Jotham Reigns in Judah
1
Jotham was twenty-five… years old… when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem sixteen… years. His mother’s name was Jerushah daughter of Zadok.
𐤉𐤅𐤕𐤌 𐤏𐤔𐤓𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤇𐤌𐤔 𐤁𐤍 𐤔𐤍𐤄 𐤁𐤌𐤋𐤊𐤅 𐤌𐤋𐤊 𐤁𐤉𐤓𐤅𐤔𐤋𐤌 𐤅𐤔𐤔 𐤏𐤔𐤓𐤄 𐤔𐤍𐤄 𐤀𐤌𐤅 𐤅𐤔𐤌 𐤉𐤓𐤅𐤔𐤄 𐤁𐤕 𐤑𐤃𐤅𐤒
יוֹתָ֣ם עֶשְׂרִ֨ים וְחָמֵ֤שׁ בֶּן־ שָׁנָה֙ בְּמָלְכ֔וֹ מָלַ֖ךְ בִּֽירוּשָׁלִָ֑ם וְשֵׁשׁ־ עֶשְׂרֵ֣ה שָׁנָ֔ה אִמּ֔וֹ וְשֵׁ֣ם יְרוּשָׁ֖ה בַּת־ צָדֽוֹק׃ yō·w·ṯām ‘eś·rîm wə·ḥā·mêš ben- šā·nāh bə·mā·lə·ḵōw mā·laḵ bî·rū·šā·lim wə·šêš- ‘eś·rêh šā·nāh ’im·mōw wə·šêm yə·rū·šāh baṯ- ṣā·ḏō·wq — WLC · 1

And he did [what was] right in the eyes of the LORD, just as his father Uzziah had done. In addition, he did not enter… the temple of the LORD. But the people still behaved corruptly.
𐤅𐤉𐤏𐤔 𐤄𐤉𐤔𐤓 𐤁𐤏𐤉𐤍𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤊𐤊𐤋 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤅 𐤏𐤆𐤉𐤄𐤅 𐤏𐤔𐤄 𐤓𐤒 𐤋𐤀 𐤁𐤀 𐤀𐤋 𐤄𐤉𐤊𐤋 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤄𐤏𐤌 𐤅𐤏𐤅𐤃 𐤌𐤔𐤇𐤉𐤕𐤉𐤌
וַיַּ֨עַשׂ הַיָּשָׁ֜ר בְּעֵינֵ֣י יְהוָ֗ה כְּכֹ֤ל אֲשֶׁר־ אָבִ֔יו עֻזִּיָּ֣הוּ עָשָׂה֙ רַ֕ק לֹא־ בָ֖א אֶל־ הֵיכַ֣ל יְהוָ֑ה הָעָ֖ם וְע֥וֹד מַשְׁחִיתִֽים׃ way·ya·‘aś hay·yā·šār bə·‘ê·nê Yah·weh kə·ḵōl ’ă·šer- ’ā·ḇîw ‘uz·zî·yā·hū ‘ā·śāh raq lō- ḇā ’el- hê·ḵal Yah·weh hā·‘ām wə·‘ō·wḏ maš·ḥî·ṯîm — WLC · 2

Jotham rebuilt the Upper Gate of the house of the LORD, and he worked extensively on the wall at [the hill of] Ophel.

ה֗וּא בָּנָ֛ה אֶת־ הָעֶלְי֑וֹן שַׁ֥עַר בֵּית־ יְהוָ֖ה בָּנָ֖ה לָרֹֽב׃ וּבְחוֹמַ֥ת הָעֹ֛פֶל hū bā·nāh ’eṯ- hā·‘el·yō·wn ša·‘ar bêṯ- Yah·weh bā·nāh lā·rōḇ ū·ḇə·ḥō·w·maṯ hā·‘ō·p̄el — WLC · 3

He also built cities in the hill country of Judah and fortresses and towers in the forests…
𐤁𐤍𐤄 𐤅𐤏𐤓𐤉𐤌 𐤁𐤄𐤓 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤃𐤄 𐤁𐤉𐤓𐤍𐤉𐤅𐤕 𐤅𐤌𐤂𐤃𐤋𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤁𐤇𐤓𐤔𐤉𐤌 𐤁𐤍𐤄
בָּנָ֖ה וְעָרִ֥ים בְּהַר־ יְהוּדָ֑ה בִּֽירָנִיּ֖וֹת וּמִגְדָּלִֽים׃ וּבֶחֳרָשִׁ֣ים בָּנָ֔ה bā·nāh wə·‘ā·rîm bə·har- yə·hū·ḏāh bî·rā·nî·yō·wṯ ū·miḡ·dā·lîm ū·ḇe·ḥo·rā·šîm bā·nāh — WLC · 4

[Jotham] waged war against the king of the Ammonites… and defeated them,… and that year they… gave him a hundred talents of silver, ten thousand cors of wheat, and ten thousand [cors] of barley. [They]… paid him the same in the second and third years.

וְ֠הוּא נִלְחַ֞ם עִם־ מֶ֣לֶךְ בְּנֵי־ עַמּוֹן֮ וַיֶּחֱזַ֣ק עֲלֵיהֶם֒ הַהִ֗יא בַּשָּׁנָ֣ה בְנֵֽי־ עַמּ֜וֹן וַיִּתְּנוּ־ ל֨וֹ מֵאָה֙ כִּכַּר־ כֶּ֔סֶף וַעֲשֶׂ֨רֶת אֲלָפִ֤ים כֹּרִים֙ חִטִּ֔ים עֲשֶׂ֣רֶת אֲלָפִ֑ים וּשְׂעוֹרִ֖ים בְּנֵ֣י עַמּ֔וֹןס הֵשִׁ֤יבוּ לוֹ֙ זֹ֗את הַשֵּׁנִ֖ית וְהַשְּׁלִשִֽׁית׃ וּבַשָּׁנָ֥ה wə·hū nil·ḥam ‘im- me·leḵ bə·nê- ‘am·mō·wn way·ye·ḥĕ·zaq ‘ă·lê·hem ha·hî baš·šā·nāh ḇə·nê- ‘am·mō·wn way·yit·tə·nū- lōw mê·’āh kik·kar- ke·sep̄ wa·‘ă·śe·reṯ ’ă·lā·p̄îm kō·rîm ḥiṭ·ṭîm ‘ă·śe·reṯ ’ă·lā·p̄îm ū·śə·‘ō·w·rîm bə·nê ʿam·mō·ns hê·šî·ḇū lōw zōṯ haš·šê·nîṯ wə·haš·šə·li·šîṯ ū·ḇaš·šā·nāh — WLC · 5

So Jotham grew powerful because he ordered his ways before the LORD his God.
𐤉𐤅𐤕𐤌 𐤅𐤉𐤕𐤇𐤆𐤒 𐤊𐤉 𐤄𐤊𐤉𐤍 𐤃𐤓𐤊𐤉𐤅 𐤋𐤐𐤍𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤅
יוֹתָ֑ם וַיִּתְחַזֵּ֖ק כִּ֚י הֵכִ֣ין דְּרָכָ֔יו לִפְנֵ֖י יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהָֽיו׃ yō·w·ṯām way·yiṯ·ḥaz·zêq kî hê·ḵîn də·rā·ḵāw lip̄·nê Yah·weh ’ĕ·lō·hāw — WLC · 6

As for the rest of the acts of Jotham, along with all his wars and his ways, they [are] indeed written in the Book of the Kings of Israel and Judah.

וְיֶתֶר֙ דִּבְרֵ֣י יוֹתָ֔ם וְכָל־ מִלְחֲמֹתָ֖יו וּדְרָכָ֑יו הִנָּ֣ם כְּתוּבִ֔ים עַל־ סֵ֥פֶר מַלְכֵֽי־ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל וִיהוּדָֽה׃ wə·ye·ṯer diḇ·rê yō·w·ṯām wə·ḵāl mil·ḥă·mō·ṯāw ū·ḏə·rā·ḵāw hin·nām kə·ṯū·ḇîm ‘al- sê·p̄er mal·ḵê- yiś·rā·’êl wî·hū·ḏāh — WLC · 7

And Jotham rested with his fathers and was buried in the City of David. And his son Ahaz reigned in his place.

יוֹתָם֙ וַיִּשְׁכַּ֤ב עִם־ אֲבֹתָ֔יו וַיִּקְבְּר֥וּ אֹת֖וֹ בְּעִ֣יר דָּוִ֑יד בְּנ֖וֹ אָחָ֥ז וַיִּמְלֹ֛ךְ תַּחְתָּֽיו׃פ yō·w·ṯām way·yiš·kaḇ ‘im- ’ă·ḇō·ṯāw way·yiq·bə·rū ’ō·ṯōw bə·‘îr dā·wîḏ bə·nōw ’ā·ḥāz way·yim·lōḵ taḥ·tāw — WLC · 9
