sit on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised. I have built the house for the Name of the LORD, the God of Israel.
𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤕 𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤌 𐤃𐤁𐤓𐤅 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤃𐤁𐤓 𐤅𐤀𐤒𐤅𐤌 𐤕𐤇𐤕 𐤀𐤁𐤉 𐤃𐤅𐤉𐤃 𐤅𐤀𐤔𐤁 𐤏𐤋 𐤊𐤎𐤀 𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 𐤊𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤃𐤁𐤓 𐤅𐤀𐤁𐤍𐤄 𐤄𐤁𐤉𐤕 𐤋𐤔𐤌 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉 𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋
יְהוָ֔ה אֶת־ וַיָּ֣קֶם דְּבָר֖וֹ אֲשֶׁ֣ר דִּבֵּ֑ר וָאָק֡וּם תַּחַת֩ אָבִ֜י דָּוִ֨יד וָאֵשֵׁ֣ב׀ עַל־ כִּסֵּ֣א יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל כַּאֲשֶׁר֙ יְהוָ֔ה דִּבֶּ֣ר וָאֶבְנֶ֣ה הַבַּ֔יִת לְשֵׁ֥ם יְהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ Yah·weh ’eṯ- way·yā·qem də·ḇā·rōw ’ă·šer dib·bêr wā·’ā·qūm ta·ḥaṯ ’ā·ḇî dā·wîḏ wā·’ê·šêḇ ‘al- kis·sê yiś·rā·’êl ka·’ă·šer Yah·weh dib·ber wā·’eḇ·neh hab·ba·yiṯ lə·šêm Yah·weh ’ĕ·lō·hê yiś·rā·’êl — WLC · 10

And there I have placed… the ark, which contains the covenant of the LORD that He made with the children of Israel.”

וָאָשִׂ֥ים שָׁם֙ אֶת־ הָ֣אָר֔וֹן שָׁ֖ם אֲשֶׁ֥ר בְּרִ֣ית יְהוָ֑ה אֲשֶׁר־ כָּרַ֖ת עִם־ בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ wā·’ā·śîm šām ’eṯ- hā·’ā·rō·wn šām ’ă·šer bə·rîṯ Yah·weh ’ă·šer- kā·raṯ ‘im- bə·nê yiś·rā·’êl — WLC · 11
Solomon’s Prayer of Dedication

Then [Solomon] stood before the altar of the LORD in front of the whole assembly of Israel and spread out his hands.
𐤅𐤉𐤏𐤌𐤃 𐤋𐤐𐤍𐤉 𐤌𐤆𐤁𐤇 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤍𐤂𐤃 𐤊𐤋 𐤒𐤄𐤋 𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 𐤅𐤉𐤐𐤓𐤔 𐤊𐤐𐤉𐤅
וַֽיַּעֲמֹ֗ד לִפְנֵי֙ מִזְבַּ֣ח יְהוָ֔ה נֶ֖גֶד כָּל־ קְהַ֣ל יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַיִּפְרֹ֖שׂ כַּפָּֽיו׃ way·ya·‘ă·mōḏ lip̄·nê miz·baḥ Yah·weh ne·ḡeḏ kāl- qə·hal yiś·rā·’êl way·yip̄·rōś kap·pāw — WLC · 12

Now Solomon had made a bronze platform five cubits long, five cubits wide, and three cubits high and had placed it in the middle of the courtyard. He stood on it, knelt down… before the whole assembly of Israel, spread out his hands toward heaven,

כִּֽי־ שְׁלֹמֹ֜ה עָשָׂ֨ה נְחֹ֗שֶׁת כִּיּ֣וֹר חָמֵ֨שׁ אַמּ֜וֹת אָרְכּ֗וֹ וְחָמֵ֤שׁ אַמּוֹת֙ רָחְבּ֔וֹ שָׁל֖וֹשׁ וְאַמּ֥וֹת קוֹמָת֑וֹ וַֽיִּתְּנֵהוּ֮ בְּת֣וֹךְ הָעֲזָרָה֒ וַיַּעֲמֹ֣ד עָלָ֗יו וַיִּבְרַ֤ךְ עַל־ בִּרְכָּיו֙ נֶ֚גֶד כָּל־ קְהַ֣ל יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וַיִּפְרֹ֥שׂ כַּפָּ֖יו הַשָּׁמָֽיְמָה׃ kî- šə·lō·mōh ‘ā·śāh nə·ḥō·šeṯ kî·yō·wr ḥā·mêš ’am·mō·wṯ ’ā·rə·kōw wə·ḥā·mêš ’am·mō·wṯ rā·ḥə·bōw šā·lō·wōš wə·’am·mō·wṯ qō·w·mā·ṯōw way·yit·tə·nê·hū bə·ṯō·wḵ hā·‘ă·zā·rāh way·ya·‘ă·mōḏ ‘ā·lāw way·yiḇ·raḵ ‘al- bir·kāw ne·ḡeḏ kāl- qə·hal yiś·rā·’êl way·yip̄·rōś kap·pāw haš·šā·mā·yə·māh — WLC · 13

and said: “O LORD, God of Israel, there is no God like You in heaven or on earth, keeping [Your] covenant of loving devotion with Your servants who walk before You with all their hearts.
𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉 𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 𐤀𐤉𐤍 𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 𐤊𐤌𐤅𐤊 𐤁𐤔𐤌𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤁𐤀𐤓𐤑 𐤔𐤌𐤓 𐤄𐤁𐤓𐤉𐤕 𐤅𐤄𐤇𐤎𐤃 𐤋𐤏𐤁𐤃𐤉𐤊 𐤄𐤄𐤋𐤊𐤉𐤌 𐤋𐤐𐤍𐤉𐤊 𐤁𐤊𐤋 𐤋𐤁𐤌
וַיֹּאמַ֗ר יְהוָ֞ה אֱלֹהֵ֤י יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ אֵין־ אֱלֹהִ֔ים כָּמ֣וֹךָ בַּשָּׁמַ֖יִם וּבָאָ֑רֶץ שֹׁמֵ֤ר הַבְּרִית֙ וְֽהַחֶ֔סֶד לַעֲבָדֶ֕יךָ הַהֹלְכִ֥ים לְפָנֶ֖יךָ בְּכָל־ לִבָּֽם׃ way·yō·mar Yah·weh ’ĕ·lō·hê yiś·rā·’êl ’ên- ’ĕ·lō·hîm kā·mō·w·ḵā baš·šā·ma·yim ū·ḇā·’ā·reṣ šō·mêr hab·bə·rîṯ wə·ha·ḥe·seḏ la·‘ă·ḇā·ḏe·ḵā ha·hō·lə·ḵîm lə·p̄ā·ne·ḵā bə·ḵāl lib·bām — WLC · 14

You have kept Your promise to Your servant, my father - David. What You spoke with Your mouth You have fulfilled with Your hand this day.

שָׁמַ֗רְתָּ אֲשֶׁ֣ר דִּבַּ֖רְתָּ ל֑וֹ לְעַבְדְּךָ֙ אָבִ֔י אֵ֥ת אֲשֶׁר־ דָּוִ֣יד וַתְּדַבֵּ֥ר בְּפִ֛יךָ מִלֵּ֖אתָ וּבְיָדְךָ֥ הַזֶּֽה׃ כַּיּ֥וֹם šā·mar·tā ’ă·šer dib·bar·tā lōw lə·‘aḇ·də·ḵā ’ā·ḇî ’êṯ ’ă·šer- dā·wîḏ wat·tə·ḏab·bêr bə·p̄î·ḵā mil·lê·ṯā ū·ḇə·yā·ḏə·ḵā haz·zeh kay·yō·wm — WLC · 15

Therefore now, O LORD, God of Israel, keep for Your servant, my father David, what You promised when You said: ‘You will never fail to have a man to sit before Me on the throne of Israel, if only your descendants guard their way to walk in My law as you have walked before Me.’

But will God indeed dwell with man upon the earth? The heavens, even the highest heavens…, cannot contain You, much less… this temple I have built.

Yet regard the prayer and plea of Your servant, O LORD my God, so that You may hear… the cry… and the prayer that Your servant is praying before You.

May Your eyes be open toward this temple day and night, toward the place where You said You would put Your Name -, so that You may hear the prayer that Your servant prays toward this place.

When a man sins against his neighbor and is required to take an oath…, and he comes to take an oath before Your altar in this temple,

אִם־ אִישׁ֙ יֶחֱטָ֥א לְרֵעֵ֔הוּ וְנָֽשָׁא־ ב֥וֹ אָלָ֖ה אָלָ֛ה וּבָ֗א לְהַֽאֲלֹת֑וֹ לִפְנֵ֥י מִֽזְבַּחֲךָ֖ הַזֶּֽה׃ בַּבַּ֥יִת ’im- ’îš ye·ḥĕ·ṭā lə·rê·‘ê·hū wə·nā·šā- ḇōw ’ā·lāh ’ā·lāh ū·ḇā lə·ha·’ă·lō·ṯōw lip̄·nê miz·ba·ḥă·ḵā haz·zeh bab·ba·yiṯ — WLC · 22

then may You hear from heaven and act. May You judge Your servants, condemning the wicked man by bringing down on his own head what he has done, and justifying the righteous man by rewarding him according to his righteousness.

When Your people Israel are defeated before an enemy because they have sinned against You, and they return to You and confess Your name, praying and pleading before You in this temple,

וְֽאִם־ עַמְּךָ֧ יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל יִנָּגֵ֞ף לִפְנֵ֥י אוֹיֵ֖ב כִּ֣י יֶֽחֶטְאוּ־ וְשָׁ֙בוּ֙ לָ֑ךְ וְהוֹד֣וּ אֶת־ שְׁמֶ֔ךָ וְהִתְפַּֽלְל֧וּ וְהִֽתְחַנְּנ֛וּ לְפָנֶ֖יךָ הַזֶּֽה׃ בַּבַּ֥יִת wə·’im- ‘am·mə·ḵā yiś·rā·’êl yin·nā·ḡêp̄ lip̄·nê ’ō·w·yêḇ kî ye·ḥeṭ·’ū- wə·šā·ḇū lāḵ wə·hō·w·ḏū ’eṯ- šə·me·ḵā wə·hiṯ·pal·lū wə·hiṯ·ḥan·nə·nū lə·p̄ā·ne·ḵā haz·zeh bab·ba·yiṯ — WLC · 24

then may You hear from heaven and forgive the sin of Your people Israel. May You restore them to the land You gave to them and their fathers.

When the skies are shut and there is no rain because [Your people] have sinned against You, and they pray toward this place and confess Your name, and they turn from their sins because You have afflicted them,

הַשָּׁמַ֛יִם בְּהֵעָצֵ֧ר יִהְיֶ֥ה וְלֹֽא־ מָטָ֖ר כִּ֣י יֶֽחֶטְאוּ־ לָ֑ךְ וְהִֽתְפַּלְל֞וּ אֶל־ הַזֶּה֙ הַמָּק֤וֹם וְהוֹד֣וּ אֶת־ שְׁמֶ֔ךָ יְשׁוּב֖וּן מֵחַטָּאתָ֥ם כִּ֥י תַעֲנֵֽם׃ haš·šā·ma·yim bə·hê·‘ā·ṣêr yih·yeh wə·lō- mā·ṭār kî ye·ḥeṭ·’ū- lāḵ wə·hiṯ·pal·lū ’el- haz·zeh ham·mā·qō·wm wə·hō·w·ḏū ’eṯ- šə·me·ḵā yə·šū·ḇūn mê·ḥaṭ·ṭā·ṯām kî ṯa·‘ă·nêm — WLC · 26

then may You hear from heaven and forgive the sin of Your servants, Your people Israel, so that You may teach them… the good way in which they should walk May You send rain on the land that You gave Your people as an inheritance.

When famine [or] plague comes upon the land, [or] blight [or] mildew [or] locusts [or] grasshoppers, [or] when their enemies besiege them in their cities, whatever plague [or] sickness [may come],

כִּֽי־ רָעָ֞ב כִּֽי־ יִֽ֠הְיֶה דֶּ֣בֶר יִהְיֶ֣ה בָאָ֗רֶץ שִׁדָּפ֨וֹן וְיֵרָק֜וֹן אַרְבֶּ֤ה וְחָסִיל֙ כִּ֣י יִהְיֶ֔ה כִּ֧י אוֹיְבָ֖יו יָֽצַר־ ל֛וֹ בְּאֶ֣רֶץ שְׁעָרָ֑יו כָּל־ נֶ֖גַע וְכָֽל־ מַחֲלָֽה׃ kî- rā·‘āḇ kî- yih·yeh de·ḇer yih·yeh ḇā·’ā·reṣ šid·dā·p̄ō·wn wə·yê·rā·qō·wn ’ar·beh wə·ḥā·sîl kî yih·yeh kî ’ō·wy·ḇāw yā·ṣar- lōw bə·’e·reṣ šə·‘ā·rāw kāl- ne·ḡa‘ wə·ḵāl ma·ḥă·lāh — WLC · 28

be heard by You from heaven, Your dwelling place. And may You forgive and repay each man according to all his ways, since You know his heart— for You alone know the hearts vvv of men—

so that they may fear You and walk in Your ways all the days they live in… the land that You gave to our fathers.

And as for the foreigner who is not of Your people Israel… but has come from a distant land because of Your great name and Your mighty hand and outstretched arm— when he comes and prays toward this temple,

וְגַ֣ם אֶל־ הַנָּכְרִ֗י אֲ֠שֶׁר לֹ֥א מֵעַמְּךָ֣ יִשְׂרָאֵל֮ הוּא֒ וּבָ֣א׀ רְחוֹקָ֗ה מֵאֶ֣רֶץ לְמַ֨עַן הַגָּדוֹל֙ שִׁמְךָ֤ הַחֲזָקָ֔ה וְיָדְךָ֣ הַנְּטוּיָ֑ה וּֽזְרֽוֹעֲךָ֖ וּבָ֥אוּ וְהִֽתְפַּלְל֖וּ אֶל־ הַזֶּֽה׃ הַבַּ֥יִת wə·ḡam ’el- han·nā·ḵə·rî ’ă·šer lō mê·‘am·mə·ḵā yiś·rā·’êl hū ū·ḇā rə·ḥō·w·qāh mê·’e·reṣ lə·ma·‘an hag·gā·ḏō·wl šim·ḵā ha·ḥă·zā·qāh wə·yā·ḏə·ḵā han·nə·ṭū·yāh ū·zə·rō·w·‘ă·ḵā ū·ḇā·’ū wə·hiṯ·pal·lū ’el- haz·zeh hab·ba·yiṯ — WLC · 32

then may You hear from heaven, Your dwelling place, and do according to all for which the foreigner calls to You. Then all the peoples of the earth will know Your name and fear You, as [do] Your people Israel, and they will know that this house I have built is called… by Your Name.

וְאַתָּ֞ה תִּשְׁמַ֤ע מִן־ הַשָּׁמַ֙יִם֙ שִׁבְתֶּ֔ךָ מִמְּכ֣וֹן וְעָשִׂ֕יתָ כְּכֹ֛ל אֲשֶׁר־ הַנָּכְרִ֑י יִקְרָ֥א אֵלֶ֖יךָ לְמַ֣עַן כָל־ עַמֵּ֨י הָאָ֜רֶץ אֶת־ יֵדְעוּ֩ שְׁמֶ֗ךָ וּלְיִרְאָ֤ה אֹֽתְךָ֙ כְּעַמְּךָ֣ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וְלָדַ֕עַת כִּֽי־ הַזֶּ֖ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר הַבַּ֥יִת בָּנִֽיתִי׃ נִקְרָ֔א עַל־ שִׁמְךָ֣ wə·’at·tāh tiš·ma‘ min- haš·šā·ma·yim šiḇ·te·ḵā mim·mə·ḵō·wn wə·‘ā·śî·ṯā kə·ḵōl ’ă·šer- han·nā·ḵə·rî yiq·rā ’ê·le·ḵā lə·ma·‘an ḵāl ‘am·mê hā·’ā·reṣ ’eṯ- yê·ḏə·‘ū šə·me·ḵā ū·lə·yir·’āh ’ō·ṯə·ḵā kə·‘am·mə·ḵā yiś·rā·’êl wə·lā·ḏa·‘aṯ kî- haz·zeh ’ă·šer hab·ba·yiṯ bā·nî·ṯî niq·rā ‘al- šim·ḵā — WLC · 33

When Your people go to war against their enemies, wherever You send them, and when they pray to You in the direction of this city You have chosen and the house - I have built for Your Name,

כִּֽי־ עַמְּךָ֤ יֵצֵ֨א לַמִּלְחָמָה֙ עַל־ א֣וֹיְבָ֔יו בַּדֶּ֖רֶךְ אֲשֶׁ֣ר תִּשְׁלָחֵ֑ם וְהִתְפַּֽלְל֣וּ אֵלֶ֗יךָ דֶּ֣רֶךְ הַזֹּאת֙ הָעִ֤יר בָּחַ֣רְתָּ בָּ֔הּ וְהַבַּ֖יִת אֲשֶׁר־ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בָּנִ֥יתִי לִשְׁמֶֽךָ׃ kî- ‘am·mə·ḵā yê·ṣê lam·mil·ḥā·māh ‘al- ’ō·wy·ḇāw bad·de·reḵ ’ă·šer tiš·lā·ḥêm wə·hiṯ·pal·lū ’ê·le·ḵā de·reḵ haz·zōṯ hā·‘îr bā·ḥar·tā bāh wə·hab·ba·yiṯ ’ă·šer- ’ă·šer bā·nî·ṯî liš·me·ḵā — WLC · 34

then may You hear from heaven… their prayer and their plea, and may You uphold their cause.

When they sin against You— for there is no one who does not sin— and You become angry with them and deliver them to an enemy who takes them as captives to a land far or near,

כִּ֣י יֶחֶטְאוּ־ לָ֗ךְ כִּ֣י אֵ֤ין אָדָם֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר לֹא־ יֶחֱטָ֔א וְאָנַפְתָּ֣ בָ֔ם וּנְתַתָּ֖ם לִפְנֵ֣י אוֹיֵ֑ב וְשָׁב֧וּם שׁוֹבֵיהֶ֛ם אֶל־ אֶ֥רֶץ רְחוֹקָ֖ה א֥וֹ קְרוֹבָֽה׃ kî ye·ḥeṭ·’ū- lāḵ kî ’ên ’ā·ḏām ’ă·šer lō- ye·ḥĕ·ṭā wə·’ā·nap̄·tā ḇām ū·nə·ṯat·tām lip̄·nê ’ō·w·yêḇ wə·šā·ḇūm šō·w·ḇê·hem ’el- ’e·reṣ rə·ḥō·w·qāh ’ōw qə·rō·w·ḇāh — WLC · 36

and when they come to their senses in the land to which they were taken,… and they repent and plead with You in the land of their captors, saying, ‘We have sinned and done wrong; we have acted wickedly,’

וְהֵשִׁ֙יבוּ֙ אֶל־ לְבָבָ֔ם בָּאָ֖רֶץ אֲשֶׁ֣ר נִשְׁבּוּ־ שָׁ֑ם וְשָׁ֣בוּ׀ וְהִֽתְחַנְּנ֣וּ אֵלֶ֗יךָ בְּאֶ֤רֶץ שִׁבְיָם֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר חָטָ֥אנוּ הֶעֱוִ֖ינוּ וְרָשָֽׁעְנוּ׃ wə·hê·šî·ḇū ’el- lə·ḇā·ḇām bā·’ā·reṣ ’ă·šer niš·bū- šām wə·šā·ḇū wə·hiṯ·ḥan·nə·nū ’ê·le·ḵā bə·’e·reṣ šiḇ·yām lê·mōr ḥā·ṭā·nū he·‘ĕ·wî·nū wə·rā·šā·‘ə·nū — WLC · 37

and when they return to You with all their heart and soul in the land of the enemies who took them captive, and when they pray in the direction of the land that You gave to their fathers, the city You have chosen, and the house I have built for Your Name,

Now, my God, may Your eyes be open and Your ears attentive to the prayer offered in this place.

Now therefore, arise, O LORD God, and enter Your resting place, You and the ark of Your might. May Your priests, O LORD God, be clothed with salvation, and may Your godly ones rejoice in goodness.
