Laws about Offerings

“Speak to the Israelites… and tell them: After you enter… the land that I am giving you as a home

דַּבֵּר֙ אֶל־ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וְאָמַרְתָּ֖ כִּ֣י תָבֹ֗אוּ אֶל־ אֲלֵהֶ֑ם אֶ֙רֶץ֙ אֲשֶׁ֥ר אֲנִ֖י נֹתֵ֥ן לָכֶֽם׃ מוֹשְׁבֹ֣תֵיכֶ֔ם dab·bêr ’el- bə·nê yiś·rā·’êl wə·’ā·mar·tā kî ṯā·ḇō·’ū ’el- ’ă·lê·hem ’e·reṣ ’ă·šer ’ă·nî nō·ṯên lā·ḵem mō·wō·šə·ḇō·ṯê·ḵem — WLC · 2

and you present a food offering to the LORD from the herd or… flock to produce a pleasing aroma to the LORD— either a burnt offering or a sacrifice, for a special vow or freewill offering or appointed feast—

וַעֲשִׂיתֶ֨ם אִשֶּׁ֤ה לַֽיהוָה֙ מִן־ הַבָּקָ֖ר א֥וֹ מִן־ הַצֹּֽאן׃ לַעֲשׂ֞וֹת נִיחֹ֙חַ֙ רֵ֤יחַ לַֽיהוָ֔ה עֹלָ֣ה אוֹ־ זֶ֔בַח לְפַלֵּא־ נֶ֙דֶר֙ א֣וֹ בִנְדָבָ֔ה א֖וֹ בְּמֹעֲדֵיכֶ֑ם wa·‘ă·śî·ṯem ’iš·šeh Yah·weh min- hab·bā·qār ’ōw min- haṣ·ṣōn la·‘ă·śō·wṯ nî·ḥō·aḥ rê·aḥ Yah·weh ‘ō·lāh ’ōw- ze·ḇaḥ lə·p̄al·lê- ne·ḏer ’ōw ḇin·ḏā·ḇāh ’ōw bə·mō·‘ă·ḏê·ḵem — WLC · 3

then the one presenting his offering to the LORD shall also present a grain offering of a tenth of an ephah of fine flour mixed with a quarter hin of olive oil.

וְהִקְרִ֛יב קָרְבָּנ֖וֹ לַֽיהוָ֑ה הַמַּקְרִ֥יב מִנְחָה֙ עִשָּׂר֔וֹן סֹ֣לֶת בָּל֕וּל בִּרְבִעִ֥ית הַהִ֖ין שָֽׁמֶן׃ wə·hiq·rîḇ qā·rə·bā·nōw Yah·weh ham·maq·rîḇ min·ḥāh ‘iś·śā·rō·wn sō·leṯ bā·lūl bir·ḇi·‘îṯ ha·hîn šā·men — WLC · 4

With the burnt offering or sacrifice of each lamb, you are to prepare a quarter hin of wine as a drink offering.

עַל־ הָעֹלָ֖ה א֣וֹ לַזָּ֑בַח הָאֶחָֽד׃ לַכֶּ֖בֶשׂ תַּעֲשֶׂ֥ה רְבִיעִ֣ית הַהִ֔ין וְיַ֤יִן לַנֶּ֙סֶךְ֙ ‘al- hā·‘ō·lāh ’ōw laz·zā·ḇaḥ hā·’e·ḥāḏ lak·ke·ḇeś ta·‘ă·śeh rə·ḇî·‘îṯ ha·hîn wə·ya·yin lan·ne·seḵ — WLC · 5

- With a ram you are to prepare a grain offering of two-tenths [of an ephah]… of fine flour mixed with a third of a hin of olive oil,

[and] a third of a hin of wine as a drink offering, a pleasing aroma to the LORD.

When you prepare a young bull as a burnt offering or sacrifice to fulfill a vow or as a peace offering to the LORD,
𐤅𐤊𐤉 𐤕𐤏𐤔𐤄 𐤁𐤍 𐤁𐤒𐤓 𐤏𐤋𐤄 𐤀𐤅 𐤆𐤁𐤇 𐤋𐤐𐤋𐤀 𐤍𐤃𐤓 𐤀𐤅 𐤔𐤋𐤌𐤉𐤌 𐤋𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄
וְכִֽי־ תַעֲשֶׂ֥ה בֶן־ בָּקָ֖ר עֹלָ֣ה אוֹ־ זָ֑בַח לְפַלֵּא־ נֶ֥דֶר אֽוֹ־ שְׁלָמִ֖ים לַֽיהוָֽה׃ wə·ḵî- ṯa·‘ă·śeh ḇen- bā·qār ‘ō·lāh ’ōw- zā·ḇaḥ lə·p̄al·lê- ne·ḏer ’ōw- šə·lā·mîm Yah·weh — WLC · 8

present with… the bull a grain offering of three-tenths [of an ephah]… of fine flour mixed with half a hin of olive oil.

Also present half a hin of wine as a drink offering. It is a food offering, a pleasing aroma to the LORD.

This is to be done for each bull, ram,… lamb…, or goat.

כָּ֣כָה יֵעָשֶׂ֗ה הָֽאֶחָ֔ד לַשּׁוֹר֙ א֖וֹ לָאַ֣יִל הָאֶחָ֑ד אֽוֹ־ לַשֶּׂ֥ה בַכְּבָשִׂ֖ים א֥וֹ בָעִזִּֽים׃ kā·ḵāh yê·‘ā·śeh hā·’e·ḥāḏ laš·šō·wr ’ōw lā·’a·yil hā·’e·ḥāḏ ’ōw- laś·śeh ḇak·kə·ḇā·śîm ’ōw ḇā·‘iz·zîm — WLC · 11

This is how you must prepare… each one…, no matter how many.

כָּ֛כָה תַּעֲשׂ֑וּ תַּעֲשׂ֥וּ לָאֶחָ֖ד כְּמִסְפָּרָֽם׃ אֲשֶׁ֣ר כַּמִּסְפָּ֖ר kā·ḵāh ta·‘ă·śū ta·‘ă·śū lā·’e·ḥāḏ kə·mis·pā·rām ’ă·šer kam·mis·pār — WLC · 12

Everyone who is native-born shall prepare these things in this way when he presents a food offering as a pleasing aroma to the LORD.
𐤊𐤋 𐤄𐤀𐤆𐤓𐤇 𐤉𐤏𐤔𐤄 𐤀𐤋𐤄 𐤊𐤊𐤄 𐤀𐤕 𐤋𐤄𐤒𐤓𐤉𐤁 𐤀𐤔𐤄 𐤍𐤉𐤇𐤇 𐤓𐤉𐤇 𐤋𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄
כָּל־ הָאֶזְרָ֥ח יַעֲשֶׂה־ אֵ֑לֶּה כָּ֖כָה אֶת־ לְהַקְרִ֛יב אִשֵּׁ֥ה נִיחֹ֖חַ רֵֽיחַ־ לַֽיהוָֽה׃ kāl- hā·’ez·rāḥ ya·‘ă·śeh- ’êl·leh kā·ḵāh ’eṯ- lə·haq·rîḇ ’iš·šêh nî·ḥō·aḥ rê·aḥ- Yah·weh — WLC · 13

And for the generations to come, if a foreigner residing with you or someone else among you wants to prepare a food offering as a pleasing aroma to the LORD, he is to do… exactly as you do.

לְדֹרֹ֣תֵיכֶ֔ם וְכִֽי־ גֵּ֜ר יָגוּר֩ אִתְּכֶ֨ם א֤וֹ אֲשֶֽׁר־ בְּתֽוֹכְכֶם֙ וְעָשָׂ֛ה אִשֵּׁ֥ה נִיחֹ֖חַ רֵֽיחַ־ לַיהוָ֑ה תַּעֲשׂ֖וּ כֵּ֥ן כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר יַעֲשֶֽׂה׃ lə·ḏō·rō·ṯê·ḵem wə·ḵî- gêr yā·ḡūr ’it·tə·ḵem ’ōw ’ă·šer- bə·ṯō·wḵ·ḵem wə·‘ā·śāh ’iš·šêh nî·ḥō·aḥ rê·aḥ- Yah·weh ta·‘ă·śū kên ka·’ă·šer ya·‘ă·śeh — WLC · 14

The assembly is to have the same statute both for you and for the foreign resident…; it is a permanent statute for the generations to come You and the foreigner shall be the same before the LORD.

הַקָּהָ֕ל אַחַ֛ת חֻקָּ֥ה לָכֶ֖ם וְלַגֵּ֣ר הַגָּ֑ר עוֹלָם֙ חֻקַּ֤ת לְדֹרֹ֣תֵיכֶ֔ם כָּכֶ֛ם כַּגֵּ֥ר יִהְיֶ֖ה לִפְנֵ֥י יְהוָֽה׃ haq·qā·hāl ’a·ḥaṯ ḥuq·qāh lā·ḵem wə·lag·gêr hag·gār ‘ō·w·lām ḥuq·qaṯ lə·ḏō·rō·ṯê·ḵem kā·ḵem kag·gêr yih·yeh lip̄·nê Yah·weh — WLC · 15

The same law and the same ordinance will apply both to you and to the foreigner residing with you.”

Then the LORD… said to Moses…,

and you eat the food of the land,… you shall lift up an offering to the LORD.

בַּאֲכָלְכֶ֖ם מִלֶּ֣חֶם הָאָ֑רֶץ וְהָיָ֕ה תָּרִ֥ימוּ תְרוּמָ֖ה לַיהוָֽה׃ ba·’ă·ḵā·lə·ḵem mil·le·ḥem hā·’ā·reṣ wə·hā·yāh tā·rî·mū ṯə·rū·māh Yah·weh — WLC · 19

From the first of your dough, you are to lift up a cake as a contribution; offer it just like an offering from the threshing floor.

רֵאשִׁית֙ עֲרִסֹ֣תֵכֶ֔ם תָּרִ֣ימוּ חַלָּ֖ה תְרוּמָ֑ה תָּרִ֥ימוּ אֹתָֽהּ׃ כֵּ֖ן כִּתְרוּמַ֣ת גֹּ֔רֶן rê·šîṯ ‘ă·ri·sō·ṯê·ḵem tā·rî·mū ḥal·lāh ṯə·rū·māh tā·rî·mū ’ō·ṯāh kên kiṯ·rū·maṯ gō·ren — WLC · 20

Throughout your generations, you are to give the LORD an offering from the first of your dough.

Offerings for Unintentional Sins

Now if you stray unintentionally and do not obey all these commandments that the LORD has spoken to Moses—

וְכִ֣י תִשְׁגּ֔וּ וְלֹ֣א תַעֲשׂ֔וּ אֵ֥ת כָּל־ הָאֵ֑לֶּה הַמִּצְוֺ֖ת אֲשֶׁר־ יְהוָ֖ה דִּבֶּ֥ר אֶל־ מֹשֶֽׁה׃ wə·ḵî ṯiš·gū wə·lō ṯa·‘ă·śū ’êṯ kāl- hā·’êl·leh ham·miṣ·wōṯ ’ă·šer- Yah·weh dib·ber ’el- mō·šeh — WLC · 22

- all that the LORD… has commanded you through Moses from the day the LORD gave them and continuing through the generations to come—

- and if it was done unintentionally without the knowledge of the congregation, then the whole congregation is to prepare one young bull… as a burnt offering, a pleasing aroma to the LORD, with its grain offering and drink offering according to the regulation, and one male goat… as a sin offering.

The priest is to make atonement for the whole congregation… of Israel, so that they may be forgiven for [the sin] was unintentional and they have brought to the LORD vvv a food offering and a sin offering, [presented] before the LORD for their unintentional sin.

Then the whole congregation… of Israel and the foreigners residing among them will be forgiven, since it happened to all the people unintentionally.

Also, if one person sins unintentionally, he is to present a year-old… female goat as a sin offering.

You shall have the same law for the one who acts in error, whether he is a native-born Israelite… or a foreigner residing among you.

But the person who vvv sins defiantly…, whether a native or foreigner, blasphemes the LORD. That person… shall be cut off from among his people.

A Sabbath-Breaker Stoned

While the Israelites… were in the wilderness, a man was found gathering wood on the Sabbath day.

Those who found [the man] gathering wood brought him to Moses,… Aaron,… and the whole congregation,

And the LORD said to Moses, “The man must surely be put to death… The whole congregation is to stone… him outside the camp.”

These will serve as tassels for you to look at, so that you may remember all the commandments of the LORD, that you may obey them and not prostitute yourselves… by following… your own heart… and your own eyes -.
