The Altar of Incense

[“]You are also to make an altar - of acacia wood for the burning of incense.

וְעָשִׂ֥יתָ מִזְבֵּ֖חַ תַּעֲשֶׂ֥ה אֹתֽוֹ׃ שִׁטִּ֖ים עֲצֵ֥י מִקְטַ֣ר קְטֹ֑רֶת wə·‘ā·śî·ṯā miz·bê·aḥ ta·‘ă·śeh ’ō·ṯōw šiṭ·ṭîm ‘ă·ṣê miq·ṭar qə·ṭō·reṯ — WLC · 1

It is to be square, a cubit long, a cubit wide, and two cubits high. Its horns must be of one piece.

Overlay with pure gold the top and all the sides and horns, and make a molding of gold around it.

וְצִפִּיתָ֨ אֹת֜וֹ טָה֗וֹר אֶת־ זָהָ֣ב גַּגּ֧וֹ וְאֶת־ סָבִ֖יב וְאֶת־ קִירֹתָ֛יו קַרְנֹתָ֑יו וְעָשִׂ֥יתָ לּ֛וֹ זֵ֥ר זָהָ֖ב סָבִֽיב׃ wə·ṣip·pî·ṯā ’ō·ṯōw ṭā·hō·wr ’eṯ- zā·hāḇ gag·gōw wə·’eṯ- sā·ḇîḇ wə·’eṯ- qî·rō·ṯāw qar·nō·ṯāw wə·‘ā·śî·ṯā lōw zêr zā·hāḇ sā·ḇîḇ — WLC · 3

And make two gold rings below the molding - - on… opposite sides to hold the poles used to carry it -.

Make the poles of acacia wood and overlay them with gold.

Place [the altar] in front of the veil that is before the ark of the Testimony before the mercy seat that is over the Testimony— where I will meet with you…

And Aaron is to burn fragrant incense on it every morning… when he tends the lamps.

אַהֲרֹ֖ן וְהִקְטִ֥יר סַמִּ֑ים קְטֹ֣רֶת עָלָ֛יו יַקְטִירֶֽנָּה׃ בַּבֹּ֣קֶר בַּבֹּ֗קֶר בְּהֵיטִיב֛וֹ אֶת־ הַנֵּרֹ֖ת ’a·hă·rōn wə·hiq·ṭîr sam·mîm qə·ṭō·reṯ ‘ā·lāw yaq·ṭî·ren·nāh bab·bō·qer bab·bō·qer bə·hê·ṭî·ḇōw ’eṯ- han·nê·rōṯ — WLC · 7

When Aaron sets up the lamps at twilight, he must burn the incense perpetually before the LORD for the generations to come.

אַהֲרֹ֧ן אֶת־ וּבְהַעֲלֹ֨ת הַנֵּרֹ֛ת בֵּ֥ין הָעֲרְבַּ֖יִם יַקְטִירֶ֑נָּה קְטֹ֧רֶת תָּמִ֛יד לִפְנֵ֥י יְהוָ֖ה לְדֹרֹתֵיכֶֽם׃ ’a·hă·rōn ’eṯ- ū·ḇə·ha·‘ă·lōṯ han·nê·rōṯ bên hā·‘ăr·ba·yim yaq·ṭî·ren·nāh qə·ṭō·reṯ tā·mîḏ lip̄·nê Yah·weh lə·ḏō·rō·ṯê·ḵem — WLC · 8

On [this altar] you must not offer unauthorized incense or a burnt offering or grain offering; nor are you to pour a drink offering on it.

עָלָ֛יו לֹא־ תַעֲל֥וּ זָרָ֖ה קְטֹ֥רֶת וְעֹלָ֣ה וּמִנְחָ֑ה לֹ֥א תִסְּכ֖וּ וְנֵ֕סֶךְ עָלָֽיו׃ ‘ā·lāw lō- ṯa·‘ă·lū zā·rāh qə·ṭō·reṯ wə·‘ō·lāh ū·min·ḥāh lō ṯis·sə·ḵū wə·nê·seḵ ‘ā·lāw — WLC · 9

Once a year Aaron shall make atonement on the horns [of the altar]. Throughout your generations he shall make atonement on it annually… with the blood of the sin offering of atonement. The altar [is] most holy to the LORD.”

אַחַ֖ת בַּשָּׁנָ֑ה אַהֲרֹן֙ וְכִפֶּ֤ר עַל־ קַרְנֹתָ֔יו לְדֹרֹ֣תֵיכֶ֔ם יְכַפֵּ֤ר עָלָיו֙ אַחַ֤ת בַּשָּׁנָה֙ מִדַּ֞ם חַטַּ֣את הַכִּפֻּרִ֗ים ה֖וּא קֹֽדֶשׁ־ קָֽדָשִׁ֥ים לַיהוָֽה׃פ ’a·ḥaṯ baš·šā·nāh ’a·hă·rōn wə·ḵip·per ‘al- qar·nō·ṯāw lə·ḏō·rō·ṯê·ḵem yə·ḵap·pêr ‘ā·lāw ’a·ḥaṯ baš·šā·nāh mid·dam ḥaṭ·ṭaṯ hak·kip·pu·rîm hū qō·ḏeš- qā·ḏā·šîm Yah·weh — WLC · 10
The Census Offering

יְהוָ֖ה וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר אֶל־ מֹשֶׁ֥ה לֵּאמֹֽר׃ Yah·weh way·ḏab·bêr ’el- mō·šeh lê·mōr — WLC · 11

“When you take a census - vvv of the Israelites to number them, each man must pay the LORD a ransom for his life when he is counted. Then no plague will come upon them when they are numbered -.

כִּ֣י תִשָּׂ֞א אֶת־ רֹ֥אשׁ בְּנֵֽי־ יִשְׂרָאֵ֘ל לִפְקֻדֵיהֶם֒ אִ֣ישׁ וְנָ֨תְנ֜וּ לַיהוָ֖ה כֹּ֧פֶר נַפְשׁ֛וֹ בִּפְקֹ֣ד אֹתָ֑ם וְלֹא־ נֶ֖גֶף יִהְיֶ֥ה בָהֶ֛ם בִּפְקֹ֥ד אֹתָֽם׃ kî ṯiś·śā ’eṯ- rōš bə·nê- yiś·rå̄·ʾēl lip̄·qu·ḏê·hem ’îš wə·nā·ṯə·nū Yah·weh kō·p̄er nap̄·šōw bip̄·qōḏ ’ō·ṯām wə·lō- ne·ḡep̄ yih·yeh ḇā·hem bip̄·qōḏ ’ō·ṯām — WLC · 12

- Everyone who crosses over to those counted must pay a half shekel, according to the sanctuary shekel, [which weighs] twenty gerahs. This half shekel is an offering to the LORD.

Everyone twenty years of age… or older who crosses over must give this offering to the LORD.

כֹּ֗ל עֶשְׂרִ֥ים מִבֶּ֛ן שָׁנָ֖ה וָמָ֑עְלָה הָעֹבֵר֙ עַל־ הַפְּקֻדִ֔ים יִתֵּ֖ן תְּרוּמַ֥ת יְהוָֽה׃ kōl ‘eś·rîm mib·ben šā·nāh wā·mā·‘ə·lāh hā·‘ō·ḇêr ‘al- hap·pə·qu·ḏîm yit·tên tə·rū·maṯ Yah·weh — WLC · 14

In making the offering to the LORD to atone for your lives, the rich shall not give more than a half shekel, nor shall the poor give less.

לָתֵת֙ אֶת־ תְּרוּמַ֣ת יְהוָ֔ה לְכַפֵּ֖ר עַל־ נַפְשֹׁתֵיכֶֽם׃ הֶֽעָשִׁ֣יר לֹֽא־ יַרְבֶּ֗ה מִֽמַּחֲצִ֖ית הַשָּׁ֑קֶל לֹ֣א וְהַדַּל֙ יַמְעִ֔יט lā·ṯêṯ ’eṯ- tə·rū·maṯ Yah·weh lə·ḵap·pêr ‘al- nap̄·šō·ṯê·ḵem he·‘ā·šîr lō- yar·beh mim·ma·ḥă·ṣîṯ haš·šā·qel lō wə·had·dal yam·‘îṭ — WLC · 15

Take the atonement… money from the Israelites… and use it for the service of the Tent of Meeting. It will serve as a memorial for the Israelites… before the LORD to make atonement for your lives.”

The Bronze Basin

“You are to make a bronze basin with a bronze stand for washing. Set it between the Tent of Meeting… and the altar, and put water in it,

It must not be used to anoint… an ordinary man…, and you must not make anything like it with the same formula. It is holy, and it must be holy to you.
