Chapter 8
The Ark Enters the Temple
1
At that time Solomon assembled before him… in Jerusalem the elders of Israel— all the tribal heads and family leaders… vvv of the Israelites— to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD from Zion, the City of David.
𐤀𐤆 𐤔𐤋𐤌𐤄 𐤀𐤕 𐤉𐤒𐤄𐤋 𐤀𐤋 𐤄𐤌𐤋𐤊 𐤔𐤋𐤌𐤄 𐤉𐤓𐤅𐤔𐤋𐤌 𐤆𐤒𐤍𐤉 𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 𐤀𐤕 𐤊𐤋 𐤄𐤌𐤈𐤅𐤕 𐤓𐤀𐤔𐤉 𐤍𐤔𐤉𐤀𐤉 𐤄𐤀𐤁𐤅𐤕 𐤋𐤁𐤍𐤉 𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 𐤋𐤄𐤏𐤋𐤅𐤕 𐤀𐤕 𐤀𐤓𐤅𐤍 𐤁𐤓𐤉𐤕 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤄𐤉𐤀 𐤑𐤉𐤅𐤍 𐤌𐤏𐤉𐤓 𐤃𐤅𐤃

And all the men of Israel came together to King Solomon at the feast… in the seventh month, the month of Ethanim.
𐤊𐤋 𐤀𐤉𐤔 𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤄𐤋𐤅 𐤀𐤋 𐤄𐤌𐤋𐤊 𐤔𐤋𐤌𐤄 𐤁𐤇𐤂 𐤄𐤅𐤀 𐤄𐤔𐤁𐤉𐤏𐤉 𐤄𐤇𐤃𐤔 𐤁𐤉𐤓𐤇 𐤄𐤀𐤕𐤍𐤉𐤌
כָּל־ אִ֣ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וַיִּקָּ֨הֲל֜וּ אֶל־ הַמֶּ֤לֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹה֙ בֶּחָ֑ג ה֖וּא הַשְּׁבִיעִֽי׃ הַחֹ֥דֶשׁ בְּיֶ֥רַח הָאֵֽתָנִ֖ים kāl- ’îš yiś·rā·’êl way·yiq·qā·hă·lū ’el- ham·me·leḵ šə·lō·mōh be·ḥāḡ hū haš·šə·ḇî·‘î ha·ḥō·ḏeš bə·ye·raḥ hā·’ê·ṯā·nîm — WLC · 2

When all the elders of Israel had arrived, the priests took up the ark,
𐤊𐤋 𐤆𐤒𐤍𐤉 𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 𐤅𐤉𐤁𐤀𐤅 𐤄𐤊𐤄𐤍𐤉𐤌 𐤀𐤕 𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤀𐤅 𐤄𐤀𐤓𐤅𐤍
כֹּ֖ל זִקְנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַיָּבֹ֕אוּ הַכֹּהֲנִ֖ים אֶת־ וַיִּשְׂא֥וּ הָאָרֽוֹן׃ kōl ziq·nê yiś·rā·’êl way·yā·ḇō·’ū hak·kō·hă·nîm ’eṯ- way·yiś·’ū hā·’ā·rō·wn — WLC · 3

and they brought up the ark of the LORD and the Tent of Meeting with all [its] sacred furnishings. So the priests and Levites carried them up. -

וַֽיַּעֲל֞וּ אֶת־ אֲר֤וֹן יְהוָה֙ וְאֶת־ אֹ֣הֶל מוֹעֵ֔ד וְאֶֽת־ כָּל־ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בָּאֹ֑הֶל הַקֹּ֖דֶשׁ כְּלֵ֥י הַכֹּהֲנִ֖ים וְהַלְוִיִּֽם׃ וַיַּעֲל֣וּ אֹתָ֔ם way·ya·‘ă·lū ’eṯ- ’ă·rō·wn Yah·weh wə·’eṯ- ’ō·hel mō·w·‘êḏ wə·’eṯ- kāl- ’ă·šer bā·’ō·hel haq·qō·ḏeš kə·lê hak·kō·hă·nîm wə·hal·wî·yim way·ya·‘ă·lū ’ō·ṯām — WLC · 4

There, before the ark, King Solomon and the whole congregation of Israel who had assembled with him… sacrificed so many sheep and oxen that they could not be counted… or numbered.

לִפְנֵ֣י הָֽאָר֑וֹן וְהַמֶּ֣לֶךְ שְׁלֹמֹ֗ה וְכָל־ עֲדַ֤ת יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ הַנּוֹעָדִ֣ים עָלָ֔יו אִתּ֖וֹ מְזַבְּחִים֙ מֵרֹֽב׃ צֹ֣אן וּבָקָ֔ר אֲשֶׁ֧ר לֹֽא־ יִסָּפְר֛וּ וְלֹ֥א יִמָּנ֖וּ lip̄·nê hā·’ā·rō·wn wə·ham·me·leḵ šə·lō·mōh wə·ḵāl ‘ă·ḏaṯ yiś·rā·’êl han·nō·w·‘ā·ḏîm ‘ā·lāw ’it·tōw mə·zab·bə·ḥîm mê·rōḇ ṣōn ū·ḇā·qār ’ă·šer lō- yis·sā·p̄ə·rū wə·lō yim·mā·nū — WLC · 5

Then the priests brought the ark of the covenant of the LORD to its place in the inner sanctuary of the temple, the Most Holy Place…,… beneath the wings of the cherubim.

הַ֠כֹּהֲנִים אֶת־ וַיָּבִ֣אוּ אֲר֨וֹן בְּרִית־ יְהוָ֧ה אֶל־ מְקוֹמ֛וֹ אֶל־ דְּבִ֥יר הַבַּ֖יִת אֶל־ קֹ֣דֶשׁ הַקֳּדָשִׁ֑ים אֶל־ תַּ֖חַת כַּנְפֵ֥י הַכְּרוּבִֽים׃ hak·kō·hă·nîm ’eṯ- way·yā·ḇi·’ū ’ă·rō·wn bə·rîṯ- Yah·weh ’el- mə·qō·w·mōw ’el- də·ḇîr hab·ba·yiṯ ’el- qō·ḏeš haq·qo·ḏā·šîm ’el- ta·ḥaṯ kan·p̄ê hak·kə·rū·ḇîm — WLC · 6

For the cherubim spread their wings over the place of the ark - and overshadowed… the ark and its poles.
𐤊𐤉 𐤄𐤊𐤓𐤅𐤁𐤉𐤌 𐤐𐤓𐤔𐤉𐤌 𐤊𐤍𐤐𐤉𐤌 𐤀𐤋 𐤌𐤒𐤅𐤌 𐤄𐤀𐤓𐤅𐤍 𐤄𐤊𐤓𐤁𐤉𐤌 𐤏𐤋 𐤅𐤉𐤎𐤊𐤅 𐤌𐤋𐤌𐤏𐤋𐤄 𐤄𐤀𐤓𐤅𐤍 𐤅𐤏𐤋 𐤁𐤃𐤉𐤅
כִּ֤י הַכְּרוּבִים֙ פֹּרְשִׂ֣ים כְּנָפַ֔יִם אֶל־ מְק֖וֹם הָאָר֥וֹן הַכְּרֻבִ֛ים עַל־ וַיָּסֹ֧כּוּ מִלְמָֽעְלָה׃ הָֽאָר֑וֹן וְעַל־ בַּדָּ֖יו kî hak·kə·rū·ḇîm pō·rə·śîm kə·nā·p̄a·yim ’el- mə·qō·wm hā·’ā·rō·wn hak·kə·ru·ḇîm ‘al- way·yā·sōk·kū mil·mā·‘ə·lāh hā·’ā·rō·wn wə·‘al- bad·dāw — WLC · 7

The poles extended far enough that their ends were visible from the Holy Place in front of the inner sanctuary, but not from outside [the Holy Place]; and they are there to this day.
𐤄𐤁𐤃𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤓𐤊𐤅 𐤄𐤁𐤃𐤉𐤌 𐤓𐤀𐤔𐤉 𐤅𐤉𐤓𐤀𐤅 𐤌𐤍 𐤄𐤒𐤃𐤔 𐤏𐤋 𐤐𐤍𐤉 𐤄𐤃𐤁𐤉𐤓 𐤅𐤋𐤀 𐤉𐤓𐤀𐤅 𐤄𐤇𐤅𐤑𐤄 𐤅𐤉𐤄𐤉𐤅 𐤔𐤌 𐤏𐤃 𐤄𐤆𐤄 𐤄𐤉𐤅𐤌
הַבַּדִּ֤ים וַֽיַּאֲרִכוּ֮ הַבַּדִּים֒ רָאשֵׁ֨י וַיֵּרָאוּ֩ מִן־ הַקֹּ֙דֶשׁ֙ עַל־ פְּנֵ֣י הַדְּבִ֔יר וְלֹ֥א יֵרָא֖וּ הַח֑וּצָה וַיִּ֣הְיוּ שָׁ֔ם עַ֖ד הַזֶּֽה׃ הַיּ֥וֹם hab·bad·dîm way·ya·’ă·ri·ḵū hab·bad·dîm rā·šê way·yê·rā·’ū min- haq·qō·ḏeš ‘al- pə·nê had·də·ḇîr wə·lō yê·rā·’ū ha·ḥū·ṣāh way·yih·yū šām ‘aḏ haz·zeh hay·yō·wm — WLC · 8

[There was] nothing in the ark except the two stone tablets that Moses had placed in it at Horeb, where the LORD had made a covenant with the Israelites… after they had come out of the land of Egypt.

אֵ֚ין בָּֽאָר֔וֹן רַ֗ק שְׁנֵי֙ הָאֲבָנִ֔ים לֻח֣וֹת אֲשֶׁ֨ר מֹשֶׁ֖ה הִנִּ֥חַ שָׁ֛ם בְּחֹרֵ֑ב אֲשֶׁ֨ר יְהוָה֙ כָּרַ֤ת עִם־ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל בְּצֵאתָ֖ם מֵאֶ֥רֶץ מִצְרָֽיִם׃ ’ên bā·’ā·rō·wn raq šə·nê hā·’ă·ḇā·nîm lu·ḥō·wṯ ’ă·šer mō·šeh hin·ni·aḥ šām bə·ḥō·rêḇ ’ă·šer Yah·weh kā·raṯ ‘im- bə·nê yiś·rā·’êl bə·ṣê·ṯām mê·’e·reṣ miṣ·rā·yim — WLC · 9

And when the priests came out of the Holy Place, the cloud filled the house of the LORD

וַיְהִ֕י הַכֹּהֲנִ֖ים בְּצֵ֥את מִן־ הַקֹּ֑דֶשׁ וְהֶעָנָ֥ן מָלֵ֖א אֶת־ בֵּ֥ית יְהוָֽה׃ way·hî hak·kō·hă·nîm bə·ṣêṯ min- haq·qō·ḏeš wə·he·‘ā·nān mā·lê ’eṯ- bêṯ Yah·weh — WLC · 10

so that the priests could not stand there to minister because of the cloud. For the glory of the LORD filled the house of the LORD.

הַכֹּהֲנִ֛ים יָכְל֧וּ וְלֹֽא־ לַעֲמֹ֥ד לְשָׁרֵ֖ת מִפְּנֵ֥י הֶֽעָנָ֑ן כִּי־ כְבוֹד־ יְהוָ֖ה אֶת־ מָלֵ֥א בֵּ֥ית יְהוָֽה׃פ hak·kō·hă·nîm yā·ḵə·lū wə·lō- la·‘ă·mōḏ lə·šā·rêṯ mip·pə·nê he·‘ā·nān kî- ḵə·ḇō·wḏ- Yah·weh ’eṯ- mā·lê bêṯ Yah·weh — WLC · 11
Solomon Blesses the LORD

Then Solomon declared: “The LORD has said that He would dwell in the thick cloud.
𐤀𐤆 𐤔𐤋𐤌𐤄 𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤋𐤔𐤊𐤍 𐤁𐤏𐤓𐤐𐤋
אָ֖ז שְׁלֹמֹ֑ה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֣ה אָמַ֔ר לִשְׁכֹּ֖ן בָּעֲרָפֶֽל׃ ’āz šə·lō·mōh ’ā·mar Yah·weh ’ā·mar liš·kōn bā·‘ă·rā·p̄el — WLC · 12

I have indeed built… You an exalted house, a place for You to dwell forever.”

בָּנֹ֥ה בָנִ֛יתִי לָ֑ךְ זְבֻ֖ל בֵּ֥ית מָכ֥וֹן לְשִׁבְתְּךָ֖ עוֹלָמִֽים׃ bā·nōh ḇā·nî·ṯî lāḵ zə·ḇul bêṯ mā·ḵō·wn lə·šiḇ·tə·ḵā ‘ō·w·lā·mîm — WLC · 13

And as the whole assembly of Israel stood [there], the king turned around… and blessed [them] all…

וְכָל־ קְהַ֥ל יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל עֹמֵֽד׃ הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ אֶת־ וַיַּסֵּ֤ב פָּנָ֔יו וַיְבָ֕רֶךְ אֵ֖ת כָּל־ קְהַ֣ל יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל wə·ḵāl qə·hal yiś·rā·’êl ‘ō·mêḏ ham·me·leḵ ’eṯ- way·yas·sêḇ pā·nāw way·ḇā·reḵ ’êṯ kāl- qə·hal yiś·rā·’êl — WLC · 14

and said: “Blessed [be] the LORD, the God of Israel, [who] has fulfilled with His own hand what He spoke with His mouth to my father David, saying,
𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤁𐤓𐤅𐤊 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉 𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤌𐤋𐤀 𐤅𐤁𐤉𐤃𐤅 𐤃𐤁𐤓 𐤁𐤐𐤉𐤅 𐤀𐤕 𐤀𐤁𐤉 𐤃𐤅𐤃 𐤋𐤀𐤌𐤓
וַיֹּ֗אמֶר בָּר֤וּךְ יְהוָה֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אֲשֶׁר֙ מִלֵּ֖א וּבְיָד֥וֹ דִּבֶּ֣ר בְּפִ֔יו אֵ֖ת אָבִ֑י דָּוִ֣ד לֵאמֹֽר׃ way·yō·mer bā·rūḵ Yah·weh ’ĕ·lō·hê yiś·rā·’êl ’ă·šer mil·lê ū·ḇə·yā·ḏōw dib·ber bə·p̄îw ’êṯ ’ā·ḇî dā·wiḏ lê·mōr — WLC · 15

‘Since the day I brought My people Israel out of Egypt, I have not chosen a city from any tribe of Israel [in which] to build a house so that My Name would be there. But I have chosen David to be over My people Israel.’
𐤌𐤍 𐤄𐤉𐤅𐤌 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤏𐤌𐤉 𐤀𐤕 𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 𐤄𐤅𐤑𐤀𐤕𐤉 𐤀𐤕 𐤌𐤌𐤑𐤓𐤉𐤌 𐤋𐤀 𐤁𐤇𐤓𐤕𐤉 𐤁𐤏𐤉𐤓 𐤌𐤊𐤋 𐤔𐤁𐤈𐤉 𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 𐤋𐤁𐤍𐤅𐤕 𐤁𐤉𐤕 𐤔𐤌𐤉 𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤅𐤕 𐤔𐤌 𐤅𐤀𐤁𐤇𐤓 𐤁𐤃𐤅𐤃 𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤅𐤕 𐤏𐤋 𐤏𐤌𐤉 𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋
מִן־ הַיּ֗וֹם אֲשֶׁ֨ר עַמִּ֣י אֶת־ יִשְׂרָאֵל֮ הוֹצֵ֜אתִי אֶת־ מִמִּצְרַיִם֒ לֹֽא־ בָחַ֣רְתִּי בְעִ֗יר מִכֹּל֙ שִׁבְטֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל לִבְנ֣וֹת בַּ֔יִת שְׁמִ֖י לִהְי֥וֹת שָׁ֑ם וָאֶבְחַ֣ר בְּדָוִ֔ד לִֽהְי֖וֹת עַל־ עַמִּ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ min- hay·yō·wm ’ă·šer ‘am·mî ’eṯ- yiś·rā·’êl hō·w·ṣê·ṯî ’eṯ- mim·miṣ·ra·yim lō- ḇā·ḥar·tî ḇə·‘îr mik·kōl šiḇ·ṭê yiś·rā·’êl liḇ·nō·wṯ ba·yiṯ šə·mî lih·yō·wṯ šām wā·’eḇ·ḥar bə·ḏā·wiḏ lih·yō·wṯ ‘al- ‘am·mî yiś·rā·’êl — WLC · 16

Now it was in the heart of my father David to build a house for the Name of the LORD, the God of Israel.

But the LORD said to my father David, ‘Since it was in your heart to build a house for My Name, you have done well… to have this in your heart.

Nevertheless, you are not the one to build it…; but… your son, your own offspring…,… will build the house for My Name.’

Now the LORD has fulfilled the word that He spoke. I have succeeded… my father David, and I sit on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised. I have built the house for the Name of the LORD, the God of Israel.

And there I have provided… a place for the ark, which contains the covenant of the LORD that He made with our fathers when He brought them out of the land of Egypt.”

Then Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in front of the whole assembly of Israel, spread out his hands toward heaven,

Therefore now, O LORD, God of Israel, keep for Your servant, my father David, what You promised when You said: ‘You will never fail to have a man to sit before Me on the throne of Israel, if only your descendants guard their way to walk before Me as you have [done]…’

But will God indeed dwell upon the earth? The heavens, even the highest heavens…, cannot contain You, much less… this temple I have built.

Yet regard the prayer and plea of Your servant, O LORD my God, so that You may hear… the cry… and the prayer that Your servant is praying before You today.

May Your eyes be open toward this temple night and day, toward the place of which You said, ‘My Name shall be there,’ so that You may hear the prayer that Your servant prays toward this place.

then may You hear from heaven and act. May You judge Your servants, condemning the wicked man by bringing down on his own head what he has done, and justifying the righteous man by rewarding him according to his righteousness.

When Your people Israel are defeated before an enemy because they have sinned against You, and they return to You and confess Your name, praying and pleading with You in this temple,

When the skies are shut and there is no rain because [Your people] have sinned against You, and they pray toward this place and confess Your name, and they turn from their sins because You have afflicted them,

then may You hear from heaven and forgive the sin of Your servants, Your people Israel, so that You may teach them the good way in which they should walk May You send rain on the land that You gave Your people as an inheritance.

When famine [or] plague comes upon the land, [or] blight [or] mildew [or] locusts [or] grasshoppers, [or] when their enemy besieges them in their cities, whatever plague [or] sickness [may come],

then may whatever prayer or petition -… Your people Israel make each knowing his own afflictions and spreading out his hands toward this temple—

כָּל־ אֲשֶׁ֤ר תְּפִלָּ֣ה תְּחִנָּ֗ה כָל־ הָ֣אָדָ֔ם לְכֹ֖ל עַמְּךָ֣ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל אֲשֶׁ֣ר תִֽהְיֶה֙ לְכָל־ אִ֚ישׁ יֵדְע֗וּן לְבָב֔וֹ נֶ֣גַע וּפָרַ֥שׂ כַּפָּ֖יו אֶל־ הַזֶּֽה׃ הַבַּ֥יִת kāl- ’ă·šer tə·p̄il·lāh tə·ḥin·nāh ḵāl hā·’ā·ḏām lə·ḵōl ‘am·mə·ḵā yiś·rā·’êl ’ă·šer ṯih·yeh lə·ḵāl ’îš yê·ḏə·‘ūn lə·ḇā·ḇōw ne·ḡa‘ ū·p̄ā·raś kap·pāw ’el- haz·zeh hab·ba·yiṯ — WLC · 38

be heard by You from heaven, Your dwelling place. And may You forgive and act, and repay each man according to all his ways, since You know his heart— for You alone know the hearts of all vvv men—

תִּשְׁמַ֨ע וְ֠אַתָּה הַשָּׁמַ֜יִם שִׁבְתֶּ֙ךָ֙ מְכ֤וֹן וְסָלַחְתָּ֣ וְעָשִׂ֔יתָ וְנָתַתָּ֤ לָאִישׁ֙ כְּכָל־ דְּרָכָ֔יו אֲשֶׁ֥ר תֵּדַ֖ע אֶת־ לְבָב֑וֹ כִּֽי־ אַתָּ֤ה לְבַדְּךָ֔ אֶת־ יָדַ֙עְתָּ֙ לְבַ֖ב כָּל־ בְּנֵ֥י הָאָדָֽם׃ tiš·ma‘ wə·’at·tāh haš·šā·ma·yim šiḇ·te·ḵā mə·ḵō·wn wə·sā·laḥ·tā wə·‘ā·śî·ṯā wə·nā·ṯa·tā lā·’îš kə·ḵāl- də·rā·ḵāw ’ă·šer tê·ḏa‘ ’eṯ- lə·ḇā·ḇōw kî- ’at·tāh lə·ḇad·də·ḵā ’eṯ- yā·ḏa‘·tā lə·ḇaḇ kāl- bə·nê hā·’ā·ḏām — WLC · 39

so that they may fear You all the days they live in… the land that You gave to our fathers.

And as for the foreigner who is not of Your people Israel… but has come from a distant land because of Your name—

וְגַם֙ אֶל־ הַנָּכְרִ֔י אֲשֶׁ֛ר לֹא־ מֵעַמְּךָ֥ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל ה֑וּא וּבָ֛א רְחוֹקָ֖ה מֵאֶ֥רֶץ לְמַ֥עַן שְׁמֶֽךָ׃ wə·ḡam ’el- han·nā·ḵə·rî ’ă·šer lō- mê·‘am·mə·ḵā yiś·rā·’êl hū ū·ḇā rə·ḥō·w·qāh mê·’e·reṣ lə·ma·‘an šə·me·ḵā — WLC · 41

for they will hear of Your great name and mighty hand and outstretched arm— when he comes and prays toward this temple,

then may You hear from heaven, Your dwelling place, and do according to all for which the foreigner calls to You. Then all the peoples of the earth will know Your name and fear You, as [do] Your people Israel, and they will know that this house I have built is called… by Your Name.

אַתָּ֞ה תִּשְׁמַ֤ע הַשָּׁמַ֙יִם֙ שִׁבְתֶּ֔ךָ מְכ֣וֹן וְעָשִׂ֕יתָ כְּכֹ֛ל אֲשֶׁר־ הַנָּכְרִ֑י יִקְרָ֥א אֵלֶ֖יךָ לְמַ֣עַן כָּל־ עַמֵּ֨י הָאָ֜רֶץ אֶת־ יֵדְעוּן֩ שְׁמֶ֗ךָ לְיִרְאָ֤ה אֹֽתְךָ֙ כְּעַמְּךָ֣ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וְלָדַ֕עַת כִּי־ הַזֶּ֖ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר הַבַּ֥יִת בָּנִֽיתִי׃ נִקְרָ֔א עַל־ שִׁמְךָ֣ ’at·tāh tiš·ma‘ haš·šā·ma·yim šiḇ·te·ḵā mə·ḵō·wn wə·‘ā·śî·ṯā kə·ḵōl ’ă·šer- han·nā·ḵə·rî yiq·rā ’ê·le·ḵā lə·ma·‘an kāl- ‘am·mê hā·’ā·reṣ ’eṯ- yê·ḏə·‘ūn šə·me·ḵā lə·yir·’āh ’ō·ṯə·ḵā kə·‘am·mə·ḵā yiś·rā·’êl wə·lā·ḏa·‘aṯ kî- haz·zeh ’ă·šer hab·ba·yiṯ bā·nî·ṯî niq·rā ‘al- šim·ḵā — WLC · 43

When Your people go to war against their enemies, wherever You send them, and when they pray to the LORD in the direction of the city You have chosen and the house I have built for Your Name,

When they sin against You— for there is no one who does not sin— and You become angry with them and deliver them to an enemy who takes them as captives to his own land, whether far or near,

and when they come to their senses in the land to which they were taken,… and they repent and plead with You in the land of their captors, saying, ‘We have sinned and done wrong; we have acted wickedly,’

Now when Solomon had finished praying this entire prayer and petition to the LORD -, he got up before the altar of the LORD, where he had been kneeling… with his hands spread out toward heaven.

And Solomon offered as vvv peace offerings - to the LORD 22,000 {}… oxen and 120,000… sheep. So the king and all the Israelites… dedicated the house of the LORD.

On that same day the king consecrated the middle of the courtyard in front of the house of the LORD, and there he offered the burnt offerings, the grain offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings, since the bronze altar before the LORD was too small to contain [all these offerings] - -…

On the [fifteenth] day [Solomon] sent the people away. So they blessed the king and went home, joyful and glad in heart for all the good things that the LORD had done for His servant David and for His people Israel.
