Chapter 6

Sins Requiring a Guilt Offering

And the LORD said to Moses…,

𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤅𐤉𐤃𐤁𐤓 𐤀𐤋 𐤌𐤔𐤄 𐤋𐤀𐤌𐤓

יְהוָ֖ה וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר אֶל־ מֹשֶׁ֥ה לֵּאמֹֽר׃ Yah·weh way·ḏab·bêr ’el- mō·šeh lê·mōrWLC · 1

“If someone sins and acts unfaithfully against the LORD by deceiving his neighbor in regard to a deposit or security entrusted to him or stolen,… or if he extorts his neighbor

𐤊𐤉 𐤍𐤐𐤔 𐤕𐤇𐤈𐤀 𐤅𐤌𐤏𐤋𐤄 𐤌𐤏𐤋 𐤁𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤅𐤊𐤇𐤔 𐤁𐤏𐤌𐤉𐤕𐤅 𐤁𐤐𐤒𐤃𐤅𐤍 𐤁𐤕𐤔𐤅𐤌𐤕 𐤉𐤃 𐤀𐤅 𐤁𐤂𐤆𐤋 𐤀𐤅 𐤀𐤅 𐤏𐤔𐤒 𐤀𐤕 𐤏𐤌𐤉𐤕𐤅

כִּ֣י נֶ֚פֶשׁ תֶחֱטָ֔א וּמָעֲלָ֥ה מַ֖עַל בַּיהוָ֑ה וְכִחֵ֨שׁ בַּעֲמִית֜וֹ בְּפִקָּד֗וֹן בִתְשׂ֤וּמֶת יָד֙ אֽוֹ־ בְגָזֵ֔ל א֖וֹ א֣וֹ עָשַׁ֥ק אֶת־ עֲמִיתֽוֹ׃ kî ne·p̄eš ṯe·ḥĕ·ṭā ū·mā·‘ă·lāh ma·‘al Yah·weh wə·ḵi·ḥêš ba·‘ă·mî·ṯōw bə·p̄iq·qā·ḏō·wn ḇiṯ·śū·meṯ yāḏ ’ōw- ḇə·ḡā·zêl ’ōw ’ōw ‘ā·šaq ’eṯ- ‘ă·mî·ṯōwWLC · 2

or finds lost property and lies about it and swears falsely -, or if he commits any such sin… that… a man might commit—

אֽוֹ־ מָצָ֧א אֲבֵדָ֛ה וְכִ֥חֶשׁ בָּ֖הּ וְנִשְׁבַּ֣ע עַל־ שָׁ֑קֶר עַל־ לַחֲטֹ֥א אַחַ֗ת מִכֹּ֛ל אֲשֶׁר־ בָהֵֽנָּה׃ הָאָדָ֖ם יַעֲשֶׂ֥ה ’ōw- mā·ṣā ’ă·ḇê·ḏāh wə·ḵi·ḥeš bāh wə·niš·ba‘ ‘al- šā·qer ‘al- la·ḥă·ṭō ’a·ḥaṯ mik·kōl ’ă·šer- ḇā·hên·nāh hā·’ā·ḏām ya·‘ă·śehWLC · 3

  • once he has sinned and becomes guilty, he must return what… he has stolen or - taken by extortion, or the deposit entrusted to him, or the lost property he found,

𐤅𐤄𐤉𐤄 𐤊𐤉 𐤉𐤇𐤈𐤀 𐤅𐤀𐤔𐤌 𐤅𐤄𐤔𐤉𐤁 𐤀𐤕 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤂𐤆𐤋 𐤄𐤂𐤆𐤋𐤄 𐤀𐤅 𐤀𐤕 𐤄𐤏𐤔𐤒 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤏𐤔𐤒 𐤀𐤅 𐤀𐤕 𐤄𐤐𐤒𐤃𐤅𐤍 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤄𐤐𐤒𐤃 𐤀𐤕𐤅 𐤀𐤅 𐤀𐤕 𐤄𐤀𐤁𐤃𐤄 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤌𐤑𐤀

וְהָיָה֮ כִּֽי־ יֶחֱטָ֣א וְאָשֵׁם֒ וְהֵשִׁ֨יב אֶת־ אֲשֶׁ֣ר גָּזָ֗ל הַגְּזֵלָ֜ה א֤וֹ אֶת־ הָעֹ֙שֶׁק֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשָׁ֔ק א֚וֹ אֶת־ הַפִּקָּד֔וֹן אֲשֶׁ֥ר הָפְקַ֖ד אִתּ֑וֹ א֥וֹ אֶת־ הָאֲבֵדָ֖ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר מָצָֽא׃ wə·hā·yāh kî- ye·ḥĕ·ṭā wə·’ā·šêm wə·hê·šîḇ ’eṯ- ’ă·šer gā·zāl hag·gə·zê·lāh ’ōw ’eṯ- hā·‘ō·šeq ’ă·šer ‘ā·šāq ’ōw ’eṯ- hap·piq·qā·ḏō·wn ’ă·šer hā·p̄ə·qaḏ ’it·tōw ’ōw ’eṯ- hā·’ă·ḇê·ḏāh ’ă·šer mā·ṣāWLC · 4

or anything else about which he has sworn falsely. He must make restitution in full -, add a fifth of the value, and pay it to the owner… on the day [he acknowledges] his guilt.

א֠וֹ מִכֹּ֞ל עָלָיו֮ אֲשֶׁר־ יִשָּׁבַ֣ע לַשֶּׁקֶר֒ בְּרֹאשׁ֔וֹ וְשִׁלַּ֤ם אֹתוֹ֙ יֹסֵ֣ף וַחֲמִשִׁתָ֖יו עָלָ֑יו יִתְּנֶ֖נּוּ לַאֲשֶׁ֨ר ה֥וּא ל֛וֹ בְּי֥וֹם אַשְׁמָתֽוֹ׃ ’ōw mik·kōl ‘ā·lāw ’ă·šer- yiš·šā·ḇa‘ laš·še·qer bə·rō·šōw wə·šil·lam ’ō·ṯōw yō·sêp̄ wa·ḥă·mi·ši·ṯāw ‘ā·lāw yit·tə·nen·nū la·’ă·šer hū lōw bə·yō·wm ’aš·mā·ṯōwWLC · 5

  • Then he must bring to the priest his guilt offering to the LORD: an unblemished ram of proper value from the flock -.

𐤅𐤀𐤕 𐤉𐤁𐤉𐤀 𐤀𐤋 𐤄𐤊𐤄𐤍 𐤀𐤔𐤌𐤅 𐤋𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤕𐤌𐤉𐤌 𐤀𐤉𐤋 𐤁𐤏𐤓𐤊𐤊 𐤌𐤍 𐤄𐤑𐤀𐤍 𐤋𐤀𐤔𐤌

וְאֶת־ יָבִ֖יא אֶל־ הַכֹּהֵֽן׃ אֲשָׁמ֥וֹ לַיהוָ֑ה תָּמִ֧ים אַ֣יִל בְּעֶרְכְּךָ֥ מִן־ הַצֹּ֛אן לְאָשָׁ֖ם wə·’eṯ- yā·ḇî ’el- hak·kō·hên ’ă·šā·mōw Yah·weh tā·mîm ’a·yil bə·‘er·kə·ḵā min- haṣ·ṣōn lə·’ā·šāmWLC · 6

In this way the priest will make atonement for him before the LORD, and he will be forgiven for anything… he may have done to incur guilt

הַכֹּהֵ֛ן וְכִפֶּ֨ר עָלָ֧יו לִפְנֵ֥י יְהוָ֖ה וְנִסְלַ֣ח ל֑וֹ עַל־ אַחַ֛ת מִכֹּ֥ל אֲשֶֽׁר־ יַעֲשֶׂ֖ה לְאַשְׁמָ֥ה בָֽהּ׃פ hak·kō·hên wə·ḵip·per ‘ā·lāw lip̄·nê Yah·weh wə·nis·laḥ lōw ‘al- ’a·ḥaṯ mik·kōl ’ă·šer- ya·‘ă·śeh lə·’aš·māh ḇāhWLC · 7

The Burnt Offering

Then the LORD said to Moses…,

𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤅𐤉𐤃𐤁𐤓 𐤀𐤋 𐤌𐤔𐤄 𐤋𐤀𐤌𐤓

יְהוָ֖ה וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר אֶל־ מֹשֶׁ֥ה לֵּאמֹֽר׃ Yah·weh way·ḏab·bêr ’el- mō·šeh lê·mōrWLC · 8

“Command Aaron and his sons… [that] this is the law of the burnt offering: The burnt offering… is to remain on the hearth of the altar all night, until morning, and the fire must be kept burning on the altar

𐤑𐤅 𐤀𐤕 𐤀𐤄𐤓𐤍 𐤅𐤀𐤕 𐤁𐤍𐤉𐤅 𐤋𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤆𐤀𐤕 𐤕𐤅𐤓𐤕 𐤄𐤏𐤋𐤄 𐤄𐤏𐤋𐤄 𐤄𐤅𐤀 𐤏𐤋 𐤏𐤋 𐤌𐤅𐤒𐤃𐤄 𐤄𐤌𐤆𐤁𐤇 𐤊𐤋 𐤄𐤋𐤉𐤋𐤄 𐤏𐤃 𐤄𐤁𐤒𐤓 𐤅𐤀𐤔 𐤕𐤅𐤒𐤃 𐤄𐤌𐤆𐤁𐤇 𐤁𐤅

צַ֤ו אֶֽת־ אַהֲרֹן֙ וְאֶת־ בָּנָ֣יו לֵאמֹ֔ר זֹ֥את תּוֹרַ֖ת הָעֹלָ֑ה הָעֹלָ֡ה הִ֣וא עַל֩ עַל־ מוֹקְדָ֨ה הַמִּזְבֵּ֤חַ כָּל־ הַלַּ֙יְלָה֙ עַד־ הַבֹּ֔קֶר וְאֵ֥שׁ תּ֥וּקַד הַמִּזְבֵּ֖חַ בּֽוֹ׃ ṣaw ’eṯ- ’a·hă·rōn wə·’eṯ- bā·nāw lê·mōr zōṯ tō·w·raṯ hā·‘ō·lāh hā·‘ō·lāh hî ‘al ‘al- mō·wq·ḏāh ham·miz·bê·aḥ kāl- hal·lay·lāh ‘aḏ- hab·bō·qer wə·’êš tū·qaḏ ham·miz·bê·aḥ bōwWLC · 9

And the priest shall put on his linen robe and linen… undergarments…, and he shall remove from the altar the ashes of the burnt offering… that the fire has consumed and place them beside [it].

𐤄𐤊𐤄𐤍 𐤅𐤋𐤁𐤔 𐤁𐤃 𐤌𐤃𐤅 𐤁𐤃 𐤉𐤋𐤁𐤔 𐤅𐤌𐤊𐤍𐤎𐤉 𐤏𐤋 𐤁𐤔𐤓𐤅 𐤅𐤄𐤓𐤉𐤌 𐤀𐤕 𐤄𐤌𐤆𐤁𐤇 𐤄𐤃𐤔𐤍 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤄𐤏𐤋𐤄 𐤏𐤋 𐤄𐤀𐤔 𐤀𐤕 𐤕𐤀𐤊𐤋 𐤅𐤔𐤌𐤅 𐤀𐤑𐤋 𐤄𐤌𐤆𐤁𐤇

הַכֹּהֵ֜ן וְלָבַ֨שׁ בַ֗ד מִדּ֣וֹ בַד֮ יִלְבַּ֣שׁ וּמִֽכְנְסֵי־ עַל־ בְּשָׂרוֹ֒ וְהֵרִ֣ים אֶת־ הַמִּזְבֵּ֑חַ הַדֶּ֗שֶׁן אֲשֶׁ֨ר הָעֹלָ֖ה עַל־ הָאֵ֛שׁ אֶת־ תֹּאכַ֥ל וְשָׂמ֕וֹ אֵ֖צֶל הַמִּזְבֵּֽחַ׃ hak·kō·hên wə·lā·ḇaš ḇaḏ mid·dōw ḇaḏ yil·baš ū·miḵ·nə·sê- ‘al- bə·śā·rōw wə·hê·rîm ’eṯ- ham·miz·bê·aḥ had·de·šen ’ă·šer hā·‘ō·lāh ‘al- hā·’êš ’eṯ- tō·ḵal wə·śā·mōw ’ê·ṣel ham·miz·bê·aḥWLC · 10

Then he must take off his garments, put on other clothes, and carry the ashes outside the camp… to a ceremonially clean place.

𐤅𐤐𐤔𐤈 𐤀𐤕 𐤁𐤂𐤃𐤉𐤅 𐤅𐤋𐤁𐤔 𐤀𐤇𐤓𐤉𐤌 𐤁𐤂𐤃𐤉𐤌 𐤅𐤄𐤅𐤑𐤉𐤀 𐤀𐤕 𐤄𐤃𐤔𐤍 𐤌𐤇𐤅𐤑 𐤋𐤌𐤇𐤍𐤄 𐤀𐤋 𐤀𐤋 𐤈𐤄𐤅𐤓 𐤌𐤒𐤅𐤌

וּפָשַׁט֙ אֶת־ בְּגָדָ֔יו וְלָבַ֖שׁ אֲחֵרִ֑ים בְּגָדִ֣ים וְהוֹצִ֤יא אֶת־ הַדֶּ֙שֶׁן֙ מִח֣וּץ לַֽמַּחֲנֶ֔ה אֶל־ אֶל־ טָהֽוֹר׃ מָק֖וֹם ū·p̄ā·šaṭ ’eṯ- bə·ḡā·ḏāw wə·lā·ḇaš ’ă·ḥê·rîm bə·ḡā·ḏîm wə·hō·w·ṣî ’eṯ- had·de·šen mi·ḥūṣ lam·ma·ḥă·neh ’el- ’el- ṭā·hō·wr mā·qō·wmWLC · 11

The fire on the altar shall be kept burning it must not be extinguished. Every morning… the priest is to add wood to the fire, arrange the burnt offering on it, and burn the fat portions of the peace offerings on it.

וְהָאֵ֨שׁ עַל־ הַמִּזְבֵּ֤חַ תּֽוּקַד־ בּוֹ֙ לֹ֣א תִכְבֶּ֔ה בַּבֹּ֣קֶר בַּבֹּ֑קֶר הַכֹּהֵ֛ן וּבִעֵ֨ר עֵצִ֖ים עָלֶ֧יהָ וְעָרַ֤ךְ הָֽעֹלָ֔ה עָלֶ֙יהָ֙ וְהִקְטִ֥יר חֶלְבֵ֥י הַשְּׁלָמִֽים׃ עָלֶ֖יהָ wə·hā·’êš ‘al- ham·miz·bê·aḥ tū·qaḏ- bōw lō ṯiḵ·beh bab·bō·qer bab·bō·qer hak·kō·hên ū·ḇi·‘êr ‘ê·ṣîm ‘ā·le·hā wə·‘ā·raḵ hā·‘ō·lāh ‘ā·le·hā wə·hiq·ṭîr ḥel·ḇê haš·šə·lā·mîm ‘ā·le·hāWLC · 12

The fire shall be kept burning on the altar continually; it must not be extinguished.

אֵ֗שׁ תּוּקַ֥ד עַל־ הַמִּזְבֵּ֖חַ תָּמִ֛יד לֹ֥א תִכְבֶֽה׃ס ’êš tū·qaḏ ‘al- ham·miz·bê·aḥ tā·mîḏ lō ṯiḵ·ḇɛhWLC · 13

The Grain Offering

Now this is the law of the grain offering: Aaron’s sons shall present it before the LORD in front of the altar.

𐤅𐤆𐤀𐤕 𐤕𐤅𐤓𐤕 𐤄𐤌𐤍𐤇𐤄 𐤀𐤄𐤓𐤍 𐤁𐤍𐤉 𐤄𐤒𐤓𐤁 𐤀𐤕𐤄 𐤋𐤐𐤍𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤋 𐤐𐤍𐤉 𐤄𐤌𐤆𐤁𐤇

וְזֹ֥את תּוֹרַ֖ת הַמִּנְחָ֑ה אַהֲרֹן֙ בְּנֵֽי־ הַקְרֵ֨ב אֹתָ֤הּ לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֔ה אֶל־ פְּנֵ֖י הַמִּזְבֵּֽחַ׃ wə·zōṯ tō·w·raṯ ham·min·ḥāh ’a·hă·rōn bə·nê- haq·rêḇ ’ō·ṯāh lip̄·nê Yah·weh ’el- pə·nê ham·miz·bê·aḥWLC · 14

The priest is to remove a handful of fine flour and olive oil -, together with all the frankincense from the grain offering, and burn the memorial portion on the altar as a pleasing aroma to the LORD.

𐤅𐤄𐤓𐤉𐤌 𐤁𐤒𐤌𐤑𐤅 𐤌𐤌𐤍𐤅 𐤌𐤎𐤋𐤕 𐤄𐤌𐤍𐤇𐤄 𐤅𐤌𐤔𐤌𐤍𐤄 𐤅𐤀𐤕 𐤊𐤋 𐤄𐤋𐤁𐤍𐤄 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤏𐤋 𐤄𐤌𐤍𐤇𐤄 𐤅𐤄𐤒𐤈𐤉𐤓 𐤀𐤆𐤊𐤓𐤕𐤄 𐤄𐤌𐤆𐤁𐤇 𐤍𐤉𐤇𐤇 𐤓𐤉𐤇 𐤋𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄

וְהֵרִ֨ים בְּקֻמְצ֗וֹ מִמֶּ֜נּוּ מִסֹּ֤לֶת הַמִּנְחָה֙ וּמִשַּׁמְנָ֔הּ וְאֵת֙ כָּל־ הַלְּבֹנָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֖ר עַל־ הַמִּנְחָ֑ה וְהִקְטִ֣יר אַזְכָּרָתָ֖הּ הַמִּזְבֵּ֗חַ נִיחֹ֛חַ רֵ֧יחַ לַיהוָֽה׃ wə·hê·rîm bə·qum·ṣōw mim·men·nū mis·sō·leṯ ham·min·ḥāh ū·miš·šam·nāh wə·’êṯ kāl- hal·lə·ḇō·nāh ’ă·šer ‘al- ham·min·ḥāh wə·hiq·ṭîr ’az·kā·rā·ṯāh ham·miz·bê·aḥ nî·ḥō·aḥ rê·aḥ Yah·wehWLC · 15

Aaron and his sons are to eat the remainder It must be eaten without leaven in a holy place; they are to eat it in the courtyard of the Tent of Meeting.

𐤀𐤄𐤓𐤍 𐤅𐤁𐤍𐤉𐤅 𐤉𐤀𐤊𐤋𐤅 𐤅𐤄𐤍𐤅𐤕𐤓𐤕 𐤌𐤌𐤍𐤄 𐤕𐤀𐤊𐤋 𐤌𐤑𐤅𐤕 𐤒𐤃𐤔 𐤁𐤌𐤒𐤅𐤌 𐤉𐤀𐤊𐤋𐤅𐤄 𐤁𐤇𐤑𐤓 𐤀𐤄𐤋 𐤌𐤅𐤏𐤃

אַהֲרֹ֣ן וּבָנָ֑יו יֹאכְל֖וּ וְהַנּוֹתֶ֣רֶת מִמֶּ֔נָּה תֵּֽאָכֵל֙ מַצּ֤וֹת קָדֹ֔שׁ בְּמָק֣וֹם יֹאכְלֽוּהָ׃ בַּחֲצַ֥ר אֹֽהֶל־ מוֹעֵ֖ד ’a·hă·rōn ū·ḇā·nāw yō·ḵə·lū wə·han·nō·w·ṯe·reṯ mim·men·nāh tê·’ā·ḵêl maṣ·ṣō·wṯ qā·ḏōš bə·mā·qō·wm yō·ḵə·lū·hā ba·ḥă·ṣar ’ō·hel- mō·w·‘êḏWLC · 16

It must not be baked with leaven; I have assigned it as their portion of My food offerings. It [is] most holy, like the sin offering and the guilt offering.

𐤋𐤀 𐤕𐤀𐤐𐤄 𐤇𐤌𐤑 𐤍𐤕𐤕𐤉 𐤀𐤕𐤄 𐤇𐤋𐤒𐤌 𐤌𐤀𐤔𐤉 𐤄𐤅𐤀 𐤒𐤃𐤔 𐤒𐤃𐤔𐤉𐤌 𐤊𐤇𐤈𐤀𐤕 𐤅𐤊𐤀𐤔𐤌

לֹ֤א תֵאָפֶה֙ חָמֵ֔ץ נָתַ֥תִּי אֹתָ֖הּ חֶלְקָ֛ם מֵאִשָּׁ֑י הִ֔וא קֹ֤דֶשׁ קָֽדָשִׁים֙ כַּחַטָּ֖את וְכָאָשָֽׁם׃ lō ṯê·’ā·p̄eh ḥā·mêṣ nā·ṯat·tî ’ō·ṯāh ḥel·qām mê·’iš·šāy hî qō·ḏeš qā·ḏā·šîm ka·ḥaṭ·ṭāṯ wə·ḵā·’ā·šāmWLC · 17

Any male among the sons of Aaron may eat it. This is a permanent portion from the food offerings to the LORD for the generations to come. Anything that touches them will become holy.”

Then the LORD said to Moses…,

𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤅𐤉𐤃𐤁𐤓 𐤀𐤋 𐤌𐤔𐤄 𐤋𐤀𐤌𐤓

יְהוָ֖ה וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר אֶל־ מֹשֶׁ֥ה לֵּאמֹֽר׃ Yah·weh way·ḏab·bêr ’el- mō·šeh lê·mōrWLC · 19

“This is the offering that Aaron and his sons must present to the LORD on the day he is anointed: a tenth of an ephah of fine flour as a regular grain offering, half of it in the morning and half in the evening.

זֶ֡ה קָרְבַּן֩ אַהֲרֹ֨ן וּבָנָ֜יו אֲשֶׁר־ יַקְרִ֣יבוּ לַֽיהוָ֗ה בְּיוֹם֙ הִמָּשַׁ֣ח אֹת֔וֹ עֲשִׂירִ֨ת הָאֵפָ֥ה סֹ֛לֶת תָּמִ֑יד מִנְחָ֖ה מַחֲצִיתָ֣הּ בַּבֹּ֔קֶר וּמַחֲצִיתָ֖הּ בָּעָֽרֶב׃ zeh qā·rə·ban ’a·hă·rōn ū·ḇā·nāw ’ă·šer- yaq·rî·ḇū Yah·weh bə·yō·wm him·mā·šaḥ ’ō·ṯōw ‘ă·śî·riṯ hā·’ê·p̄āh sō·leṯ tā·mîḏ min·ḥāh ma·ḥă·ṣî·ṯāh bab·bō·qer ū·ma·ḥă·ṣî·ṯāh bā·‘ā·reḇWLC · 20

It shall be prepared with oil on a griddle; you are to bring it well-kneaded and present it as a grain offering broken in pieces, a pleasing aroma to the LORD.

תֵּעָשֶׂ֖ה בַּשֶּׁ֛מֶן עַֽל־ מַחֲבַ֗ת תְּבִיאֶ֑נָּה מֻרְבֶּ֣כֶת תַּקְרִ֥יב מִנְחַ֣ת תֻּפִינֵי֙ פִּתִּ֔ים נִיחֹ֖חַ רֵֽיחַ־ לַיהוָֽה׃ tê·‘ā·śeh baš·še·men ‘al- ma·ḥă·ḇaṯ tə·ḇî·’en·nāh mur·be·ḵeṯ taq·rîḇ min·ḥaṯ tu·p̄î·nê pit·tîm nî·ḥō·aḥ rê·aḥ- Yah·wehWLC · 21

The priest, who is one of Aaron’s sons and will be anointed to take his place, is to prepare it. As a permanent portion for the LORD, it must be burned completely.

וְהַכֹּהֵ֨ן מִבָּנָ֖יו הַמָּשִׁ֧יחַ תַּחְתָּ֛יו יַעֲשֶׂ֣ה אֹתָ֑הּ עוֹלָ֕ם חָק־ לַיהוָ֖ה תָּקְטָֽר׃ כָּלִ֥יל wə·hak·kō·hên mib·bā·nāw ham·mā·šî·aḥ taḥ·tāw ya·‘ă·śeh ’ō·ṯāh ‘ō·w·lām ḥāq- Yah·weh tā·qə·ṭār kā·lîlWLC · 22

Every grain offering for a priest shall be burned completely; it is not to be eaten.”

The Sin Offering

And the LORD said to Moses…,

𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤅𐤉𐤃𐤁𐤓 𐤀𐤋 𐤌𐤔𐤄 𐤋𐤀𐤌𐤓

יְהוָ֖ה וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר אֶל־ מֹשֶׁ֥ה לֵּאמֹֽר׃ Yah·weh way·ḏab·bêr ’el- mō·šeh lê·mōrWLC · 24

“Tell… Aaron… and his sons… [that] this is the law of the sin offering: In the place where the burnt offering is slaughtered, the sin offering shall be slaughtered before the LORD; it [is] most holy…

The priest who offers it shall eat it; it must be eaten in a holy place, in the courtyard of the Tent of Meeting.

Anything that touches its flesh will become holy, and if any of the blood is spattered on a garment, you must wash it… in a holy place.

כֹּ֛ל אֲשֶׁר־ יִגַּ֥ע בִּבְשָׂרָ֖הּ יִקְדָּ֑שׁ וַאֲשֶׁ֨ר מִדָּמָהּ֙ יִזֶּ֤ה עַל־ הַבֶּ֔גֶד תְּכַבֵּ֖ס אֲשֶׁר֙ יִזֶּ֣ה עָלֶ֔יהָ קָדֹֽשׁ׃ בְּמָק֥וֹם kōl ’ă·šer- yig·ga‘ biḇ·śā·rāh yiq·dāš wa·’ă·šer mid·dā·māh yiz·zeh ‘al- hab·be·ḡeḏ tə·ḵab·bês ’ă·šer yiz·zeh ‘ā·le·hā qā·ḏōš bə·mā·qō·wmWLC · 27

The clay pot in which [the sin offering] is boiled must be broken; if it is boiled in a bronze pot, [the pot] must be scoured and rinsed with water.

חֶ֛רֶשׂ וּכְלִי־ אֲשֶׁ֥ר תְּבֻשַּׁל־ בּ֖וֹ יִשָּׁבֵ֑ר וְאִם־ בֻּשָּׁ֔לָה נְחֹ֙שֶׁת֙ בִּכְלִ֤י וּמֹרַ֥ק וְשֻׁטַּ֖ף בַּמָּֽיִם׃ ḥe·reś ū·ḵə·lî- ’ă·šer tə·ḇuš·šal- bōw yiš·šā·ḇêr wə·’im- buš·šā·lāh nə·ḥō·šeṯ biḵ·lî ū·mō·raq wə·šuṭ·ṭap̄ bam·mā·yimWLC · 28

Any male among the priests may eat it; it [is] most holy.

  • But no sin offering may be eaten if its blood has been brought into the Tent of Meeting to make atonement in the Holy Place;… it must be burned.
