Chapter 20

War against Jehoshaphat

  • After this, the Moabites… and Ammonites…, together with some of the Meunites, came to make war against Jehoshaphat.

𐤅𐤉𐤄𐤉 𐤀𐤇𐤓𐤉𐤊𐤍 𐤁𐤍𐤉 𐤌𐤅𐤀𐤁 𐤅𐤁𐤍𐤉 𐤏𐤌𐤅𐤍 𐤅𐤏𐤌𐤄𐤌 𐤌𐤄𐤏𐤌𐤅𐤍𐤉𐤌 𐤁𐤀𐤅 𐤋𐤌𐤋𐤇𐤌𐤄 𐤏𐤋 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤐𐤈

וַיְהִ֣י אַֽחֲרֵיכֵ֡ן בְנֵי־ מוֹאָב֩ וּבְנֵ֨י עַמּ֜וֹן וְעִמָּהֶ֧ם׀ מֵֽהָעַמּוֹנִ֛ים בָּ֣אוּ לַמִּלְחָמָֽה׃ עַל־ יְהוֹשָׁפָ֖ט way·hî ’a·ḥă·rê·ḵên ḇə·nê- mō·w·’āḇ ū·ḇə·nê ‘am·mō·wn wə·‘im·mā·hem mê·hā·‘am·mō·w·nîm bā·’ū lam·mil·ḥā·māh ‘al- yə·hō·wō·šā·p̄āṭWLC · 1

Then some men came and told Jehoshaphat,… “A vast army is coming against you from Edom, from beyond the Sea; they are already vvv in Hazazon-tamar” (that is, En-gedi…).

𐤅𐤉𐤁𐤀𐤅 𐤅𐤉𐤂𐤉𐤃𐤅 𐤋𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤐𐤈 𐤋𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤓𐤁 𐤄𐤌𐤅𐤍 𐤁𐤀 𐤏𐤋𐤉𐤊 𐤌𐤀𐤓𐤌 𐤌𐤏𐤁𐤓 𐤋𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤄𐤍𐤌 𐤁𐤇𐤑𐤑𐤅𐤍 𐤕𐤌𐤓 𐤄𐤉𐤀 𐤏𐤉𐤍 𐤂𐤃𐤉

וַיָּבֹ֗אוּ וַיַּגִּ֤ידוּ לִֽיהוֹשָׁפָט֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר רָ֛ב הָמ֥וֹן בָּ֣א עָלֶ֜יךָ מֵאֲרָ֑ם מֵעֵ֥בֶר לַיָּ֖ם וְהִנָּם֙ בְּחַֽצְצ֣וֹן תָּמָ֔ר הִ֖יא עֵ֥ין גֶּֽדִי׃ way·yā·ḇō·’ū way·yag·gî·ḏū lî·hō·wō·šā·p̄āṭ lê·mōr rāḇ hā·mō·wn bā ‘ā·le·ḵā mê·’ă·rām mê·‘ê·ḇer lay·yām wə·hin·nām bə·ḥaṣ·ṣō·wn tā·mār hî ‘ên ge·ḏîWLC · 2

Jehoshaphat was alarmed and set his face to seek the LORD. And he proclaimed a fast throughout… Judah.

𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤐𐤈 𐤀𐤕 𐤅𐤉𐤓𐤀 𐤅𐤉𐤕𐤍 𐤐𐤍𐤉𐤅 𐤋𐤃𐤓𐤅𐤔 𐤋𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤓𐤀 𐤑𐤅𐤌 𐤏𐤋 𐤊𐤋 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤃𐤄

יְהוֹשָׁפָ֛ט אֶת־ וַיִּרָ֕א וַיִּתֵּ֧ן פָּנָ֖יו לִדְר֣וֹשׁ לַיהוָ֑ה וַיִּקְרָא־ צ֖וֹם עַל־ כָּל־ יְהוּדָֽה׃ yə·hō·wō·šā·p̄āṭ ’eṯ- way·yi·rā way·yit·tên pā·nāw liḏ·rō·wōš Yah·weh way·yiq·rā- ṣō·wm ‘al- kāl- yə·hū·ḏāhWLC · 3

So [the people of] Judah gathered to seek the LORD, and indeed, they came from all the cities of Judah to seek Him.

Jehoshaphat’s Prayer

Then Jehoshaphat stood in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem in the house of the LORD in front of the new courtyard

𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤐𐤈 𐤅𐤉𐤏𐤌𐤃 𐤁𐤒𐤄𐤋 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤃𐤄 𐤅𐤉𐤓𐤅𐤔𐤋𐤌 𐤁𐤁𐤉𐤕 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤋𐤐𐤍𐤉 𐤄𐤇𐤃𐤔𐤄 𐤄𐤇𐤑𐤓

יְהוֹשָׁפָ֗ט וַיַּעֲמֹ֣ד בִּקְהַ֧ל יְהוּדָ֛ה וִירוּשָׁלִַ֖ם בְּבֵ֣ית יְהוָ֑ה לִפְנֵ֖י הַחֲדָשָֽׁה׃ הֶחָצֵ֥ר yə·hō·wō·šā·p̄āṭ way·ya·‘ă·mōḏ biq·hal yə·hū·ḏāh wî·rū·šā·lim bə·ḇêṯ Yah·weh lip̄·nê ha·ḥă·ḏā·šāh he·ḥā·ṣêrWLC · 5

and said, “O LORD, God of our fathers, are You… not the God who is in heaven, and do You not rule over all the kingdoms of the nations? Power and might are in Your hand, and no one can stand against You.

𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉 𐤀𐤁𐤕𐤉𐤍𐤅 𐤀𐤕𐤄 𐤄𐤅𐤀 𐤄𐤋𐤀 𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌 𐤁𐤔𐤌𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤀𐤕𐤄 𐤌𐤅𐤔𐤋 𐤁𐤊𐤋 𐤌𐤌𐤋𐤊𐤅𐤕 𐤄𐤂𐤅𐤉𐤌 𐤊𐤇 𐤅𐤂𐤁𐤅𐤓𐤄 𐤅𐤁𐤉𐤃𐤊 𐤅𐤀𐤉𐤍 𐤋𐤄𐤕𐤉𐤑𐤁 𐤏𐤌𐤊

וַיֹּאמַ֗ר יְהוָ֞ה אֱלֹהֵ֤י אֲבֹתֵ֙ינוּ֙ אַתָּֽה־ ה֤וּא הֲלֹ֨א אֱלֹהִים֙ בַּשָּׁמַ֔יִם וְאַתָּ֣ה מוֹשֵׁ֔ל בְּכֹ֖ל מַמְלְכ֣וֹת הַגּוֹיִ֑ם כֹּ֣חַ וּגְבוּרָ֔ה וּבְיָדְךָ֙ וְאֵ֥ין לְהִתְיַצֵּֽב׃ עִמְּךָ֖ way·yō·mar Yah·weh ’ĕ·lō·hê ’ă·ḇō·ṯê·nū ’at·tāh- hū hă·lō ’ĕ·lō·hîm baš·šā·ma·yim wə·’at·tāh mō·wō·šêl bə·ḵōl mam·lə·ḵō·wṯ hag·gō·w·yim kō·aḥ ū·ḡə·ḇū·rāh ū·ḇə·yā·ḏə·ḵā wə·’ên lə·hiṯ·yaṣ·ṣêḇ ‘im·mə·ḵāWLC · 6

Our God, did You not drive out the inhabitants of this land before Your people Israel and give it forever to the descendants of Abraham Your friend?

𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤍𐤅 𐤀𐤕𐤄 𐤄𐤋𐤀 𐤄𐤅𐤓𐤔𐤕 𐤀𐤕 𐤉𐤔𐤁𐤉 𐤄𐤆𐤀𐤕 𐤄𐤀𐤓𐤑 𐤌𐤋𐤐𐤍𐤉 𐤏𐤌𐤊 𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 𐤅𐤕𐤕𐤍𐤄 𐤋𐤏𐤅𐤋𐤌 𐤋𐤆𐤓𐤏 𐤀𐤁𐤓𐤄𐤌 𐤀𐤄𐤁𐤊

אֱלֹהֵ֗ינוּ אַתָּ֣ה הֲלֹ֣א׀ הוֹרַ֙שְׁתָּ֙ אֶת־ יֹשְׁבֵי֙ הַזֹּ֔את הָאָ֣רֶץ מִלִּפְנֵ֖י עַמְּךָ֣ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַֽתִּתְּנָ֗הּ לְעוֹלָֽם׃ לְזֶ֛רַע אַבְרָהָ֥ם אֹֽהַבְךָ֖ ’ĕ·lō·hê·nū ’at·tāh hă·lō hō·w·raš·tā ’eṯ- yō·šə·ḇê haz·zōṯ hā·’ā·reṣ mil·lip̄·nê ‘am·mə·ḵā yiś·rā·’êl wat·tit·tə·nāh lə·‘ō·w·lām lə·ze·ra‘ ’aḇ·rā·hām ’ō·haḇ·ḵāWLC · 7

They have lived in the land and have built in it a sanctuary for Your Name, saying,

𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤁𐤅 𐤁𐤄 𐤅𐤉𐤁𐤍𐤅 𐤋𐤊 𐤁𐤄 𐤌𐤒𐤃𐤔 𐤋𐤔𐤌𐤊 𐤋𐤀𐤌𐤓

וַיֵּשְׁב֖וּ־ בָ֑הּ וַיִּבְנ֨וּ לְךָ֧׀ בָּ֛הּ מִקְדָּ֖שׁ לְשִׁמְךָ֥ לֵאמֹֽר׃ way·yê·šə·ḇū- ḇāh way·yiḇ·nū lə·ḵā bāh miq·dāš lə·šim·ḵā lê·mōrWLC · 8

‘If disaster comes upon us— whether sword or judgment, plague or famine— we will stand before this temple and before You, for Your Name is in this temple. We will cry out to You in our distress, and You will hear us and save us.’

אִם־ רָעָ֗ה תָּב֨וֹא עָלֵ֜ינוּ חֶרֶב֮ שְׁפוֹט֮ וְדֶ֣בֶר וְרָעָב֒ נַֽעַמְדָ֞ה לִפְנֵ֨י הַזֶּה֙ הַבַּ֤יִת וּלְפָנֶ֔יךָ כִּ֥י שִׁמְךָ֖ הַזֶּ֑ה בַּבַּ֣יִת וְנִזְעַ֥ק אֵלֶ֛יךָ מִצָּרָתֵ֖נוּ וְתִשְׁמַ֥ע וְתוֹשִֽׁיעַ׃ ’im- rā·‘āh tā·ḇō·w ‘ā·lê·nū ḥe·reḇ šə·p̄ō·wṭ wə·ḏe·ḇer wə·rā·‘āḇ na·‘am·ḏāh lip̄·nê haz·zeh hab·ba·yiṯ ū·lə·p̄ā·ne·ḵā kî šim·ḵā haz·zeh bab·ba·yiṯ wə·niz·‘aq ’ê·le·ḵā miṣ·ṣā·rā·ṯê·nū wə·ṯiš·ma‘ wə·ṯō·wō·šî·a‘WLC · 9

And now, here are the men of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, whom You did not let Israel invade when they came out of the land of Egypt. So Israel turned away from them and did not destroy them.

𐤅𐤏𐤕𐤄 𐤄𐤍𐤄 𐤁𐤍𐤉 𐤏𐤌𐤅𐤍 𐤅𐤌𐤅𐤀𐤁 𐤅𐤄𐤓 𐤔𐤏𐤉𐤓 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤋𐤀 𐤍𐤕𐤕𐤄 𐤋𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 𐤋𐤁𐤅𐤀 𐤁𐤄𐤌 𐤁𐤁𐤀𐤌 𐤌𐤀𐤓𐤑 𐤌𐤑𐤓𐤉𐤌 𐤊𐤉 𐤎𐤓𐤅 𐤌𐤏𐤋𐤉𐤄𐤌 𐤅𐤋𐤀 𐤄𐤔𐤌𐤉𐤃𐤅𐤌

וְעַתָּ֡ה הִנֵּה֩ בְנֵֽי־ עַמּ֨וֹן וּמוֹאָ֜ב וְהַר־ שֵׂעִ֗יר אֲ֠שֶׁר לֹֽא־ נָתַ֤תָּה לְיִשְׂרָאֵל֙ לָב֣וֹא בָהֶ֔ם בְּבֹאָ֖ם מֵאֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרָ֑יִם כִּ֛י סָ֥רוּ מֵעֲלֵיהֶ֖ם וְלֹ֥א הִשְׁמִידֽוּם׃ wə·‘at·tāh hin·nêh ḇə·nê- ‘am·mō·wn ū·mō·w·’āḇ wə·har- śê·‘îr ’ă·šer lō- nā·ṯat·tāh lə·yiś·rā·’êl lā·ḇō·w ḇā·hem bə·ḇō·’ām mê·’e·reṣ miṣ·rā·yim kî sā·rū mê·‘ă·lê·hem wə·lō hiš·mî·ḏūmWLC · 10

See how they are repaying us by coming to drive us out of the possession that You gave us as an inheritance.

𐤅𐤄𐤍𐤄 𐤄𐤌 𐤂𐤌𐤋𐤉𐤌 𐤏𐤋𐤉𐤍𐤅 𐤋𐤁𐤅𐤀 𐤋𐤂𐤓𐤔𐤍𐤅 𐤌𐤉𐤓𐤔𐤕𐤊 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤄𐤅𐤓𐤔𐤕𐤍𐤅

וְהִ֨נֵּה־ הֵ֔ם גֹּמְלִ֖ים עָלֵ֑ינוּ לָבוֹא֙ לְגָ֣רְשֵׁ֔נוּ מִיְּרֻשָּׁתְךָ֖ אֲשֶׁ֥ר הֽוֹרַשְׁתָּֽנוּ׃ wə·hin·nêh- hêm gō·mə·lîm ‘ā·lê·nū lā·ḇō·w lə·ḡā·rə·šê·nū mî·yə·ruš·šā·ṯə·ḵā ’ă·šer hō·w·raš·tā·nūWLC · 11

Our God, will You not judge them? For vvv vvv we are powerless before this vast army that comes against us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes [are] upon You.”

𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤍𐤅 𐤄𐤋𐤀 𐤕𐤔𐤐𐤈 𐤁𐤌 𐤊𐤉 𐤀𐤉𐤍 𐤁𐤍𐤅 𐤊𐤇 𐤋𐤐𐤍𐤉 𐤄𐤆𐤄 𐤄𐤓𐤁 𐤄𐤄𐤌𐤅𐤍 𐤄𐤁𐤀 𐤏𐤋𐤉𐤍𐤅 𐤅𐤀𐤍𐤇𐤍𐤅 𐤋𐤀 𐤍𐤃𐤏 𐤌𐤄 𐤍𐤏𐤔𐤄 𐤊𐤉 𐤏𐤉𐤍𐤉𐤍𐤅 𐤏𐤋𐤉𐤊

אֱלֹהֵ֙ינוּ֙ הֲלֹ֣א תִשְׁפָּט־ בָּ֔ם כִּ֣י אֵ֥ין בָּ֙נוּ֙ כֹּ֔חַ לִ֠פְנֵי הַזֶּ֖ה הָרָ֛ב הֶהָמ֥וֹן הַבָּ֣א עָלֵ֑ינוּ וַאֲנַ֗חְנוּ לֹ֤א נֵדַע֙ מַֽה־ נַּעֲשֶׂ֔ה כִּ֥י עֵינֵֽינוּ׃ עָלֶ֖יךָ ’ĕ·lō·hê·nū hă·lō ṯiš·pāṭ- bām kî ’ên bā·nū kō·aḥ lip̄·nê haz·zeh hā·rāḇ he·hā·mō·wn hab·bā ‘ā·lê·nū wa·’ă·naḥ·nū lō nê·ḏa‘ mah- na·‘ă·śeh kî ‘ê·nê·nū ‘ā·le·ḵāWLC · 12

Meanwhile all [the men] of Judah, with their wives and children and little ones, were standing before the LORD.

𐤅𐤊𐤋 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤃𐤄 𐤂𐤌 𐤍𐤔𐤉𐤄𐤌 𐤅𐤁𐤍𐤉𐤄𐤌𐤐 𐤈𐤐𐤌 𐤏𐤌𐤃𐤉𐤌 𐤋𐤐𐤍𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄

וְכָ֨ל־ יְהוּדָ֔ה גַּם־ נְשֵׁיהֶ֥ם וּבְנֵיהֶֽם׃פ טַפָּ֖ם עֹמְדִ֖ים לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה wə·ḵōl- yə·hū·ḏāh gam- nə·šê·hem ū·ḇə·nê·hem ṭap·pām ‘ō·mə·ḏîm lip̄·nê Yah·wehWLC · 13

The Prophecy of Jahaziel

Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jahaziel son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite from Asaph’s descendants, [as he stood] in the midst of the assembly.

𐤓𐤅𐤇 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤄𐤉𐤕𐤄 𐤏𐤋𐤉𐤅 𐤅𐤉𐤇𐤆𐤉𐤀𐤋 𐤁𐤍 𐤆𐤊𐤓𐤉𐤄𐤅 𐤁𐤍 𐤁𐤍𐤉𐤄 𐤁𐤍 𐤉𐤏𐤉𐤀𐤋 𐤁𐤍 𐤌𐤕𐤍𐤉𐤄 𐤄𐤋𐤅𐤉 𐤌𐤍 𐤀𐤎𐤐 𐤁𐤍𐤉 𐤁𐤕𐤅𐤊 𐤄𐤒𐤄𐤋

ר֣וּחַ יְהוָ֔ה הָיְתָ֤ה עָלָיו֙ וְיַחֲזִיאֵ֡ל בֶּן־ זְכַרְיָ֡הוּ בֶּן־ בְּ֠נָיָה בֶּן־ יְעִיאֵ֧ל בֶּן־ מַתַּנְיָ֛ה הַלֵּוִ֖י מִן־ אָסָ֑ף בְּנֵ֣י בְּת֖וֹךְ הַקָּהָֽל׃ rū·aḥ Yah·weh hā·yə·ṯāh ‘ā·lāw wə·ya·ḥă·zî·’êl ben- zə·ḵar·yā·hū ben- bə·nā·yāh ben- yə·‘î·’êl ben- mat·tan·yāh hal·lê·wî min- ’ā·sāp̄ bə·nê bə·ṯō·wḵ haq·qā·hālWLC · 14

And he said, “Listen, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem! Listen, King Jehoshaphat! This is what the LORD says: ‘Do not be afraid… or discouraged because of this vast army, for the battle does not belong to you, but to God.

𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤄𐤒𐤔𐤉𐤁𐤅 𐤊𐤋 𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤁𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤃𐤄 𐤉𐤓𐤅𐤔𐤋𐤌 𐤅𐤄𐤌𐤋𐤊 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤔𐤐𐤈 𐤊𐤄 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤋𐤊𐤌 𐤀𐤕𐤌 𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤀𐤋 𐤕𐤉𐤓𐤀𐤅 𐤅𐤀𐤋 𐤕𐤇𐤕𐤅 𐤌𐤐𐤍𐤉 𐤄𐤆𐤄 𐤄𐤓𐤁 𐤄𐤄𐤌𐤅𐤍 𐤊𐤉 𐤄𐤌𐤋𐤇𐤌𐤄 𐤋𐤀 𐤋𐤊𐤌 𐤊𐤉 𐤋𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤌

וַיֹּ֗אמֶר הַקְשִׁ֤יבוּ כָל־ וְיֹשְׁבֵ֣י יְהוּדָה֙ יְרוּשָׁלִַ֔ם וְהַמֶּ֖לֶךְ יְהוֹשָׁפָ֑ט כֹּֽה־ יְהוָ֜ה לָכֶ֗ם אַ֠תֶּם אָמַ֨ר אַל־ תִּֽירְא֤וּ וְאַל־ תֵּחַ֙תּוּ֙ מִפְּנֵ֨י הַזֶּ֔ה הָרָב֙ הֶהָמ֤וֹן כִּ֣י הַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה לֹ֥א לָכֶ֛ם כִּ֥י לֵאלֹהִֽים׃ way·yō·mer haq·šî·ḇū ḵāl wə·yō·šə·ḇê yə·hū·ḏāh yə·rū·šā·lim wə·ham·me·leḵ yə·hō·wō·šā·p̄āṭ kōh- Yah·weh lā·ḵem ’at·tem ’ā·mar ’al- tî·rə·’ū wə·’al- tê·ḥat·tū mip·pə·nê haz·zeh hā·rāḇ he·hā·mō·wn kî ham·mil·ḥā·māh lō lā·ḵem kî lê·lō·hîmWLC · 15

Tomorrow you are to march down against them. You will see them coming up the Ascent of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the valley facing the Wilderness of Jeruel.

You need not fight this [battle]. Take up your positions, stand firm, and see the salvation of the LORD on your behalf, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid… or discouraged. Go out and face them tomorrow, for the LORD is with you.’”

Then Jehoshaphat bowed facedown…, and all the people of Judah and Jerusalem fell down before the LORD to worship Him.

The Enemies Destroy Themselves

Early in the morning they got up and left for the Wilderness of Tekoa. As they set out, Jehoshaphat stood up and said, “Hear me, O people of Judah and Jerusalem. Believe in the LORD your God, and you will be upheld; believe in His prophets, and you will succeed.”

Then [Jehoshaphat] consulted with the people and appointed those who would sing to the LORD and praise the splendor of His holiness. As they went out before the army, they were singing: “Give thanks to the LORD, for His loving devotion endures forever.”

The moment they began their shouts and praises, the LORD set ambushes against the men of Ammon…, Moab, and Mount Seir who had come against Judah, and they were defeated.

The Ammonites… and Moabites rose up against the inhabitants of Mount Seir, devoting them to destruction. And when they had finished off the inhabitants of Seir, they helped to destroy one another.

When the men of Judah came to a place overlooking the wilderness, they looked for the vast army, but there were only corpses lying on the ground; no one had escaped.

Then Jehoshaphat and his people went to carry off the plunder, and they found on the bodies an abundance of goods and valuables… more than they could carry away. They were gathering the plunder for three days because there was so much…

The Joyful Return

On the fourth day they assembled in the Valley of Beracah, where they blessed the LORD. Therefore… that place is called - the Valley of Beracah to this day.

Then all the men of Judah and Jerusalem, with Jehoshaphat at their head, returned joyfully to Jerusalem, for the LORD had made them rejoice over their enemies.

So they entered Jerusalem and went into the house of the LORD with harps, lyres, and trumpets.

And the fear of God came upon all the kingdoms of the lands when they heard that the LORD had fought against the enemies of Israel.

Then Jehoshaphat’s kingdom was at peace, for his God had given him rest on every side.

Summary of Jehoshaphat’s Reign

So Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah. He [was] thirty-five… years old… when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem twenty-five… years. His mother’s name was Azubah daughter of Shilhi.

And [Jehoshaphat] walked in the way of his father Asa and did not turn away from it; he did what was right in the eyes of the LORD.

The high places, however, were not removed; the people had not yet set their hearts on the God of their fathers.

Later, Jehoshaphat king of Judah made an alliance with Ahaziah king of Israel, who acted wickedly.

Then Eliezer son of Dodavahu of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, “Because you have allied yourself with Ahaziah, the LORD has destroyed your works.” So the ships were wrecked vvv and were unable to sail to Tarshish.
