Chapter 30
The Promise of Restoration
1
[“]- When all these things come upon you— the blessings and curses I have set before you— and you call [them] to mind in all the nations to which the LORD your God… has banished you,
𐤅𐤄𐤉𐤄 𐤊𐤉 𐤊𐤋 𐤄𐤀𐤋𐤄 𐤄𐤃𐤁𐤓𐤉𐤌 𐤉𐤁𐤀𐤅 𐤏𐤋𐤉𐤊 𐤄𐤁𐤓𐤊𐤄 𐤅𐤄𐤒𐤋𐤋𐤄 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤍𐤕𐤕𐤉 𐤋𐤐𐤍𐤉𐤊 𐤅𐤄𐤔𐤁𐤕 𐤀𐤋 𐤋𐤁𐤁𐤊 𐤁𐤊𐤋 𐤄𐤂𐤅𐤉𐤌 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤉𐤊 𐤔𐤌𐤄 𐤄𐤃𐤉𐤇𐤊
וְהָיָה֩ כִֽי־ כָּל־ הָאֵ֗לֶּה הַדְּבָרִ֣ים יָבֹ֨אוּ עָלֶ֜יךָ הַבְּרָכָה֙ וְהַקְּלָלָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר נָתַ֖תִּי לְפָנֶ֑יךָ וַהֲשֵׁבֹתָ֙ אֶל־ לְבָבֶ֔ךָ בְּכָל־ הַגּוֹיִ֔ם אֲשֶׁ֧ר יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ שָֽׁמָּה׃ הִדִּיחֲךָ֛ wə·hā·yāh ḵî- kāl- hā·’êl·leh had·də·ḇā·rîm yā·ḇō·’ū ‘ā·le·ḵā hab·bə·rā·ḵāh wə·haq·qə·lā·lāh ’ă·šer nā·ṯat·tî lə·p̄ā·ne·ḵā wa·hă·šê·ḇō·ṯā ’el- lə·ḇā·ḇe·ḵā bə·ḵāl hag·gō·w·yim ’ă·šer Yah·weh ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā šām·māh hid·dî·ḥă·ḵā — WLC · 1

and when you and your children return to the LORD your God and obey His voice with all your heart and all your soul according to everything I am giving you today,

אַתָּ֣ה וּבָנֶ֔יךָ וְשַׁבְתָּ֞ עַד־ יְהוָ֤ה אֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙ וְשָׁמַעְתָּ֣ בְקֹל֔וֹ כְּכֹ֛ל אֲשֶׁר־ לְבָבְךָ֖ בְּכָל־ נַפְשֶֽׁךָ׃ וּבְכָל־ אָנֹכִ֥י מְצַוְּךָ֖ הַיּ֑וֹם ’at·tāh ū·ḇā·ne·ḵā wə·šaḇ·tā ‘aḏ- Yah·weh ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā wə·šā·ma‘·tā ḇə·qō·lōw kə·ḵōl ’ă·šer- lə·ḇā·ḇə·ḵā bə·ḵāl nap̄·še·ḵā ū·ḇə·ḵāl ’ā·nō·ḵî mə·ṣaw·wə·ḵā hay·yō·wm — WLC · 2

then [He]… will restore you from captivity and have compassion on you… and gather you from all the nations to which the LORD your God… has scattered you.

יְהוָ֧ה אֱלֹהֶ֛יךָ אֶת־ וְשָׁ֨ב שְׁבוּתְךָ֖ וְרִחֲמֶ֑ךָ וְשָׁ֗ב וְקִבֶּצְךָ֙ מִכָּל־ הָ֣עַמִּ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֧ר יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ שָֽׁמָּה׃ הֱפִֽיצְךָ֛ Yah·weh ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā ’eṯ- wə·šāḇ šə·ḇū·ṯə·ḵā wə·ri·ḥă·me·ḵā wə·šāḇ wə·qib·beṣ·ḵā mik·kāl hā·‘am·mîm ’ă·šer Yah·weh ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā šām·māh hĕ·p̄î·ṣə·ḵā — WLC · 3

Even if you have been banished… to the farthest horizon, He… will gather you and return you from there.

אִם־ נִֽדַּחֲךָ֖ יִהְיֶ֥ה בִּקְצֵ֣ה הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ וּמִשָּׁ֖ם יְקַבֶּצְךָ֙ יִקָּחֶֽךָ׃ מִשָּׁ֗ם ’im- nid·da·ḥă·ḵā yih·yeh biq·ṣêh haš·šā·mā·yim Yah·weh ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā ū·miš·šām yə·qab·beṣ·ḵā yiq·qā·ḥe·ḵā miš·šām — WLC · 4

And the LORD your God will bring you into the land your fathers possessed, and you will take possession of it. He will cause you to prosper and multiply more than your fathers.

יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֗יךָ וֶהֱבִֽיאֲךָ֞ אֶל־ הָאָ֛רֶץ אֲשֶׁר־ אֲבֹתֶ֖יךָ יָרְשׁ֥וּ וִֽירִשְׁתָּ֑הּ וְהֵיטִֽבְךָ֥ וְהִרְבְּךָ֖ מֵאֲבֹתֶֽיךָ׃ Yah·weh ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā we·hĕ·ḇî·’ă·ḵā ’el- hā·’ā·reṣ ’ă·šer- ’ă·ḇō·ṯe·ḵā yā·rə·šū wî·riš·tāh wə·hê·ṭiḇ·ḵā wə·hir·bə·ḵā mê·’ă·ḇō·ṯe·ḵā — WLC · 5

The LORD your God will circumcise your hearts and the hearts of your descendants, and you will love Him… with all your heart and with all your soul, so that you may live.

יְהוָ֧ה אֱלֹהֶ֛יךָ אֶת־ וּמָ֨ל לְבָבְךָ֖ וְאֶת־ לְבַ֣ב זַרְעֶ֑ךָ לְאַהֲבָ֞ה אֶת־ יְהוָ֧ה אֱלֹהֶ֛יךָ בְּכָל־ לְבָבְךָ֥ וּבְכָל־ נַפְשְׁךָ֖ לְמַ֥עַן חַיֶּֽיךָ׃ Yah·weh ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā ’eṯ- ū·māl lə·ḇā·ḇə·ḵā wə·’eṯ- lə·ḇaḇ zar·‘e·ḵā lə·’a·hă·ḇāh ’eṯ- Yah·weh ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā bə·ḵāl lə·ḇā·ḇə·ḵā ū·ḇə·ḵāl nap̄·šə·ḵā lə·ma·‘an ḥay·ye·ḵā — WLC · 6

Then the LORD your God will put all these curses upon your enemies… who hate you and persecute you.

יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ אֵ֥ת וְנָתַן֙ כָּל־ הָאֵ֑לֶּה הָאָל֖וֹת עַל־ אֹיְבֶ֥יךָ וְעַל־ אֲשֶׁ֥ר שֹׂנְאֶ֖יךָ רְדָפֽוּךָ׃ Yah·weh ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā ’êṯ wə·nā·ṯan kāl- hā·’êl·leh hā·’ā·lō·wṯ ‘al- ’ō·yə·ḇe·ḵā wə·‘al- ’ă·šer śō·nə·’e·ḵā rə·ḏā·p̄ū·ḵā — WLC · 7

And you will again obey the voice of the LORD and follow all His commandments I am giving you today…
𐤅𐤀𐤕𐤄 𐤕𐤔𐤅𐤁 𐤅𐤔𐤌𐤏𐤕 𐤁𐤒𐤅𐤋 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤅𐤏𐤔𐤉𐤕 𐤀𐤕 𐤊𐤋 𐤌𐤑𐤅𐤕𐤉𐤅 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤀𐤍𐤊𐤉 𐤌𐤑𐤅𐤊 𐤄𐤉𐤅𐤌
וְאַתָּ֣ה תָשׁ֔וּב וְשָׁמַעְתָּ֖ בְּק֣וֹל יְהוָ֑ה וְעָשִׂ֙יתָ֙ אֶת־ כָּל־ מִצְוֺתָ֔יו אֲשֶׁ֛ר אָנֹכִ֥י מְצַוְּךָ֖ הַיּֽוֹם׃ wə·’at·tāh ṯā·šūḇ wə·šā·ma‘·tā bə·qō·wl Yah·weh wə·‘ā·śî·ṯā ’eṯ- kāl- miṣ·wō·ṯāw ’ă·šer ’ā·nō·ḵî mə·ṣaw·wə·ḵā hay·yō·wm — WLC · 8

So the LORD your God will make you abound in all the work of your hands [and] in the fruit of your womb, the offspring of your livestock, and the produce of your land -. Indeed, the LORD will again delight in your prosperity, as He delighted in that of your fathers,

יְהוָ֨ה אֱלֹהֶ֜יךָ וְהוֹתִֽירְךָ֩ בְּכֹ֣ל׀ מַעֲשֵׂ֣ה יָדֶ֗ךָ בִּפְרִ֨י בִטְנְךָ֜ וּבִפְרִ֧י בְהֶמְתְּךָ֛ וּבִפְרִ֥י אַדְמָתְךָ֖ לְטוֹבָ֑ה כִּ֣י׀ יְהוָ֗ה יָשׁ֣וּב לָשׂ֤וּשׂ עָלֶ֙יךָ֙ לְט֔וֹב כַּאֲשֶׁר־ שָׂ֖שׂ עַל־ אֲבֹתֶֽיךָ׃ Yah·weh ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā wə·hō·w·ṯî·rə·ḵā bə·ḵōl ma·‘ă·śêh yā·ḏe·ḵā bip̄·rî ḇiṭ·nə·ḵā ū·ḇip̄·rî ḇə·hem·tə·ḵā ū·ḇip̄·rî ’aḏ·mā·ṯə·ḵā lə·ṭō·w·ḇāh kî Yah·weh yā·šūḇ lā·śūś ‘ā·le·ḵā lə·ṭō·wḇ ka·’ă·šer- śāś ‘al- ’ă·ḇō·ṯe·ḵā — WLC · 9

if you obey… the LORD your God by keeping His commandments and statutes that are written in this Book of the Law, [and] if you turn to Him… with all your heart and with all your soul.

כִּ֣י תִשְׁמַ֗ע בְּקוֹל֙ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ לִשְׁמֹ֤ר מִצְוֺתָיו֙ וְחֻקֹּתָ֔יו הַכְּתוּבָ֕ה הַזֶּ֑ה בְּסֵ֥פֶר הַתּוֹרָ֖ה כִּ֤י תָשׁוּב֙ אֶל־ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֶ֔יךָ בְּכָל־ לְבָבְךָ֖ וּבְכָל־ נַפְשֶֽׁךָ׃פ kî ṯiš·ma‘ bə·qō·wl Yah·weh ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā liš·mōr miṣ·wō·ṯāw wə·ḥuq·qō·ṯāw hak·kə·ṯū·ḇāh haz·zeh bə·sê·p̄er hat·tō·w·rāh kî ṯā·šūḇ ’el- Yah·weh ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā bə·ḵāl lə·ḇā·ḇə·ḵā ū·ḇə·ḵāl nap̄·še·ḵā — WLC · 10
The Choice of Life or Death

For this commandment I give you today is not too difficult… for you or beyond your reach…
𐤊𐤉 𐤄𐤆𐤀𐤕 𐤄𐤌𐤑𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤀𐤍𐤊𐤉 𐤌𐤑𐤅𐤊 𐤄𐤉𐤅𐤌 𐤋𐤀 𐤍𐤐𐤋𐤀𐤕 𐤄𐤅𐤀 𐤌𐤌𐤊 𐤅𐤋𐤀 𐤓𐤇𐤒𐤄 𐤄𐤅𐤀
כִּ֚י הַזֹּ֔את הַמִּצְוָ֣ה אֲשֶׁ֛ר אָנֹכִ֥י מְצַוְּךָ֖ הַיּ֑וֹם לֹֽא־ נִפְלֵ֥את הִוא֙ מִמְּךָ֔ וְלֹ֥א רְחֹקָ֖ה הִֽוא׃ kî haz·zōṯ ham·miṣ·wāh ’ă·šer ’ā·nō·ḵî mə·ṣaw·wə·ḵā hay·yō·wm lō- nip̄·lêṯ hî mim·mə·ḵā wə·lō rə·ḥō·qāh hî — WLC · 11

It is not in heaven, that you should need to ask, ‘Who will ascend into heaven to get it for us and proclaim it, that we may obey it?’
𐤄𐤅𐤀 𐤋𐤀 𐤁𐤔𐤌𐤉𐤌 𐤋𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤌𐤉 𐤉𐤏𐤋𐤄 𐤋𐤍𐤅 𐤄𐤔𐤌𐤉𐤌𐤄 𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤇𐤄 𐤋𐤍𐤅 𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤌𐤏𐤍𐤅 𐤀𐤕𐤄 𐤅𐤍𐤏𐤔𐤍𐤄
הִ֑וא לֹ֥א בַשָּׁמַ֖יִם לֵאמֹ֗ר מִ֣י יַעֲלֶה־ לָּ֤נוּ הַשָּׁמַ֙יְמָה֙ וְיִקָּחֶ֣הָ לָּ֔נוּ וְיַשְׁמִעֵ֥נוּ אֹתָ֖הּ וְנַעֲשֶֽׂנָּה׃ hî lō ḇaš·šā·ma·yim lê·mōr mî ya·‘ă·leh- lā·nū haš·šā·may·māh wə·yiq·qā·ḥe·hā lā·nū wə·yaš·mi·‘ê·nū ’ō·ṯāh wə·na·‘ă·śen·nāh — WLC · 12

And it is not beyond the sea, that you should need to ask, ‘Who will cross… the sea to get it for us and proclaim it, that we may obey it?’

הִ֑וא וְלֹֽא־ מֵעֵ֥בֶר לַיָּ֖ם לֵאמֹ֗ר מִ֣י יַעֲבָר־ לָ֜נוּ אֶל־ עֵ֤בֶר הַיָּם֙ וְיִקָּחֶ֣הָ לָּ֔נוּ וְיַשְׁמִעֵ֥נוּ אֹתָ֖הּ וְנַעֲשֶֽׂנָּה׃ hî wə·lō- mê·‘ê·ḇer lay·yām lê·mōr mî ya·‘ă·ḇār- lā·nū ’el- ‘ê·ḇer hay·yām wə·yiq·qā·ḥe·hā lā·nū wə·yaš·mi·‘ê·nū ’ō·ṯāh wə·na·‘ă·śen·nāh — WLC · 13

But the word [is] very near you; [it is] in your mouth and in your heart, so that you may obey it.

כִּֽי־ הַדָּבָ֖ר מְאֹ֑ד קָר֥וֹב אֵלֶ֛יךָ בְּפִ֥יךָ וּבִֽלְבָבְךָ֖ לַעֲשֹׂתֽוֹ׃ס kî- had·dā·ḇār mə·’ōḏ qā·rō·wḇ ’ê·le·ḵā bə·p̄î·ḵā ū·ḇil·ḇā·ḇə·ḵā la·‘ă·śō·ṯōw — WLC · 14

See, I have set before you today life and prosperity, as well as death and disaster.

רְאֵ֨ה נָתַ֤תִּי לְפָנֶ֙יךָ֙ הַיּ֔וֹם אֶת־ הַֽחַיִּ֖ים וְאֶת־ הַטּ֑וֹב וְאֶת־ הַמָּ֖וֶת וְאֶת־ הָרָֽע׃ rə·’êh nā·ṯat·tî lə·p̄ā·ne·ḵā hay·yō·wm ’eṯ- ha·ḥay·yîm wə·’eṯ- haṭ·ṭō·wḇ wə·’eṯ- ham·mā·weṯ wə·’eṯ- hā·rā‘ — WLC · 15

For I am commanding you today to love the LORD your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments, statutes, and ordinances, so that you may live and increase, and the LORD your God may bless you in the land that you are entering… to possess.

But if your heart turns away and you do not listen, but are drawn away to bow down to other gods and worship them,

I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you today that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing. Therefore choose life, so that you and your descendants may live,

and that you may love the LORD your God, obey Him,… and hold fast to Him. For He [is] your life, and He will prolong your life… in the land that the LORD swore to give… to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”
