Chapter 10

The Sin of Nadab and Abihu

1

Now Aaron’s sons Nadab and Abihu took their censers, put fire in them and added incense -, and offered unauthorized fire before the LORD, contrary to His command -.

𐤀𐤄𐤓𐤍 𐤁𐤍𐤉 𐤍𐤃𐤁 𐤅𐤀𐤁𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤀 𐤀𐤉𐤔 𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤇𐤅 𐤌𐤇𐤕𐤕𐤅 𐤅𐤉𐤕𐤍𐤅 𐤀𐤔 𐤁𐤄𐤍 𐤅𐤉𐤔𐤉𐤌𐤅 𐤒𐤈𐤓𐤕 𐤏𐤋𐤉𐤄 𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤓𐤁𐤅 𐤆𐤓𐤄 𐤀𐤔 𐤋𐤐𐤍𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤋𐤀 𐤑𐤅𐤄 𐤀𐤕𐤌

אַ֠הֲרֹן בְנֵֽי־ נָדָ֨ב וַאֲבִיה֜וּא אִ֣ישׁ וַיִּקְח֣וּ מַחְתָּת֗וֹ וַיִּתְּנ֤וּ אֵ֔שׁ בָהֵן֙ וַיָּשִׂ֥ימוּ קְטֹ֑רֶת עָלֶ֖יהָ וַיַּקְרִ֜בוּ זָרָ֔ה אֵ֣שׁ לִפְנֵ֤י יְהוָה֙ אֲשֶׁ֧ר לֹ֦א צִוָּ֖ה אֹתָֽם׃ ’a·hă·rōn ḇə·nê- nā·ḏāḇ wa·’ă·ḇî·hū ’îš way·yiq·ḥū maḥ·tā·ṯōw way·yit·tə·nū ’êš ḇā·hên way·yā·śî·mū qə·ṭō·reṯ ‘ā·le·hā way·yaq·ri·ḇū zā·rāh ’êš lip̄·nê Yah·weh ’ă·šer lō ṣiw·wāh ’ō·ṯāmWLC · 1

So fire came out from the presence of the LORD and consumed them, and they died in the presence of the LORD.

אֵ֛שׁ וַתֵּ֥צֵא מִלִּפְנֵ֥י יְהוָ֖ה וַתֹּ֣אכַל אוֹתָ֑ם וַיָּמֻ֖תוּ לִפְנֵ֥י יְהוָֽה׃ ’êš wat·tê·ṣê mil·lip̄·nê Yah·weh wat·tō·ḵal ’ō·w·ṯām way·yā·mu·ṯū lip̄·nê Yah·wehWLC · 2

Then Moses said to Aaron, “This is what the LORD meant when He said: ‘To those who come near Me I will show My holiness, and in the sight of all the people I will reveal My glory.’” But Aaron remained silent.

מֹשֶׁ֜ה וַיֹּ֨אמֶר אֶֽל־ אַהֲרֹ֗ן הוּא֩ אֲשֶׁר־ יְהוָ֤ה׀ דִּבֶּ֨ר לֵאמֹר֙ בִּקְרֹבַ֣י אֶקָּדֵ֔שׁ וְעַל־ פְּנֵ֥י כָל־ הָעָ֖ם אֶכָּבֵ֑ד אַהֲרֹֽן׃ וַיִּדֹּ֖ם mō·šeh way·yō·mer ’el- ’a·hă·rōn hū ’ă·šer- Yah·weh dib·ber lê·mōr biq·rō·ḇay ’eq·qā·ḏêš wə·‘al- pə·nê ḵāl hā·‘ām ’ek·kā·ḇêḏ ’a·hă·rōn way·yid·dōmWLC · 3

Moses summoned Mishael and Elzaphan, sons of Aaron’s uncle Uzziel, and said to them, “Come here; carry the bodies of your cousins outside the camp, away from the front of the sanctuary…”

𐤌𐤔𐤄 𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤓𐤀 𐤀𐤋 𐤌𐤉𐤔𐤀𐤋 𐤅𐤀𐤋 𐤀𐤋𐤑𐤐𐤍 𐤁𐤍𐤉 𐤀𐤄𐤓𐤍 𐤃𐤃 𐤏𐤆𐤉𐤀𐤋 𐤅𐤉𐤀𐤌𐤓 𐤀𐤋𐤄𐤌 𐤒𐤓𐤁𐤅 𐤔𐤀𐤅 𐤀𐤕 𐤀𐤇𐤉𐤊𐤌 𐤌𐤀𐤕 𐤌𐤇𐤅𐤑 𐤋𐤌𐤇𐤍𐤄 𐤐𐤍𐤉 𐤄𐤒𐤃𐤔 𐤀𐤋

מֹשֶׁ֗ה וַיִּקְרָ֣א אֶל־ מִֽישָׁאֵל֙ וְאֶ֣ל אֶלְצָפָ֔ן בְּנֵ֥י אַהֲרֹ֑ן דֹּ֣ד עֻזִּיאֵ֖ל וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֲלֵהֶ֗ם קִ֠רְב֞וּ שְׂא֤וּ אֶת־ אֲחֵיכֶם֙ מֵאֵ֣ת מִח֖וּץ לַֽמַּחֲנֶֽה׃ פְּנֵי־ הַקֹּ֔דֶשׁ אֶל־ mō·šeh way·yiq·rā ’el- mî·šā·’êl wə·’el ’el·ṣā·p̄ān bə·nê ’a·hă·rōn dōḏ ‘uz·zî·’êl way·yō·mer ’ă·lê·hem qir·ḇū śə·’ū ’eṯ- ’ă·ḥê·ḵem mê·’êṯ mi·ḥūṣ lam·ma·ḥă·neh pə·nê- haq·qō·ḏeš ’el-WLC · 4

So they came forward and carried them, still in their tunics,… outside the camp, as Moses had directed.

וַֽיִּקְרְב֗וּ וַיִּשָּׂאֻם֙ בְּכֻתֳּנֹתָ֔ם אֶל־ מִח֖וּץ לַֽמַּחֲנֶ֑ה כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר מֹשֶֽׁה׃ דִּבֶּ֥ר way·yiq·rə·ḇū way·yiś·śā·’um bə·ḵut·to·nō·ṯām ’el- mi·ḥūṣ lam·ma·ḥă·neh ka·’ă·šer mō·šeh dib·berWLC · 5

Then Moses said to Aaron and his sons Eleazar and Ithamar, “Do not let your hair become disheveled and do not tear your garments, or else you will die, and the LORD will be angry with the whole congregation. But your brothers, the whole house of Israel, may mourn [on account of] the fire that the LORD has ignited.

מֹשֶׁ֣ה וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֶֽל־ אַהֲרֹ֡ן בָּנָ֜יו וּלְאֶלְעָזָר֩ וּלְאִֽיתָמָ֨ר׀ אַל־ רָֽאשֵׁיכֶ֥ם תִּפְרָ֣עוּ׀ לֹֽא־ תִפְרֹ֙מוּ֙ וּבִגְדֵיכֶ֤ם וְלֹ֣א תָמֻ֔תוּ יִקְצֹ֑ף וְעַ֥ל כָּל־ הָעֵדָ֖ה וַאֲחֵיכֶם֙ כָּל־ בֵּ֣ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל יִבְכּוּ֙ אֶת־ הַשְּׂרֵפָ֔ה אֲשֶׁ֖ר יְהוָֽה׃ שָׂרַ֥ף mō·šeh way·yō·mer ’el- ’a·hă·rōn bā·nāw ū·lə·’el·‘ā·zār ū·lə·’î·ṯā·mār ’al- rā·šê·ḵem tip̄·rā·‘ū lō- ṯip̄·rō·mū ū·ḇiḡ·ḏê·ḵem wə·lō ṯā·mu·ṯū yiq·ṣōp̄ wə·‘al kāl- hā·‘ê·ḏāh wa·’ă·ḥê·ḵem kāl- bêṯ yiś·rā·’êl yiḇ·kū ’eṯ- haś·śə·rê·p̄āh ’ă·šer Yah·weh śā·rap̄WLC · 6

You shall not go outside the entrance to the Tent of Meeting, or you will die, for the LORD’s anointing oil is on you.” So they did as Moses instructed.

𐤋𐤀 𐤕𐤑𐤀𐤅 𐤅𐤌𐤐𐤕𐤇 𐤀𐤄𐤋 𐤌𐤅𐤏𐤃 𐤐𐤍 𐤕𐤌𐤕𐤅 𐤊𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤌𐤔𐤇𐤕 𐤔𐤌𐤍 𐤏𐤋𐤉𐤊𐤌 𐤅𐤉𐤏𐤔𐤅 𐤌𐤔𐤄𐤐 𐤊𐤃𐤁𐤓

לֹ֤א תֵֽצְאוּ֙ וּמִפֶּתַח֩ אֹ֨הֶל מוֹעֵ֜ד פֶּן־ תָּמֻ֔תוּ כִּי־ יְהוָ֖ה מִשְׁחַ֥ת שֶׁ֛מֶן עֲלֵיכֶ֑ם וַֽיַּעֲשׂ֖וּ מֹשֶֽׁה׃פ כִּדְבַ֥ר lō ṯê·ṣə·’ū ū·mip·pe·ṯaḥ ’ō·hel mō·w·‘êḏ pen- tā·mu·ṯū kî- Yah·weh miš·ḥaṯ še·men ‘ă·lê·ḵem way·ya·‘ă·śū mō·šeh kiḏ·ḇarWLC · 7

Restrictions for Priests

Then the LORD said to Aaron…,

𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤅𐤉𐤃𐤁𐤓 𐤀𐤋 𐤀𐤄𐤓𐤍 𐤋𐤀𐤌𐤓

יְהוָ֔ה וַיְדַבֵּ֣ר אֶֽל־ אַהֲרֹ֖ן לֵאמֹֽר׃ Yah·weh way·ḏab·bêr ’el- ’a·hă·rōn lê·mōrWLC · 8

“You and your sons… are not to drink wine or strong drink when you enter… the Tent of Meeting, or else you will die; this is a permanent statute for the generations to come.

𐤀𐤕𐤄 𐤅𐤁𐤍𐤉𐤊 𐤀𐤕𐤊 𐤀𐤋 𐤕𐤔𐤕 𐤉𐤉𐤍 𐤅𐤔𐤊𐤓 𐤁𐤁𐤀𐤊𐤌 𐤀𐤋 𐤀𐤄𐤋 𐤌𐤅𐤏𐤃 𐤅𐤋𐤀 𐤕𐤌𐤕𐤅 𐤏𐤅𐤋𐤌 𐤇𐤒𐤕 𐤋𐤃𐤓𐤕𐤉𐤊𐤌

אַתָּ֣ה׀ וּבָנֶ֣יךָ אִתָּ֗ךְ אַל־ תֵּ֣שְׁתְּ׀ יַ֣יִן וְשֵׁכָ֞ר בְּבֹאֲכֶ֛ם אֶל־ אֹ֥הֶל מוֹעֵ֖ד וְלֹ֣א תָמֻ֑תוּ עוֹלָ֖ם חֻקַּ֥ת לְדֹרֹתֵיכֶֽם׃ ’at·tāh ū·ḇā·ne·ḵā ’it·tāḵ ’al- tê·šət ya·yin wə·šê·ḵār bə·ḇō·’ă·ḵem ’el- ’ō·hel mō·w·‘êḏ wə·lō ṯā·mu·ṯū ‘ō·w·lām ḥuq·qaṯ lə·ḏō·rō·ṯê·ḵemWLC · 9

You must distinguish between the holy… and the common, between the clean and the unclean…,

𐤅𐤋𐤄𐤁𐤃𐤉𐤋 𐤁𐤉𐤍 𐤄𐤒𐤃𐤔 𐤅𐤁𐤉𐤍 𐤄𐤇𐤋 𐤅𐤁𐤉𐤍 𐤄𐤈𐤄𐤅𐤓 𐤄𐤈𐤌𐤀 𐤅𐤁𐤉𐤍

וּֽלֲהַבְדִּ֔יל בֵּ֥ין הַקֹּ֖דֶשׁ וּבֵ֣ין הַחֹ֑ל וּבֵ֥ין הַטָּהֽוֹר׃ הַטָּמֵ֖א וּבֵ֥ין ū·lă·haḇ·dîl bên haq·qō·ḏeš ū·ḇên ha·ḥōl ū·ḇên haṭ·ṭā·hō·wr haṭ·ṭā·mê ū·ḇênWLC · 10

so that you may teach the Israelites… all the statutes that the LORD has given them through Moses.”

𐤅𐤋𐤄𐤅𐤓𐤕 𐤀𐤕 𐤁𐤍𐤉 𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋 𐤀𐤕 𐤊𐤋 𐤄𐤇𐤒𐤉𐤌 𐤀𐤔𐤓 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤃𐤁𐤓 𐤀𐤋𐤉𐤄𐤌 𐤁𐤉𐤃 𐤌𐤔𐤄𐤐

וּלְהוֹרֹ֖ת אֶת־ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל אֵ֚ת כָּל־ הַ֣חֻקִּ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֨ר יְהוָ֛ה דִּבֶּ֧ר אֲלֵיהֶ֖ם בְּיַד־ מֹשֶֽׁה׃פ ū·lə·hō·w·rōṯ ’eṯ- bə·nê yiś·rā·’êl ’êṯ kāl- ha·ḥuq·qîm ’ă·šer Yah·weh dib·ber ’ă·lê·hem bə·yaḏ- mō·šehWLC · 11

And Moses said to Aaron… and his remaining sons, Eleazar… and Ithamar, “Take the grain offering that remains from the food offerings to the LORD and eat it without leaven beside the altar, because it [is] most holy.

𐤌𐤔𐤄 𐤅𐤉𐤃𐤁𐤓 𐤀𐤋 𐤀𐤄𐤓𐤍 𐤅𐤀𐤋 𐤄𐤍𐤅𐤕𐤓𐤉𐤌 𐤁𐤍𐤉𐤅 𐤀𐤋𐤏𐤆𐤓 𐤅𐤀𐤋 𐤀𐤉𐤕𐤌𐤓 𐤒𐤇𐤅 𐤀𐤕 𐤄𐤌𐤍𐤇𐤄 𐤄𐤍𐤅𐤕𐤓𐤕 𐤌𐤀𐤔𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤅𐤀𐤊𐤋𐤅𐤄 𐤌𐤑𐤅𐤕 𐤀𐤑𐤋 𐤄𐤌𐤆𐤁𐤇 𐤊𐤉 𐤄𐤅𐤀 𐤒𐤃𐤔 𐤒𐤃𐤔𐤉𐤌

מֹשֶׁ֜ה וַיְדַבֵּ֨ר אֶֽל־ אַהֲרֹ֗ן וְאֶ֣ל הַנּֽוֹתָרִים֒ בָּנָיו֮ אֶ֠לְעָזָר וְאֶל־ אִ֨יתָמָ֥ר׀ קְח֣וּ אֶת־ הַמִּנְחָ֗ה הַנּוֹתֶ֙רֶת֙ מֵאִשֵּׁ֣י יְהוָ֔ה וְאִכְל֥וּהָ מַצּ֖וֹת אֵ֣צֶל הַמִּזְבֵּ֑חַ כִּ֛י הִֽוא׃ קֹ֥דֶשׁ קָֽדָשִׁ֖ים mō·šeh way·ḏab·bêr ’el- ’a·hă·rōn wə·’el han·nō·w·ṯā·rîm bā·nāw ’el·‘ā·zār wə·’el- ’î·ṯā·mār qə·ḥū ’eṯ- ham·min·ḥāh han·nō·w·ṯe·reṯ mê·’iš·šê Yah·weh wə·’iḵ·lū·hā maṣ·ṣō·wṯ ’ê·ṣel ham·miz·bê·aḥ kî hî qō·ḏeš qā·ḏā·šîmWLC · 12

You shall eat it in a holy place, because it is your share… and your sons’ share of the food offerings to the LORD; for this is what I have been commanded.

𐤅𐤀𐤊𐤋𐤕𐤌 𐤀𐤕𐤄 𐤒𐤃𐤔 𐤁𐤌𐤒𐤅𐤌 𐤊𐤉 𐤄𐤅𐤀 𐤇𐤒𐤊 𐤅𐤇𐤒 𐤁𐤍𐤉𐤊 𐤌𐤀𐤔𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 𐤊𐤉 𐤊𐤍 𐤑𐤅𐤉𐤕𐤉

וַאֲכַלְתֶּ֤ם אֹתָהּ֙ קָדֹ֔שׁ בְּמָק֣וֹם כִּ֣י הִ֔וא חָקְךָ֤ וְחָק־ בָּנֶ֙יךָ֙ מֵאִשֵּׁ֖י יְהוָ֑ה כִּי־ כֵ֖ן צֻוֵּֽיתִי׃ wa·’ă·ḵal·tem ’ō·ṯāh qā·ḏōš bə·mā·qō·wm kî hî ḥā·qə·ḵā wə·ḥāq- bā·ne·ḵā mê·’iš·šê Yah·weh kî- ḵên ṣuw·wê·ṯîWLC · 13

And you and your sons and daughters… may eat the breast of the wave offering and the thigh of the contribution in a ceremonially clean place, because these portions… have been assigned to you and your children vvv from the peace offerings of the sons of Israel.

𐤅𐤀𐤕 𐤀𐤕𐤄 𐤅𐤁𐤍𐤉𐤊 𐤅𐤁𐤍𐤕𐤉𐤊 𐤀𐤕𐤊 𐤕𐤀𐤊𐤋𐤅 𐤇𐤆𐤄 𐤄𐤕𐤍𐤅𐤐𐤄 𐤅𐤀𐤕 𐤔𐤅𐤒 𐤄𐤕𐤓𐤅𐤌𐤄 𐤈𐤄𐤅𐤓 𐤁𐤌𐤒𐤅𐤌 𐤊𐤉 𐤇𐤒𐤊 𐤅𐤇𐤒 𐤍𐤕𐤍𐤅 𐤁𐤍𐤉𐤊 𐤌𐤆𐤁𐤇𐤉 𐤔𐤋𐤌𐤉 𐤁𐤍𐤉 𐤉𐤔𐤓𐤀𐤋

וְאֵת֩ אַתָּ֕ה וּבָנֶ֥יךָ וּבְנֹתֶ֖יךָ אִתָּ֑ךְ תֹּֽאכְלוּ֙ חֲזֵ֨ה הַתְּנוּפָ֜ה וְאֵ֣ת׀ שׁ֣וֹק הַתְּרוּמָ֗ה טָה֔וֹר בְּמָק֣וֹם כִּֽי־ חָקְךָ֤ וְחָק־ נִתְּנ֔וּ בָּנֶ֙יךָ֙ מִזִּבְחֵ֥י שַׁלְמֵ֖י בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ wə·’êṯ ’at·tāh ū·ḇā·ne·ḵā ū·ḇə·nō·ṯe·ḵā ’it·tāḵ tō·ḵə·lū ḥă·zêh hat·tə·nū·p̄āh wə·’êṯ šō·wq hat·tə·rū·māh ṭā·hō·wr bə·mā·qō·wm kî- ḥā·qə·ḵā wə·ḥāq- nit·tə·nū bā·ne·ḵā miz·ziḇ·ḥê šal·mê bə·nê yiś·rā·’êlWLC · 14

They are to bring the thigh of the contribution and the breast of the wave offering, together with the fat portions of the food offerings, to wave as a wave offering before the LORD. It will belong permanently to you and your children,… as the LORD has commanded.”

Later, Moses searched carefully… for the goat of the sin offering, and behold, it had been burned up. He was angry with Eleazar… and Ithamar, Aaron’s remaining sons, and asked,

𐤅𐤀𐤕 𐤌𐤔𐤄 𐤃𐤓𐤔 𐤃𐤓𐤔 𐤔𐤏𐤉𐤓 𐤄𐤇𐤈𐤀𐤕 𐤅𐤄𐤍𐤄 𐤔𐤓𐤐 𐤅𐤉𐤒𐤑𐤐 𐤏𐤋 𐤀𐤋𐤏𐤆𐤓 𐤅𐤏𐤋 𐤀𐤉𐤕𐤌𐤓 𐤀𐤄𐤓𐤍 𐤄𐤍𐤅𐤕𐤓𐤌 𐤁𐤍𐤉 𐤋𐤀𐤌𐤓

וְאֵ֣ת׀ מֹשֶׁ֖ה דָּרֹ֥שׁ דָּרַ֛שׁ שְׂעִ֣יר הַֽחַטָּ֗את וְהִנֵּ֣ה שֹׂרָ֑ף וַ֠יִּקְצֹף עַל־ אֶלְעָזָ֤ר וְעַל־ אִֽיתָמָר֙ אַהֲרֹ֔ן הַנּוֹתָרִ֖ם בְּנֵ֣י לֵאמֹֽר׃ wə·’êṯ mō·šeh dā·rōš dā·raš śə·‘îr ha·ḥaṭ·ṭāṯ wə·hin·nêh śō·rāp̄ way·yiq·ṣōp̄ ‘al- ’el·‘ā·zār wə·‘al- ’î·ṯā·mār ’a·hă·rōn han·nō·w·ṯā·rim bə·nê lê·mōrWLC · 16

“Why didn’t you eat the sin offering in the holy place? For it is most holy; it was given to you to take away the guilt of the congregation by making atonement for them before the LORD.

𐤌𐤃𐤅𐤏 𐤋𐤀 𐤀𐤊𐤋𐤕𐤌 𐤀𐤕 𐤄𐤇𐤈𐤀𐤕 𐤄𐤒𐤃𐤔 𐤁𐤌𐤒𐤅𐤌 𐤊𐤉 𐤄𐤅𐤀 𐤅𐤀𐤕𐤄 𐤒𐤃𐤔 𐤒𐤃𐤔𐤉𐤌 𐤍𐤕𐤍 𐤋𐤊𐤌 𐤋𐤔𐤀𐤕 𐤀𐤕 𐤏𐤅𐤍 𐤄𐤏𐤃𐤄 𐤋𐤊𐤐𐤓 𐤏𐤋𐤉𐤄𐤌 𐤋𐤐𐤍𐤉 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄

מַדּ֗וּעַ לֹֽא־ אֲכַלְתֶּ֤ם אֶת־ הַֽחַטָּאת֙ הַקֹּ֔דֶשׁ בִּמְק֣וֹם כִּ֛י הִ֑וא וְאֹתָ֣הּ׀ קֹ֥דֶשׁ קָֽדָשִׁ֖ים נָתַ֣ן לָכֶ֗ם לָשֵׂאת֙ אֶת־ עֲוֺ֣ן הָעֵדָ֔ה לְכַפֵּ֥ר עֲלֵיהֶ֖ם לִפְנֵ֥י יְהוָֽה׃ mad·dū·a‘ lō- ’ă·ḵal·tem ’eṯ- ha·ḥaṭ·ṭāṯ haq·qō·ḏeš bim·qō·wm kî hî wə·’ō·ṯāh qō·ḏeš qā·ḏā·šîm nā·ṯan lā·ḵem lā·śêṯ ’eṯ- ‘ă·wōn hā·‘ê·ḏāh lə·ḵap·pêr ‘ă·lê·hem lip̄·nê Yah·wehWLC · 17

Since its blood… was not brought inside the holy [place], you should have eaten… it in the sanctuary area, as I commanded.”

הֵ֚ן דָּמָ֔הּ אֶל־ לֹא־ הוּבָ֣א אֶת־ פְּנִ֑ימָה הַקֹּ֖דֶשׁ אָכ֨וֹל תֹּאכְל֥וּ אֹתָ֛הּ בַּקֹּ֖דֶשׁ כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר צִוֵּֽיתִי׃ hên dā·māh ’el- lō- hū·ḇā ’eṯ- pə·nî·māh haq·qō·ḏeš ’ā·ḵō·wl tō·ḵə·lū ’ō·ṯāh baq·qō·ḏeš ka·’ă·šer ṣiw·wê·ṯîWLC · 18

But Aaron replied to Moses, “Behold, this very day they presented their sin offering and their burnt offering before the LORD. Since these things have happened to me, if I had eaten the sin offering today, would it have been acceptable in the sight of the LORD?”

אַהֲרֹ֜ן וַיְדַבֵּ֨ר אֶל־ מֹשֶׁ֗ה הֵ֣ן הַ֠יּוֹם הִקְרִ֨יבוּ אֶת־ חַטָּאתָ֤ם וְאֶת־ עֹֽלָתָם֙ לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֔ה כָּאֵ֑לֶּה וַתִּקְרֶ֥אנָה אֹתִ֖י וְאָכַ֤לְתִּי חַטָּאת֙ הַיּ֔וֹם הַיִּיטַ֖ב בְּעֵינֵ֥י יְהוָֽה׃ ’a·hă·rōn way·ḏab·bêr ’el- mō·šeh hên hay·yō·wm hiq·rî·ḇū ’eṯ- ḥaṭ·ṭā·ṯām wə·’eṯ- ‘ō·lā·ṯām lip̄·nê Yah·weh kā·’êl·leh wat·tiq·re·nāh ’ō·ṯî wə·’ā·ḵal·tî ḥaṭ·ṭāṯ hay·yō·wm hay·yî·ṭaḇ bə·‘ê·nê Yah·wehWLC · 19

And when Moses heard this [explanation], he was satisfied…
